My Triple Treat is finished!
The block, Triple Treat, can be found on Bonnie Hunter’s Quiltville blog as a free pattern. I just made 224 of those blocks and played with the colors. I was attempting to deplete my scrap pile a bit. I start this in the third week of January and just worked on it when I could. Piecing pairs nicely with Netflix and HuLu for me.

2023.06.04 18:26 justheretoglide Id like to explain a parallel between Tom Brady and Harry Kane, and why so many of you are foolish

I was New England patriots fan for almost 50 years. I watched them through thick and then, but not once did i get the feeling the owners and the coaches didnt give a crap about the fans and were only concerned with cash and EGO.
Then new England drafted a guy named Tom Brady, his first year was nothing , his career was the greatest of all time. Then a coach decided to get an ego problem, after being in 8 super bowls and winning 6, he decides he isnt going to re-sign the greatest QB ever. management declines to re-sign him. Fans star yelling, let him go, hes gonna cost too much, were fine without him.
Then it happened.
We took all that money, didnt resign him and spent it on the most free agents in NFL history.
Brady went to another team that hadnt won in 20+ years.
The patriots failed miserably, all those free agents sucked , they got paid and did nothing.
Tom brady won the league MVP and the Superbowl, AGAIAN, with his new team, creating a whole new legacy away from his previous team.
The fans , and the coach, now have the worst team in their division, and onw of the worst in the entire NFL. They likely will never again see the inside of a superbowl, unless they buy a ticket, and sit in the stands.
The patriot's franchise makes so much money, new stadium, great concerts etc. one of the top money making franchises in the world, yet not a threat to the top of the NFL anymore.

Now you can also see the similarities here with Fenway Sports group CEO john henry, who also owns liverpool. He nickled and dimed the red sox to death letting 5 all stars and league MVPs walk off the team, to save cash, but he wont spend the cash, and as a result the red sox are a last place team just 3 years after winning it all.

Whats my point?
you think Daniel levy is going to sell harry kane and spend the money on new fantastic players to help this club?
That money will go to building the new F1 track, maybe a cheese room, and a payoff to ENIC shareholders.
Or worse they will buy another bissouma tanganga richarlison trio for 125 million, who cant get out of their own way. Or maybe re-sign eric dier for 50 million for 5 years
and Spurs will be the next permanent member of the bottom of the premier league table. fighting off relegation year after year wishing they had kept kane for as long as possible.

let me give you a fact you CANNOT refute.

Harry Kane for one more season is worth more to winning, and to the players on the pitch, and success in the franchise, than 200m in Daniel levy's pockets is.
Daniel Levy getting paid means nothing to the players or to you as a fan. Stop acting like he will buy vini, and messi to show up and lead spurs. most of that money will go to pay off other debts, it WILL NOT g to the teams roster!

2023.06.04 18:26 Prestigious_Ad_3524 One Piece Spoiler

The figure of Dracule Mihawk, the world's greatest swordsman in the One Piece universe, is likely a descendant of Im, the ruler of the world.
Dracule Mihawk is one of the popular characters in the One Piece story, despite rarely appearing.
Similar to Shanks, Oda Sensei only showcases Mihawk's presence a few times.
For example, in the Baratie arc, before the timeskip, and post-timeskip.
However, in the Egghead arc, Mihawk's character starts to appear more frequently and has a larger role.
For instance, Mihawk's decision to join the Cross Guild group along with Crocodile and Buggy.
What's interesting is that speculation arises suggesting a connection between Mihawk and Im, where Mihawk is a descendant of Im.
Have the Similarity of Eyeballs
You might be wondering what then made Mihawk have a connection with Im and be suspected of being Im's descendant.
The theory explains that they have one thing in common, namely there is a ring shape inside their eyeballs.
So far, in the new One Piece story, Mihawk and Im have "spiral eyes" or spiral eyeballs with two circles containing pupils.
However, there is indeed a difference in terms of the colors of the two circles.
In the anime version, yellow circles appear in Mihawk's eyes to make it look like an eagle.
However, in the manga version, Mihawk's eye color is the same as Im's.
The theory itself believes that this was not an accident by Oda. The similarity may have a certain meaning.
What's also interesting is that the eyeball is similar to the eyeball of Zunesha, a giant elephant who was a former partner of Joy Boy who brought the island of Zou.
Zunesha must serve punishment for his past crimes.
Through these eyes, Zunesha is able to show a vision or vision into Momonosuke's head.
And this allows him to see what Jack and his men are up to.
When the peak war at Marineford occurred, Luffy was about to attack Mihawk.
However, he realized that it was a mistake where his arm might break off.
Many are sure that it was Luffy who used his Observation Haki unconsciously.
However, this theory also states that Mihawk did the same thing as Zunesha did to Momonosuke.
In this case, Mihawk shoved a vision into Luffy's head of what would happen if he tried to beat him up.
In that moment, Oda then showed Mihawk's unique eyes like when Zunesha gave information to Momonosuke.
Mihawk himself has the nickname "The Clairvoyant" which means he can predict, see, or predict future events.
Mihawk's senses also have more functions than normal humans.
Although it is still not confirmed, there is a possibility that Im, who has the same eyes as Mihawk, is also capable of projecting his thoughts or visions onto other people.
When the Gorosei ask Im for directions on who they should eliminate in the Great Cleansing moment, Im doesn't say a word.
Likely, Im put what Im thinking into Gorosei's head.
And how Oda has described Im all this time, by only focusing on the eyes, makes quite a lot of sense.
The Mihawk, Im, And Zunesha Connection
Having the same eyeball pattern is not the only factor that has led to the theory that Mihawk is Im's descendant. Im has control over the black arrow, while Mihawk has control over the black sword, Yoru.
The markings or symbols on Yoru's sword are similar to those on Im's throne. These two characters also sit on a throne.
While this may be an accident, it is still an interesting fact that provides clues about the connection between Im and Mihawk.
The theory states that there is a possibility that Mihawk is Im's former guard.
However, it could also be that Mihawk and Im are closely related, in this case Mihawk is a descendant of Im.
The Pangea Palace where Im lived was inspired by a palace in France which was built in the 16th century.
Interestingly, the clothes that Mihawk wears have similarities to the French king's guards in the 16th and 17th centuries.
In the SBS column, Oda shows the past of the Shichibukai who where Mihawk's childhood was different from now.
The eyes that Mihawk had probably did rise when he trained hard and showed his determination.
However, this does not rule out a deep connection between Im and Mihawk.
In fact, it's not impossible if the two of them are also connected to Zunesha the giant elephant.
Important Roles of Im and Mihawk
In the final part of One Piece's story, Mihawk and Im will likely have a very important role. And this is evident from the two characters that rarely appear now starting to get involved in big events.
As mentioned above, Mihawk is now a member of the Cross Guild which is again getting the attention of the navy.
Meanwhile, Im just started getting involved in the story in the last few chapters.
In fact, in chapter 1085, Oda finally showed Im's strength, even if it was just a glimpse.
With such extraordinary strength, it's not an exaggeration if Im really will be the last opponent that Luffy will face at the end of his story.
And this is also what might happen to Mihawk.
Even though in the timeskip Mihawk acts as a mentor to Zoro, he is still his main enemy.
The reason is, Zoro dreams of becoming the strongest swordsman in the world which is Mihawk's title.
That is, to be able to get the title Zoro must be able to shift Mihawk's position.
And chances are it will happen at the end of the story or towards the end of the story.
We see Mihawk first in Chpt. 49/Ep. 23 at the Baratie and we all know how that goes. Why do you think Oda even put him in at this point?
It's to show how far everyone has to go to achieve their goal. Everyone in the crew has a goal where they want to be the best, and you assume they can accomplish this by just following Luffy on his adventure.
Mihawk is physical proof of how far Zoro has to go. Then Mihawk tells Luffy that becoming the Pirate King is even more difficult than surpassing him.
Remember that When Luffy saw Zoro get defeated he rushed to kill Mihawk. Mihawk told him to be Pirate King he has to surpass him. Luffy will do that and only way we can know for sure thag he surpassed him is by him defeating Mihawk.
Mihawk will be ordered by Imu to finish luffy. Mihawk wanted to test his strength against WB(worlds strongest man), after Luffy defeats Blackbeard . Mihawk will want to test his strength as well and Luffy will prove himself there.
At the end of one piece there will be a clash of dreams. The Freedom fight. Another reason Imu and Luffy are destined to fight is because Imu is seemingly the most free man in the world. Luffy wants to be freest. But they go about it very differently. Their ideals will clash and Lufffy show why his is better. Imu will then show just how powerful he is and how Luffy can't just “gear” his way to the top but will use his willpower to overcome the might of Imu.
What do you think?

2023.06.04 18:04 Ill-Top-354 Searching For Turtleneck Hooded Poncho Pattern

I have tried using different names but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for and I don't know how to create a pattern myself. I want a hooded poncho with a piece that can be brought up to cover the bottom half of my face or worn as a turtleneck. If someone can do this for free thats amazing, but im willing to buy the pattern from an etsy shop or something.
I really like this pattern, but I want something that'll keep my face from freezing when it's windy outside crochet hooded poncho
I've already bought this pattern and I like it mostly. I really dont like square hoods though. That little point on the back drives me crazy and I don't know how to alter the pattern to fix that crochet turtleneck hoodie
So basically I would love to be able to combine these two patterns and round out the back of the hood more.

2023.06.04 17:58 HughCayrz01 Scammers

When my LW and I worked as tech support for "the company that shall not be named" (hint, logo looks like the death star), as tech support reps we could instantly ID scammers. They have some very obvious tells (poker allusion). I know we are super lonely, extremely vulnerable and weak in this journey but please do not give out personal information (banking, address, etc). I'm far enough in this journey that I chose to fuck with my scammer and sadistic enough to have some fun. I used stock photos of a friend (with his permission, of course). My LW would have been rolling with laughter if she were still here. Of course, if my scammer has a separate account and reads this, you know you've been had and I've wasted your time, I really am a widower but I'm the world's biggest asshole alive.
My advice to you, fellow widow and widower, is to ask for a photo of any friend on here, to look the person on reverse image search (you will have to pay) or if you have Facebook, search for Facecheck.ID, upload their image, and see if they have stock photos that have been reported (Facecheck.ID is free and antiscammer groups keep those photos).
Stay safe, friends. People suck ass.

2023.06.04 17:47 bingo0619 Mediterranean Shore Excursions, Celebrity Infinity

Just got back from 11-day Mediterranean cruise on Celebrity Infinity. Thought I would share what we did and what learned and liked since this gets asked about a lot. Hope it's helpful :)
FYI-We prefer doing food and wine activities over sightseeing and touristy stuff, I will try to add things I heard from other passengers re: things we did not do. I am going to put he tour provider for each excursion for those who might want to book direct. Also, we sacrifice cabin class for good food and more expensive excursions to stay within our budget.

Barcelona- We embarked here and spent a few days prior. We were not prepared for the jet lag as we flew overnight and had one quick layover. We arrived midday and napped, but our schedules were off. I would recommend trying to stay up as long as you can and sleep at night, your normal time. Barcelona is seven hours ahead of the Midwest, where we live. Nevertheless, we rallied our middle-aged asses and had and an amazing time.
I pre purchased skip the line tickets for La Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell on separate days. We went at our scheduled time and did not wait. We stayed on Las Ramblas and took cabs there and walked back. Many people did hop on/off and that worked well. We also went to La Boqueria Market and bought little things from many stands and sampled a lot. Very fun and cool experience. Did a DYI tapas tour I put together on my own from just research. We did not know this, but Elton John was performing when were there and we got to go, which was amazing! Coldplay was also performing there so the city was crowded.
We stayed on Las Ramblas, which was close to the port, but I would recommend staying more inside the city. Our hotel was okay, clean, but not many amentities. Suited our purposes, but was loud some nights. Cabs and food are relatively cheap and easy.

Day 2- Marseille- We did a walking food tour through Shore Excursions Group since the Celebrity one was sold out. This was operated by a company called Do Eat Better Experience. There were six of us, the other 4, not on cruise. Was a four-hour tour and worth it. Went to places I would not have known about. Guide was ok, but not very interactive. We had a great time with the other couples.
We got off early to walk around before the tour which met at 11:30. However, shops and cafe's do not open up till later. I would recommend sleeping later and going into port later, if you dont have an excursion booked. By the time our excursion was over, the towns were buzzing. We took a cab from the port and back, but you can take a bus or shuttle, I believe. Very nice day.
Day 3-Nice (Villefranche)- We did a tour through Celebrity, called Destination highlights, Nice and St. Paul de Vence Village. This was operated by Intercruises Shoreside and Port Services. We tendered super quickly. This was great day and included a lunch at a Michelin starred restaurant and a wine tasting at Cave Bianchi in Nice. We also had plenty of free time to explore each place. The formula 1 racing was in Monoco so there were Ferrari's, Lambo's and other racecars all over the place. We were allowed to look and take pics which was cool.
The lunch and wine tasting were phenomenal. The beach at Nice was gorgeous and if we would have known we would have brought our bathing suit and towels to go there, rather than walk around in the town. You can easily take a cab there and go on your own without doing an excursion. This was an all-day tour. So were back on the ship in time to relax and eat in MDR and chill for the night. It was a great, great day. I will say the people and guides were not as friendly and helpful as in other places, but it's not really an issue and doesn't ruin anything, we just didn't expect it. Our guide in Nice as a little on the unprofessional side, but, to each their own.

Day 4-Florence/Pisa (La Spezia), Italy- We booked a tour through Celebrity called, Destination Highlight: Coast of Cinque Terre and Portovenere, operated by Aloschi Brothers. Our guide was absolutely incredible, probably the best one we have had. her name was Duna in case you ever do this privately. We had individual small receivers and ear buds so we could hear her perfectly. We started in Portovenere where there is the famous Church of San Pietro. Just amazing and stunning views. The town is charming, and we walked and sampled. Did not buy much, just some food to take home.
We then took a boat ride up the coast and ended at the last of the Cinque Terre Villages, Monterosso. I am so glad did this over the three-village tour by bus. The boat ride up the coast was just amazing, and I assume this villages were similar. Gorgeous village. Rather than fight the crowd we hiked up a steep hill to the just incredible Porto Roco hotel and ate an incredible seafood and pasta lunch. The views were fabulous, and we had it to ourselves. Great meal. There is also a small, but beautiful beach at Monterosso you can hang out on. This was our favorite day.
We did the Chef's table on Celebrity that night which was otherworldly. A lot of eating and drinking this day. Incredible day!
Day 5- Rome (Civitavecchia) We were never going to Rome, no desire to travel there and deal with the crowds. I booked a private car from We Love Italy to go wine tasing in Tuscany. We had a husband-and-wife couple, Paulo and Nicola driving us, and it was great. They were absolutely lovely, and it was a pleasure and privilege to be with them, so kind and generous. They have an open invitation to stay with us if they ever visit. They also took us to a village and beach in Capalbio and for lunch in Manciano-Saturina. Again, amazing food and wine. The boat left late so we had lots of time.
I heard Rome was not as crowded as some thought and some of our shipmates actually got a glimpse of the Pope at the Vatican, which is so special.

Day 6-at Sea- up by 7 :( and got a spot and the hot tubs after breakfast. Stayed by the pool most of morning, it was great weather. Lots of activities to do but we chilled. We did the Mixology class offered by Celebrity which was a blast. We were bartenders at Martini bar for a few hours learning to make and serve cocktails. So, so fun and crew and guests were great.
Day 7- Valletta, Malta: We did an excursion from Celebrity called, Destination Highlight: Seaside towns of Vittoriosa and Marsaxlokk. Operated by Sam Mifsud and Sons. The tour was so so, the best part being a trip for wine and food tasting. Do you guys sense a pattern? It was rather boring, I should have researched better on this one. The fishing village, Marsaxlokk was a basic tourist trap with a makeshift market and nothing open. Vittoriosa was nicer and where the restaurant was. They did set up a nice area and what was served was good. I think doing more on your own or going to Gozo or Limoncello tasting would be good. I looked after and there are some excursions that looked way better.
Day 8-at Sea- Very chill day. We did the Blendique Wine Class and the World Wine Tasting which we have done before. Both super fun with great people and crew. We did not eat much or go to pool.
Day 9- Santorini, Greece-We did an excursion through Celebrity called, Small Group Discoveries: Island Wine Tasting Experience, operated by Rhapsody Travel. Tendering ashore was organized and quick. Went to three wineries on the island and had food at each. Also visited black sand beach and red sand beach. the latter of which was spectacular. Very nice tour with not a lot of people. This also included our cable car tickets down. We ate lunch at a restaurant on the water, which I forgot the name, but it was good. There were 8 other ships there, so it got crowded, we left after lunch and waited a very reasonable hour for the cable cars down to the tender spot. Up tp this point it was nice day.
Due to something very upsetting I witnessed in the town, not cruise related, I will never, never, ever step foot on Santorini again. Not necessary to discuss as it was personal to me, and I don't want to cloud anyone else's experience or opinion.
We watched the famous sunset from the top deck and it did not disappoint. We avoided the very long lines to get back to ship at night.
Day 10-Mykonos, Greece: We did a Celebrity excursion called, Small Group Discoveries: Mykonian Cooking Experience, operated by Rhapsody Travel. People, I cannot tell you how great this was. We went to a private home or spiti. There 14 of us. Teta was our host and the home own. So gracious and generous. We learned so much and all interacted and prepared an authentic lunch and sat down to eat. She prepared dessert as well. It was around 4 hours. She was incredibly gracious and generous. Probably the second-best day we had. One of the best excursions we have ever done. I would do it again for sure.
We walked around Mykonos after and had ANOTHER lunch at a restaurant called Promenade that was great. Very fresh seafood and authentic food. This a was very nice town, we loved it. There was a very small church with a blue dome, (others had different colors) that was open and it was beautiful inside. It was right by the water. I'm not Greek orthodox or even religious, but I got chills. I small prayer of thanks to my G-d for giving me this experience. I would 100% come back to Mykonos.
We bought beautiful piece of art from a local artist and owned studio called, Triciclo. It was really our only big purchase. We don't really but T-shirts, magnets, etc.
Day 11-Athens: I had transfer and we went right home. :(

This was a beautiful, beautiful cruise. I could not have asked for better experiences.
Celebrity tendering was fast and organized and easy. This who had excursions at applicable ports met and left by group with 30 minutes of docking. Those who had tickets to tender without a Celebrity excursion got called overhead by group and left from a different deck, also fast.
Quite a few of the guide said Celebrity tender the quickest and best. They mentioned other line by name that were not good, but I don't be negative or worry someone else, so I won't mention specifics.
My other suggestion for Celebrity would be to pick excursions that are "Small Group Discoveries", or "Destination Highlights". These seemed to be a better experience.
Happy and safe cruising everyone!!

2023.06.04 17:28 scribblermendez A Critique of 'Witch King' by Martha Wells

I got a copy of this audiobook for free from the publisher for the purpose of an honest review.
This book was fun! If I were to describe this book, it's a combination of Carol Berg's Rai-Kirah series and Steven Erikson's Malazan series. This book stars the eponymous Witch King Kai, in two timelines. In the past, he leads a rebellion against oppressive death wizards. In the present, he's trying to discover who betrayed him.
While this book didn't knock my socks off, I do think this book will end up in the top 10 books I read this year. I suggest you read this book, but enter reading this with your expectations relatively in check. This book isn't as spectacular a start to a series as Murderbot.
Spoilers Below.
I had fun reading this, and I read it quickly. This book throws you right into the plot, with minimal exposition explaining worldbuilding. I enjoyed it as a relatively short pallet cleanser novel (432 pages or 13 hours audiobook) to read between bigger books. It was well written, it's prose lush, it was sharply paced, and the worldbuilding was enthralling.
If I were to make a complaint about this book, this felt like book 2 in a series. Specifically, we didn't get to know the characters like you usually do with book 1 in a series. I finished the book and the characters felt somewhat like strangers.
My favorite part of the book was the lived-in feeling of the setting and how the two timelines interacted with one another. In the past, Kai seems like a much more innocent person than he does in the present. In the past, we see the heroes interacting with one another as friends, but in the present the heroes treat one another with suspicion because they were betrayed by one of their number and they don't know who the betrayer is.
To put this review/study in proper context, you must know my starting point.
I've read a few of this author's books and stories before. I read book 1 of Raksura, and didn't love it. I read the first Murderbot book, and enjoyed it. I read some of the author's MtG IP fiction, and thought she did a fine job.
I also read a handful of reviews for 'Witch King', and I'm grateful that I did. I enjoyed this novel all the more because this book exceeded the expectations those reviews left me with. This was a good book after all.
This book's concept was as a dual-timeline narrative, with the heroes in the past teaming up to defeat a great evil, while in the present they are at one another's throats. To summarize, the heroes defeated the Dark Lord(s) in the past timeline, and in the present timeline the heroes replaced the Dark Lord(s) and now squabble over the rubble of the Lord's kingdom. In the present, the book begins with Kai escaping a prison a past-friend trapped him in, and Kai has no idea which past-friend put him there. All he knows is that he's going to get revenge. This was a great concept.
This book was well executed upon, but it could have been better. I don't say this very often, but this book could have been a good 70~100 pages longer. I wanted to spend more time with these characters, I wanted to see more of the magic, I wanted to explore this world and it's civilizations more. I feel like the dual-timeline narrative resulted in us not having enough of either timeline. This is a good problem to have; it's usually good to leave the reader wanting more.
This is the weakest part of this story. As I said above, I finished this book and the protagonists were still basically strangers to me. This book was very plot-forward. We never saw the protagonists in contexts outside of moving the plot forward. This book was all business, no pleasure.
Everything the characters do was meant to advance the plot, and it gave both timelines a frenetic energy. But this fast pacing deprived the book of a slower, more nuanced characterization of the protagonists. I left this book understanding the events surrounding Kai, but not understanding who Kai is. Does he like tea? What's his favorite book? What's his favorite color? These questions are individually unimportant, but they hint at a greater truth; this book was stripped to the bone to provide a lean story without any 'fluff.' Consequently Kai, and everyone else, are somewhat enigmas. Some fluff is good!
To be clear, these aren't bad characters; I found Kai to be compelling. They just weren't developed here. I hope this book gets a sequel, I want to get more from this series.
And this is arguably this book's strongest aspect. This book is FAST PACED. As stated, this book has frenetic energy. It's FAST PACED, and eminently readable. I found this book as easy to consume as crackers or candy or chocolate.
Structurally, here's a breakdown.
On a chapter-by-chapter level, the author integrated the two timelines by going a chapter in the past, then the present, then the past again. This strategy worked, but I think it wasn't ideal. I felt a tiny bit of friction whenever the story alternated between chapters and timelines, between past and present. Whenever we change chapters/timelines, it took me a moment to remember what the plotline was in this different timeline. Having this source of friction happen at the beginning of every chapter wasn't a big deal, but it did hamper my suspension of disbelief somewhat.
I personally feel it would have been better if the story batched together several chapters in the past, then several chapters in the present, then back to the past. That would have relieved that narrative friction.
No spoilers about the plot. I thought the plot was very well done.
The stakes and tension worked REALLY WELL in the past. Kai was young and unskilled and innocent in the past, and he had a lot more to lose in the past. Due to his weakness and having so much to lose, the past felt much more serious and dangerous than the present. That's great stakes and tension. The stakes and tension in the present wasn't as well established as it was in the past.
I enjoyed the author's narrative voice. I like books which have a somewhat lush, descriptive style, focusing on the texture of life. For example, describing what a flower smells like, or what food tastes like. This book is such a story, describing everything from food to the art on the walls to people's clothing. Now that said, the lush style never delved into being purple.
The story's tone was serious, but never delved into being grimdark. The main bad guys uses death magic which kills a ton of people at a time, however that's the limit of it. There's no gore, or assault, or anything grim like that.
The setting was lush, with multiple magic systems interacting with multiple cultures. The grasslands culture uses demons like Kai, there are witches who use elemental magics, the Immortal Blessed culture create magical artifacts, while the antagonist hierarchs use death magic. This was really good worldbuiling by the author, because it gave the different cultures a different texture for worldbuilding each; by getting to know the magic systems, you get to know the culture behind each one.
For example, the Blessed culture view themselves as pious and righteous due to the divine nature of their magic, but everyone else views their culture as pretentious and annoying due to how snooty their are. Another example would be demon magic; other cultures view the grassland culture as evil because they consort with demons, however the grassland culture view demons as something like Unseelie fairies- useful and dangerous, and you can marry them and form alliances with them.
Additionally, the setting isn't just a re-creation of earth. Some of the animals are NOT earth animals, like the massive wallwalkers who are domesticated beasts of burden (which sometimes eat people) or the Frankenstein-like ghoul creatures the blood magic sorcerers can create. And the characters wear non-earth clothing, like the veils the magic-user wear or the golden robes of the magically powerful hierarchs.
I listened to the audiobook, and it was great. The protagonist is the 'Witch King' mention in the title. I felt that the narrator did a good job of adding a bit of regal dignity to the narration. If this book sounds good to you, try out the audiobook, the narrator is Eric Mok.
As an author, I want to improve my own writing/editing skills. To that end, I like to learn lessons from every story I read. Here's what I learned from this story:

Here's a link to all the lessons I've previously learned.
This is a good story. I enjoyed it as a palate cleanser between larger novels. It has strong worldbuilding, pacing and plot. I thought the characters were pleasant to read, but a bit blank slates. I hope there's a series following this book, this setting and characters are interesting.

On a personal note, I'm open to editing books. I don't like putting myself out here like this, but I've been told I should. Check my blog for details if interested.

2023.06.04 17:27 AgentOfASignal 26 [M4F] UK/Europe - Language and History fan. Our conversation will go down in history!

I'm from the mystical land of checks notes England. Okay, not too mystical. All the dragons are in Wales, and Excalibur's been loaned out. Oh, and I'm plus-sized, I'll say that now. But if I'd started with that, you wouldn't have heard about the dragons!
I work for a law firm, although sadly I'm not a lawyer. A shame, they make way more than I do! Currently in the process of buying a house, so I can have my own puts shades on bachelor pad. takes shades off
I'm a big history fan, the older the better. Too modern is boring, I like the really old stuff. Rome, Egypt, or even older. I'd love to get in a time machine and see these ancient cultures for myself. Although if I had a time machine, first trip would be to my home town in the past to see it. Or to go buy a lottery ticket, one or the other.
Wanna know a fun fact about me? I'm a published writer. That's right, when I was 8, my letter was published in the hallowed pages of The Simpsons Comics. Please, no autographs.
Oh, and I speak German, Italian and (sort of) French, so feel free to come and chat with me in those languages.
In terms of pop culture, believe it or not I've never read/watched Harry Potter, or a Marvel movie. They're on the long list of things I'll get around to eventually. I'm big into Assassin's Creed, Doctor Who, Star Wars. Mostly game on PlayStation and PC, and I love Red Dead and GTA too. And Hitman.

Street Fighter 6 is on 3rd Place! And 1st Place if you only count "traditional fighting games". This is great!
Honestly I'm really impressed by Arc System Works, they got GG Strive and DBFZ on the Top 10. And ofc there is MK11, but I have to mention the current player number of MK11 is a bit high because the recent sale.(which is a steal btw!)
Also I included a 2nd picture with the traditional fighters. We have to respect Tekken, for maintaining the most consistant player numbers! 6k 24h Peak, compared to 18k All time peak, thats more than 30%!

2023.06.04 17:16 BlindRevelator Holy Observances (Open to All)

*The Day After the Feast
Though he had his own apartments and offices at the Old Sept, which was nothing more than a sunken cog which had then been built around and gave the old building the look of an ark. The buildings around it gave it a field of a small fort, with no walls. Just a mission, even the Stoney Sept was bigger still and could house more than the Sept in the capitol could. For this purpose the High Septon had moved, for now, to a tabernacle amongst the pavilions which surrounded the Dragon pit, and of the grounds designated for the houses- he had the choice position up on a hil where the breeze was plentiful, and thus the vapors not terrible. It would even smell sweet and clean up here.
The rainbow’s pavilions of the Faith caught the light and splayed colours on the soft green grass which served as caper, and the high canvas walls all moved and tugged, fluttering with the tickles of the wind. It kept from the heady scents of incense, however everything else worked as it should. Handbells rang, as did the bells at the old tower in town to signify service. The Old Sept would be led by its regular Septon, where as service was handled by the High Septon himself in the camps. It was not publicized, but there was a small crowd all the same.
The sacraments were observed, children dedicated and marked in the Faith, and the sermon, was kept brief- The Gardener did not believe in drowning on for hours, he spoke maybe for an hour tops, and expounded on peace and the need for mending the old wounds, to bind up the realm. Prayers were said and psalms sang.
At the end Alms were handed and people left to go and break their fast. Meals to start the day, leaving mid morning quite open for those to go about their business. As such the High Septon made it certain that others would know he was available for confessions and counsel, word spread amongst the nobles- that audience could be had.
Once he had changed from the whites of service, and the light weight robes needed for the summer, that the jewels were taken and locked away, he found himself in his pavilion, a certifiable apartment made of canvas and silks, something of his predecessor, but as a former knight it felt opulent, something a King would use when traveling. Am I not a King? But my kingdom holds no walls or cities to defend. But hearts and souls
Septa Alysanne, stood nearby in dressed chastely as she could. The mother and smith made her without the tight restrictions of clothing in kind- or perhaps with them in mind, as her curves strained the fabric in places. It was noticeable to the old tamed dragon as it was to other men. Yet he would keep no other confidant save a few other Septons, such as brother Bayard who held his place in the Starry Sept while he was away.
He changed freely in front of her, and she did not avert her eyes, while he went as nude as he was born, and then was in comfortable trousers, left loose at the knee, and a lightweight tunic, before his woolen brown robe was pulled on and over- despite the fabric, it breathed well, and he would sweat some, but not a lot. He normally preferred boots, but given he was not tromping around on stone, he forewent hose, and merely wrapped his feet in the manner of a begging brother, leaving his toes free- and walked on the grass as if it was a fine myrish or lyseni carpet. Thick and cool- better than any rug.
He did keep sandals close by though in case he needed to walk somewhere, and did not look up while he cinched his hem pen belt, sliding his prayer chain of thick black and red beads with an old scuffed crystal into his side. All done while he hummed quietly to himself, pausing he looked back to Alysanne who held his chain, and seven pointed star of steel waiting for him.
“Alysanne, as we have so many of the realm here, I would ask that you take good care to feed our birds, specifically doves, crows and the like- crows are decimating aren’t they?”
‘They are Father.’
“I heard a story once of a girl in the Stormlands who would go and feed the crows out in her small holdfast’s yard everyday, and to her duty on her nameday, they left trinkets- small treasures in the yard. I at first did not believe this, however I traveled there and witnessed for my own eyes. She would feed them and in the morning, like miracles from Heaven, little prizes.”
The Septa nodded as he smoothed out his robe, and he looked back to her.
“Ravens are for quick important words, crows are for trinkets and treasures. Let’s see what treasures our crows bring.”
The Gardener took a breath and walked over to where a basin of water was, and splashed some of the cool into his face and hair, smoothing it back, before he was straightening up. Alysanne quickly moved to pour a tall mug of cool cider from the Reach, a Rowan - versus the fine apple ones of Fossoway.
She brought the mug to The High Septon as he turned, taking it, with a smile and brush of fingers, before the two walked to the breezy tent prepared to receive others.
“And doves?” She asked and he raised a brow, before lowering it.
“Doves are welcome everywhere and are likely already with our friends now. Crows need more coaxing. However should a dove bring a laurel, we will reward thusly.”
She nodded and pulled back the flap, and he stepped in.
Inside the tent Two chairs would be set facing one another. They were plain, but comfortable, a small table was kept by one, where the High Septon kept his mug. And then down on the grass a bow of water and clean towel were kept.
And here he would wait.
