3 penny stocks sitting on huge-upside catalysts.
Companies poised for healthy growth or meaningful progress towards product commercialization.
  • These are the penny stocks with high growth catalysts and represent companies with decent fundamentals.
  • Bit Digital ($BTBT): Their expansion in Bitcoin mining and diversification towards Ethereum staking is backed by a strong balance sheet.
  • Kinross Gold ($KGC): With gold near $2,000 an ounce, Kinross is positioned for growth.
  • Solid Power ($SLDP): Validation testing of their solid-state batteries by automotive partners is scheduled for this year.
It’s been a wild ride for penny stock investors since 2020. The euphoria meme and penny stock rally of 2021 was followed by a big correction in 2022. The penny stock space seems almost as volatile as cryptocurrencies. This should not be a deterrent for investors. On the contrary, volatility in penny stocks can be used to make quick money. Especially when you find penny stocks with high growth catalysts.
One potential strategy for quick gains is to buy high return penny stocks. This would typically involve identifying company or industry specific catalysts that can trigger a massive rally. It’s also important to note that macroeconomic challenges will sustain. Investor expectation therefore needs to be realistic or toned down. I believe that with positive industry or company specific catalysts, these are the best penny stocks with upside potential.

Bit Digital ($BTBT)

Bitcoin ($USD) has seen an increase of 60% year-to-date. During this period, Bit Digital ($BTBT) stock has skyrocketed by 420%. In my view, the rally from massively undervalued levels will sustain in the next 12 months.
The first impending catalyst is Bitcoin’s halving that is due in 2024. After the last halving event in 2020, Bitcoin had a big rally. If Bitcoin trends higher by 30% to 50% in the next 12 months, BTBT stock will at least double from current levels.
The second big catalyst for Bit Digital is diversification. The company has expanded into validating transactions on the Ethereum ($ETH) blockchain. One benefit is staking and generating yield. Another is diversification of digital assets in the balance sheet. I am bullish on Ethereum trending higher and that will support upside for BTBT stock.
Overall, with $70 million in liquidity and a zero-debt balance sheet, the company is positioned to grow aggressively as the cryptocurrency bull market returns.

Kinross Gold ($KGC)

With U.S. House passing the debt ceiling bill, the market stress has declined. It’s also likely that with economic slowdown and further increase in government debt, the dollar will weaken. I am bullish on gold trending to $2,500 an ounce by the end of 2023.
Kinross Gold ($KGC) is a massively undervalued gold mining stock with impending catalysts. First, if gold trades above $2,000 an ounce, Kinross will be positioned to deliver annual operating cash flows in excess of $1 billion. The dividend paying penny stock is positioned to increase its yield further. This will translate into stock re-rating.
Another impending catalyst is acquisition driven growth. With a bullish outlook for gold, the company will be looking at improving on its stable production guidance. With Kinross having $1.7 billion in liquidity buffer and with strong operating cash flow, acquisition seems to be in the cards. Even without an acquisition scenario, I expect KGC stock to double if gold trades and sustains above $2,000 an ounce.

Solid Power ($SLDP)

Solid Power ($SLDP) stock is possibly the best bet when it comes to emerging names in the solid-state battery space. SLDP stock has been in a downtrend in the last 12 months. However, I believe that there is one important catalyst that can trigger strong price action.
As an overview, Solid Power has strong automotive partners, Ford ($F) and BMW ($BMWYY). The company will be delivering EV cells to automotive partners in 2023 for validation testing. This is a big catalyst as it’s the first step towards battery commercialization. Assuming a positive review scenario from automotive partners, SLDP stock can surge by 100% at the blink of an eye.
Besides this, Solid Power has also licensed its cell design and manufacturing technology to BMW. This will allow for parallel research and development activity. There is a likelihood that this step will help in accelerating the progress towards battery commercialization.

2023.06.03 09:25 crogonint List of Alternate Barovian Maps which are Needed

I'm pretty sure that the majority of Barovian content creators have already seen some version of this list. I actually went back to update my original post of the list to discover that I never made my own post of it! I put together the first version of this list a couple of years ago. I'm pretty sure this is the most complete list of its kind anywhere: Alternate areas of Barovia that are commonly needed, besides the commonly published CoS specific battlemaps:
0) The (Dark) Carnival - nobody ever makes maps / assets for this, even though gobs of people always throw it in to their campaign, even though it's old as crap. I understand that there's a Carnival Realm in the new VRGtR book.. I'll probably never use the realm-carnival, but that's a second place the Dark Carnival maps/assets could be used. There are also a trio of third party Ravenloft carnival modules as well that they could be used in.
1) Battlemap sized maps of the towns. At LEAST a 5 foot per square / hex map for the tiger chase. (Obviously modern VTT platforms don't actually need the grid on the map. ;) )
2) Random shops, stables, blacksmiths and generic places the party is likely to go anyway.
3) Generic encounter locations.. country roads / rivers / bridges and combinations of the three. It sounds dumb because you can get generic encounter maps like that anywhere.. but it would be AWESOME to have matching Barovian roads and Svalitch woods on all of your encounter maps. Don't forget the specific crossroads with the gallows from CoS.. I don't recall if there were hanging cages mentioned, but you could throw in some PNG options for them.
4) A covered bridge, including the roof, deck and under views. (To tack on to the Headless Horseman add-in.) The Woodcutters hut as well.
5) Besides the Carnival, there are a few other old school modules that people like to bolt on to CoS (Adam, etc. etc.).
6) DragnaCarta, MandysMod and Pyram King have all developed alternate encounters and a handful of setting that might be able to use an alternate map here and there. (Orphanage.) In particular, I recall battles in/near the bogs, on mountain sides with/without roads and watch towers. Military and outfitter style tent interiors and exteriors and camps placed.. you know what? Make those camps be PNG assets that could be dropped in a bog, next to a river or on a mountain side as needed. ;) I recall Lunch Break Heroes making an encounter for Borgia/Borca, but I don't recall if they made any scenarios / encounters for Barovia. I got a special request for Beneath the Abbey.
7) The Interactive Tome of Strahd sends the party back in time and would be a PHENOMENAL set of maps to expand Barovia. Seriously, you could drop those on DMsGuild and make some bank. Some additionally pre-Strahd bright and shiny versions of the village of Barovia and other basic maps might be nice for some throw-back adventures.
8) Retro Castle Ravenloft.. Castle Ravenloft fully restored to its former glory! (Castle Barovia? I picture it as more of a walled garrison, looking like a giant stone bubble from a distance, but it did have at least one tower overlooking the cliff.) We know that the old pre-Strahd castle had multiple floors located in roughly the same place as Castle Ravenloft, but with significantly different floor plans, as the ghosts walk staircases and pass through doorways that don't exist anymore. :D (Important side-note: Strahd did not grow up in Castle Ravenloft. I believe that there is one (1) painting of him looking out over Yesterhill, through the mists at a vision of the castle he grew up in, but I don't think anyone has ever tackled it.)
9) The caverns and the alter area in and under the Pillarstone of Ravenloft (from Expedition to Ravenloft) are frequently added in to CoS. I've never seen a map of a hidden cavern entrance in the Svalitch woods, let alone a set of creepy Barovian caverns.. or the Castle side of the entrance, for that matter.
10) Around a decade ago, some weirdo drew an artistic image of Castle Ravenloft with the foundation bedrock rotted away under it. I'd like to see a detailed elevation map of the curtain wall and gatehouse with the bedrock still under the curtain wall, because that irritates me to no end. NOBODY would build a massive curtain wall on a questionable foundation. Reference Vlads actual castle (which is admittedly ten times smaller than Ravenloft) for a rather specific example of a (THE) castle built on the side of a cliff. As I recall, if looking at the gatehouse, the left side and back left corner of Vlads actual castle are protected by a cliff, and that's where the inspiration for Castle Ravenloft came from.
11)Speaking of elevation, at the other end of Castle Ravenloft are balconies and windows jutting out over the cliff. I'd love to see detailed maps of those areas, an 'ant sized' map of the Svalitch woods and Barovia as seen from the castle, and an elevation map of the cliff-side reaching from the Svalitch woods up past the windows and balconies to the Curtain wall. Parties occasionally decide to attempt to scale the cliff. Having a cliff and curtain wall that actually matches would be awesome.
12) Odd ball areas we never see. The druids must have huts or a village somewhere. The Roc must have a nest somewhere. The Mad Mage in Barovia has one of either a tower / cavern / pocket dimension somewhere. We could use Barovian flavored versions of all three. Oh, and the woods and encounters with said mage on the backside of the lake.. so a lake / forested area with spread out trees for players to run in terror or attempt to attack at range.. or whatever.
13) UNDER Lake Zarovich, there are a handful of generic encounters. There are also a few river monster encounters, generally near the Berez Swamp, could use a lair map and an underwater river encounter map, Barovia flavored. Speaking of Berez, I've never seen a detailed large scale swamp map for the Berez Swamp.. let alone the whole town being overrun by the swamp.
14) A proper Berez Swamp. A full sized swamp, with river banks, fields of cattail and reeds, murky backwaters, underwater groves of trees, and a couple of dozen oddly shaped islets and sandbanks.. a few dead logs.. not to mention a proper full sized assortment of Berez town ruins.
15) What's the village in the Adventurer's Guild Supplements?? Orasnou! There's a tiny village there (the size most people depict Berez as, because the CoS book doesn't describe the whole town of Berez properly). So that map is needed, along with.. 4 interior maps, if I recall? (Probably more, + a manor.) As well as an alternate werewolf lair and a few others, like a Barovian bluff, again if I recall off of the top of my head. I've had requests for the Gundarak villages Teufeldorf, Zeidenburg and Renika, as well as the other minor villages and..
16) The complete map of Barovia, post Grand Conjunction (done in standard modern style/graphics).
17) Various encounters have been depicted on Mount Baratok. Which would be a stark stone mountain, snowy and generally above the treeline, not like the hilly tree covered mountains where Argynvostholt and the Roc and etc. are located. I think a largish rocky encounter map of the mountainside would be the first needed. I (seem to) recall a three tiered monastery built on the side of a cliff, with a freshwater spring enclosed that would require an elevation map along with three small interioexterior maps showing the wooden stairs going up and down the cliff-side. I recall one encounter involving a lai small cave sized area.
18) Lots of people want Van Richtens magic shop and other stuff described in his escapades. We could also use a handful of Vistani Vardos and Camps. If I recall, there are only two described in the CoS book, but there are many more tribes of Vistani than that, and we're told that they move around frequently. If might be easier to provide PNG files for the vardos, outfitter tents and assets for a large scale camp. Come to think of it, there aren't a whole lot of tokens for those smallish horses they use either, so someone might whip up 10-12 smallish shaggy horses with unique patterns to show off. They don't care one ounce for a horses pedigree, and are more than happy to keep unique looking mongrel horses as their personal caravan animals. They use mountain horse stock when breeding their horses, so they would be a bit hairier and stockier then say an Arabian.. just scaled closer to a pony size. Donkey size! They're donkey sized horses. :D ..real donkey size, if I recall 5e has some weirdness going on with their official donkey/wagon sizes that makes no sense at all for Vardos sized horses and wagons like the Vistani would have.
19) The valley where the village of Barovia is located is described as a massive fertile farming area, yet we never see any medieval farms, ranches, graineries or farmers markets for Barovia. Definitely need a few of those. Barovian farmers and ranchers would SPECIFICALLY all have the buildings that (in the real world) later became fortifications, Thick werewolf proof walls and heavily barricaded doors everywhere. No window on the ground floor. Livestock was housed indoors, in enclosed courtyards with family areas wrapped around them, or with the animals on the ground floor and the family living above on the second floor. Horse stalls and farrowing areas would be fenced off within the area. Graineries would be large round wooden buildings with barricaded doors and sturdy out-buildings. 10 foot tall max, today's 4-5 story tall graineries are a modern invention. There would probably be a large stone community grainery far on the other side of the valley from the Village of Barovia. for that matter, there ought to be a functioning grainery or warehouse somewhere between the Village of Barovia and Bonegrinder. ALSO, if Bonegrinder is no longer being used as a mill, there would HAVE to be another windmill or waterwheel driven mill somewhere else in Barovia. Many artists have envisioned a water-wheel grainery on the River Ivlis near the Village of Barovia. Corn cribs would be on the second floor of a barn for drying grain, doubling up to dry bales of hay, not primarily as a hay loft. PNGs for 2-3 styles of fencing and gates, water troughs, and some medieval horse drawn plows and rakes would be nice. Dog kennels!! Every farm would probably have it's own horse pasture or rink with a training post, and a dog kennel or run for dogs to run during the day. You know those giant mastiffs that the Barovian nobles are so fond of? Yeah, the farmers in the fertile valley near Barovia would be the only ones rich enough to be able to afford to raise those pups for the nobles. Somewhere out here would be a medieval rancher set up to raise mastiff puppies with an assortment of full grown mastiffs. Mongrel pups or runts would be sold off to neighboring farms at a discount. Roaming wolves would stay FAR away from them, and werewolf packs would likely attack them for any reason at all (if they could find a way in to the basin). I picture a LARGE farmers market and stockyards just inside the River Ivlis bridge of the Valley of Barovia. We know that Barovia is a trade center.. so there MUST be one. The bridge would offer protection if needed, and it would be the closest place farmers and ranchers could set up to provide commerce with the other villages and domains and still have the protection of being inside the gates. Hmm.. they might have a dirt race track there for showing off horses going up for sale. Make that very probably, The Vistani/Romani are famous for defending their mountain horses at the drop of a hat. This would be the main place of commerce for farmers goods in Barovia. This is (the main area) where Vistani Caravans would import and export farm goods in to and out of Barovia.
20) There would absolutely be homestead (small) sized farms and ranches carved out up in mountain valleys or even on mountain sides facing south. In fact, a south facing mountain side might get enough sunlight to raise delicate crops, spices and herbs, whereas most of Barovia can't, due to the mists blocking the sunlight. Also, a couple of mountain pastures with matching rocks / trees bordering them would be nice. Honestly though, if you pass out some rock and tree assets that match the ones you already use, anybody could throw together their own mountain pastures, or even their own valley pastures. Rows of crops are hard to find though! You could easily have scenarios of wolves/werewolves hunting the party in a cornfield.. but there are no Barovian cornfield battlemaps. ACTUALLY, I don't think I have any battlemap sized crop assets, and I probably have the largest collection of map assets around. You could probably sell these farming assets/maps on DriveThruRPG and DMsGuild as well, I've never seen them anywhere. ..OR you might ask Forgotten Adventures or Tom Cartos to throw some together, whatever seems clever. :) I've been asked specifically to try to get Yaedrag (barbarian-esque village in the mountains that Dragna wrote up) made up.
21) Jenny Greenteeth's Hut.. perhaps a grove of her untainted trees from the Quivering Forest? (Also the Glumpen Swamp and Vanishing Hills, various locations within these.) I picture the Quivering Forest loaded with fruit and nut trees and songbirds fighting for real estate (the text mentions angry squirrels).. surrounded by classic Svalitch Woods half-dead spooky trees. ;) I recall seeing a couple of versions that roughly followed the description given in DDAL04, but they're just a hut, not the whole barrow surrounding her hut as described. Additionally, many artists have upscaled her hut to be a small trading post, and put it on wooden poles, swamp style (never seen a battlemap of it, though). Lots of room for creative renditions there. :)
22) Another thing that I haven't seen ANYBODY making is small abbeys. The hills and mountains of Barovia are said to be littered with small abbeys. ..some of them abandoned, some not.
23) Abandoned mansions and manors. Strahd massacred the noble families of Barovia for their involvement in his father's murder. There is one legend of a nobleman possessed by a demon that Strahd left alive, as a curse 'worse than death'. At any rate, there ought to be a handful of abandoned / haunted mansions and manors dotting the Barovian countryside for the party to stumble in to (or check out due to a hook dropped by an informative villager).
24) There are currently NO mines in the CoS version of Barovia.. bizarre for a mountain country. It would suit that some of those decimated noble families ran some mines that have since been abandoned. Of course, it wouldn't do to host your standard monsters in a Barovian mine. I'm thinking Lair of the White Worm. Something more horrifying than dungeoneering.
25) It's been mentioned that instead of murdering the losers from the werewolf trials, they might be shipped off to be slaves in a mine, or to a plantation in the swamp. The plantation would be stick construction, as you would expect in a swamp, they would collect tubers and reeds that grow in the swamp, not traditional plantation type crops.
26) The various Barovian villages NOT included on Schleys map of (Central) Barovia usually have a town sized map plotted out and published somewhere, but no really decent overview maps or battlemap sized maps of them exist. (This need might easily be filled by a couple of handfuls of generic Barovian village buildings, field-stone and dirt street assets, and sundry village constructions.
27) Besides the Gates of Barovia, there are supposed to be watch-towers dotting the landscape as well. An operational watchtower and a couple of partially ruined ones would be awesome.

Assets nobody has made like the Dark Carnival and lake/river encounters and the Mad Mages various lair options would be the most needed. I simply don't understand why EVERY CoS map developer doesn't provide matching roads, forests, rivers and generic shops with matching Barovian assets. The maps I mentioned which you could make money selling on DriveThruRPG and DMsGuild (to me) would just be silly NOT to make. ...Van Richtens magic shop is requested a LOT. When the party first enters Barovia, I can picture them being chased in to a fortified farm by a pack of dire wolves / werewolves at dusk (perhaps the first couple of farms won't unbarricade their doors). I'm sure you can see the utility of the rest. Will everybody need a Roc nest on a cliff above the forest? No. Will DMs derail their campaign for a minute just for the opportunity to make the party loot a Roc nest? Yes. :
Finally, I would note that since I wrote this list, a few cartographers have added some of the above locations to their Library, but the vast majority of these are as of yet, untouched. :)

i made a list of the fish needed for the community center and where you find them/what season etc.
FYI: i didn’t add the crab pot bundle because you can get that done easily by collecting stuff off of the beach and killing a rock crab in the mines for the crab you need!
— and i also didn’t add ones you can get on ginger island, in winter with rain totem, and secret woods with different conditions, etc…

2023.06.03 07:08 saveswildlife1922 Do work friendships last after deployment changes?

A really great woman wants to continue to be friends and connect more after I changed departments within our company. We no longer work side by side. We had a solid talk agreed to really make an effort. My question for y'all.
What are some ways we can do simple last minute friendship actions to stay connected?
We live separate paths. She's about 10 years younger than me with 3 small children and a packed schedule of birthday parties, sports games, PTA, family time. All the things. I'm on a different chapter in my life, preparing for empty nest, traveling spontaneously, enjoying time at the lake. Our husbands are not compatible.
Some advice or tips on continuing to strengthen and cultivate a solid female friendship would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

2023.06.03 05:57 Muted_Nectarine5162 Not sure what to do

Hello everyone,
I'm piggybacking off a post I saw earlier because while my situation is very different, I felt like the post resonated with me.
Unlike the other person's post I am young and I don't have a family of my own and I live on the West Coast of the U.S.
With everything going on from the extreme El Nino expected to hit this summer, combined with economic instability, combined with climate change etc etc, I keep asking myself what the point is?
For me bugging out means moving to a place that is hotter than the place I live now because that's where my family is. I am in school for a degree that isn't useless but it doesn't guarantee me a job out of college (with my dream job requiring a master's degree). Recently it's been hard to find a reason why I should prep at all.
I can't just move to the middle of nowhere to get a farm because 1) I don't have sufficient skills or knowlege 2) I have insufficient funds 3) I'd be cutting myself off from my family and people I care about.
I keep thinking of things I could do or that might help and it all just feels super pointless. Going to class, going to work, doing homework just all feels like a waste of time when it seems to me like shit will hit a fan in a few years, especially with more and more people talking about a slow collapse. What am I supposed to do about that?
I know the motto is prep for Tuesday and not for Doomsday but it's starting to feel like Doomsday is scheduled for Tuesday, all other issues aside this seems to apply to climate change most accurately.
I know humans have been through a lot and we can survive more than we can think but just trying to prepare for anything feels pointless compared to everything else that is happening/will happen.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: cleared mh head a little bit. I do have food for a couple of days and water for a few days as well (I’d have more but I live in a house with two other people who have given no interest in prepping but just know I like to have a well stocked pantry) and have a basic medical kit and have taken first aid courses. My main transport is a bike and I can do the bare minimum of maintenece on that. I’m not saying that I shouldn’t be ready for anything but just finding a reason to care about anything beyond the bare minimum is hard.

2023.06.03 04:39 zefferoni Any of y'all fish the Upper Peninsula of Michigan?

I've been wanting to head up that way to fish for trout and smallmouth. I'm also a rockhounder and really want to look for some yooperlite and Lake Superior agates. I live in Oklahoma where it goes from freezing to hot around March 15th, and back to freezing exactly at November 15th on the dot. I'm just curious, what's the ideal time for coming to fish the rivers/lake? I'm about to do my own research, but also would appreciate if you have any heads up about fish seasonality, as where I live there aren't 'seasons' for fishing. Thank y'all, and I'm looking forward to exploring that part of the country soon!

2023.06.03 03:36 Dan_Stainberg [Econ][Retro] Canada's bid to win Net Zero

Summary

The Inflation Reduction Act passed in the United Sates continues to mingle in background of Canadian policy-making, as massive subsidies from Washington make even the tax on carbon increasingly less efficient, with many leading Canadian companies opting to focus on their projects in the United States. With American carrots on clime policy, the Canadian stick becomes increasingly less effective, as many business leaders see an ever growing policy uncertainty over whatever little of an invective Canada has to offer. This is especially prevalent for long-term decarbonisation projects, that would un-economical without either a nation-wide price on carbon that forces companies to invest in going green, or a recast subsidy regime for green technologies that turn decarbonisation for an expensive exercise into a completive advantage.
While some people believe that abolishing the federal price on carbon on Canada would still allow the country to meet its Paris climate commitments, offsetting the lack of a "climate stick" with a carrot of additional subsidies, it's widely recognised to be an unlikely option. Canada simply doesn't have the either fiscal nor private capital firepower to compete with American incentives. Thus making a combination of a "clime stick" through a federal carbon price, complied with more modest positive incentives remains the only viable strategy to foster a nation-wide tradition to the green economy.
Federal pricing on pollution has also created increasings tensions between Ottawa and provinces, especially in Western Canada - a region traditionally dependent on natural renounce extraction and processing to support their economy, and generate energy. Thus, the main opposition party - the Conservative Party of Canada - that has traditionally viewed the West as their stronghold, has unsurprisingly committed to repealing the federal price on carbon. Something that becomes increasingly likely as the the governing Liberals continue to fall behind the Tories in all provinces except Quebec. Therefore, putting the future of Canadian climate policy at risk.

You know, businesses hate uncertainty more than anything else.

Environment & Investment Guarantees

To resolve this uncertainty, Canada is launching comprehensive hedging mechanism to guarantee a Pan-Canadian Price on pollution, especially on carbon emissions through Pollution Pricing Contracts for Difference (PPCDs) - a proposal originally mentioned in the Federal Budget 2023, is finally being rolled out across the country in 2024.
PPCD represents a contract between the Government of Canada and a private company that guarantees a nation-wide solution price remains above originally announced projects, such as $170 price per tonne of carbon emissions. If the price falls bellow bellow the original threshold at an expected date, the Government of Canada is set to cover the difference through direct subsidies to the given project and its investors.
To further strengthen the carbon pricing regime, the Government introduces the "PPCD default provision" that allows any company in Canada to claim a fully refundable tax credit to fully compensate for estimated cost of carbon tax paid thought its operating period, including the gap between "would be" and an actual carbon price. Thus, if national carbon price falls bellow its original schedule, not only can a company have their carbon taxes paid back, but also receive full payment for forgone future carbon tax expenses.
The provision can be used by any company without a PPCD contract, and is triggered automatically upon any changes to federal carbon price. It also applies to carbon credit markets, where the Government of Canada is set to guarantee a specific price for carbon credits for specific projects or a market as whole, providing direct finical compensation when the actual price falls short of an expected benchmark.
Simultaneously, Ottawa is set to enter into Carbon Credit Forward Purchase Agreements for duration of 5 years or longer with individual emitters and industry associations. This would allow for the Government of Canada to guaranteed carbon and other pollution pricing for specific projects, directly compensating lower than expected pricing for designated projects.
The Government of Canada has concluded a set of Federal-Provincial Pollution Pricing Agreements, where Ottawa is set to be opearte as a last-resort buyer of carbon credits for local or sectoral marlets, using the federal carvon price as a benchmark. However, under the FPPPAs the federal government has also onbidgted to disapply the federal carbon backstop and fully absorb the cost of pushasing exessive credits. Notably, Ottawa has also committed to maintaining a more harmonious price on carbon across the country, through allowing local authorities to increase the supply of credits to align it with other provinces, so long it doesn't fall bellow the federal benchmark.
Most importantly, however, FPPPAs also oblige provinces to introduce contracts for difference when it comes to energy markets - traditionally a provincial jurisdiction.
Traditionally, energy markets operate through energy generating companies singing purchase contracts with energy distributors to deliver it to final customers. The cost of buying the energy and delivering is effectively passed onto consumers buy distributors with a higher mark up for to maintain to profitability. However, in markets where energy has been generated largely through fossil fuel extraction, the final price of electricity is eagerly determined by prices of fossil fuels.
To ensure the markets operate smoothy, Energy Contracts for Difference are used, to narrow the gap between wholesale price on electricity and the strike price - the point at which energy generation remains economically viable - desired by generators. The strike price is determined through an open auction of multiple generators, on an open auction, until with strike price suggestions being accepted until the budget or the capacity of the grid have been exhausted. The sealed bid for the last project accepted sets a multi-year strike price that all successful bidders receive, that is further indexed for inflation, for annual adjustments.
Thus, whenever the average wholesale price for electricity runs bellow the strike price, the government is set to cover the difference for renewable energy generating companies, to keep their business afloat. However, whenever the reference price - the average wholesale market price - exceeds the strike price, the companies should return excessive profits to the government.
Under respite FPPPAs, the monitoring those markets as well as operating the payments is set to be done by an independent provincial agency, funded through levies on non-renewable energy generation, generally following the approach of the United Kingdom.
The price guarantee however also applied to generation for nuclear energy, clean hydrogen, and - in provinces dependent on fossil fuels - temporary natural gas.
Since, energy prices remain flat across the market, they become effective regressive when it comes to income distribution. Households have to pay based on their individual consumption, being identical and per household consumption being largely balanced, causes lower income households to spend more on energy since per unit price of electricity remains the same regardless of household income. Additionally, some provinces have energy generation that is largely dependent on fossil fuel generation, causing future ECfDs to increase prices of electricity substantially. Thus, the Government of Canada is set to absorb the cost of energy rebates to households to offset those increased costs, with the specifics determined by the provinces through the Canadian Green Energy Rebate Program (CGERP).
A similar approach is used for critical minerals, where the Government of Canada opens auctions to determine strike prices for natural resource exploration and processing projects, and the guaranteeing that specific price for projects associated with a given auction. If the market price falls from bellow the strike price, the Government of Canada shall compensate the difference, while extra profits from elevated prices shall be compensate to pay-back to Ottawa.
For critical minerals specifically, CfDs are signed over 25-year period, with the strike price being reference against a comprehensive benchmark against fossil fuel. The contracts guarantee critical minerals shall remain more attractive in terms of return guarantees as opposed to fossil fuels.
Finally, the Government is also expanding carbon contracts for difference to all Investment & Innovation Canada institutions, rather than just the Canada Growth Fund, instead incorporating emissions reduction as a supplementary mandate for all bodies of the IIC. Instead, the CGF sees their mandate expanded to support commercialisation of market-ready technologies not just for the green transition, but when it comes to energy production, construction, aerospace, life sciences, communications, and inflation technologies. While managing the issue of PPCDs and other contracts for difference backed by Ottawa - including kickstarting auctions - falls under the jurisdiction of the newly created Office of Contract Guarantees
The Government is also launching a new Equity & Asset Finance Program that aims to provide confessional funding to smaller investors, especially those in equity markets, when it comes to purchasing equity in IIC-backed projects. The Program allows IIC institutions to partner other finical players, and through income-contingent grants, matching programmes, and all other available instruments lend to smaller investors, including individual ones, to cover the purchase of corporate equity for companies that have been listed on a Canadian stock exhale for 5 years or less, or operate in the renewable energy, battery production, clean energy and industrial equipment, IT, pharmaceuticals and life sciences.
Additionally, the Government strengthens the accountability for IIC institutions, through the creation of the Innovation & Business Assistance Council of Canada, including provincial jurisdictions. IBACC provides through supervision and independent assessment the combined and overall perforce of IIC institutions, including their finical health and long-term profitability. It also uses overseeing councils of Regional Development Agencies to monitor the success of individual RDAs, calculating their finical soundness and long-term market impact. The Council is also tasked with screening individual applicants and projects together with relevant institutions within the IIC, using the data collected as proxy for an overall assessment of a programme, or an institution.
The key performance indicators that the Council uses to assess the perforce of specific programmes, as well as IIC insertions include:
Those two impact assessment remain mandatory for all projects, together comprising the assessment for long-term ability of a project to remain financially viable without governmental support.

Political Implications

From a policy standpoint, the current policy mix unveiled during the Fall Economic Update 2024 effectively provides comprehensive insurance for the Liberals' climate policy in case they loose the upcoming election - something that seems to become increasingly likely.
However, when it comes to pure politics, both Trudeau and the federal Conservatives find themselves in a tight spot.
For Team Red the problem lies in a trade off they made, opting for enshrining their climate policy through Carbon Contracts for Defence (PPCDs) where even minor changes to price on pollution will result in massive fiscal punishments for the Government of Canada. Additionally, the Federal-Provincial Agreements effectively commit both the provinces and Ottawa to maintaining some form of carbon pricing, with the Feds still maintaining the role of a backstop party. However, Trudeau had to effectively pull the breaks on two of his major policies: the Clean Energy Regulations - with similar objectives being achieved through FPPPAs - and the federal emissions cap, as a concession made as part of an apparent close-door negotiants with western provinces to sign the agreements. Which will be quite difficult to sell to a more progressive side of the Liberal electorate.
Team Blue on the other hand is seemly trying to dial down on their promises to repeal federal price on carbon, instead aiming for the Environmental Impact Assessment, emphasising how the Act may likely slow down exploration and development of critical minerals. The Tories are also doubling down on housing affordability, as slowing inflation shifts Canadians' perception Liberals' economic competence. Nevertheless, Conservatives still resonate with people, on another key issue: national unity. Although Liberals seem to have successfully avoided direct head-to-head collision with the Conservative-run Alberta, lack of Western support for Trudeau climate policies may provide a hook for the Tories to hang on to. Especially as neither party seem to be able to secure a clear majority in Quebec, to un-seat the nationalist Bloc Québécois.

2023.06.03 03:18 Iceprincess1988 Proof it's better to use a small independent pharmacy

I thought I'd share what happened today in case it can help someone. Today was the day I was scheduled to fill my oxycodone. I knew there could possibly be some problems thanks to the great Opiate/opiod shortage of 23. I use a small independent pharmacy and I'm really cool with everyone that works there. I can even tell their voices apart on the phone. So when I called, it was an unknown voice on the phone. She, of course, tells me that they're out of stock of the oxycodone. I begin to panic, thinking "what am I gunna do?!?" I asked if she could at least check and tell me what they did have. She said she'd check and put me on hold. After a bit, someone else came back to the phone and this time I recognized the voice. It was ms.laurie(who I usually deal with threre) She told me everything was fine for me to come pick up my medicine. She said that 1st lady didn't know that she had already squirreled away enough oxycodone for my script. I was beyond relived!!
This would have never happened if I used a chain pharmacy. Small independent pharmacies are a must.

2023.06.03 02:55 autotldr Lake Maggiore boat accident: Questions remain over spy deaths

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 88%. (I'm a bot)
The story of a boat that sunk on Lake Maggiore on 28 May has elements of a spy novel.
They were among 23 people aboard the small boat that set out to cruise the lake.
Lake Maggiore and its shoreline are divided between the Italian regions of Lombardy and Piedmont, and the Swiss canton of Ticino.
While some reports say the boat ride was an innocent pleasure trip, several major Italian news outlets are reporting that it was a secret work meeting between Italian and Israeli agents.
The boat was still on the lake after the scheduled return time.
Mr Nocerino added that the boat only had capacity for 15 passengers, but there were eight more than that aboard.

2023.06.03 02:12 tinylocksmithisme Bad luck

In the last month I've serviced and ordered replacements for 2 separate customers for multi points. One is an Amsbury Truth that we went back and forth with Strybuc and thought it was ordered, then they come back and say actually we don't stock it and we won't order it unless you buy 6 since it comes from Europe (which there's no way we sell maybe one a year and never the same one twice to my knowledge 🙄) and now the customer is kinda screwed, so if anybody has any suggestions please share because we can't find it anywhere else so far.
The second is a Furr replacement, it was seized in multiple ways took some finesse to get it open but I got there, took all my measurements, lock it back up and go on my way. It was an automatic roller style (which automatic is not my preference but not my decision), submit my p.o. and my boss calls me the next morning with the news that they don't make that style anymore and for whatever fucking reason the measurements will not line up with any other roller so the best option to do a conversion to a shoot bolt style and it'll be pricy. I get the customers okay, not stoked about it but it's the main door they like to use so she accepts. They take 2 weeks to arrive, pretty standard. Get it yesterday, go out today to install (thankfully near another job I had scheduled today so not a total waste of a 45 minute drive) get the door back open, the failed unit removed, start unwinding all the packaging around the new unit since they've started some seriously tight wrapping after we had 5 in a row arrive damaged, finally get into it... the packing sheet has all the right parts listed on it. Strikes, screws, gear box and bottom rod attached, middle extension piece, top shoot bolt, profile cylinder. But actually in the box is the bottom rod and gear box, the top shoot bolt, and 1 bottom rod with gear box for an automatic tongue version. Missing my other pieces and added an extra bottom half to a random lock. There's only 2 of us with Multipoint capability I checked with the other guy he hasn't ordered an auto tongue in ages. So had to box it all back up, put the door back together, lock it back up, and inform the customer that she's gotta wait some more.
Just frustrated with the multipoint shit. I usually like working on them but goddammit.

2023.06.03 00:34 JoshAsdvgi THE HUNTER WHO BECAME A FISH

THE HUNTER WHO BECAME A FISH

THE HUNTER WHO BECAME A FISH
Two brothers started off to hunt.
After they had I camped they heard a peculiar noise and one of them said, "I am going to find out what that is," and he followed the sound.
It seemed to come from inside a hollow tree.
Thinking there might be a bear in the tree the young man ran back to camp and said to his brother, "There must be a bear in that tree over there, but it makes a noise like a whirlwind."
They went to the tree and one of them climbed up and looked into the hole.
At first he couldn't see anything.
Then, at the bottom of the hole, he saw a spotted trout jumping around.
He got the trout out and threw it down to his brother, who said, "This is a curious fish. Let's take it to camp."
"Don't touch it," said the other, "It might be something that will harm us."
But the young man didn't listen; he took the trout to camp, cleaned and ate it
Right away, he said, "Bring some water, I am thirsty."
Water was brought and he drank and kept drinking, "Couldn't drink enough."
"I think the fish is making you sick," said his brother.
"Get more water," was the answer. "Take my moccasins and fill them."
When the young man was tired of bringing water he said to his brother, "You must go to the spring where you can drink all the water you want."
He went to the spring, drank till he was tired, then rested and drank again.
When the other brother went to the spring he was frightened; his brother's mouth was like the mouth of a fish.
"Doesn't your mouth feel strange?" asked he.
The man put up his hand and then knew that his mouth had grown large, but he kept on drinking.
The next time the young man went to the spring his brother was half fish; fish to the waist, and he was still drinking.
Later he went to the spring and found that his brother had become a fish and gone into the water.
The next morning when the young man went to the spring, he saw a great fish far under the water, and the spring had become a pond.
He sat down on the bank and soon the Fish rose to the surface, and said, "My poor brother, go home and tell our father what has happened to me.
When you want fish come here and get all you need; this pond will always be full of fish."
The young man went home and told what had taken place.
The people came to the pond; the Fish rose to the surface, and said, "I shall not be a fish long, I am going to be a NYAGWAIHE."
Soon the Fish changed to a NYAGWAIHE (a great bear).
The Bear stayed around the pond and of each party that came to fish, it killed and ate one man.
Nobody saw this, but each party always lost one of its number, and people began to think that if the Bear lived long it would kill a great many men.
A council was called to decide what to do, and three young, men promised to kill the Bear.
They went to the pond, but never came back.
The Bear's brother said, "I will go to the pond, maybe I can drive him away."
And taking parched corn flour to eat, new moccasins to wear, and a good bow and twelve arrows he went to the pond and camped on the bank.
That night he dreamed that his brother, in the form of a man, came to him, and asked, "Why are you here? I can kill you."
And he answered, "I came to drive you away, for you are doing a great deal of harm."
The man said, "I will start at daylight and run.
Follow, and see if you can overtake me."
The next morning the young man went in the direction the man had indicated, running as fast as he could. Just at midday he saw bear tracks, and he called out, "Now I'll overtake you!"
He ran faster than before, ran till dark, then camped and built a fire.
When he opened his bundle of corn flour it had turned to ants; he had nothing to eat. The Bear had done this to deprive his brother of food.
While the young man sat by the fire thinking, he heard some one approaching; he knew it was the Bear and he had drawn his bow, ready to aim, when the Bear called out, "Wait, brother, till I talk with you.
If you will let me go I will start early to-morrow morning, and leave this part of the country forever."
The brother said, "I will let you go."
They parted and the next morning the young man went back to his village and told the people what had happened and said, "You can fish in the lake as much as you like; no one will trouble you.
And so it proved.

2023.06.03 00:10 fur_fox_sake_ AITA for not going to my friends’ kid’s sporting events?

My husband (35M) and I (35F) are good friends with a couple who we’ll call Justin (40M) and Maddie (40F). We once worked at the same company as Justin and over the course of 10 years became close with them. They have 3 children: 11F, 9M and 7M. They own a boat on a lake and they like to invite us over to hang out on the lake, have game nights and dinner. This does mean that their kids are usually around when we are together and we’re happy to entertain and play with them. It’s very rare that they get a sitter to go out on double dates or go out on dates themselves. I think that over the years, Justin and Maddie have become comfortable with having us over and seeing us with their children and their children enjoy seeing us as well. My husband and I currently do not have kids of our own.
Maddie is a stay at home super mom. She’s a planner and is very involved in her children’s lives. She ensures that they have a full agenda of activities and are involved in sports and she loves it and I love that for her. She is also involved in her local PTA and has a solid group of mom friends that she’s met through PTA and community events.
I personally feel that Justin could really help her out more. There have been times when we have been over where my husband and I are helping Maddie get the children to bed and Justin isn’t engaged. He travels often for work, works late or is out golfing with colleagues. Due to this lack of support, I am one of the people she reaches out to for favors (I assume she asks others but I am not sure). My husband and I both work and are in high level leadership roles at our respective companies so we recognize the work commitments Justin faces.
I’ve driven one of her sons to his baseball games when her other son was playing on a different field. I’ve even helped watch her kids when Justin had surgery and she would visit him during recovery. One favor I declined to do was to be at Maddie’s home when the kids got off the bus at 3pm because her FIL was getting discharged after having heart surgery and Justin was at work and had a meeting. I too had a meeting at 3pm that day and was in the office an hour away. I couldn’t understand why Justin couldn’t take time off for a family medical emergency. At this point, I was beginning to question all these favors we were being asked when it came to child care. I was annoyed that they were asked with no regard to our job schedules and with little to no explanation as to why Justin wasn’t around to help. Messages to me would also imply that since I could sometimes work from home or didn’t have kids, I should be around /free to help.
One day, I was asked day of, if I could take her daughter to gymnastics and again was annoyed because she had to be there by 4pm. I still had more work to do. I was venting to my husband and he reminded me that they were great friends who always welcomed us into their home and that acts of kindness like this is a small way to show up for our friends. So he picked up her daughter at their home and dropped her off at gymnastics and brought her back when practice was over. He ran errands in between. Months later we are at a Christmas party with friends and a different friend was talking about her own daughter’s gymnastic competitions. Out of nowhere Maddie makes a comment/joke that my husband likes watching girls’ gymnastic practices. The table got quiet and my husband was shocked, upset and uncomfortable. He only dropped her off that one time and did not observe the practice as Maddie was claiming. I too was upset because of what it implied and already felt very taken advantage of. Luckily the comment wasn’t acknowledged since it really had nothing to do with the conversation and our other friends didn’t bothered to entertain it. We both were so upset and but chose not to say anything at the party.
We did decide to re-evaluate the amount of support we would be giving to Justin and Maddie. Our thoughts were that we didn’t want to loose the friendship but we could set better boundaries on what we were able to do. Perhaps we should have recognized earlier that it was strange we were the ones to be called when they had other parents in their community they could rely on. I remember getting dropped off at soccer by my teammates parents when mine couldn’t. We also decided that it wasn’t worth confronting Maddie because she wouldn’t take the feedback well or maturely. I also feared that the discussion could dive into Justin’s lack of support when it came to raising their children and that is not our place to comment. I also had heard from a mutual friend that some of the mom’s in the mom group were beginning exit the mom group because Maddie was overbearing. Maddie is also very insecure and is in denial about other issues she and and her family has so it didn’t seem right to pile our disappointment on top of that when we could simply change how we interacted with them.
For months, Maddie and Justin would invite us to watch their boys’ soccer and baseball games on Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings. We declined to attend, we never attended games before and we also don’t do this for our other friend’s. Also, watching children’s sports is the last thing we want to do on Friday nights/Saturday mornings. Maddie mentioned that she would like to see me come to one of the games and that it was so much fun as her and her mom friends fill their yeti’s with cocktails and have a blast. I assume to entice me into thinking it was as cool as going out to a bar. I said that it sounded like a fun time for them especially since they needed to be there but I had other commitments during those times (watching Succession obviously). She didn’t understand and she continues to ask me to show up to her kids’ events. The most recent ask was to run a motheguardian-daughter 5K with her daughter because she couldn’t run. I’m a runner and this is something I would love to do but I also don’t want this to spark a debate about showing up for one kid and not the others. I feel bad that I haven’t been fully honest about my reasons but I just think that there’s so much to unpack with their family dynamic that I’m respectfully choosing to stay out of it and continue to politely decline. Am I the asshole?

2023.06.02 23:56 Thelastfrontiers Solo Trip Report: May 17 - May 29 (LONG)

Solo Trip Report: May 17 - May 29 (LONG)
I will post the resources used at the end of the post but here is the full itinerary.
May 17th (Arrival)
I arrived at KEF around 8 AM, I scheduled the pick up time of my van at 10:00 AM, around 9:15 AM the person from Cheap Campervans picked me up at the airport and drove us to the Happy Campers place. Van pick up was smooth and easy and headed towards Reykjavik since I scheduled a reservation at 12:30 at Sky Lagoon.
Stayed at Sky Lagoon for around 2 hours, did the ritual ( It was a nice experience, I'm not used to go to this type of places so it was a new experience for me).
Drove to the AirBnB I booked and died for a few hours there, then I walked towards Hallgrimskirkja and just walked around in that area, visited Harpa, Sun Voyager and ate some delicious hot dogs at Bæjarins. I stopped at a Bonus store on the way back to the AirBnB to grab supplies for the trip and I arrived once again at the AirBnB.
May 18 (Golden Circle)
Woke up, had breakfast and drove towards Thingvellir. I parked at Parking 1 and walked around the park for a few hours, visited Öxarárfoss, Logberg, Almannagjá etc. It was windy and rainy but fortunately I was prepared and had a really great time, although it was a little bit crowded on some parts.
Thingvellir
Next stop was Brúarfoss. I didn't do the whole hike due to the weather so I stayed in the new parking lot that they have, if I'm not mistaken the price was around 750 ISK, the road is gravel but any 2WD can access it without a problem if you are careful. Place was beautiful and there were maybe 2 or 3 persons there.
Drove to Strokkur to see the Geyser, stayed there for a bit until the Geyser "exploded" and took some pictures and then left, beware of the smell here.
Drove to Gullfoss and I parked in the lower parking lot, I walked to the side of the waterfall and it was incredible, trully a highlight of the day but make sure to bring some really good hiking shoes/boots and some waterproof equipment.
Finally Arrived at Skjol Camping which was pretty good, had a pizza and a beer in the restaurant they have and went to sleep.
May 19 (South)
First stop of the day was Kerid Crater, you need to pay 450 ISK to enter but it's a beautiful view, walked around the crater and left.
Drove to Seljalandsfoss, you also need to pay parking here and it was very crowded when I arrived, walked to Seljalandsfoss and went behind the waterfall. Walked to Gljufrafoss and entered the cave, make sure to bring good waterproof shoes here cause you need to walk in water to enter the cave.
Next stop was Skógafoss, simply amazing, I stayed for a bit inside the restaurant that is in front and had something to eat in the meantime that the rain stopped a little, once it stopped I walked to the waterfall, I went up the stairs towards the Fimmvorduhals trail and walked for a mile or so and then I returned.
Skógafoss
Drove to Kvernufoss, wow, one of the hightlights of the trip. I walked down until the end where the waterfall is and just stayed there for a bit, simply amazing place and I was alone for almost the entire hike.
Drove to Dyrhólaey but unfortunately it was closed.
Drove to Reynisfjara and stayed there for a bit.
Finally arrived at an AirBnB I booked that was just a few minutes from Vik, I was unable to find a camp that was open around that area (or maybe I just didn't do a lot of search).
May 20
First stop was the Black Sand beach in Vik, really beautiful views and way less crowded than Reynisfjara.
Did the lava show at Vik and it was an amazing experience, definitely recommend doing this if you are in the area, after the show I ate an amazing lamb soup in the restaurant.
Drove to Eldhraun, short stop but beautiful views all around.
Drove to Fjaðrárgljúfur, road is paved all the way through and it's very easy to access, did the hike and took some amazing shots here, unfortunately mid hike there was a wind storm and I lost my lens hood of my camera and the raincoat I had for my backpack, Iceland winds are no joke!
Fjaðrárgljúfur
Did a little stop at Fossálar to take some pictures and finally arrived at Tjaldsvæðið í Svínafelli camp, really good facilities.
May 21 (South East)
Drove to Skaftafell since I booked a Glacier Hike with Arctic Adventures, the whole tour lasted around 4 hours and it was definitely one of the things I liked the most about the trip. Once we returned I had a little bite at the restaurant that the park has and then I continued the trip. (I wanted to do the Svartifoss hike but I was a little tired).
Glacier
Drove to the Múlagljúfur Canyon, unfortunately weather was pretty bad and since this was a longer hike I decided to not risk it, I was pretty disappointed cause this trail was one of my priorities but safety first!
Did a quick stop at Hofskirkja and drove to Fjallsárlón Glacier. I stayed inside the van for a bit cause it was raining and the wind was crazy for a bit but then it calmed down and I went down to the lagoon, amazing views.
Drove to Diamond Beach but unfortunately there was no ice in the beach, after this I drove to Höfn and stayed at the camp there. Unfortunately this was probably my least favorite camp, showers are not included in the price so that was a bummer.
May 22 (East)
First stop was Mount Vestrahorn, you need to pay to enter at the Viking cafe, I get that people sometimes get mad about paying here but I thought it was really worth it, they give you a map with the parking spots and the trails that they have, I visited the viking village which was cool even if it's fake, walked in the black sand beach and saw some wild horses roaming around, after that I grabbed a snack from the Cafe.
Vestrahorn
Drove to Skútafoss. Honestly, this was probably my favorite place in the whole trip, it was simply amazing and I was probably alone for almost 1 hour until another person arrived, words can't describe this place.
Had a stop at Djúpivogur and ate at Við Voginn, then I started the drive to the camp but I made a little stop at Nykurhylsfoss.
Arrived at Camp Egilsstadir, If you are visiting during low season I would recommend to arrive there and then do the reservation, I made a reservation before I arrived and once I was there there was someone else at my spot, I talked with the person in recepetion and for some reason my reservation was not appearing so I had to do it once again and grab another spot. Really good facilities tho!
May 23 (North)
Arrived at Hengifoss. I didn't check my AllTrails app beforehand and the hike was much longer than I expected lol, but it was beautiful.
Drove to Fardagafoss. I was planning on going all through the end but the wind was crazy, so I decided to return mid hike.
Next stop was Stuðlagil Canyon. I recommend doing the East parking to get to the famous spot, when you cross the bridge you need to follow a road that is not paved, it is a little rough but if you are careful you can do it in a 2WD. Once you park you need to walk for a little while, can't remember but I would say it's a 1-2 mile walk to the canyon, and as I mentioned before, wind was crazy this day but I was able to complete it safely, if it was raining tho I would have returned most likely.
Stuðlagil
Drove to camp in Ásbyrgi, really beautiful but this was the most expensive camp I stayed at.
May 24
Woke up a little late so I decided to skip the Ásbyrgi trails and I drove to Dettifoss, you need to be careful here cause Google Maps will have you take road 864 which was closed when I was there, make sure to always check the correct roads in road.is, in this case I took road 862 and arrived with no problems.
Did a quick stop at Hverir, you need to pay for parking and also the smell can get very strong lol.
Drove to Mývatn and visited the Grjótagjá cave, I then drove to Hverfjall volcano, you need to pay parking here. Did the hike to the top and stayed for a bit there, the climb is a little steep but once you are up it's easy to walk.
Hverfjall
Next stop was Goðafoss, parked on the East Side and took some cool pictures, it was a short stop.
Finally started my drive to camp, I had a little scare here cause I had to drive between some mountains and that day it was snowing, I checked the road and a very tiny part of Þjóðvegur had wet snow on it, I decided to try the drive and I arrived safely at camp but it was stressful. Camping Varmahlíð was the one I stayed that night and it was lovely, really friendly stuff and good facilities.
May 25
Drove to Grafarkirkja, you need to open a little gate to access the parking so just watch out for the signals once you are close. I arrived early in the morning so I had the place for myself for like 30 minutes.
Kálfshamarsviti was the next stop, most of the drive to here is done in a gravel road so be careful, the place is very beautiful and there were just a few people when I arrived.
Kálfshamarsviti
Drove to Hvitserkur, long drive but I'm used to them, also a gravel road if I recall correctly, really peaceful place, I went down to the beach, you need to be careful here not to slip.
I was initially planning on staying in Búðardalur tjaldsvæði camping, this one is just on the side of the main road and facilities are kinda lacky and place is kinda small (I can imagine that in summer this gets full really quickly), I was walking around town and found a place called Gil Gesthouse and decided to stay there, it was a lovely stay.
May 26 (Snæfellsnes / West)
First stop was Berserkjahraun, it was rainy and windy so I just made a quick stop and took some pictures.
Went to Kirkjufell, you also need to pay parking here which I didn't know, short stay also due to the weather.
Kirkjufell
Drove to Svöðufoss but I was unable to do the hike since wind was too strong and visibility was bad, I also had to skip a stop at Lóndrangar unfortunately.
Did a little stop at Djúpalónssandur, took some pics and left, was unable to go down to the beach.
Stopped at Arnarstapi, rain stopped fortunately but wind was strong still but it was safe to walk around.
Visited Búðakirkja. I then decided to go back to Kirkjufell since weather got good and wanted to see it with good visibility, made a short stop there and walked around the lake for a bit until the wind made me return to the van.
Camped at Akranes, wind was very strong and it blew the door for the showers.
May 27 (Reykjanes)
Drove to Lake Kleifarvatn and stayed there and walked down for a bit. Visited Krýsuvík and then drove to Valahnúkamöl, really nice stay here, took some good pictures and also visited the Reykjanes Lighthouse.
Valahnúkamöl
I was planning on visiting Blue Lagoon but it was fully booked unfortunately so I decided to drive to Reykjavik once again and booked Sky Lagoon again. Walked around the city again and bought souvenirs for family and friends, ate dinner at Kol which was good but pricey and finally I stayed at the Reykjavik Campsite (make sure to make a reservation before hand cause it gets full).
May 28
Woke up early in the morning and drove to Cheap Campervans to return the van. Return was fast and without any issues and the staff was kind enough to drop me at the AirBnB that I reserved at Reykjanesbær. I mostly stayed there the whole day to rest.
May 29
Flight was scheduled for 9 am so I decided to walk to the airport and just when I was starting my walk a kind person offered me a ride to the airport. Everything went smooth and I returned home.
