The title makes this sound like market research or something - that isn't the case, I'm just trying to get a bit of perspective with the way things are right now.
I try to balance spending on groceries against eating decent cooked meals and feel like I'm doing pretty well keeping it rolling, but I want to find out what other people in Manchester are spending/eating to see how mine compares.
Since I'm asking for yours, heres mine: I'm spending £50 a week (not including sundries that crop up) to feed two people breakfast, lunch and tea. Because I absolutely hate it and don't want to spend already limited time over the weekend shopping, I grab the shopping online through Iceland.
That pays for:
That works out at £3.50ish a day per person, not accounting for sundries that crop up (Talking stuff like buying oil in bulk).
What are you spending a week for how many people? And if you don't mind sharing what sort of stuff are you getting for the money?

Prepared betty crocker white cake mix according to package directions, added more vanilla extract. Greased 18 muffin cups with solid fat. Into each cup, I added a teaspoon of melted butter to the bottom, then a tablespoon of dark brown sugar, and nestled a maraschino cherry in each center. Then I sprinkled toasted walnut pieces around the cherries. Poured in cake batter almost to the tops of the cups. Baked at 350⁰ for 20 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes then inverted the trays onto waxed paper to finish cooling.

I was craving something 90's themed and as there isn't anything close to Good Burger (except for maybe 5 Guys) I decided to make the slime cake from the birthday issue. It was quite cheap (Betty crocker yellow cakee, jello instant pudding, milk, cream, food coloring, 2 new 9" pans were all less than $25! Already had the eggs, veg oil, vanilla extract, and water at home). It was very vanilla and sweet, I'd recommend going a lil more liquid on the slime and less liquid on the whipped topping. I'd also cook for the minimum amount of time, 27 minutes was just a bit much.

3 pounds round steak -- top, round, bottom or sirloin tip, 1-inch thick
1/3 cup flour
3 tablespoons shortening
1 package onion soup mix -- (1 1/2 ounce)
1/2 cup water
10 1/2 ounces cream of mushroom soup -- condensed

Sprinkle one side of meat with half of flour; pound in. Turn meat and pound in remaining flour. Cut into 6 to 8 serving pieces.

Melt shortening in large skillet; brown meat in shortening over medium heat, about 15minutes. Sprinkle onion soup mix over meat. Mix water and soup; pour over meat. Cover tightly; simmer 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until tender.

Place meat on warm platter. Heat remaining gravy mixture to boiling, stirring constantly; pour over meat. Serves 6 to 8.
