Questions: Differential Mount 06' Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L
2023.06.04 08:10 _kaleb_ Questions: Differential Mount 06' Grand Cherokee Overland 5.7L
So clunk has been a bit ignored and finally decided to tackle it.Wife had taken it into a dealer to get an estimate and have it done when I was laid up after appendix surgery. They took a week and then me showing up and waiting an hour for them to even frantically get that quote together. For a single diff mount, pinion seal and front passenger engine isolator they quoted an obscene $2,075.... Thats not even getting into the fact that they said it was the front-most mount on the front differential when it is 100% the rear-most (common issue from what I've heard on these Jeeps)
I'm off restrictions now, and I'm a cheap ass who can't justify paying that kind of money for a small repair on a $5k rig. I'm no stranger to working on my own vehicle and what I can find seems to be unbolt drive line, remove both tires, undo upper ball joints, undo tie rod ball joints which allows both knuckles to be moved enough to pull CV axles from front diff, and then supporting the diff while undoing the mount bolts you can shimmy it right out.
Now they quoted one mount, but I'm thinking that just replacing all 3 would probably be best since its hard to get to? Or would I be able to skip the front most (905-404) if it looks good because its extremely easy to get to (and expensive lol) and just do the two.
I'm also trying to figure out the right part number for the pinion seal. Mopar lists it as 52111953AC, but I was also seeing through Autozone/Duralast that 710-839 seems to be the same seal and compatible. It just notes "Chrysler C200F or C200FE. 7.875" ring gear". Obviously I'm not a huge jeep enthusiast so I was wondering if anyone knew if that was the right part.
Any advice on pinion seal replacement? Can't find any videos or advice really although other pinion seals looked pretty easy. Everythng given I'm not 100% confident on their claims it had leaked, or if they were doing typical service writer stuff tacking on stuff just in case.

2023.06.04 07:59 Personal_Kangaroo_24 2008 Chevy Equinox Service Stabilitrak & Traction Control & ABS Anti-Lock Light Indicator question
| Recently bought a 2008 Chevy Equinox for dirt cheap from a family member due to all the issues it has. As the car started, the following indication lights stayed on and these messages would cycle on the dash: • ABS LIGHT • ([Brake]) LIGHT • Check Tire Pressure LIGHT (car was neglected for 1+ year(s)) • "Service Stabilitrak" • "Traction Control Off" • "All Wheel Drive Off" While driving the vehicle, these messages kept cycling through at varying speeds. Given all these messages I performed an OBD scan, and received the following report (No codes were reset)***: (Report Dated: May 28) From a bit of research I concluded that the a combination of the following actions could be performed to resolve these issues: • Replace the Steering wheel position/angle sensor. • Followed up by an alignment since the steering wheel is at an angle when driving it straight • Replace the wheel hub and bearing bearing in case the magnetic ring is cracked or broken. • The car makes a growling noise that worsens with an increase in speed. Given the amount of miles the car has, it probably needs a new set of wheel bearings. • Replace the Wheel speed sensor(s) • It's only $12/piece • Fill up the Brake Fluid When we usually have a car problem, I brute force it and replace all the components, but an attempy has been made to narrow the problem down before pulling the trigger and spending money on all these parts. In an attempt to narrow down the problems, I maxed out the brake fluid and checked the speed sensor in question. After disconnecting the speed sensor, a visible inspection of the harness and connector was performed to rule out oxidation or other visible damage. After reconnecting the speed sensor, all of the indication lights ceased to appear. Confused and skeptic to believe that all of these issues were resolved, I performed another OBD Scan and received the following report: (Report Dated: May 29) This was strange as all the indication lights and messages were no longer showing up. Also, bear in mind***, that I did not reset the codes. Shooting-the-shit with a friend, they proposed that I drove the car for a while to see if the codes would disappear (very optimistic approach, I know), or the Indicator lights would reappear. After filling up the tank and driving the vehicle throught varying conditions (25 mph, 35 mph, and 65mph zones) across 40 miles. The "service stabilitrak" light came back on. With the light coming back on, I did another OBD Scan, yet again, here is that latest report: (Report Dated: June 3) Now, I am stumped, what I know for certain is that it needs new wheel bearings because of that growling noise it makes at high speeds, it seems that the steering wheel position sensor needs to be replaced, but now I get a recommendation to replace the EBCM and the wheel speed sensor stop showing up. Any advice on how to move forward? Has anybody experienced or seen this before in a 2005-2009 Chevy Equinox (1st Gen)? If so, what took care of these problems? tl;dr: Bought a 2008 Chevy Equinox for dirt cheap, dash looked like a Christmas tree display, performed OBD to narrow down issue. Christmas display turned off after disconnecting and reconnecting a sensor (no codes were reset). Performed another OBD, different code(s) showed up. Drove car, one light came back. Performed a third OBD scan, 1 code disappeared with a recommended solution from auto repair store. Don't know what to believe. 2023.06.04 07:44 dig_lazarus_dig48 Owner Builder regrets
I ownebuilt my own house over the course of 4 years from 2019-2022. There is still a fair bit of cosmetic and bits and pieces to finish (BIR for one), but the house is livable.
But it's nearly killed me, and it's ruined all sense of accomplishment for me that so many little things are wrong, despite the fact I tried my heart out to do them properly. I (with my wifes help) worked night and day for nearly 4 years between full time work, raising an infant and building a house, doing almost everything but the necessary certified trades.
It's just that now I've lived in it for 12 months, every single thing that I look at needs to be either touched up, added to, or replaced, not because it isn't functional, but because it's beyond patching cosmetically. Just a few examples:
- The sub floor is "bouncy", and the house creaks whenever you walk around in it. There are no moving doors, cracked plaster or sticking windows, nothing so much as a change in the door gaps (I check obsessively), so the house isn't moving or sinking, it just creaks and cracks, even when the wind whistles underneath it you can feel it affect the house. We had it engineered for certain stump, joist and bearer spacing and sizes, and it all meets "code" and has been ticked off, but it still feels wrong now that we are actually living in the house. Also the washing machine shakes the living shit out of the house, which hasn't caused any damage, but you can feel it lying in bed or on the couch at the other side of the house. I don't know if that's an issue with the sub floor or that is just normal. I've had the idea of adding extra bearers to take the "bounce" out, but the point of wide spacing and fewer stumps is because of reactive soil, (so said the engineers)
- the floating flooring has moved and come apart at the joins to the point that it's probably better to rip it out and start again. I have to jump and skid on it to push it back together again, despite clicking them in when I installed them.
- I tried my best to grout and silicone the bathroom tiles but it either looks poorly or isn't sealed right and develops mold, despite using anti mold silicone. I had a professional install the tiles but they were dear, and they did a sub par job (I paid cash, trying to straddle between a budget and a good job, it didn't always work out and I understand that's the gamble you take) and they didn't want to grout so I did it myself, and I'll probably have to scratch it out and do it again seeing as I made a mistake in doing it.
- the weatherboards on the outside aren't done very well, and I'm not happy with how it come up, despite trying my best, and it's not until you are finished and stand back to look that it just looks not quite right. The gap filler I used just shrunk and fell out ( I tried selleys and James hardie) and I'll have to go back over it at some stage.)
- the kitchen needs to be painted, and I need special paint and equipment to finish it off, despite trying to do it properly from the start.
I could write for days about the many "defects" that I see, but I won't drone on about it. It's just little things that I already tried so hard to get right, consult professionals and do research, and still come up short.
My FIL helped me build the house, who is a builder by trade, but due to irreconcilable differences between us, the option to get him to help me to finish, fix or advise us not an option. Not to get too personal, but the whole process of building this house, and being held to ransom by his hypocrisy and nastiness has made me hate the place and relive the anxious times I had to go through to get the place done. He is also the type of old school tradie that will "teach" someone by letting them stuff it up, ridicule them, and shame them into doing it better, or making you anxious for the next part of the project because you can't "unstuff" the part you have don't without costly expense.
I realise that you're not going to get a "magazine house" working as an owner builder, that much of it is having a go, and working out where your limitations are. I just feel stuck because I still need to spend 10's of thousands of dollars to get it to the point where I could sell it and actually see reward for my effort. But then if I did sell it as it is, given the current market, I would really only move sideways to a different, older house, with a possibly larger mortgage and upkeep than what I already have.
I'm not in dire straits, we live comfortably enough, and I know that many people are experiencing insecure housing in this country at the moment, so I don't want to cry poor about it. It's more just the shame and frustration of trying to do something as best as you can, and not necessarily failing, just coming up short, and having to live in the very place that carries so many negative memories. It feels like I've overlooked something major and I'm waiting for it to turn into a huge problem, and I've got nobody to ask if I'm worrying about nothing, but I'm also too scared to ask if it is something major wrong.
Sorry for the ramble, or if I'm coming across wrong, I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the experience in doing this and reaching out hoping that I'm not alone and blowing things out of proportion.

2023.06.04 07:11 PlanXerox A mystery
For 3 years I've been chasing misfire codes in my 2007 Jeep Commander 4.7L v8 2WD. I've replaced the plugs 2x, entire exhaust cats and muffler, 6+ censors, smoke tested pass, fuel pressure tested good, replaced all 8 injectors, all 8 ignition coils, new water pump, new radiator, throttle body cleaning 2x. I haven't done a compression test on cylinders yet. After new repairs I'm able to pass emissions within a few days, then engine lights on again. The code is always a misfire.I have the lifetime powertrain warranty. My next move is the dealer but $$$. Any advice?

2023.06.04 06:11 iank3 Is my car screwed?
I have a 2012 Buick Regal with a 2.4l Ecotec engine. Last year, the check engine light came on and after driving it for some time, I finally took it in to get it checked. Turns out, it was a bad oxygen sensor so I got it replaced. No issues for awhile. Then, a couple months ago, I took it in to get the oil changed. They reported that there was no oil on the dipstick when I brought it in, and they couldn't see a leak. I researched this engine and now see that bad piston rings causing oil to get where it's not supposed to be is a common issue with this engine. Called some local mechanics to see if they would look at it, but they said they don't do that and suggested I take it to a GM dealer, and said they would probably just replace the whole engine. I don't live near a dealer and don't really think it's worth it for how much it would cost. Yesterday the check engine light came on and is now throwing a p0420 code (I guess it's a catalytic converter issue?) I'm thinking the oil burning and getting sent through the cat is messing it up. Is this car screwed? Should I take it in to get looked at or just drive it till it dies? Not really interested in spending much more money on this thing, and it drives fine. Just not sure how serious the issue could be.

2023.06.04 05:23 dandinonillion bald Brynolf (HELP)
I’ve got a few hair and beard mods installed and went into creation kit to edit him to my liking, but after I save my changes and load the game he still looks like this. Any advice? The changes loaded once, and then I went back into CK to remove a moustache from Brand-Shei, and Bryn is back rocking the look of my ex-boyfriend’s dad.

2023.06.04 04:26 Awkward_Wishbone1745 Got Lucky Today
2023.06.04 03:30 PJ-Party-Amazon Deck List!
So I got around to creating a
GB Loam Pox list. I might make a GBR list later on if people are interested. The first thing you're likely to notice is that we're running above 60 cards. This is a deliberate choice, as the statistical different between 60 and up to 65 cards is minimal and once you start dredging it basically doesn't matter.
So I figured that I'd break down the choices in the deck and why I've made them.
The non-lands:
Murderous Ride/Swift End: Versatility is good, and it is resistant to removal. Being able to get rid of planeswalkers is very useful, and having access to a body with Lifelink is quite useful against burn.
Abrupt Decay: The exact number really depends on what the meta might look like. But it hits all permanent types, and the uncounterable is a nice bonus.
Assassin's Trophy: Can hit targets that Decay can't. Between the two cards it gives us the ability to handle problematic things, such as Leyline of the Void.
Sudden Edict: Split second is like uncounterable but even better. This on top of smallpox gives us a really great matchup against Bogles and Infect, virtually turning them into free wins. Also can get indestructible creatures on occasion.
Collective Brutality: A great, versatile card that helps against aggro, control, and combo and, most importantly, burn - which truly is a bad matchup for us. There are very few matchups where at least one mode isn't relevant, and the escalate cost is basically free.
Inquisition of Kozilek: Pretty standard GBx hand disruption. The 4th copy is dropped for a Raven's Crime.
Life from the Loam: The titular card in the deck, makes the engine work.
Raven's Crime: This card is, honestly, really really damn good. We don't really care about discarding it, and it gives us something to dump mana into provided we have extra lands. Will singlehandedly win you games against Control and Combo as they simply can't deal with it.
Smallpox: The other titular card of the deck, early game it causes massive tempo swings and severely punishes your opponent if they kept a sketchy one or two land hand.
Thoughtseize: More standard hand disruption. Like IoK, the 4th copy is dropped for a Raven's Crime
Worm Harvest: Primary win condition, considering how much we're dredging and how many lands we're dumping into the yard the game generally won't last much past the point when you start casting this.
Liliana of the Veil: I know that I have previous expressed dislike for Planeswalkers in this deck, but that mainly applies to Wrenn and Six. LotV is mainly here for a nice combo package of more discard and removal, with the ult being nice icing on the cake but not at all necessary. Doesn't matter if she dies, so a great way to bait your opponent and buy yourself more time to win.
The Lands:
Barren Moor: This card isn't
really in the deck as a land. It's a recurable instant speed cantrip, that is great for digging through your deck faster or to save Loam from getting hit with Surgical.
Blooming Marsh: One of the best parts of running two colours instead of three is getting access to this land. We curve out at 3, for the most part, so it entering tapped as our 4th land probably won't matter.
Boseiju, Who Endures: A very solid card, although I initially misread it and thought it only let them get basics. Not quite as good since it lets them grab duals or triomes, but it's a reuable source of removal which is great.
Dakmor Salvage: Great backup dredge source if you do lose access to Loam. I've found having access to one is just...nice.
Forest: Gotta be basic!
Ghost Quarter: Could probably be a two-of, but I like having access to at least one.
Hissing Quagmire: I don't like lands that enter tapped due to have crucial early game speed is for us, but having a deathtouch blocker that we can get back is useful.
Hive of the Eye Tyrant: I had literally no idea that this card existed until I was putting this deck together, and I gotta say that I really like it. The graveyard hate is very slow but potentially useful, but having access to a manland that doesn't slow down the early game is really good.
Lair of the Hydra: Same as the previous card; manlands that don't slow us down are great. And it's an excellent mana sink that could potentially end up being a really thicc boy.
Overgrown Tomb: Gotta have those duals!
Prismatic Vista: Not necessarily vital in a two color deck, but it helps to smooth out our colors in the early game and I've found that any variant of Loam wants to have 7 to 9 fetches.
Swamp: Gotta be basic!!
Tranquil Thicket: More cycling lands!
Twilight Mire: really good mana fixing, can let you do a green source turn one into a turn 2 smallpox.
Verdant Catacombs: Gotta get that mana fixing
Sideboard:
Endurance: Protects our graveyard and gives us an option against theirs.
Golgari Brownscale: reusable lifegain against burn
Darkblast: Not useful against every deck, but when this card is good it's win-you-the-game-good
Veil of Summer: One of the most overpowered cards WotC has printed recently. As a blue player I absolute fcking hate this card. But jeez is it REAL nice to have access to! Really helpful for Pact of Negation, which we don't want exiling our Loams.
Maelstrom Pulse: Good against tokens. Could easily be replaced with something else.
Raven's Crime: Third copy to guarantee we hit it against the matchups where it can win us the game.
Syphon Life: really useful against burn, if to buy time than nothing else.
Boseiju, Who Endures: One extra copy for any matchups that might hinge on it, altho I'm honestly not sure what those might be.
Ghost Quarter: 2 more of these because I ABSOLUTELY HATE TRON. Literally no other reason.

2023.06.04 03:04 mustardponid Is a 2008 Lexus GS 350 with 109k miles a good idea?
I want a car to replace my Mini, which had 106k miles. I just wanted something that luxurious without all the headaches. I'm looking at a 2009 ES 350 later this week woth 57k miles for $14k, and a GS 350 with 109k miles for $13k. I looked at a GS 350 with 99,890 miles on it and I really liked the car. It was way over priced though. They were asking for $14,500 with 2 moderate accidents on the Carfax. The rearview mirror was faded and impossible to see clearly out of, the brakes were spongey, all 4 tires were cracked all around the sidewall or dry rotted, and it was also clearly RWD but they kept insisting it was FWD (which is impossible the way the engine is mounted). I told them I'd do no more than 11k on the car and they just told me to come back when I'm serious about buying, so I left and have no reason to return. My thing is though, I really liked the GS and would much rather have that over an ES considering it was a lot more enjoyable to drive. But I want a second opinion if it's just best to suck it up and get the ES 350 with the really low miles or if a ~100k GS 350 is a good deal at that price.
Basically, the 2009 Lexus ES 350 is $14k with 57k miles 2 owners no accidents. I'm going to look at another GS 350 that's a 2008 with AWD and 109k miles for $13k. Main question would be is it stupid to get the GS 350 with that many more miles?
The 2007 RWD GS 350 with 99k miles is also out of the question unless if that dealer wants to fix the car up and not sell me an overpriced shit box.

2023.06.04 03:02 Form-Early Bialetti Moka Express vs Imusa Moka Pot - Is It Worth Spending The Extra Money?
| I have been brewing coffee for the past month using a Bialetti Moka Express and an Imusa 1 cup moka pot. This is my comparison and review of the two pots on the differences in construction, how they perform, and whether I think the price difference is worth it. Price The Bialetti cost $29.30, and for nearly 1/3 of the price, $9.99 for the Imusa. Construction Overall, the Bialetti is substantially heavier, and the finish is more polished. The Imusa has a narrower appearance but is shorter. The Bialetti has 8 sides (octagon), while the Imusa has 10 (decagon). Water Chamber The Bialetti's water chamber weighs 260g without the filter, about 75% heavier than the Imusa (148g). The base has a diameter of 64mm. The base is polished and flat. Most of the water chamber interior is machined to a smooth polish. The interior floor of the chamber has machined steps and there is a machined edge in the upper third of the chamber that acts as a reference for the water fill line. The safety valve appears to be made out of stainless and is larger than the Imusa's. The safety valve can also be manually opened from the outside in case it becomes stuck. The Imusa's water chamber interior is unfinished. There is a spiral textured finish on the base as well as on the interior floor of the chamber. The safety valve on the Imusa seems like it is made of brass and the valve is smaller than the Bialetti's. Filter Basket Overall the Bialetti filter basket seems to be of higher quality from the polished finish and the pressed areas that firmly hold the filter plate in place. The filter plate has "MADE IN ITALY" stamped on it, in case anyone needed a reminder of where their moka pot was made. The Imusa's filter basket has a dull finish and some of the pressed areas that hold the filter plate aren't uniform and do not seem as secure. The filter baskets from both brands are close in dimensions, but they aren't interchangeable. Even though both have the same diameter at the flare, the diameter of the basket itself is different, and so are the flare profiles. If one had no other choice, the Imusa filter basket could be used in the Bialetti, but there could be issues with forming a tight seal with the gasket. The Bialetti filter basket is too large and won't fit in the Imusa chamber. Gasket and Top Filter Plate The Bialetti's top filter plate has finer holes than the Imusa, is slightly concave, and is stamped with "MADE IN ITALY". The Bialetti gasket material is rubber, while the Imusa uses a silicone gasket. Both filter plates have the same filter diameter of 40mm. The Top Chamber Starting with the external appearance, once again Bialetti shows signs of higher build quality. The Bialetti logo and model name is clearly printed in black. The Imusa has a duller finish with just the "Imusa" brand laser etched underneath the spout. Both pots have thermoplastic handles. The Imusa's handle has a basic design, while the Bialetti's handle is more stylish. On my Imusa pot, the pin holding the handle and the lid in place protrudes on one side, while the Bialetti fits flush on both sides. The interior of the top chamber on the Bialetti is more polished, but the chimney outlet has jagged edges as if someone forgot to perform the finishing touches during production. In contrast, the Imusa's chimney outlet is smooth. The lid is nothing special on either pot, but on the Bialetti, the screw that secures the knob in place is countersunk and sits flush, while on the Imusa, the screw seems out of place. Lastly, the pour spout on the Bialetti is narrower than the Imusa. The Bialetti tends to pour more cleanly than the Imusa. Performance To test the performance of both pots, I will be using an electric range, room temperature water, and 6 grams of medium ground coffee. Both of the pots will be placed on the same burner at the same time. I will record the time it takes for the first signs of percolation and the final gurgling stages. Finally, I will record how much coffee each pot yields. When filling the water chamber, the Bialetti is easier to fill since I can use either the bottom of the safety valve or the fill line as a reference. With the Imusa, I only have the valve as a reference and so I have to position the water chamber so that I can see the back of the valve during filling. The Bialetti's water chamber takes 64g of water to fill and the Imusa takes 76g. Very interesting that the Imusa uses more water. With heat set at medium, the Bialetti shows the first signs of percolation at 3:25 and the final gurgling stage occurs at 4:35. For the Imusa, percolation starts at 6:01 and the gurgling stage happens at 6:23. It takes the Imusa almost twice as long to show signs of percolation. When it does occur, it happens very fast, and I have to keep my eye on it. With the Bialetti, there's a more steady flow of coffee and it takes a little bit longer to reach the gurgling stage after coffee first streams out of the chimney. The way each pot reaches the final gurgling stage is different. With the Imusa, the gurgling stage happens very quickly after the first signs of percolation. If left on the heat, the pot will violently spew out steam and water. I found it best to either lower the heat or remove it from the heat entirely once the top chamber is around half full. The pot will continue to percolate from residual heat. Now for the Bialetti, towards the end of the brewing process, the pot will reach a soft gurgling stage, subside, percolate a little bit more, and then it will reach its final gurgling event, but it is nowhere near as violent as the Imusa. I believe it has something to do with the different steps machined on the floor of the Bialetti pot. I go into further detail about this in a previous post. The Bialetti yields around 46g of coffee and the Imusa at 45g. Pretty much the same. Looking at the water chamber post-brew, the Imusa has more residual water than the Bialetti. So how does the brew taste? Surprisingly, they taste the same despite the discernable performance differences. So is it worth it? Honestly, it all depends! Do you just want a good cup of coffee without breaking the bank? The Imusa Moka Pot is for you! It requires some extra heat monitoring, but only at the end of the brew. If going with the Imusa, I would suggest recording the time it takes to reach the first signs of percolation on your burner so that you can just set a timer and do other things while it builds pressure. If you want a beautiful piece of coffee-brewing kitchenware that is well-engineered, and not have to monitor the brewing process as much, go with the Bialetti. After much experimentation, with the right heat settings, I just set the pot on the stove, listen for the final gurgling stages and I have my coffee. Replacement parts are also readily available so this is something that will last a long time and can be passed on to loved ones. | Bialetti Moka Express (1 cup) | Imusa Moka Pot (1 cup) | First Signs of Percolation | 03:25 | 06:01 | Final Gurgling Stage | 04:35 | 06:23 | Coffee Yield | 46g | 45g | Specs: | Bialetti Moka Express (1 cup) | Imusa Moka Pot (1 cup) | Price | $29.30 | $9.99 | Weight of Entire Pot | 260g | 148g | Weight of Water Chamber (without funnel) | 115g | 63g | Water Chamber Base Diameter | 64mm | 62mm | Water Chamber Capacity | 62g | 76g | Filter Basket Height | 46mm | 45mm | Filter Basket Funnel Diameter | 11.5mm | 11mm | Filter Basket Diameter | 43mm | 42mm | Filter Basket Diameter @ Flare | 46mm | 46mm | Filter Plate Diameter | 40mm | 40mm | Spiral texture on the floor of the Imusa pot. Price range: $20k is the edge of actually affordable, <$15k would be much smarter and more comfortable. $30k max if I'm being as reckless with financing as most Americans these days.
Lease or Buy: Buy
New or used: Budget says used, but not 100% opposed to new with the state of the used market.
Type of vehicle: SUV preferred, open to small truck or crossovewagon.
Must haves: - 4WD w/ 4LO (or very robust AWD), 8in+ ground clearance, decent approach/breakovedeparture angles, full-size spare
- reasonable maneuverability (not super wide, decent turning radius).
- reasonable long-haul highway comfort/manners (cruise control, no death wobble or excessive wandering)
- room for 4 adults and their gear, good cargo space for extended camping, room to sleep in total area behind front seats
- buttons (not touchscreen) for key functions (climate, radio, lights, vehicle modes) full-size spare,
- acceptable fuel mileage (min 18mpg highway)
- decent visibility (no major blindspots, stupid big flat hood, tiny rear windshield, etc)
Desired transmission: Automatic preferred, manual not a total dealbreaker
Intended use: 50% of anticipated miles will be adventure trips w/ a partner or friends (ie 90% highway, 10% remote offroad). NOT intended for deliberate rock-crawling or hardcore wheeling, overlanding, etc.
Other 50% will be occasional grocery-getting, poor-weather commuting, and cross-town errands and socializing in a highway-heavy city with clogged arteries and narrow neighborhood roads.
At home, I want it to have good utility for giving friends rides, schlepping furniture and bikes, and being a reliable source of mobility in crises.
I DON'T need a typical commuter, and willing to accept compromises in efficiency as result. My "daily driver" is my bicycle, including for most local errands. Expecting 5-10k mi/year, majority highway.
Is this your 1st vehicle: Yes (but as a someone who has been driving for 15 years)
Can you do Minor work on your own vehicle: Fluids, pads, sparkplugs, pads, bulbs: yes. Intend to do more, so important for this work to be somewhat cheap/easy in a driveway context.
Can you do Major work on your own vehicle: Likely not anytime soon. Important for these systems to be dependable and not crazy expensive to have work done on.
Additional Notes: - Safety is important (people drive insane everywhere these days but especially my area, also many deehogs on expected trips).
- Real off-road capabilities needed for responsible, self-reliant travel in remote areas, but not in a recreational enthusiast way. Don't intend to make wheeling/overlanding a hobby or expect to have similarly-equipped friends to bail me out in these situations. Terrain including but limited to sandy arroyos, steep loose-rock. I don't want to be in a vehicle punching above its weight, I want to be in one that's in its element.
- Major weather events that I'd like the vehicle to handle reasonably well include: downpours on oil-slicked roads, and occasional ice and snow storms (generally with no plowing, salting, or sanding). I realize this points more to AWD and good tires for close-to-home usage.
- Renting a true 4WD vehicle only when I need it: No, in those situations I want it to be my vehicle that I know, trust, and am personally responsible for, and I don't want to deal with the additional logistics of renting.
Vehicles you've already considered: Initial bumpers: nothing larger than a 4-door short-bed Tacoma/Frontier, nothing smalleless capable than a Crosstrek.
Most likely contenders so far:
- Lexus GX 470
- + Full-time 4WD with Torsen seems like best of both worlds of 4WD/AWD for all of my adverse-condition capability desires
- + Probably the best-driving of the "trucks"
- + (y'all know the rest, I won't go too deep)
- - difficulty in finding affordable one in good shape
- - Efficiency of FT 4WD w/ v8
- - Honestly too fancy, I dislike most luxury trappings
- Toyota 4Runner (3rd-5th Gen)
- + 4Runner shit
- + Full-time 4WD found on a few select trims too (but probably too competitive of a market for me to seek them out)
- + Efficiency of V6 a bit better (don't think I need more really)
- - pretty rough around the edges for the price, not impressed with brakes in particular
- - Market is crazy, hard to justify vs value proposition of the GX
- - 5th Gen feels too big (esp wide)
- Subaru Outback (2010s+)
- + Perennial do-it-all underdog.
- + 5-10mpg better than the "trucks"
- - Worried that it just won't cut it for expected offroad (AWD losing power to wheelspin and low articulation, CVT issues), and the most capable versions (XTs, Wilderness) compromise efficiency, affordability, and repair costs/ease to the point of having no real advantage vs anything beefier.
- - Low ride-height not an asset on truck-filled Texas roads
- - "Car" advantages pretty minimal, feels closer to a unibody SUV.
- - Not super impressed by real-world reliability and cost/ease of repair of 2010s models
The Maybes:
- Nissan Xterra (2nd Gen)
- + More affordable version of GX/4R
- - ...but at a commensurate loss in reliability and comforts (especially vs GX). Out of production, and well-cared-for survivors seem rare.
- Toyota Tacoma (4-door, short bed)
- + It's a Taco
- - I can't really justify a truck bed (I know, I know, that hasn't stopped 95% of Tacoma owners before me), and would need a Softopper or camper shell to keep gear safe, and maybe also an extender to sleep inside a 4-door version.
- - A bit longer than I want for trails and parking lots
- Nissan Frontier
The Close-But-Probably-Nots:
- Toyota FJ Cruiser
- - trash visibility
- - Big exterior, small interior
- - Cult Following and Toyota Tax
- Other Subarus (Forester, Crosstek)
- + Better visibility/ride height (Forester)
- + Better maneuverability, angles (Forester, esp Crosstek)
- - Less cargo space (esp Crosstek)
- - Less powecapability
- - No real additional value proposition over Outback
- Jeeps (Wrangler Unlimited, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee)
- + Most efficient smaller 4WDs
- + Ease of maintenance
- - Reliability below my acceptable threshold for remote and solo
- - Wrangler too off-road focused for 1000mi+ roadtrips.
- Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, etc
- See Forester
- - below off-road capability threshold.
- Old stuff
- It seems like they stopped making what I really want in the mid-2000s. ~'95-'05 Cherokee XJ/ZJ, Pathfinder, Rodeo, Trooper, Montero, Sidekick, Tracker, etc. The few that are left often fit the budget, but with serious concerns about reliability, safety, and remaining life. Ultimately, I don't think I'd trust one of these long-distance or in the backcountry unless it was a really prime specimen (which is rare/expensive).
TL;DR: Please confirm that a 4Runner or GX is the only thing that really makes sense, than an Outback won't cut it, that I did good research, and that I look good in this dress. (Or please point out if I'm off-base or missing something) Thanks!

2023.06.03 23:55 6ZeZQU5KazsyVwR Keep paid off 2019 Jeep Wrangler or trade-in for a 2023 Toyota Corolla
Good afternoon everyone,
I currently own a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Sport that has only 25,000km. I paid $42,000 cash (including taxes) for the car last year. I went to a Toyota dealership today and was told that they would offer me $32,000 (including taxes) if I was to trade it in for a 2023 Toyota Corolla SE+. Do you guys think it would be better to keep the Jeep since it’s paid off or trade it-in for the Toyota and lose the 10k difference?
Other information : I only go to the office twice a week but it still cost me over $100/week in gas with the Jeep. I’m a bit worried about Jeep’s reputation as for reliability. I’m not a big car guy and I bought the Jeep mostly because my friends and relatives also bought Jeeps at the same time.
Thank you and have a nice weekend!
Edit: The 2023 Toyota Corolla SE+ cost 33k (including taxes). Thank you everyone for your input! It’s much appreciated!

2023.06.03 23:36 Blade_Dragonfire 2009 Outback with flat 6/5EAT. Picked car up after P1710 trans fix, got less than 10 miles and got P0705 trans code. Shop claims coincidence, I think it's related to the work they did?
Vehicle: 2009 Subaru Outback 3.0R Limited
Engine: EZ30 flat 6
Transmission: 5EAT
Bit long, but has background info, sorry in advance!
As noted in the title, I had a P1710 Torque converter turbine 2 speed signal code. It was drive-able, but would occasionally slam N->D and going into 3rd gear. Common fix online is to drop the valve body, and wire in a new hall effect sensor (the part that fails), instead of replacing the entire valve body + harness (sensor is attached to top side of valve body). Most shops I called wanted to do a full transmission replacement, but the Subaru shop I go to said they've worked on many of these and they replace and wire in a new sensor, instead of replacing the entire valve body. Cost given was ~$700, vs $2000+ for full valve body replacement, so I agreed.
Dropped the car off Wednesday, got a call it was done Thursday morning, I couldn't pick it up til Friday. Pick it up early Friday afternoon, drives great. Fill it up with gas and wash it since it's been sitting for a few weeks since I wasn't driving it while waiting for shop to take it. Did some light driving + some full throttle on ramp merges, all is well.
Until I get off the highway. Boom, car drops out of gear, into what felt like 3rd, all sorts of dash lights. Almost no acceleration, pretty sure it's locked in 3rd gear. Limp it home a few blocks so I'm home in case I need a tow. Call shop, speak to tech that worked on my car. He asks what code, I tell him P0705 - AT range switch circuit malfunction, and the car does not say what gear it is in, and all the dash lights that are lit. He says to clear the code with my code reader, which I do, and now it won't even start. Dead, nothing. Had to get it towed back to their shop. Note: I drove it something like ~10 miles from the shop to home.
Tech on the phone says he didn't touch that sensor, and it's external to this year transmission. He claims it's a coincidence and that the P1710 code was masking the P0705 code, but I read the codes with BtSSM, and also, it actually drove before dropping it off, which it currently does not. Additionally, a quick google shows multiple people saying the AT range switch is part of the valve body and harness, and I confirmed this by reading the FSM:
"Inhibitor switch cannot be checked, because the inhibitor switch is installed on control valve assembly. When a malfunction occurs, refer to 5AT (diag) section. "
Personally, this seems more than likely related to the work done since they dropped the valve body, and were messing around with the trans harness, and I hate to pull the "you were the last ones to touch it" card, they were the last ones to touch it, and I got less than 10 miles from the shop before I broke down.
I hate being demanding, but is it ok to ask the shop to "make this right" so to speak? I didn't even make it home from the shop before breaking down. Am I wrong here?

2023.06.03 22:23 Cheap_Thought4473 VVT solenoid 2009 Ford edge replacement
Looking for advice on approximately how much it would cost to replace the VVT solenoid in bank one and bank two for 2009 Ford edge. Got a quote of $1300 from an independent garage no Ford dealers close by. The engine code only said bank one but maybe he figures you have to do both? I don't know. $240 in parts $90 for oil change and $70 for seals. $875 labor

2023.06.03 21:45 courtanee Hybrid or no hybrid
I'm looking for a mom car for myself. I've settled on a Ford escape 2008-2012 years. I currently drive a C4 Corvette (which I'm keeping), and get 19mpg. Im unsure if I should get a hybrid or standard. I have had a hybrid before and do really like them. But the vehicle I had didn't have a costly hybrid battery ($350-500). Costs to replace the hybrid battery on the Ford escape are around 2,500-3,500$. I drive mostly highways 20-30 miles a day. I'm looking to just run this car as far as it'll go until it really dies, I just don't know which to choose. Standards get around 23mpg, hybrids around 31-33mpg (depending on what kind of driving of course). I also live in the Midwest where it frequently gets in the negatives. What's the right move for me?

2023.06.03 21:27 Own_Organization_201 CEL/Evap leak on Honda Odyssey 2000.. advice/next steps?
We recently had a power steering hose leak, but replaced it at home. CEL stayed on. When we went to get a transmission flush the technician said we had a leak in the transmision and somewhere else(? i think he said near the engine). He advised us to check our fluids every 15k miles, and Auto zone checked and said we have a EVAP leak.
CEL has been on for roughly 4 months and I'm sick of it, but I'm broke, I only have $1k in savings. How much money should I save for the worst case scenario cost to fix this?

2023.06.03 20:30 RohitAkki AI Weekly Rundown (May 27 to June 2)
This week was packed with small but impactful AI developments.
- NVIDIA uses AI to bring NPCs to life- NVIDIA has announced the NVIDIA Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) for Games. This cloud-based service provides developers access to various AI models, including natural language processing (NLP) models, facial animation models, and motion capture models.- ACE for Games can create NPCs that can have intelligent, unscripted, and dynamic conversations with players, express emotions, and realistically react to their surroundings.- It can help developers in many ways:
- To create more realistic and believable NPCs with more natural and engaging conversations with players.
- To save time and money by providing them access to various AI models.
- BiomedGPT: The most sophisticated AI medical model?- BiomedGPT is a unified and generalist Biomedical Generative Pre-trained Transformer model.- BiomedGPT utilizes self-supervision on diverse datasets to handle multi-modal inputs and perform various downstream tasks.- Extensive experiments show that BiomedGPT surpasses most previous state-of-the-art models in performance across 5 distinct tasks with 20 public datasets spanning over 15 biomedical modalities.- The study also demonstrates the effectiveness of the multi-modal and multi-task pretraining approach in transferring knowledge to previously unseen data.
- Break-A-Scene: AI breaks down single image into multiple concepts- If given a photo of a ceramic artwork depicting a creature seated on a bowl, humans can effortlessly imagine the same creature in various poses and locations or envision the same bowl in a new setting. However, today's generative models struggle to do this type of task.- This research from Google (and others) introduces a new approach to textual scene decomposition. Given a single image of a scene that may contain multiple concepts of different kinds, it extracts a dedicated text token for each concept (handles) and enables fine-grained control over the generated scenes. The approach uses textual prompts in natural language for creating novel images featuring individual concepts or combinations of multiple concepts.
- Roop: 1 click AI face swap software with no dataset & trainingRoop is a 1 click, deepfake face-swapping software. It allows you to replace the face in a video with the face of your choice. You only need one image of the desired face and that’s it- no dataset or training is needed. In the future, they are aiming to:- Improve the quality of faces in results- Replace a selective face throughout the video- Support for replacing multiple faces
- Voyager: First LLM lifelong learning agent that can continuously explore worlds- Voyager is the first LLM-powered lifelong learning agent in Minecraft that uses advanced learning techniques to explore, learn skills, and make discoveries without human input. It consists of 3 key components:
- Automatic curriculum for exploration.
- Ever-growing skill library of executable code for storing and retrieving complex behaviors.
- Iterative prompting mechanism for incorporating environment feedback, execution errors, & program improvement.- Voyager interacts with GPT-4 through blackbox queries, bypassing the need for fine-tuning. It demonstrates strong lifelong learning abilities and performs exceptionally well in Minecraft.- Voyager rapidly becomes a seasoned explorer. In Minecraft, it obtains 3.3× more unique items, travels 2.3× longer distances, and unlocks key tech tree milestones up to 15.3× faster than prior methods & they have open-sourced everything!
- LaVIN, for cheap and quick vision-language adaptation in LLMs- New research from Xiamen University has proposed a novel and cost-effective for adapting LLMs to vision-language (VL) instruction tuning called Mixture-of-Modality Adaptation (MMA).- MMA uses lightweight adapters, allowing joint optimization of an entire multimodal LLM with a small number of parameters. This saves more than thousand times of storage overhead compared with existing solutions. It can also obtain a quick shift between text-only and image-text instructions to preserve the NLP capability of LLMs.- Based on MMA, a large vision-language instructed model called LaVIN was developed, enabling cheap and quick adaptations on VL tasks without requiring another large-scale pre-training. On conducting experiments on ScienceQA, LaVIN showed on-par performance with the advanced multimodal LLMs, with training time reduced by up to 71.4% and storage costs by 99.9%.
- Top AI scientists and experts sign statement urging safe AI- In a bid to facilitate open discussions about the severe risks posed by advanced artificial intelligence (AI), a concise statement has been released, urging the global community to prioritize mitigating the risk of AI-induced extinction.- The statement highlights the importance of addressing this issue on par with other societal-scale risks like pandemics and nuclear war. The call has garnered support from a growing number of AI scientists and notable figures from various fields, including Sam Altman CEO-OpenAI, Dario Amodei CEO-Anthropic, Demis Hassabis CEO-Google DeepMind, and many more.
- Falcon topples LLaMA: Top open-source LM- Falcon 40B, UAE’s leading large-scale open-source AI model from Technology Innovation Institute (TII), is now royalty-free for commercial and research use. Previously, it was released under a license requiring commercial royalty payments of 10%.- The model has been updated to Apache 2.0 software license, under which end-users have access to any patent covered by the software in question. TII has also provided access to the model’s weights to allow researchers and developers to use it to bring their innovative ideas to life.- Ranked #1 globally on Hugging Face’s Open LLM leaderboard, Falcon 40B outperforms competitors like Meta’s LLaMA, Stability AI’s StableLM, and RedPajama from Together.
- Open AI’s latest idea can help models do math with 78% accuracy- Even SoTA models today are prone to hallucinations, which can be particularly problematic in domains that require multi-step reasoning. To train more reliable models, OpenAI trained a model by rewarding each correct step of reasoning (“process supervision”) instead of simply rewarding the correct final answer (“outcome supervision”).- It was found that process supervision significantly outperforms outcome supervision for training models to solve problems from challenging MATH datasets. The model in the experiment solved 78% of problems from a representative subset of the MATH test set.- Additionally, process supervision also has an important alignment benefit: it directly trains the model to produce a chain-of-thought that is endorsed by humans.
- Neuralangelo, NVIDIA’s new AI model, turns 2D video into 3D structures- NVIDIA Research has introduced a new AI model for 3D reconstruction called Neuralangelo. It uses neural networks to turn 2D video clips from any device– cell phone to drone capture– into detailed 3D structures, generating lifelike virtual replicas of buildings, sculptures, and other real-world objects.- Neuralangelo’s ability to translate the textures of complex materials — including roof shingles, panes of glass, and smooth marble — from 2D videos to 3D assets significantly surpasses prior methods. The high fidelity makes its 3D reconstructions easier for developers and creative professionals to rapidly create usable virtual objects for their projects using footage captured by smartphones.
- Google’s retrieval-augmented model addresses the challenge of pre-training- Large-scale models like T5, GPT-3, PaLM, Flamingo, and PaLI have shown impressive knowledge storage abilities but require massive amounts of data and computational resources. Retrieval-augmented models in natural language processing (RETRO, REALM) and computer vision (KAT) aim to overcome these challenges by leveraging retrieval techniques. And researchers have attempted to address these challenges using retrieval-augmented models.- This model, “REVEAL: Retrieval-Augmented Visual-Language Pre-Training with Multi-Source Multimodal Knowledge Memory,” can provide up-to-date information and improve efficiency by retrieving relevant information instead of relying solely on pre-training.- It learns to utilize a multi-source multi-modal “memory” to answer knowledge-intensive queries & allows the model parameters to focus on reasoning about the query rather than being dedicated to memorization.
- And there was more…. - JPMorgan developing a ChatGPT-like service to provide investment advice to customers - AI to help scientists predict whether breast cancer spread risk - IBM consulting launches generative AI center of excellence - PandaGPT: The all-in-one model for instruction-following - NVIDIA, MediaTek team up to bring AI-powered infotainment to cars - American Express will experiment cautiously with generative AI for fintech - BMW has begun experimenting with AI in designing - ChatGPT iOS app has been made accessible in 152 countries worldwide. - Vectara ensures the absence of hallucinations in Generative AI. - UAE rolls out AI chatbot 'U-Ask' in Arabic & English - Amazon trains AI to weed out damaged goods - Snapchat launches new generative AI feature, ‘My AI Snaps’ - Instacart launches in-app AI search tool powered by ChatGPT - SnapFusion enables a text-to-image diffusion model on mobile devices within 2 secs. - Accenture strengthens AI and ML Engineering through Nextira acquisition - Alibaba reveals its first LLM just like ChatGPT

2023.06.03 20:28 Tight-Razzmatazz1445 EV Conversion (please don’t kill me)
Howdy! I’ve had an old civic for about two years now, good for getting from place to place but due to some teenage stupidity and a failing change oil sensor I had to swap the engine in January, pretty costly. So that got me thinking, could I just take off the piston head and replace it with a brushless dc high speed motor and hook that up to a rechargeable lithium ion battery (probably from a Tesla) then I would I have a working EV with highway speeds? My thinking is I still have my power steering belt and AC compression fully functional, and as long as I could keep the original car battery going (probably with some kind of power conversion replacing the alternator???) I would have a working transmission still feeding into the lower half (sorry for the lack of technical terms) and so long as I could turn the battery off and on it would work, hypothetically. What problems do you foresee in this idea? Also I understand many people are against EV’s and all that but I’m not here to talk about that I’m here to talk about the probability of a simple EV conversion. Thanks for the input and help. Respectfully, Van Hartman

2023.06.03 19:36 DanielKotes Starting seablock: pack vs barebones
So - you finally decided to start a seablock run after playing around in vanilla factorio (or maybe some space exploration / K2 / AE / etc). You load up a new install of factorio, search the mod listing for seablock... and find 2 options:
seablock, and
seablock pack. Perhaps going by the latest update (seablock), or by just the name, you decide to select seablock - start the game... and its not quite the same as you expect (or perhaps you post some screenshots of your starter base online and notice all the comments of 'you got the wrong modpack!'). So let me clarify for you!
Seablock & Seablock pack:
Seablock (as a mod) is a barebones mod that includes all the changes necessary to play seablock. It adds the extra recipes / items, along with checking which mods you have installed and updating their settings for a proper seablock experience. It does not however require all the mods you need for a full seablock experience.
Seablock pack (as a mod) is an empty mod that only contains dependencies to all the required mods you want to use to play seablock. Basically, if you start a vanilla factorio install and select 'seablock pack' as a mod to install, it will install all the necessary mods for a seablock run (yes - including the 'seablock' mod!)
Which of the two to use? I would highly recommend you install the '
seablock pack' which will install and enable all the necessary mods for a proper seablock experience. After doing that and ensuring the 'seablock pack' is enabled (not red) you can then disable any of the included mods you dont wish to play with (ex: helmod if you prefer factory planner, explosive excavation if you prefer waterfill). This will disable the 'seablock pack' (marking it red), but that doesnt matter at this point!
What you miss by running barebones (not using seablock pack):
- All of bob's mods
- no multi-tiers for power poles, steam engines, nuclear, solar, furnaces, T4-6 assembly machines, warfare (power armor), beacons, and many more.
- electric assemblers (2x2 assemblers specifically for circuit parts)
- bob's aliens (higher tier worms & return of alien artifacts)
- fluid burning boilers / heat sources (no bean power for you!)
- circuit processing
- additional steps for making circuits
- revamp of the entire module production chain that makes things much more complicated for the authentic seablock experience
- ks power
- this is your windmill mod!
- if you start the game with solar panels & accumulators, its because this mod isnt enabled. This is a good hint that you havent installed the full seablock modpack, and the reason why screenshots of starter bases with solar panels instead of windmills have comments of 'install full seablock pack!!!!'
- landfill painting / waterfill
- set the type of ground used for landfill (unless you like the dirt-brown look of vanilla landfill) and the ability to place water
- can also create other types of landfill (in case you want to use more than 1) along with an option to 'rotate' between different types.
- reskin mods
- Recolors the various buildings based on tiers (grey/yellow/red/blue/purple/green) instead of having all buildings look the same
- Adds higher resolution graphics
- Changes item graphics to be 'better' and not look as dated
- The other reason your screenshots might get the 'install full seablock pack!!!' comments
- sci cost tweaker
- Switches out the science pack recipes from vanilla to more complicated 'full seablock experience' versions
- Very important!
- Space mod
- Adds an endgame past launching a rocket
- Instead of the game ending after you launch the rocket you now have to research and assemble a spaceship to take you away (win the game)
- Involves hundreds of rocket launches for the space science, along with FTL research (over 1m science packs total required!) which necessitates you to transition to a megabase design to fully complete the game.
Which mods can I remove from the seablock pack and still get the full experience?
- Angels addons storage
- Adds warehouses & high capacity tanks - you can play without them (or install a different warehouse style mod), but I would recommend leaving it
- Bob's (adjustable) inserters
- Allows you to set the pickup/dropoff positions of inserters (aka: you can now have 90* inserters!).
- Very helpful for direct insertion designs, though not strictly necessary for a 'full' seablock experience.
- Give them a try if you never played with them, and if they arent your cup of tea then sure - remove them.
- Bob's Warfare
- Adds higher tier armor, sniper rifles, etc. Really the only major change removing this will have on your game is that instead of a regular radar for your space science you will need to make T5 radars which require like 20+ ingredients (total).
- Used to be that this mod also added a bunch of (unnecessary) war research & sci packs that just bloated the item screen, but that has been removed so there really isnt a good reason to remove this mod
- Bob's Mining
- Only adds research for faster deconstruction (steel axe research). Can be removed if you dont mind longer times for hand-deconstruction.
- Explosive excavation
- Adds ability to place water tiles by 'blasting' (requires chem-science with explosives)
- Can be removed & replaced with waterfill or similar if you want easier water placement, or have a preference for a different water placement mod.
- KS Power
- Ok, fine - if you want you can remove this mod and start with solar panels & accumulators. Not really going to loose much in terms of 'authentic seablock experience', but be ready for the 'you arent using the full seablock pack! Install from -here-!' comments for any screenshot of your starter base.
- Landfill painting
- Its nice to have, but if you are ok with the 'default' landfill texture you can just disable this mod.
- Space Expansion mod
- If you want a shorter game or are simply not interested in megabase content you can remove this mod, changing the 'win' condition from launching hundreds of rockets / finishing 1m research (for FTL) / building the spaceship to simply 'research and launch 1 rocket' as in vanilla.
- Should decrease the overall playtime from 500+h for a first run to maybe the range of 300h as you still need to figure out all the various tech and reach the endgame, but arent required to build a megabase, struggle with UPS, etc.
- FNEI
- The 'what is this item' search mod. Remove it only if you know you will not need it! In any case it is a very minimal mod, so if you dont need it you can just ignore the little icon for it.
- Recipe book is an alternate option
- If this is your first time playing seablock, I would highly recommend keeping this mod!
- Helmod
- This is your planner mod - once you know how to use it you can plan out your factory with it and use correct ratios / recipes instead of having to do all of that on paper (or just guesstimating)
- Remove it only if you have alternative planners!
- factory planner
- YAFC (external program)
- Foreman 2 (external program)
Which additional mods should I add?
Check out the
commonly used mods page on the wiki for ideas. Also, any QOL mods that you prefer (picker mods, companion drones / early robots / nanobots, some version of loaders, squeakthrough, text plates, LTN, longer reach, etc.)
TL/DR:
If you want the full seablock experience or came here after watching DoshDoshington (or any other youtube seablock videos) and want to play the game they played then you want to:
- Install factorio and ensure its the latest version
- Disable any mods you may have
- Install the 'seablock pack' (not 'seablock'!) mod
- Ensure that the seablock pack mod is enabled (not red/grey!)
- (optional) disable helmod / install factory planner, add any QOL mods you may want to add (check out the 'commonly used mods' page on the wiki for ideas)
- Start the game (freeplay)
- If you are lost, there are guides available on the seablock wiki, along with a link to the discord server listed right on the reddit page.

Dear Reddit users, This is a different topic. My local infiniti dealership took my G35 2008 for a small fix on gear shifter linkage replacement. After pickup, I have got several warning lights on dashboard (ABS, AWD, SLIP, check engine). Does anyone have any advice on what to do if a dealership may have potentially ruined the car during inspection? Thanks.
