2023.06.04 10:12 cocofan4life Employer is changing our closing procedure, I don't know what to think about it, opinions?
I work as a barista and waiter at a cafe that's also have heavy food. We work in shifts and around 11am - 10:30pm. This is the my first job and have it for my like 6 months already.
Our closing procedure is simple, the kitchen closes at 9:20 pm ( last order ) and the bar at 9:30 pm. We start closing the shop at 10 pm and im some case a bit late if there still customers inside.
Now here comes the problen.
The opening hours on the cafe's Google page is 12pm to 10:30, the time where the shop finished closing.
Now there was a 2 star google review yesterday that says " in the google page it says they close 10:30 but 9:15 already not accepting customers đ " emoji included.
So this morning the restaurant owner messaged us on the group.
This is the message, apparently the cafe's other branch told the owner how they handle closing and he asks us to close the same.
" 1. 9:30 isn't last order, its last customer to enter.
(The thing is, we have like 5 tables outside the shop unlike the other branch.)
- Theres no order time limit, if you want it to be fast, take their order
( We uses QR , most people hate this shit but I don't, but I already take it manually if we're short in time. )
- If the hostess/waiter didn't notice and after 9:40 there is still customers sitting you can't ever ask them to leave and must take their order.
( This is probably my biggest problem with this new rule... )
- Kitchen cant ever close without green light from the frontliners
Ok, so that's all the new rules. What do you guys think?
Me and my supervisor are pissed off from this new rules, but we're planning to just let customers sit and not asking them to leave so we can earn overtime.

2023.06.04 09:58 Defiant_Jump7979 Sheppard Air for writtens
Itâs been said a million times here, but let me assure you. After looking for many different alternatives, nothing compares to Sheppard Air AFTER your private pilot. I didnât think IRA Written would be as easy for me as many people in the thread claim, but I passed with a 98%. Iâve never considered myself to be good with multiple choice exams, but I entered my testing center with 3 other people, I was the first one to finish in less than 30 minutes, it felt like I had done something wrong, but once the nice lady at the testing center handed me my paper with a 98%, I knew it was real.
Now that I have used Sheppard air, I feel comfortable talking about how to use it. So obviously, follow the instructions they have listed, word for word (VERY IMPORTANT). The only change I made is when it was time for me to review my missed questions, I wrote down my missed questions on a notepad and memorized them until I couldnât get it wrong. Over and over, just kept memorizing them. If youâre a bad studietest taker like me, use Shep to pass your exam. Have a way of remembering the number questions as well. Example: when ____ VOR is mentioned, use ____ as your answer.
Im in the checkride phase of my Instrument rating now, throughout my rating, i think Iâve used the IFR sectional maybe once or twice. This is to say that while the written is important in a certain way, it isnât necessarily the root of your IFR training. There are plenty of good YouTube videos to help you with your oral or general knowledge about how to fly IFR. In addition, Pilots Cafe is a great tool to utilize for your oral portion. Happy flying, wish your clear skies and tailwinds (en route).
Edit: first post ever, please under aviation is serious business. I donât know much, but I felt like I should share what I personally learned to the rest of you all.

2023.06.04 09:46 dokushin FFX2 HDR -- A brief, mild review
Brief background: I'm an over-the-hill class gamer who grew up with FF's 1, "2", and "3" (those are 4 and 6 now, and yes, I know you already knew). FFX and X2 represented a glaring hole in my experience that I sought to correct over the past couple of weeks. And while I don't have much to say on FFX -- it's a great game, maybe not for me -- I have quite a bit to say about FFX2. I need the catharsis, so I'm just going to jump right in, by topic.
The Stuff Everyone Hates Just to get this out of the way, the completion business is completely bonkers. Some of the stuff guarding 100% (Via Infinito is a great example) feels like post-game screw around stuff to extend playtime, not critical do-this-or-get-a-bad-ending stuff. My theory is that that's how it was intended to work, but at some point they put more and more emphasis on that elusive completion, and it's... ugh. I mean, they make you perform a major faction choice early in the game, and one of them will then and there torpedo your "perfect run". Another bit of completion and an either-or choice of unique accessory relies on who you talk to first with no indication of it mattering. It's confusing and obtuse.
Oh, and the outfits are ridiculous. I'm not gonna spend a lot of time there. Just talking about it makes me feel a bit skeevy.
Mechanics I love job-change systems, strategic building, and the new ATB system here is a lot of fun, with shit happening everywhere. So it's easy to come in excited. Unfortunately, it all is kind of ... well, let's break it down.
- The ATB system, more and more towards the end of the game, exhibits a huge amount of queueing problems, as more and more you have full charge bars just sitting around waiting for some other shit to get done. More than once I'd finish casting something while a fat tonberry was waving his knife around, only to sit there staring at him for several seconds, and then have him attack again. Against multitarget fights (like Major Numerous) it feels particularly punishing as it seems easy for your actions to clump up after quite a few of the enemy's. Some clarity on the turn ordering would have helped a lot (perhaps an FFX-style display). As it is, it's very hard to make multipart strategies work. Which you need to do, because...
- The job system is, like, not really a job system. It's a weird beast, because most of the jobs feel like they're pretty locked in to a role, but then there isn't any credible way to benefit from more than one job at a time. (Yes, hang on, I'm getting to that.) So clearly the sphere change system is meant to pick up that slack, and the idea of strategically laying out jobs on a board to move between was really cool, up until the first time I needed to traverse the whole board (Paine's special sphere, maybe?) and it became obvious that there wasn't any cost to doing so; if you spam the sphere changes you can get everyone through all of their boards before the enemy does anything in 90% of cases. There's no other cost to changing spheres, so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be doing here, but it feels like any board with some powerful effect behind "hit all the gates" is just saying "to continue character progression you're going to have to do thirty seconds of mindless button mashing before every fight." Okay, so I leave that behind, but then, if you don't swap jobs, it's back to overrestricted roles again.
- As you progress, items try to address this, as you get accessories (and boards!) that let you access skill sets from another job. By and large these are pretty terrible, for the next few reasons (which also hurt the game as a whole).
- The jobs are clogged up with way too much useless gimmick garbage. Almost every job has one or many HP-percent attacks (think Demi), and they have the same problem they've always had, which is that against enemies it would work against you're almost always better off just, like, hitting them. The fat guys you might actually want to try this on are all immune to it, guaranteed. Every single one of these skills is a waste of design and a waste of space, and I resent having to scroll past them looking for something that might work. Except, I can't, because...
- Almost all of the stuff that isn't HP-percent is instead normal-attack-plus-status-effect. Anyone who's spent any time playing RPGs knows this issue, and it's the same one as above; against stuff that it would actually work on, you should just get to killing it; it doesn't matter if you put some weak-ass poison on it (and, despite the FFX poison being ridiculously good, the FFX2 poison is so trivial that I stopped bothering to get it off my team halfway through the game). Jobs are absolutely riddled with this shit. For half the classes, literally everything they learn that you can click on is "normal attack plus something that every strong enemy is immune to". And that's what makes the other-job accessories so bad, because getting access to a bunch of ways to pay MP to do a normal attack with a fancy "GUARD" shield over it isn't useful.
- Just to cap off these lists of useless moves, the "best" skills in jobs will frequently be some kind of instant death (there are dozens of these). Same problem as above except moreso, because even more stuff will be immune. Like, seriously, some jobs have multiple instant death attacks, and none of them ever work.
- But what about magic? I've been a black magic fan for decades. Well, the designers hate me specifically, because magic in this game sucks shit. I mean, it's absolutely awful. The black mage class learns three levels of the elemental spells and nothing else (power spells like Flare and Ultima are unlocked on sphere change boards and aren't specific to any job), and they do horrible damage. Without context maybe this isn't useful, but a max level black mage (99) with max magic (255) and the pay-more-for-stronger-spells ability (Magic Booster) can come up to Shiva, weak to fire, and hit her with the strongest fire spell right in the face, and it will do less than 2000 damage. At those stat levels normal attacks are expected to hit the 9999 cap regularly, to say nothing of -- well, I'm getting to that.
- Okay, but what about other jobs? BLM sucks, what else is there? Okay, there's White Mage -- no Holy, just heals. And... well, that's it. All the other classes are variants on fighters with only a couple gimmick exceptions (the Songstress doesn't use stats, and the Alchemist only uses items). Someone is about to bring up the Gun Mage -- the Blue Mage of FFX2, but check it out -- quite a few of the blue magics are physical, all of them are kind of bleh, and the other menu the Gun Mage gets is the ability to do a physical, strength-based attack that will do quadruple damage if you can pick the enemy's type from a list. Seriously, for physical dealers we have Fighter, Gunner, Samurai, Dark Knight, Berserker, Trainer, and Thief, explicitly strength jobs (oh, did Dark Knight fool you because it's sphere grid gives bonuses to Magic for some reason? The darkness command doesn't use strength, the spells they cast all inflict status and don't care about Magic, and also don't work, and the capstone Black Sky does magic damage but is based on your strength). Even the oddballs have no use for magic, even as a simple "attack" command (strength, natch) never goes out of style.
- Okay, but magic lets you hit elemental weaknesses? No. This is another big filler for classes -- not as much as status and fraction, but just about as useless, many physical jobs will have attack commands for each element. Why spend MP to cast a spell to hit a weakness for 2000 when you can hit a weakness with a physical attack for four times that? But by the latter parts of the game, elemental weaknesses are becoming very rare, and a bit hard to guess at, meaning playing the elements is really asking for it.
- Doesn't this mean the magic stat is useless and magic-users suck shit? Yeah, that's what I said above.
- But even most of the physical stuff gets gimmicked out of the room; there are a handful of physical abilities that ignore defense. FFX2 uses a smooth percentage based defense-based system, and higher-level mobs have more defense, so ignoring defense is a HUGE deal, especially against bosses and superbosses (for instance, an attack might do 1200 on a hard target, but ignoring defense would do more like 15,000 with the same power.) So you can try to overpower enemies with strong defense-affected attacks, and lose the game, or you can use... well, let's give it its own bullet point.
- Allow me to introduce the bread and butter of the game. The strongest, defense-ignoring, hit-everything attack. It's a specialty of the Samurai, so you know it's going to be good. What happens is, you swing your sword, and use it to... launch a little firecracker at enemies, which lands at their feet and merrily pops, dealing basically the most damage you can deal, easily growable into tens of thousands. Yeah, it's called Fireworks, and it being the strongest move in the game is ridiculous. And there's not even any contest; you can set someone up with max magic (inadvisable, see above) and magic boost and Ultima and get everything right and blow all your MP and -- you'll hit almost not quite as hard as a samurai just randomly using Fireworks. Sometimes enemies have much lower magic defense, but remember, Fireworks ignores defense. It's exactly as good against everything, it hits everything on the field. (One might note there are not any player-accesible spells that ignore magic defense.)
- Seriously. Fireworks. And yes, I know that gunpowder, and rockets, and all that jazz, and if the thing had a little more oomph to it I might like it, or if it made any sense at all, but to completely outclass actually using the sword you're holding in every possible way? FFS.
- There is one decent alternative for damage-ignoring, and it's on the Mascot sphere -- a "super" job you unlock by doing everything perfectly. They're different for each person, but they come with a pile of status and fraction attacks (...) and Yuna and Paine's can use a powerful single-target defense-ignoring attack. Arguably Fireworks is still better, but you can mix it up with these. Not that they look any cooler; the Mascot job puts each girl in a huge fluffy costume (a Moogle, a Cait Sith, and a Tonberry) with big goofy details, and the moves for all of them are all cartoony jokes. I hate when games do this -- make the strongest stuff these kinds of joke items -- but whatever.
- Ok, so, whatever, that all sucks. What about the special dressspheres? These turn one of the three into a super-powered version that chases off the other party members and replaces them with parts of their new huge form. In principle this is badass, and the idea of three pieces designed to work together is cool, and it's a powerful moment to go completely... well, whatever they're going. If the things were ever useful it'd be great. Unfortunately, they have stats that are fixed to your level, and don't gain the effect of any equipment you have, and don't get the benefit of the sphere grid you used (apart from a small HP bonus for larger ones), and their stats are not great. They accelerate at high levels, but by then you'll have accessories that increase your power dramatically, and losing those for the special spheres means they're going to struggle to do any damage at all. Oh, and they're clogged to the gills with status attacks, and instant death, and all that, of course. They woulnd't really be usable even if you didn't have to play fox-and-hound on your controller for thirty seconds to unlock changing into them.
- I'm getting too worked up, let me segue. Equipment consists entirely of two accessories per person, and any bonus effects on your sphere grid. There aren't any weapons and armor; the aesthetics (and, nominally, the stats) are built into the jobs themselves, so you're always using the same weapon. I found this really boring, especially since most of the accessories for most of the game are simple stat bonuses or immunity to one specific status effect. Later you start getting more interesting options, but then those get blown away again by the late-game stuff; massive stat bonus items and needing to use an accessory to break the damage cap. (And another to break the HP cap, if that's your thing.) You can't really get this stuff intrinsically, creating a "tax" on a resource you only have two of. Notably, the special spheres I mentioned above can learn to break the damage cap automatically, which is hilarious because typically it doesn't matter, they can't do 9999 anyway. And if that wasn't enough, you have to unlock that ability with FFX-flavored finding key items in random places everywhere.
- Areas? The outdoor environments are beautiful and varied, and while the new "jumping" (read: "hold B to keep going") is a bit cheesy and obstructionist at times the areas are interesting to navigate and explore. Of course, then you go in a dungeon and everything is murky square corridors forever. It's kind of a jarring change.
- Oh, that reminds me. You know how sometimes in RPGs they'll make dungeons that have just ridiculously long, featureless corridors, obviously there just to make you get in more fights? Via Infinito is 100 floors of that, and it's an absolute grind, and it's needed for completion. I mean, this thing is worse than the Chrysler Building, or the Karma Palace. It's just... ugh.
Okay, I'm tired of talking about mechanics. Basically, they suck, the game hates the Magic stat and anyone who wants to cast a spell, there's one ability out of all the abilities on every job that matters and it throws a little party for the enemy before breaking the game over your knee. Hope you like fireworks.
Story The story is told from a unique perspective and with kind of a unique flavor. Some of that flavor I absolutely hate -- the music for most of the game just kind of grates on me, some of the characters are just too much, and things stay always a little silly -- but that's not bad, it's more a matter of preference. I think that writing this story was a fun experiment. By the time it had concluded I feel like it lost track of what it was doing and left some stuff just kind of hanging, but all in all I enjoyed it. It's frustrating because so many elements and details are locked behind impossible-to-predict random actions, triggers, and areas, so to see it all you need a walkthrough and a spreadsheet, which really kills the flow of the story itself.
** Creature Creator **
This -- where you capture fiends and make them fight in arena battles -- is completely disconnected from the rest of the game, but is a lot of fun. I enjoyed trying different strategies with different creatures, and since you can customize their abilities by feeding them items it helped to recapture some of that tactical complexity that I feel is missing with the specialized jobs and no equipment. Really, I wish it wasn't there, because I would have been done with this game 100 hours earlier, but it was fun to mess around with.
The stories you unlock from releasing monsters are all basically comedy skits, but some are entertaining and it's fun to get a glimpse into the lives of random people.
** Other **
I really enjoyed most of the battle quips and the quotes that go with the various jobs, although sometimes they were a bit forced. This, though:
- "Duck soup!"
- "Duck what?"
is the funniest thing I've heard all year and I'm not kidding.
** Overall **
You know already just from the word count above. I found the story inoffensive and some of the side activities fun, but the mechanical aspects of this RPG feel very... I don't know, amateurish, like they were put together by someone who has never actually played an RPG and confronted the harsh reality of strong enemies being immune to things. Between that, and the domination of Fireworks, and the deep hostility to magic, there was never really anything I was excited about learning or developing. I'd get a new job and I'd know already what I'd find -- more pointless attacks and a couple of good auto-abilities. There was precious little to look forward to getting, meaning the strategic element I crave in my number-based games was almost entirely missing. It promises Tactics and delivers Mystic Quest. (No shade, FFMQ had amazing music and I really kind of like it, even if it's a wafer-thin game.)
I'd love to discuss any of this in the comments with anyone with different experiences. Having put the game to rest, in retrospect it felt... draining, more than anything. A billion things to keep track of over tiny little fractions of percent of progress, dozens and dozens and dozens of "attack-plus-this" that don't matter, and probably the worst black magic nerf of any FF game. Pretty disappointing overall.

2023.06.04 09:35 lautaromassimino Elite season 4 (second) rewrite [following suggestions from my original post, a few days ago]
Okay, so... a few days ago I posted about a rewrite of all Elite seasons, dividing it into two parts (part 1: S1, S2 & S3, and part 2: S4, S5 & S6). It was a rewrite that I did about a year ago, and only a few days ago it occurred to me to upload it here without further ado, but several comments on the post from the last three seasons told me that they felt a little disconnected from the rest, that last seasons didn't had a general harmony between the characters and the story itself, and the truth is, you were right. So, since I had nothing better to do at home, I began to think of some way to accommodate that, and well, this is what I came to ^-^ This is only the S4 rewrite, and I want to clarify this retains most of the things I mentioned in my original post, but in a better order, and with several additions I took from the comments on that post, which really made this version a 100/10. I leave you the link of the original post, where you can read the first complete idea: https://www.reddit.com/EliteNetflix/comments/13yr1r6/fixing_netflix_elite_season_46_english/ I'll be making the new parts 5 and 6 in a few of these days, and uploading them to my profile as well. When I have them, I will leave those links in the comments of this post. ****************************************************************************************************************************
S4: the main focus of this season would be on excesses, specifically, on the consequences of drug abuse. - The story of this season should have followed the consequences of Polo's death for our characters, the weight of the pact of silence regarding Lu, and the non-hypersexualized harmony that the first three seasons had between the characters.
- In addition, from this season several things about the school itself raised in previous seasons seem to have been forgotten just like that:
- Las Encinas is a bilingual school, but we never see another teacher speaking English (French in the English dubbing) again.
- The school competition with the Ivy League prize that Nadia and Lu compete for during the first three seasons is not mentioned again, when it is supposed to be something that is done every single year.
- In addition, from this season almost all the scenes are located almost exclusively inside the school, and we see very little about outdoor scenes, or the private lives of the characters. This is also a serious mistake, since that was what best allowed us to know each other's backgrounds, and create empathy with them.
Initial setting for this season: (in my post about the first three seasons) I made clear my idea for Christian's character at the end of season 3 (I decided to keep the character in the show, for plot reasons of season 2): - Christian has pleaded guilty to the crime against Polo, partly to protect Lu (with whom in this version he would have had a romantic backstory) but also because he knew he would not bear to have another murder charge on his conscience (in this case, Polo's) after everything that happened with Marina. It was like his way of making himself pay for keeping silent, and at the same time understanding the reasons that Carla had had to protect Polo all that time: for the people you loved, you are willing to do anything; Carla had done that for Polo, and now he was doing it for Lu.
- At the end of the previous season, at graduation, we would very briefly met a new character who happened to be Carla's younger brother. That character (Felipe) will be one of the new main ones of this season and will be a completely modified version of Phillipe's character (who as such does not appear in this version).
- Nadia, Carla, Lucrecia, Cayetana, Ander, and Malick would have successfully graduated the previous season, and would no longer appear in this one. In this version, Omar would not appear anymore either, since he would have gone to the US with Malick, accompanying Nadia and Lucrecia.
- Samuel, GuzmĂĄn, Rebeka and Valerio would be the characters repeating the course and staying for one more season. Cayetana would also stay, but as in the original version, she would do so as the new school janitor.
- GuzmĂĄn and MencĂa become close friends this season, based on how much GuzmĂĄn would see Marina in MencĂa [For those who didn't know, MencĂa was written as a reformulation of Marina's character, adapted to the needs of the new environment with this "new gen"].
Ari, Patrick and MencĂa: - We would find out that they are adopted children of Benjamin.
- The three of them + Felipe would enter the third year of school, that is, a course below the one that Samuel & company are repeating (making Felipe, Patrick and Ari two years younger than them, and MencĂa three, since they originally tell us that she is one year ahead).
BenjamĂn Blanco: The father of the new trio, and the new principal in Las Encinas, after Azucena's dismissal.
He is actually Polo's uncle (his late wife was Begoña Benavent's sister).
- BenjamĂn would have come to Madrid to help his sister-in-law regarding her son's trial, and to try to obtain information about this, by infiltrating the school, since apparently, despite Christian's guilty plea, there does not seem to have been direct evidence implicating him as the killer, beyond the romantic bond he shared with Polo, so police say it's quite possible he'll be released for lack of evidence.
- They tell us that Benjamin asked his three children for "help" to try to find out what really happened with Polo. However, Ari is the only one who accepted his request for help. Patrick and MencĂa try to act as if that doesn't happen. Neither of the three mentions that Polo was their cousin.
Felipe RosĂłn Caleruega. - Apparently, he had spent all those years attending a sister private school of Las Encinas located in Argentina, called Los Olmos, and when we got to know him properly this season we would discover that it was not his idea to return to live in Madrid, but rather a decision made by his parents. We would later learn that he had actually been expelled from his last school, and that there is something about his past in Argentina that he is trying to keep secret [Remember that he is a new version of what Phillipe was, so he must have something shady behind him].
- Felipe's "dark past" is based on having anger management problems: a video is revealed in which he is seen together with a group of students attacking another boy. There is a heavy complaint against him, and the case is still on trial, and only thanks to the influence of his parents was he able to avoid being arrested.
- Related to the second main plot of this season, which in the future would become the main plot for later seasons:
â â â â His father, Theodoro RosĂłn plans to rebuild a public school again on top of the ruins of San Esteban's (Samu, Nadia & Christian's old school), this time by "legal means" to avoid the same fate as Ventura (GuzmĂĄn's father, who was arrested in S1), but still solely for the economic purposes that would result from such construction, and a new scholarship program that this new school would have with Las Encinas.*
â â â â During the next season, the construction of this new institution would have finished, and we would have new scholarship recipients in Las Encinas, coming from this new school. This would be part of the "reboot" that the next generation would mean for Elite.
They make us believe that Rebeka (not Ari) is the main victim of this season... but she is not. - From the first episode, we begin to have flashforwards at the beginning and at the end of each episode, where we see, to begin with Rebe in a coma in the hospital, intubated, letting us know that apparently and for some reason (which we still don't know at that moment, but you know, we here are from the future so we can already say that this reason was Armando) his life hangs by a thread. One of the flashforewards of the following episodes before the end shows us a scene of the police closing the closure of a funeral bag with a corpse inside, followed by another scene of Cayetana crying, hugging Felipe... apparently, Rebeka is dead...
- In the end, we find out that Rebeka would end up in the hospital because of Armando, after finding out what MencĂa was going through all season, and having confronted him to defend her, but ending up severely beaten in the process.
- For the final episode, we finished understanding that the one in a funeral bag was actually Valerio...
- Valerio dies of an overdose, "completing circle" in his drug addiction plot, but not forcing murder into the season.
Armando's fate: - HE IS NOT KILLED BY GUZMĂN. Seriously, how did the writers come up with the idea that the character we met SEEKING JUSTICE FOR THE CRIME AGAINST HIS SISTER would become the new criminal face, not facing the consequences and ending his story with him running away to avoid charges?
- Armando is imprisoned: During the last episode we see MencĂa crying in the hospital, blaming herself for the possibility of losing Rebe because of her. She finally comes clean; Not with her father, not with Ari, not with Patrick... but with GuzmĂĄn. GuzmĂĄn is the only person she trusts enough to admit the truth about Armando. Just at that moment, Rebeka wakes up. The rest is simply a competent action on the part of justice.
- So that the public is left with a pleasant taste in the mouth... Armando is murdered in prison? Maybe.
Characters' subplots this season: - The fact that MencĂa is one year ahead of her siblings tells us that she has a fairly high intellectual level, which apparently at first would mark her as the new best in her class, and they tell us that if so, she could be the new candidate to win the prize for which we saw Nadia and Lu competing in the first season. However, as her plot with Armando develops, her grades begin to drop, which creates some concern in her teachers, but leaves Felipe as the second candidate for the award, being the second highest grade in the class. This does not create a rivalry between them two: MencĂa is affected enough by her own problems to care, and also, we don't want to textually rewrite Nadia and Lu's plot with other characters, but to maintain the coherence of the traditions that we were previously told that the school had.
- Being that Carla and Marina had been best friends as girls, we discovered that Felipe actually knew Marina, although he doesn't remember her very well. He did not know GuzmĂĄn at all, however we see him approaching him anyway to offer his belated condolences on his sister's death. Perhaps in this same scene we discover that Felipe also knew Polo, and in fact had once been "close" to him: he was his sister's first boyfriend (with whom, in the first season, we were told that she had dating since age twelve). This means that Felipe was less than ten years old when he met Polo. Talking to GuzmĂĄn, Feli remembers how he used to enter the living room where Polo and Carla were, making her angry, although Polo always defended him and offered to play video games with him at the end of the afternoon. Felipe looks grieved over his death, even though he clearly doesn't know anything about what really happened to him.
- After everything that happened with Polo the previous season, Cayetana is at a point in her life where she is not capable of being in another relationship. Her plot remains only in the way that she wants to change her future and focus on her design career, perhaps having aftermath of everything that happened with Polo, making her start having anxiety attacks (but treating the subject delicately, with her beginning to see a specialist by Rebe's obligation). We would see how Caye tries to seek support from Valerio, because of "Polo's issue" and the connection that Valerio also had with him, but she is frustrated when she realizes that Valerio seems to have coped with all this issue through the use of drugs. Another possible plot for her would be her attempt to help him (parallels to her original attempt to help Philippe). Cayetana would be an easy second target for Ari, in her attempt to find information about Polo for her father. However, she would not achieve much due to the gap between them throughout the season.
- Felipe begins to become friends with Valerio (note: in my rewrite of season 3, I mention that Yeray and Carla's drug plot I gave up to Valerio, causing him and Carla to start having some kind of sex-romantic tension plot as client/dealer, before Carla decided to end that relationship in good health). Feli doesn't know about his sister's past with Valerio, nor does he care much either. He, however, although occasionally accepts to get high with Valerio, doesn't fall in the same game as Carla and is one of the people, along with Caye, who try to get Valerio out of his addiction.
- As for the Blanco siblings, MencĂa's plot would continue as is, without too many changes (ie: Armando). We would see Ari mostly as her father's informant, initially her going through Samuel's cell phone as she started hanging out with him, seeing if she could find any information related to Polo's death. As for Patrick, his plot this season would be basically the opposite of Ari's: the pressure he has on him due to his father, and the guilt BenjamĂn blames him for not taking care of MencĂa the night of his mother's accident. Throughout the season we would see him begin to despair more and more because of this, these being the bases of the approach that he would have with Valerio (where he would begin to try to get away from his problems through drugs), which would end in their future relationship [see below].
- Christian would appear as a recurring character. His scenes are based on visits given to him by Samuel, or even perhaps GuzmĂĄn, in prison. His permanence this season would be used to generate tension for the public, especially since (as mentioned at the beginning), the police would end up releasing him, due to lack of evidence against him. Let's say they take his statement as a result of the alcohol he drank at the party. It is his potential (and definitive) release from prison, which causes the arrival of the Benjamins in Madrid, with Benjamin trying to seek justice for the family of his dead wife.
Characters relationships this season: Samuel + Ari + GuzmĂĄn. - The love triangle was a pretty dire plot that only increased the public's hatred towards Ari for having separated Nadia and GuzmĂĄn, and for being the reason for the loss of all the development that GuzmĂĄn and Samu's relationship had had for three seasons.
- Only Samuel remains her love interest, setting up that possible future "fatheson" connection between him and Benjamin.
- GuzmĂĄn, for his side, would continue to have a long-distance love relationship with Nadia through video calls, and towards the end of the season, she surprises him with a visit to Madrid.
Samuel and Ari's relationship would not be there just as one more of the season, but would serve as an element for the plot:
Ari would have approached Samuel after learning that he was Christian's close friend (the accused in Polo's murder) to try to obtain information.
However, her feelings towards him would become true over the course of the season, thus seeing a kind of development in her character, which would allow the public to empathize with her. - At some point near the season finale, Samuel would learn of Ari's and her family's connection to Polo's family, and the real reasons she had reached out to him. He would break up with her right then.
- Ari finally confesses the rest of the story, filling in the puzzle pieces that Samuel was missing. He claims that it hadn't all been fake, not for her: she had really fallen for him.
- As a possible redemption ending for the character, Ari vows not to tell her father about the truth after Polo's death, guided by the love she had come to feel for Samuel.
Rebeka + MencĂa: - I don't want to make changes to their relationship, because what they showed us about them this season was very beautiful and well developed. As a general rule of the season, they would also fall into the category of "no unnecessary sexualization of characters", which would mean getting rid of scenes like the one with the melted chocolate...
- We know that, aside to Rebeka, MencĂa has her own plot with Armando, which is what triggers Rebeka's attack that leaves her in the hospital.
Patrick + Valerio: - "Replacement" for Ander-Patrick-Omar's love triangle idea, without the drama and toxicity that this trio represented. Ander and Omar are gone. Valerio and Patrick? Both are wild partiers with drug-abusing tendencies. Let's match them up and watch them explode and burn, because that would be very funny.
- Later it could be revealed (or not) that Patrick would have approached Valerio at Ari's request, to try to obtain some information regarding Polo's case, at the insistence of their father.
Felipe ... + Cayetana? - Since Felipe is a modified version of Phillipe, it would make sense for Caye to take the same position on wanting to help him despite his past, just as she did with Phillipe. Although this season I have said that I want to focus more on Caye's psyche after Polo's death, and that I don't know if she would be in the best place to want to be in a romantic relationship... In this case, maybe in this version we could reverse the roles of this couple...
- The rapprochement between them would (probably) take place thanks to the fact that they would now both have Valerio as a person in common: they both know each other thanks to him, and apparently they feel sympathy for each other when they meet. This could give us shared scenes of them at school, with Felipe defending Caye from Ari's teasing for her being a janitor (as an example).
- The real rapprochement between the two would occur at the moment when Felipe realizes that Cayetana doesn't seem to be in her best moment. He tries to get closer to her, to help her. We see him also trying to talk to Rebeka, to see if she knows what is happening to Caye, and it is Rebeka who, after several attempts, ends up revealing to him that Cayetana used to be Polo's girlfriend, along with Valerio. This was the explanation that Feli needed.
- That night, Felipe would go to Cayetana's house to try to talk to her, to comfort her. We would see a scene of a brief kiss between them before Cayetana separated from him, crying. Finally Caye had snapped. She would be the person who would finally break the pact of silence: she would reveal to Felipe that she knew who had killed Polo, and that it had not been Christian. The scene would end at that moment, tacitly implying that she would have revealed the whole truth to Felipe, although making him swear that he must not tell anyone.
- This confession would be what Cayetana needed to do so as not to fall into madness, so as not to continue feeling guilty. After that, her anxiety attacks would apparently start to subside, little by little. We would see her less nervous, although several times she would go to Felipe repeating that he must not tell anyone the truth, fearing what others could do if they found out that she had broken the silent pact.
- By the season finale, she would finally face Felipe, and the question of "What is this we have?". She apologizes to him, but tells him that it wouldn't be fair to let whatever they had go any further if she wouldn't end up being fully there for him. She was in no condition to have another relationship. Not after Polo... (and for the final ending of the last episode... not after Valerio). He gets it. They both end up on good terms, hugging each other. They are both crying over Valerio's death (this would be the flashforeward scene we would have seen in the first episodes).
By season finale, GuzmĂĄn drops out of school: he decides to join Nadia in the US. - It's reveal that he feels guilty for getting away from everyone, especially because of what he has just discovered about MencĂa. Her âbrotherly instinctâ tells him that he must stay to protect her, but in the end they show us a scene of both saying goodbye to each other in peace, and MencĂa crying, thanking him for having put Armando in jail.
- There would be a farewell scene between him and Samuel, closing their plot as "brothers".

So, that's it! My second take on a season 4 rewrite. Those who read my original post will have noticed that several things were literally a copy and paste of the original post. But I feel that it is the additions that I made thanks to the comments on that post that really end up giving the seasoning to this version ^-^ submitted by

2023.06.04 09:31 bvanevery Strategic Antimatter turn 32
I have of course played an awful lot of games since that previous one with the earlyish transport that I of course didn't finish. Very consistent pattern is I get bored to death by the 17 hour mark. I realize all the ways my empire is an unproductive bog and start over. I'm never losing nowadays, I'm just not obviously doing well. Game drags on forever and threatens to take forever. It makes me think there are probably not all that many viable ways to play the game.
why stop at one major facility To get this homeworld, I of course rerolled lots and lots of times until there wasn't a pile of useless farmland in the way. Or obstructed mutually conflicting bonuses and all that rot. It just so happened that this patch of clear planet, was gifted with both Helios Ore and Arnor Spice. I consider that a very, very good start.
So I beelined for the Antimatter Power Plant, as I think it is probably the only way this game can actually be played. I've been all over the early tech tree and it's the only thing that obviously has a big payoff. I went through a phase of finally understanding the Altarian study of Relics, how that can seriously goose their Research. But it leads one into making a lot of far flung starbases. One ends up with a lot of techs, but not a lot of productivity to make use of the techs. And those starbases can be hard to defend.
After the APP I built the Strategic Command. That takes us to turn 32. I could have rushed one of these with cash and gotten it done even earlier, but I didn't bother. There's no real competition for these facilities this early in the game. Someone built The Hyperspace Project and Tyron's Destiny while I was at this.
I planned the location of the SC from the beginning of the game. The APP I didn't really think about that hard. "Well, not where the SC is" was about my thinking. It'll take some terraforming later on to fully leverage it. At least I'll have a Central Bank up in a minute here.
a smallish empire On a 2nd planet I also built the Deep Core Mine. Productivity on turn 32 is pretty good. Actual military capability is lackluster, as I've only got Weapons Systems and Defensive Systems. I've seen the Krynn running around with some big 8-point kinetic gun, so now I'll have to trundle through the military techs. It can't be all bad though, because I'm ranked #3 militarily. That's a little odd as I've only made some Tiny ships. Maybe most other races seriously suck this early?
I can't be your friend Lizards are cute, but multiple eyes and religious zealotry are not. I mean what a creep show! These jerks are most likely to give me trouble in any given game. They also have a tendency to start next to me for some reason. Maybe the game knows I've got Helios Ore and Arnor Spice lol. Well I'm hoping to get the drop on them this time, instead of having to be reactive. For this reason I never offered them Open Borders. I wonder if I can avoid being called a warmonger this time? Let them do it.
A Huge map, Genius difficulty, all default races in, has a consistent long term pattern. A Malevolent race or races weaken themselves throwing themselves at my shipyards and tiny ships. Assuming I survive all of that, which I typically expect nowadays, then other races start tearing them up. In not too long a time, the Malevolents are gone. Other races may be jockeying about, but from my perspective as a Benevolent, my life becomes pretty darned peaceful.
And by then, I've flipped a fair number of worlds due to influence, and then... it's just such a drag to maintain everything. Just can't deal with farms and food distribution anymore. I quit.
I've only played 1 game that lasted 30 hours, and I quit that one. It was threatening to take even more time, with no resolution in sight. All my other games, 20 hours tops. Usually tap out at 17. Probably has something to do with my waking and sleeping cycles. I might take 2 days to play 1 of these games.

2023.06.04 08:54 Digital_Oceans What work can I do as an owner builder?
| QLD, looking to build in underneath my house and do as much myself as possible under an owner builder permit, the issue is, I canât see a specific list of work I can and canât do. Here is my plan, is there any issues with it? -Area is about 35m2, there is already 1 room build in, this will be an extension to that, under the main house. -Purchase plans and permits through a building design service. -Have slab done by professional. -I will frame everything, install doors windows etc. -Have electrical and plumbing fit out. -I will finish everything (floors, trims, plaster, paint, waterproofing, bathroom fit out etc.) Do you see any issue with this? The other part I canât see a clear answer on is if/who I have to engage to deem the place habitable once the work is completed? Will there be any issue with this due to the amount of DIY I want to complete, assuming everything is done to the plan and per code? Thanks in advance! submitted by Digital_Oceans to AusRenovation [link] [comments] |
2023.06.04 08:46 idkventplace Last night I dumped out all of my parent's alcohol per my dad's request
Hi, using a throwaway because I have family who is on reddit a lot and knows my account. I also want to apologize if any of this is formatted poorly or hard to read, I tend to just write what immediately comes to my mind.
Anyways, last night I (nb19) got off of work late and my dad picked me up (I don't have my license yet) and we started to drive home. On the way, my dad got a call from one of my mom's best friends and when I asked why she would be calling him since it wasn't really normal, he said he doesn't know but he couldn't answer now. He also told me he knows she and my mom were talking on the phone when he left. I found this weird because I know he can easily answer the phone while driving (it's connected to the car and he's done it before) and it only made it worse when I saw that she then sent him 4 texts after he let it go to voicemail.
My suspicions were right unfortunately, because when we got home I could hear my mom yelling and crying in her bedroom and she was clearly drunk, but worse than she normally gets because I could barely make out what she was saying even when she was yelling. The living room is right by my parent's bedroom and the walls are pretty thin, so I promise I wasn't eavesdropping in their conversation. Honestly, I really, really didn't want to be in the living room but I had other responsibilities that I could only do in there at the time. However, it meant I was subjected to hearing my mom cry and yell about how nobody loves her and it broke me.
I also heard my dad mention that her best friend wanted him to get her to a hospital but she refused, I don't think they ended up going but I ran downstairs to my room as soon as I could so I don't know for sure. I don't know why my mom is hurting so much, I know she has been for the past couple of weeks and she's been verbally berating my dad during them. And please know this is all just from an outsiders perspective, I don't know what happens in her mind at all or what really happens in their relationship but it's been very emotionally taxing to hear it. She's also been on a shorter fuse lately, as she's been yelling at me more as well. She's always had a bit of a problem with yelling when I was growing up but she had gotten better in the past few years until now.
Anyways, I go downstairs to hide in my room and a few hours later I get a text from my dad at 1 am telling me to dump out all the alcohol in the downstairs bar. Of course, I said yes but it was a very surreal experience. I was standing there in my underwear at 1 am, opening the fridge and every cabinet I can looking for alcohol and pouring them down the drain. I spent about 20 minutes doing it, and I even had to dump out my dad's 's collectable bottle of jack daniel's that he's had for years which felt even weirder. I really don't know how to accurately describe what I was feeling, but I almost felt like I wasn't in my body at some points.
I finished it, texted my dad, texted my best friend about the experience because they were the only person I could think to talk about it, and then cried myself to sleep.
Today has been fairly normal, as far as I'm aware. I've been downstairs for most of it but my dad seems fine thankfully, but I've only seen my mom from a glimpse of her sleeping in their bedroom earlier in the day. I don't know what happened or what will happen but I'm scared and I feel like my life is falling a part and I don't know who else I can go to to vent, I really really don't want to bother my friend anymore with it because they already have so much shit happening in their own life. I figured here would be a good place to let it out.
And if I can be selfish for a second, and I'm really sorry if I'm making my mother's struggles about me, but I can't help but to mentally berate myself over this. I don't know what I did to make her life so miserable, I can't remember the last time I ever did something that made her happy. I've been trying even harder the past few weeks because I noticed she's been struggling with stuff, offered to help her with more stuff, offered to buy her more snacks, got her ice cream for mother's day (this is the first mother's day I've had my own money because of my job). But it's not enough and she still broke down and I don't know what to do. I don't know why I can't make her smile, why everything I do makes her mad, I just feel so lost and I hate knowing that my mom would be happier if I was never in her life.
Thank you to whoever read it this far, sorry it's so long.

2023.06.04 08:31 InkDiamond (cont.) [PI] Theyâd scrounged up what little they had, but neither knew what to do next. They had never been in a situation like this beforeânever attended such an event. What the Archives called: a par-ty
(Note: this is the second half of the story. Will link the first half shortly)
The two teens both looked toward the front of the room. There was a gray sphere. Hovering in the doorway.
But if you asked Marc, it was an annoying gray sphere. And it hovered in the doorway like an absolute rustnut.
Marc wasnât sure where on the sphere to level his disdain. The whole dumb surface was the same all over. It was a series of interconnected, translucent hexagons. Stupid yellow lights blinked sporadically across its many facesâfor no apparent rhyme or reasonâperhaps just to further annoy Marc.
An electronic voice called out from the sphere. âDid I hear muuuuuusic?â he asked. âBefore that last plasma burst?â
Marc shot Sid a glare that could kill. But the big blue alien didnât back down.
âLast impression. Remember?â he told Marc before going toward TĆn-E with a brimming, sharp-toothed smile and arms extended. âTĆn-E! Glad you could make it! Come on in.â
On the inside, Marc cringed. He mostly tried to forget that TĆn-E walked (hovered?) the same Levels as them. TĆn-E represented the most self-destructive habits of the Outpost. The only features of the city indifferent to survival.
But TĆn-E was all too real. He entered the room like a ghost in a nightmare.
âI am also happy to be here,â he said. The faces of his sphere randomly lit up as he spoke. âI otherwise had no plans for tonight. Because the planet is set to explode.â
âYes, Iâve heard,â Sid joked.
âI approximate it will only take a few moreâhold on. What is this??â
TĆn-E spun slowly in the air. The side previously facing Sid rotated toward the ceiling. When it reached the top, a spotlight shot toward the ceilingâright where Sidâs door had slotted in.
The spotlight stretched horizontally across the door until it resembled a straight line. This line swept back and forth across the raised door. It moved as if he was cleaning it.
âI donât believe it!â TĆn-E said. âWhat an exquisite painting. A remarkable addition to your growing and ever-expanding portfolio, Sid.â
TĆn-E finished his scan of the painting. His expanding spotlight shut off. And he re-centered himself to face Sid.
âAww, shanks,â Sid said. Each of his right arms latched onto the bends of the left ones. âYou really think so?â
âOf course! There are colors here Iâve only seen named in the logs. You have tastefully incorporated /#FF00FF: a color our ancestors previously referred to as âmagenta.ââ
âYes! Thatâs right! I was going for âmagenta!â You really think I did it?â
Marc looked down to hide his face. He rolled his eyes. Magenta. He would have loved to tell Sid how much he liked it too. But Marc had spent his years surviving, not studying colors in old, useless historical archives.
Sid and TĆn-E continued their snooty, pretentious discussion.
âI made it mixing legblee blood and just a liiiiiiittle bit of groundwater,â Sid said.
âThat was a very clever! Allow me to save your painting to my internal memory.â
âReally??â Sidâs cheeks greened a little.
âYes, I will review at a later time when I am both unable to view the original but would still like to once again be inspired by your clever and skillful hands.â
âTĆn-E, IâI donât know what to say. Thank you.â
Marc simmered in his anger. Stupid TĆn-E. Always ruining things. Making them about him and his dumb, endless archives.
âI am perhaps only more impressed by your chosen ensemble! Do my eyes perceive veritable Lenorkian armor?â
The talkative orb whooshed toward Sid. It began revolving around him like an annoyingly-attached moon. As his exo-orb hummed excitedly, TĆn-E rattled off his useless knowledge of antiquated armor.
âSnorp-resistant spiked shoulder caps?!â He spun around Sidâs midsection. âTriple-layered chest plates?!â He dropped closer to the floor. âAnti-gravity shin guards made from the rare lenorkium alloy?!â
TĆn-E giggled as he orbited Sid. His laugh disturbed Marc. It sounded like a space rat being strangled in the bowels of an undersea air vent.
Sid could hardly keep up with TĆn-Eâs flying. But he looked happy with the attention. âYeah! Iâm told this suit was built for the Frost Ring wars,â he said. âIt never got used.â
Marc continued to not engage. He slunk deeper into his shawl, folded his arms, and sighed.
âI donât believe it!â TĆn-E said.
He backed off from Sid, flying back toward the doorway. He turned on his spotlight once again. It now stretched over Sidâs body. âSaving! Saving!â
Sid wasted no time posing for the occasion. He flexed all four arms and gritted his snaggling teeth. His irises turned a deep red and his two small horns protruded from his forehead. TĆn-E was overjoyed. âI did not think I would ever have the chance to record your agitated state,â he said.
Iâll show you an agitated state, Marc thought to himself.
âIâve got a relic youâre going to love,â TĆn-E said. His tiny sphere filled the cave with noise. But it wasnât TĆn-Eâs usual metallic voice. The sound came from another species entirely.
âGwwwwwwuuuhhhAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRR!â
His orb played an intense, ear-shuddering roar. The recording may have been slightly fuzzy, but Marc knew the source. It was unmistakably Lenorkian.
And like the gears in a drill, something appeared to âclickâ inside Sid. His eyes widened. His armored chest expanded. And he joined in. But Sidâs roar was⊠authentic.
âHRRRRRRRRRGAAAAAAAAHHHHHâ he blasted out of mouth. Marcâs entire rib cage vibrated uncomfortably.
It spooked Marc. Igniting some primal desire to escape a dangerous predator. That was a feeling he never felt around Sid. He didnât like it.
Sid himself even looked embarrassed for a second. Something heâd kept suppressed had slipped out. But TĆn-E turned up the volume on his recording. And with a cautious smile of someone nervously breaking a rule, Sid matched it. And then some. The two bellowed together. It was enough to make Marc queasy, although it was unclear whether it was due to the vibrations or Sid bonding so much with TĆn-E.
The roaring continued. Their talking continued. TĆn-E went on about Sidâs armor some more and his peopleâs valor and the hardship his ancestors must have faced.
âUsually I keep this stuff stashed away,â Sid said to TĆn-E in his soft normal voice. His horns had retracted, and his eyes had returned to normal. âThese are shameful pieces of our history. Truly. And with a people I never really fit in with. But tonight, it just felt right to wear it, you know?â
âI understand completely,â TĆn-E said. âIt is in these end times that we gravitate toward those traditions that were so much of what made us feel alive in the first place.â
The statement made Marc want to hurl. He didnât want to entertain such stupid notions. But the gremlin rotated to him next.
âHello Marc! Did you find any good junk today? Any new additions to your scrap pile?â
Marc seethed. âI didn't scavenge today, TĆn-E. There wouldn't be any use. It's the end of the universe.â
âThat surprises me. Humans love their junk and doodads.â
âYeah well, we donât have to cling to the past, do we? Not like that ever saved anyone.â He hugged his wrapped arms even tighter, tilting his body away from Sid and TĆn-E. His cold shoulder ended the conversation.
Sid picked it back up. âSo TĆn-E, do you, uh⊠drink?â
As it turned out, he did. TĆn-E accepted a cup of fludge. He held it with a robotic armâone that had suddenly extended from his exo-orb. TĆn-Eâs orb whirred as the center of his âfaceâ sprouted a grotesque, needle-like proboscis. It poked outward like a long nose.
This straw extended into the cup he held. TĆn-E sipped the fludge like an insect sipping nectar (whatever those two things were; the Archives were spotty).
Sid waited with anticipation. Then TĆn-Eâs sphere shuddered. The fludge must have reached the insufferable little creature on the inside. âScrumptious!â he said.
Marc sighed quietly to himself. For some reason, he thought the night would have made a turn for the better if TĆn-E had hated it.
âTwo for two!â Sid pumped three victorious fists into the air. He grinned as TĆn-Eâs straw dipped into the cup once more. The straw made a little slurping sound.
âMy taste buds are tingling!â TĆn-E said.
But the big cup was too much for him to finish. He returned the mostly-full drink to Sid. And his robotic straw receded to his exo-orb. Sid of course finished the cup, slurping up the remaining pool of fludge.
âSoâŠâ Sid said. He wiped his mouth. âShould I put some tunes back on?â He pointed over his shoulder to the idle vent. Then he looked across his two guests for an answer.
Marc shrugged. He didnât care about anything anymore. Next to Marc, TĆn-E bobbed excitedly.
âOh, yes!â he said. âOne reads about concepts such as scales and measures, but it is entirely different to actually experience them with oneâs own body!â
What body? Marc thought to himself. And what were the other things TĆn-E had mentioned? Something about⊠measuring⊠dragons?
He studied the cave floor while Sid skipped to the vent.
âThatâs what Iâm talking about!â Sid said. âGet those Level 7 legs ready!â He tugged at the creaking cover once more.
It came off easier this time. With a pop! the storm above returned to the cave. Its natural melody filled the room.
âWoooooooo!â Sid raised his hands again and walked back toward the other two.
TĆn-E mimicked him with two twig arms.
But the music didnât have the same magic as before. The beats were stale. And Marc found himself unable to ignore the sting of the sand pelting his face. He lifted his shawl over his mouth. His voice was barely audible.
âIâm sitting this song out,â he said.
The other two didn't seem to hear him. They were facing each other, waving their arms sporadically against the air current.
Marc didnât care. He grabbed his unfinished drink from the kitchen. Then he searched for a place to sit.
He found a couch, just in front of the dancing aliens. As he took his seat, his bottom started to sink into the sofa. The tarp covering the couch crinkled.
He tried guessing the material underneath it. Clay, maybe? He pondered the question while watching Sid and TĆn-E figure out dancing without him.
âThis is how Marc was doing it before!â Sid said to TĆn-E. His four arms fanned across the breeze.
But he got everything wrong. His arms whipped around the wind, not with it. And he was thinking too much about his next move, as evidenced by his scrunched brows. But the greatest offense of all was his midsection: his hips and legs stayed in placeâas if someone had threatened them.
A part of Marc wanted to get up and show him how it was done. But another part wanted to see Sid fail. Realize the effort was futile. Give up on bonding with TĆn-E. And kick the Sphere of Useless Facts out of his house.
âAm I doing it right, Marc?â Sid asked while each of his arms flew in a different direction.
âYou look great!â Marc replied. He took a long sip of fludge.
TĆn-E, on the other hand, did his best to replicate Sid. He waved his skinny arms erratically. It almost made Marc laugh; TĆn-E looked like heâd been set on fire.
But in all, the whole thing was awful. A bad impression giving birth to an even worse impression.
And they didnât seem to be enjoying it much either. Despite Marcâs glowing endorsement, Sid and TĆn-E danced themselves to the brink.
Sid kept losing his balance. He tried to keep up with the music but flung himself too hard in any one direction. And every time he made a misstep, heâd let loose an acidic snarl. TĆn-E grew frustrated as well. Every few seconds, he simply froze. His exterior lights would blink red in error. As Marc had hoped, the two âpainting palsâ quickly ran out of steam.
The dancing halted altogether. A tired Sid returned to the vent and hoisted the grate back onto the ventâs mouth. The music stopped.
âIâll just turn it down for a minute,â he said. He adjusted a dial on the grate. The metal slits creaked open. And a muted sandstorm flowed through them.
The music reflected the overall energy in the room: depleted. Sid secured himself two more cups of fludge before joining Marc on the tarp couch.
TĆn-E followed his lead. The little troll took a seat too, which meant hovering over the last open spot on the other side of Marc.
The boys took a minute to relax on the couch. They sat quietly while the plasma storm above the Outpost boomed and cracked.
Well, Sid and TĆn-E relaxed. They chugged down another couple cups of fludge and floated quietly over the couch (respectively). Meanwhile, Marc continued to be annoyed. He considered stepping outside and climbing to Level 1. Offer himself to the plasma storm a few hours early. The non-stop hum of TĆn-Eâs exo-orb goaded him further.
Brrrrrrrrr!
Did it really have to make that noise?
Marc didnât think the afternoon could get any worse. And then it did. Because TĆn-Eâs insufferable humming suddenly quieted. And that only could have meantâŠ
âOh!â TĆn-E exclaimed, âI know what we can talk about!â
Marc braced for impact. His nails dug into his knees.
Donât you dare, he thought.
âI read the most interesting fact about cats today!â TĆn-E started.
Not again, Marc thought. Absolutely NOT again. His fists trembled with rage.
âDid you know cats were the central deity across ten different ancient civilizations? The trend started with humans, of course, but the religion quickly spread across the galaxy as interplanetary travel became more widely available.â
âI actually didnât know that,â Sid said, entertaining TĆn-Eâs ridiculous theory. âWhere did you find that?â
âThe Archives! They have somewhat documented this phenomenon. You see, it was a common practice to capture footage of cats, even in their sleeping state. They were so important to these cultures that even the most mundane moment yielded significant reason to capture and worship them. If you want to see, I canââ
Marc had had enough. He slammed his cup down on the floor and flew off the couch.
ââSHUT UP. SHUT UP ABOUT CATS!â he shouted. He swung back around to face the other two. âCATS ARENâT REAL TĆN-E! AND THEY WERE NEVER REAL!â
âThatâs enough, Marc!â Sid clenched his teeth.âDonât start this.â
Marc returned fire, âI didnât start anything; that was YOU. Going behind my back! Inviting more of these⊠fairy tales!â
His emotions overwhelmed him. He didnât know whether to yell more or start crying. He did both.
âItâs the end of the universe!â he said as tears streamed down his face. âWe canât keep clinging to the things that brought us to this point in the first place! All these stupid traditions are the reason no oneâs even here with us now! IT KILLED THEM ALL! And anyone stupid enough to keep believing in them isâ"
ââI said THATâS ENOUGH!â Sid growled. Marc didn't care.
âNO!â he said. Then he looked back at TĆn-E. âNONE of what youâre seeing in the Archives is real! The data is corrupt! Itâs ALL CORRUPT! And CATS are just another dumb fairy tale to keep people like you going, whileâŠâ
He ran out of steam. He realized there was no more âgoing.â In fact, there was no time remaining in the universe for anything. But that didnât diminish his animosity and anger toward the world. He glared down at the gray sphere. His chest heaved.
Meanwhile, Sid kept a cooler, bluer head. He too looked to TĆn-E, but with compassion in his eyes.
TĆn-E didnât immediately respond to either. The only sound in the room came from his exo-orb. Well, the exo-orb plus the ladle on the counter, which suddenly blooped into the big pot.
All eyes were on the atypically quiet alien, whose hexagonal faces began to light up.
âI suppose,â his voice trailed, âthat cats may not have been real after all. You said it yourself: records are foggy. Theyâre all from thousands of years ago...â He sighed. TĆn-Eâs lights transitioned to a new blinking pattern. âAnd I also suppose⊠that I should have been more mature about interpreting error-prone information in the ArchivesâŠâ
âIt's okay, man,â Sid said. âI like that you dream big.â He reached across the couch to place a comforting hand on TĆn-E. But TĆn-E floated out of reach.
âI understand my presence here is probably upsetting,â he said. âYou two have a special bond. I should not have interfered with it in its last moments. I will go.â
âNo, TĆn-E,â Sid said. Each pair of his hands met in front of his chest âPlease stay. You have every right to be here too.â
âI should go,â TĆn-E said. âI will spend the rest of the evening focused on real things. And because I will no longer be here, I suppose it will be the perfect opportunity to review Sidâs art so I can feel inspired for the end times.â
He slipped between Sid and Marc toward the doorway.
âNo, donât!â Sid called after him. âWe should do this together.â
But TĆn-E had already vanished outside.
The Lenorkian, hand extended, waited for TĆn-E to come back. But the floating sphere did not reappear in the doorway.
And that was when a low trill emanated from the couch. It was coming from Sidâs his chest. He looked up at Marc, glaring. He bared his pointed teeth. His horns reappeared. And his eyes flushed with scarlet pigment.
Yuh-oh, Marc thought. About half his prior anger evaporated. Fear of a fight took hold.
Marc didnât exactly dislike his chances. Lenorkians may have been stronger, but Sid wasn't a fighter. Marc was.
But Sid stuck to his morals.
âGET OUT!â Sid shouted.
Marc reflexively jumped out of reach. The short hop sort of ruined his show of anger. But he was still boiling mad. After all, fifty percent of him hadn't abandoned the cat grudge.
âFine!â he shouted back. âHave fun exploding alone.â He whipped away to the exit.
The party was finished now. He almost stopped and went back for his fludge. But he didnât want it anymore either. He just wanted a nice end of the universe with his friend. And now the end of the universe was ruined.
At least the apocalypse outside was behaving predictably. Marc stepped into the adjacent cave corridor. He surveyed the damage outside, looking through the long, horizontal gap in the cave wall. As the experts had predicted, the plasma storm took its toll.
The canyon glowed eerily bright, despite it being evening time. The wind howled as it raced through the canyon. And the cliffs around the gorge flashed white and pink as the storm charged with electricity, preparing to make its final jump.
Lightning cracked toward the ground. Some of the bolts hit the opposing cliff, sending rubble deep into the gorge. A gentle tremor rumbled in the ground beneath him.
The plasma storm overhead only creeped further around the planet. As the canyon brightened, shockwaves coursed through the entire city. They threw Marc off his feet again. He hit the ground.
Behind him, thunderous clacking erupted. The sound of falling rocks filled the corridor. He flipped over to see what explosion had thrown him.
It was bad. He stopped breathing. Because he could no longer see Sidâs home. All he saw was a pile of rubble.

2023.06.04 08:17 justinwrite2 Criticize my first chapter please!
Totally new to this, would love critique on my first chapter. Give it to me real. I want to improve: this may just be a hobby but I love it!
What you see on Page One.
Read Seekers, until daytime fades to candlelight, For magic is found when ink breathes life to parchment, When bookbindings break and cradled words take flight. Itâs the safety of cozying up near the warming hearth, And the rising steam from a wellworn mug Itâs that smile when you turn the page in delight.
That cool little quote thing before a chapter starts that gives you background.
West of the Citadel Clouds, Bordering Mountain Pines and fickle Seashine Lies the renowned Port Cardica Where sailors sing and blight-born orphans dream.
Chapter 1
A Slip Away from Death
Like most boys, Jake chose snoring in the pews over memorizing the Churchâs proverbs. A clear mistake, he realized, as the Pastor's warning that âprayer follows dangerâ proved true. Hanging precipitously from the cliffâs edge, Jake recited every Creed he could remember in a futile attempt to appease any watching Gods.
âProsper in his light, heathentry outside his sight,â he prayed, feet kicking in a desperate search for better footing.
It was a stowawaysâ stanza, a tenet meant to share wisdom in ways the thickest of Port Cardicaâs orphan dockboys could understand but, like most doctrine, its religious meaning was lost in translation.
Instead, the impoverished boys interpreted it as a practical warning to keep their heads down. Everyone knew the cityâs Nobles revered the Book and claimed their prosperity was proof of Godsâ favor. Of course, beggars knew better: one downward glance at them revealed the decay fueling Cardicaâs burgeoning wealth. Still, the poor learned to philosophize quietly. Someone was to blame for the hoveltowns, bird droppings, and penetrating seafood stink, and it better not be you.
For his part, Jake blamed himself. If heâd scaled the cliff wall with just a bit more care and a bit less haste heâd never have slipped. Instead heâd been forced to violently slow his descent, bruising bones and trading skin for friction on the vertical slope. It wasnât a graceful maneuver by any means, but it beat falling hundreds of feet into the freezing current below. Thankfully, years as a guttersnipe had honed his reflexes â his gangly arms lacked the strength of a Swordsquire or the coordination of a Majpupil, but his daily dance with starvation demanded nimble fingers and quick wit.
That experience wasnât paying off. As Jake shuffled his feet around to find better purchase, his hands slipped on the accruing condensation from the ongoing manastorm. His grip flagged, then failed, and he had neither the magic nor the strength to escape the weight of gravity.
âIt isn't written, it isnât writtenâ Jake recited frantically as he began to plummet. The other dockboys would laugh at his superstition, but he didnât care. Many claimed the Creeds were lucky, and Jake desperately needed some luck. Instinctively he spread his arms out as wide as possible, hoping to extend his reach and grip onto something.
By some miracle, It worked. The resounding sound of cloth ripping accompanied Jake as he slammed into the stone cliff, teetering to a stop. He hung like a rag doll, held up only by the hem of his matted, brown tunic; the cheap weavings had snagged and torn on an outcropping of stone.
âAughhhâ he mumbled.
He had survived, but everything hurt. Looking down to inspect the damage, Jake saw that his calloused hands were raw and pebbled, but a quick flex confirmed he hadnât broken any fingerbones. Breathing a sigh of relief, he gasped at the telltale sting every kicked streetrat knew so well.
âPo-Poetâs hand,â Jake swore.
He grabbed the cliff wall to stabilize himself and, seeing as it had worked so far, continued reciting the few Creeds he could remember. A minute passed before he was able to think clearly, but slowly Jake got his breathing under control and continued his self-assessment.
Overall, he felt like things couldnât have gone much worse. His cracked ribs hurt and continuing the heist would only exacerbate the damage, leading to scarring or permanent hobbling. Jake had seen many dockbeggars with similar injuries from fights or beatings, unable to walk straight without being plagued by the stitchers cough.
For this reason alone, Jake briefly considered giving up. He quickly dismissed the idea â it might be madness to continue climbing in his condition, but heâd come too far to back out now. Heâd planned this heist for months, obsessively pathing his break-in while waiting for a night when security would be light. In retrospect, heâd been a fool; his overly cautious preparations left no possibility for a second attempt before his 15th birthday.
No, despite his injury tonight was still his best hope to successfully steal a Scriptorsâ Grimoire before Binding Day. Failure would mean enslavement as a Ruddite or worse, full Automation. Heâd just have to trust the windy weather to mute his movements and the harvest moons to light his way.
So, teeth chattering with cold and fear, Jake resumed the ascent. His ribs sang in agony as he put one hand in front of the other, slowly turning small divots into handholds, footholds and leverage. Each bouldering movement made him wince, but over the years heâd honed the art of turning sweat and grit into capillary action. Heâd had no other choice; richmen shared a passion for building impenetrable estates, forcing thieves to develop an unshaking hand at scaling them.
Five painstaking minutes of climbing later and Jake regained his original position. Salty sweat matted his brow and stinged his eyes but he persevered. He blinked slowly to clear his vision and shuffled his feet left over right, shivering his way across an inch-wide protrusion. Just a few meters above him stood the lip of the granite outcropping and access to the marble fortress built upon it. Jake tasted copper as he bit the inside of his cheek in anticipation â If the heist went well heâd finally change his destiny and be able to swear upon the Sermonâs Book on his own terms.
But first he had to finish the climb. He knew the manorâs sentries rotated hourly, eyes glued to the sky as they watched for flyingmen and attacks from above. He also knew that all these guards would be literate, but none especially gifted. After all, no one powerful enough to be a Writer would stand watch over another man's fortune. The chartered Maji Wordlings, on the other hand, could easily detect Jake if he hadnât planned for them in advance. He chose tonight because it was the seasonâs Lenting, meaning the majority of Maji would be in communion until the sun rose.
âWhat is writtenâ a gruff voice proclaimed, startling Jake.
It was muffled by the wind, so it took him a moment to realize it was coming from directly above him. Jake craned his neck and peered up; to his horror he could see the silhouette of a guard's shadow on the cliff wall.
Petrified, Jake hugged his body to the cold granite, hoping the darkness of the windy night would hide his form. His entire plan hung on the simple thesis that in a world of magidetectors and magflight, no one would expect an unbound to scale the walls. Great in theory, but what if a guard just happened to look down?
âIs Foretold and Forbidden,â another voice chanted, completing the customary greeting. âAll safe on the watch?â
âAll is safe and silent, as usual,â the first man grunted.
âDonât sound so upset,â the second laughed. âWe chose this job because itâs easy, remember? No more treading through the mud, no more war with those blasted barren beasts and their infernal warlocks.â
âThatâs true, althou..â
The menâs voices were swept up in the wind as they paced further down the stone perimeter. They hadnât seen him, but, just to be safe, Jake stayed low until he could no longer hear the stamping of metal-toed boots on stone. Then, fingers white and aching in trepidation, he waited another 30 seconds.
Finishing his count, Jake peaked over the edge. It took all the courage he had earned as a thief and every bit of boldness he had learned as a beggar, but he managed it.
The coast was clear.
Jake carefully pulled himself over the ledge before falling into a crouch. He looked around and exhaled painfully, releasing a breath he had not realized he was holding.
In front of him lay an outdoor walkway culminating in a rippling fountain circumscribed by five basalt pillars of progressively increasing height. Everflowing torches adorned each of the columns and burned despite the rain, casting rings of golden light throughout the open atrium. At the foot of the fountain rose a gold-leafed speaker's lectern, a pure white sculpture of the Sermon Book chiseled open upon it.
Jake stared openmouthed at the power radiating from the fountain before abruptly coming to his senses. Without a doubt this artifact was a Magisma, an extremely expensive construct meant to amplify its controllerâs magic. Leaving it outside was a casual display of wealth and power meant to shock and impress, but Jake didnât have time for that.
Instead Jake blended into the shadows cast by the monument as he sneaked his way across the grounds. After passing the walkway the torchlight dimmed considerably, forcing him to hobble his way in the dark. A bright flash startled him, but the acid smell of tobacco that accompanied it indicated the guards heâd seen earlier were smoking to pass the time. Realizing they were distracted, Jake sped up and almost tripped on the jutting crystals of an emerald rock garden. Embarrassed, he paused to listen for anyone approaching.
Everything was quiet except for the constant pitter, patter and hiss of rain from the manastorm. It seemed his home-invasion had so far gone unnoticed, but the hair on Jakeâs neck rose. An unsettling feeling of being watched set in and every few seconds he reflexively looked over his shoulder.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, he made it to the Manor wall. Keeping to the shadows, Jake hid behind the tallest thing he could find; a towering yellow flower with leaves the size of platters that he had never seen before. Staying low, he muddied his knees and toes on the damp ground, but thankfully the foliage protected him from the rain. As his eyes adjusted to less light, Jake noticed all sorts of exotic fruits surrounding him; blood red berries in the shape of teardrops levitated inches off the ground, while turquoise bubbles floated up from vibrant greenery, collapsing quickly into little orange stones that looked remarkably like candy. Jakeâs belly growled at the idea of tasting these treats, but he dismissed his urges. Stanzas warned that âthose who leave riches unread become starving menâ but Jake knew hunger well. He would jeopardize his mission by eating something that might make him sick tonight.
Instead, he focused on gaining entry to the manor. Searching his surroundings, Jake located the iron front doors about 6 meters to his right. They were guarded by life-like statues on either side, one a Korai of the Poet, hand outstretched in greeting, the other a two headed wolf, with both snarling maws crying out to the moons. The door itself was blacked with age and inscribed by a massive oval spellwork that glinted in the light cast by a hanging lantern.
Listening closely, Jake groaned at the buzz of silverscripting coming from the insignia. Every thief knew that spellworks grew more powerful over time, and anything audible would be too powerful for any Unbound to lockpick.

2023.06.04 08:14 SuspiciousViolinist4 Warning about illegal soundtrack for Tintin cartoon series
(Hi, everyone. Sorry for the inconvenience, but my friend, SCL, tried posting here with his new account, and apparently his account just stopped working. So, I'll paste his entire post here, and hopefully, the message gets through, this time.)
I apologize for how long this is gonna be.
In 2014, French YouTube user CyraxDiffusions uploaded this:
Parker & Szczesniak - The Adventures of TINTIN - Complete Score from the Animated Series It's a five-minute-long compilation of audio clips from what's supposed to be, as said in the title, the full soundtrack of the animated series, supposedly uploaded when the CD wasn't even released yet. Well, if you listen carefully, you can tell that most of the clips heard in the video are
recreations, except for the last two, which were originally on the 1993 soundtrack release!
According to Cyrax, he was contracted or something by the makers of the soundtrack to upload that compilation online. The CD was put up for sale on eBay a few times, and sold. For money. Which is problematic.
Many years later, this "complete soundtrack" found its way to YouTube. It can currently be found here (albeit with two tracks missing):
The Adventures of Tintin (1991) - Ray Parker & Tom Szczesniak (Someone else - I won't say their name - had previously uploaded the soundtrack before it was taken offline months later. I did a bit of research and found out, on this very subreddit, that the video was copyright-claimed by CyraxDiffusions, further implicating the latter.)
It's very clear that this is a scam. 13 of the 23 tracks
are the real thing, as they are the 12 tracks originally found on the 1993 CD, plus the TV version of the theme song (which wasn't on that CD).
The nine other tracks are
all recreations. Some of them actually sound pretty good and close to the originals, while others are off-key, sound way too cheap, etc. You might notice that a
lot of people in the comments (on both videos) don't seem to realize this. Most people don't have enough of a good ear to notice (and might be blinded by nostalgia a tiny bit, and to be fair, who wouldn't be?), but I've spent so many years watching the series, and I swear: I'd recognize the real music tracks anywhere. For comparison's sake,
go to Tintin&SnowyGuy's channel, who's done a great job at extracting instrumental tracks from the episodes themselves! The difference is crystal clear with some tracks, like "Professor Calculus", for example.
I've tried to get answers from CyraxDiffusions, but
all he did was dodge my questions and eventually block me, but not before letting out that the soundtrack was made using a Roland XP-80... which didn't come into existence until 1996, a few years
after the show had first been aired. I've tried to warn people on YouTube about this soundtrack being a scam, but haven't had too much luck in the listening department. (The previous person who uploaded the soundtrack just straight-up blocked me and the person I was chatting with, instead of hearing us out, simply saying "they're the real tracks" and blocking us. The same thing nearly happened with the person behind the current YouTube upload linked above.)
CyraxDiffusions proclaims to be a professional account, but I did some research a few years ago, and found him posting a sexist comment on some random video through that same account, which pretty much confirms he's full of BS. No professional would do that. I can't find the video right now, but
thankfully, I screencapped it, back when I saw it.
CyraxDiffusions also uploaded some other things, including
a compilation of clips from a new soundtrack album for the 1986 film "The Wraith", supposedly with permission from "New Century Studios"... I couldn't find any information about them. What I can confirm is that, while the songs (which were already released before, of course) are definitely the recordings used in the movie, the instrumental tracks are, once again, poor recreations. (Again, for comparison's sake,
here's the REAL instrumental soundtrack, which came out a couple years ago, as a bonus for the movie's Blu-ray.)
Both of these "half-fake" soundtracks were sold online with quite similar descriptions, suggesting that the same person/people is/are behind them.
I took screencaps when I came across them a few years ago. Here's an old forum page on which you can find people talking about CyraxDiffusions apparently selling recreations as real, legit stuff.
So, yeah, bottom line,
this Tintin cartoon soundtrack CD (link to Discogs page, with negative reviews included) with the basic white cover and lack of info on whoever published it (whether or not it is CyraxDiffusions himself)... if you ever come across it online,
DO NOT BUY THAT SOUNDTRACK, ON CD OR NOT. It's undeniably a scam, and whoever made it does not deserve to be given money for it.
Also,
one last screencap, which I feel is very strong evidence against Cyrax.
~ SCL, fan of Tintin since childhood.
