I don't actualy own an Hamsters as of right now but I'd like to get one somewhen down the line, probably not in the near future. But I have to ask this question beacause it could be deal breaker for me. Where I live it gets HOT in the summer, and when I meen HOT i meen HOT. At midday we can reach temperatures of 45°C (113°F), and at that time of day I'm always at the beach because otherwise I'll be the one who dies of heatstroke. The alternative it's useing the A/C all the day, but that meens I'll either go broke, because it cost a preatty penny, or crazy, because I can't go the beach, or probably both. So my question is... do the usualy hamster cooling tips last an entrie moring? I usualy leave at around 8AM and I'm back somewhere betwin 12 AM and 1 PM (12:00 to 13:00), sometimes I'm late and I arrive home by 2PM (14:00) but that usualy only happens if there are somekind of unforseen circustances. Ofc they are gona have sand, and bedding, and water and yada yada yada, and I will also put to cooled jars in their enclosure before leaving. I just hope it will last long enought, for me to come back and swap them out.

Hello :) (Warning: not an audiophile:) I just got some Truthear Hexa for listening on the go, but I feel like they don't really sound too fun, maybe it's because I mostly listen to electronic stuff and some rap/hip-hop/the casual The Weeknd :-).
At home I've been using my DT1990 and I really enjoy their lows, I don't need a lot of base but the 1990 just feel like they hit a bit "quicker" and the hexa just feel like they lack that...
If I give the hexa a medium bass boost/vshape using wavelet, they sound MUCH more fun for the music I listen too, but I am not sure if that is the right way as I could also just return them. Don't need an insane quantity of base, but the quality is important to me.
Any recommendations? Should I just use them with a slight bass boosted EQ or get different ones? Please help me I want to get out of the rabbit hole haha My budget is flexible up to ~250€, also open to TWS but imo most look ugly :(
(Unfortunately as these are for on-the-go I do care about the looks - my ears are small AF so a lot of IEMs either have a design I dislike or are too big, but the Hexas look nice IMO)

I decided I’d do his laundry and let him relax for the day. Big mistake. After I make a post bragging about how he’s such a good man he genuinely upsets me and pisses me off. I don’t usually do his laundry. But I have recently started because if it’s a full basket why not wash it? Well I made a big mistake. He comes home from church in a mood.
“I see you did my laundry”… and I reply with “yeah. I just wanted to help. Was I not supposed to?” Then he’s all “I had other stuff I needed washed.. so no” and I say “won’t happen again buddy” and walk off. I’m not speaking to him before work and I’m not speaking to him after work. I feel unappreciated and honestly just upset. All I was trying to do was help. The least you can say is “I appreciate it.” My feelings are hurt. So he will be doing his own grocery shopping. He can cook his own food. And he can take out the trash all on his own. I’ll do for my son and I. Since it’s an issue for me to help him and try to be a good partner. I won’t be doing it. It’s rude. If you don’t want me to wash your clothes just say “I don’t want you to wash my clothes I can do it” and I won’t do it. The attitude was so unnecessary.

We spent six nights in New Orleans. Originally, we booked the Marriott off of Canal but had issues (broken toilet and no additional rooms) and thankfully was able to move across the street to the JW Marriott. It was so much nicer, newer and cleaner (thanks chase!)
Breakfast: Bearcat CBD: Really delicious. Had the cat daddy and the blue crab omelet. Great coffee. ~30 min wait but worth it
Willa Jean: Also very delicious. Had the crawfish roll and shrimp and grits. Lots of crawfish. If I had to nitpick, the shrimp was a little overcooked but still tasty
Beignets (fav to least fav order) 1. Cafe du Monde (French market): crispy, good texture, airy but not too airy, great ratio of powder sugar to beignet. This is what I think of when I think of a beignet. However, I would say the fry is inconsistent. You don’t always get crispy.

1. Loretta’s: I’d describe this more as a toaster strudel style beignet. It’s more flaky. Delicious and crispy. It gets the 2nd spot bc when I think of beignet, I don’t expect flaky.
   
2. Marriot Lounge: This was our dark horse. It was a random beignet we ate in the buffet lounge our first morning. We didn’t even take a picture. It scared us bc we had quite a few beignet duds for the first few days and thought this was our favorite for awhile. Good representation of a pillowy beignet. The sugar to beignet ratio was good. Missing some crispiness.
   
3. Cafe du Monde City Park: We may have gotten a bad batch. Kinda denser and larger holes to the point where there was not much inside. Nice crispy crust though.
   
4. Criollo at the hotel Monteleone:This was another toaster strudel type of beignet. Good but not crispy like Loretta’s.
   
5. Cafe beignet Royal St: this is another example of a pillowy beignet but too much dough to sugar ratio. Tighter crumb. Didn’t feel like eating more than 1.
   
6. The Vintage: I really was looking forward to this one. We may have gotten a bad batch, but it was literally empty inside. Like a shell of a beignet. It was a nice crispy crust though. Maybe would have been better to get a filled one.
   

Mains Willie Chicken Shack: ate this the first night since our flight was delayed. Freshly fried. Really great for late night.
Felix Lakefront: grilled oysters were good. We got a cup of gumbo and it was fine but forgettable.
High Hat: We ate here bc it was near cure. Really delicious. The gulf shrimp was one of our favorite bites from our trip. They make a good pie too.
Cochon: the bread and the sauce from the wood fired oysters was one of our top bites. Oysters themselves lacked some smoky flavor and were a bit overcooked.
Dakar: we went for Wednesday family night. Delicious seafood. Loved it. Went to second vine wine before dinner and they recommended us a great bottle of chenin blanc.
Compere Lapin: I love top chef and Nina but was a bit disappointed. We had to send back the tuna tartare bc it was too salty. I think they cure it. The second one was not much better and lacking acidity. Pig ears were also too salty. Pork belly and fried chicken with coconut grits were great. Could have used some heat. I found the pasta a little fishy but cooked well.
Gris gris: shrimp and grits were delicious. Whole red fish was ok, lacked seasoning, tomato sauce tasted like it came straight from the can. Great espresso martini.
Drinks: Jewel of the south: kinda hit or miss. Drinks were maybe overly complex where it just tasted like a good punch.
Cure: this was our favorite. Interesting and innovative cocktails but also delicious. Would go back.
French 75 bar: had a French 75 and matcha colada. It was good but nothing to write home about.
For gin fizz, we went to bar tonique and bourbon o bar. Bar tonique was better.
Overall, had an amazing trip. We had 120+ bookmarks and only made a small dent. We at so much good food, and loved walking and exploring. This was mostly a food post but just wanted to mention that city park was amazing. The sculpture garden is so good. Can’t wait to come back.

Amber mentioned that in every relationship in the past she and her partner at the time would pool together their money and share it (which I'm suspicious of) but made the point of telling us that her and Faline do NOT do this..
This leads me to believe she is a paid employee, a "home help" if you will. Faline, what's wrong with me? .. JADE must be getting paid a nominal sum on a regular basis. There is no love here and this is not a romantic relationship. Nothing suggests that it is other than Amber's word and Amber's word holds no weight with me and I'm sure pretty much the majority caught up in the Amberverse.

I'm in the very very beginning stages of buying a home. This week I'm going to start talking to realtors and in another week or two I'm going to try to get my prequalification.
I have about $95K saved for all housing costs + $25K emergency fund, but I obviously don't want to use it all on a down payment so I have enough for closing, moving, furnishing, etc. My plan was to use $55K down with a budget of $315K. Which would put me at 17.5% down.
My question is, with a down payment so close to 20% would lenders ever negotiate on PMI? I have no other debt and a 793 credit score.

We’ve had terrible luck with nanny, we’ve gone through 4. It’s our first kid, we didn’t know what to expect. The first three just didn’t work - one was with us 2 months, the second and third 2 weeks each. I struggled wfh while caring for my kid for weeks in between.. now I’m back in office full time. Even if I wfh, I can’t do both. We finally found a great one who had to go back to her home country to help with her mom, and left us a 3 day notice. It took weeks to find care in between last time and I (20wk pregnant) don’t have the energy to go through it again. I’m devastated we lost her, it was a really emotional day for all of us, she had crime family and In 5 months.I don’t want to go through it again or have my kid go through it again. She’s 15mo, I know she won’t remember long run but it’s not fair.
Back in December I told work I needed to make more money or was going to quit bc it didn’t make sense.. they gave me a huge bump. I feel guilty for my colleagues (not the company) for leaving - I really wanted to make it to maternity leave to at least have an honest convo with the nanny about 2kids, Costs etc & with my self about my “career” before deciding but now we need to make a quick decision. I know if we redid our budget we could do it, we live in excess but I’m scared of being a one income household. I am privileged in that I’ve never had to worry about money and for the first time, I’m terrified. My husband is completely on board and he’d prefer me stay home, it’s just scary. And aside from weekends (with My husband) and occasional holidays, I realize I have no idea what a full day with my kid is like alone, then add a newborn. I know I’m not the first or the last to do it but I’m terrified.. just wish I had time and won the lotto.

I m in the army as a sergeant so I don t really have time to do alot of things.After work I go to the gym for mostly 1-2 hours then get home, maybe learn smth new, read etc.But mostly, my gf calls me or just want to talk with me alot.I get it, we are in a semi distance relationship bcs where I work is far away from her(160+ km)so we see eachother once a week or once after 2 weeks(she got strict parents, even if she is 18).But sometimes I got some free days from those 24h duties so I get home and want to game smth, to have some of my free time.But I can t really, she randomly calls me to talk hours with me, ask me to get on discord with her and everything like this.I get it why she does it, I like it, I really enjoy spending some of my time with her, but there are times when I want to be a little alone other than when I m going to the gym.Maybe I wanna reflect on myself an little, maybe I want to binge read smth, maybe I want to play a campaing on a game for some time.Let me give you example:Today she just got home, had to help her mum with some things then she told me she will be to her driving lessons at 4 pm.Aight, hearing this I ve decided to hop on some game and call a friend to play with him and have some good fun.She told me when she comes home she will "stress me out".I was thinking she meant it via text, but she randomly called me.It was unexpected so I asked "what happened, darling?"She told me she wanted yo hear me, I told her I m here for her, but that I just started playing the game I was on with that friend.Asked her if she will get mad if I spend some time on the game and that I ll call her after to talk.She said she won t get upset, but immediately changed her mood, she became distant, cold and didn t tell me what is wrong even if I was asking her what is wrong and even if I was playing the game, I was responding very fast to her messages.Afyer 2 hours of gaming me and that friend decided to log off so I called my gf.She was still upset, I was trying to discover what wrong but she was getting mad for no reason and didn t want to tell me and after some time she went to her driving lessons.Well, before she got home she explained to me that I made her feel like a second option???(how tf bcs I explained her) and she just wanted 10 mins, that it is all she asked.The problem is, if she really asked I wouldn t say no, I would just close the vc with ny friend and talk with her, bcs I know he would have understood the situation and wouldn t be upset of me talking a little with my gf, but she didn t say anything in that call, she said to me to go play the game.We talked on the subject and I told her that there are times when ai want some free time, some me time other than the gym but I would still spend my other free time with her, I even make free time for her when I m busy.She told me that in her "me time" she prefers to talk with me.I get it, but we are 2 different people.I explained her that I spend alot of time with her and I enjoy it, that I love her attention and that I love her, but maybe sometimes I want to do smth else.Maybe when I do smth else, like gaming I still call her, but maybe there are times when I want to game alone or with a friend.Help me.There are other things I want to get some help with, but I ll ask in another post.

There is a major problem here and that is the idea that we need to achieve energy abundance and international cooperation before we get ASI. Essentially, you are saying that if we don't achieve utopia before we get ASI then we are almost certain to get dystopia and extinction. Given that there is an absolutely zero percent chance we get there in the next 20 years and a practically zero chance we get there in the next 100 years, does this mean that the only solution is to completely stop all progress on AI immediately before we reach the typing point where the AI can improve itself?
We are already very close to, and have perhaps already passed, the point at which an AI is capable of being given agency and doing its own AI research. Granted, the most powerful and capable models are affiliated with large companies as they cost a lot to run but both anthropic and OpenAI were small shops before they produced their big model and Google and Microsoft invested in them rather than built them. So it is clear that a small shop can build a powerful AI and we are shrinking these models everyday through better chips and better algorithms. At some point in the very near future you will be able to build an AGI on a system that is affordable for a single household (i.e. costs as much as a house).
If you combine these two ideas, that we need to achieve utopia before we get ASI and that we'll be capable of building ASI (or at least starting it) within the next decade, the only possible solution is to institute a complete ban on computer progress. This would likely also need to be a ban on physics and other science as those can lead to breakthroughs that make computing cheaper and they will need more compute power to continue advancing. A ban this powerful, and world wide, will of necessity be one of the most ubiquitous police states in the world and will rival North Korea. The additional problem is that once you give the government the power to regulate any science or research, including hobbyists, then you have given so much power to the state that corruption is inevitable.
This world, where we stop AI now, is the dystopia we fear. We are proposing to build the very monster we fear in order to save us from itself.
I don't think it is possible to build the utopia until we have the AGI (or something close to it). I look at Marx for this. The economics of a society shape its power system. In a capitalist economy you have a few factors which shape or economy. The first is the division between labor and capital. The tools to produce value are expensive and difficult to obtain. Initially you needed massive factories and tracts of land. This limited ownership to all but the very few. For everyone else to survive, they needed to hitch themselves as laborers to one of these owners.
As time has increased technology has grown to reduce the amount of capital you need to create wealth. The FANG companies were funded by small entrepreneurs with home equipment. They did, however, have to attract large investments to grow. Silicon valley maintains this trend where amazing new tools (and really shitty ones) are created by individuals but that big capital is needed to rev them up. This is why the capitalist system maintains itself.
AGI is extra powerful because it allows a single person to do so much. (This is assuming AGI that is capable of replacing human labor but still needs human initiative.) This becomes more true as we move AI from million dollar super computers into people's homes. The individual will be able to compete on an unheard of level. The Internet tools that we all use will be replicable by any individual. Big investors won't be able to keep up as by the time they finish the paperwork to invest a new competitor has already shot up. Additional advances, like ubiquitous 3D printing, configurable factories, and eventually nano-replicators, will help eliminate the grip of physical manufactures.
As the capability gap between the investor class and the working class shrinks, the investor class will lose their power. A post-scarcity world will emerge, though it will likely involve many bloody conflicts. AGI is a primary tool we need to make this happen and so it, necessarily, must come before the utopia but after it. A hyper intelligent AI will be able to assess the situation and help us navigate towards the better society.
This is why, my theory is that the best method to build a utopian society is to get powerful AI into the hands of as many people as possible.

My grandma died one week ago today at 96 years old. She would have been 97 in September.
She was my best friend and my favorite person. I saw her every week, multiple times a week if I could. I saw her more than anyone else.
She got Covid in March and then pneumonia. Earlier this year she found out she had a type of cancer but it was such a slow growing that realistically she would die of old age/other health issues before the cancer became an issue. But I wonder if that's why Covid hit her so hard. And then the pneumonia.
She had an increase of fluid build up, but there was nothing they could do. At the end of April they put her on comfort care. She qualified for hospice but they thought a diuretic and massaging her legs would help with the fluid build up. The massaging didn't because it had the fluid collect around her heart. She signed a DNR and didn't want any life support/feeding tubes.
Ultimately I suppose she died from heart failure but it doesn't take a genius to see it was due to the complications from Covid. We were all with her when she died and it was very peaceful. It was sudden. I had just seen her two days prior and while she wasn't in the best shape, I never would have guessed she was going to die so soon.
I'm just feeling really angry. I'm angry that no one cares about Covid anymore. I'm angry that the laws changed and you don't need masks in nursing homes. I'm angry that I don't know how safe the rest of my family was being with Covid. I have been hyper vigilant, because of my Grandma and because of me and society.
It just makes me so angry that people say oh well the only people that die from Covid are old. I don't care that she was 96. She was my best friend. And her goal has always been to live to be 100. At one point her doctor thought she would make that easily. She was very proud of her health and how well she took care of herself. It feels like she was robbed of that accomplishment of living to 100 because the US government stopped treating Covid seriously and protecting our most vulnerable.
I tagged this as Covid, but I also could have put vent. I'm not looking for advice. If anyone else is struggling with anger as apart of their grief, especially for Covid related deaths, I'd love to read your stories and feel a little less alone ❤️

I love to collect physical games for my consoles, especially when the full game is actually on the damn physical medium itself. Anyway, I also love backing them up to my PC. Some older CD-based game can easily be ripped using a CD-ROM drive, and older cartridges can be ripped using various devices such as the Retrode 2. More modern games are a little bit trickier to back up thanks to innovative encryption, and require you to stifle the innovation of your console a bit using innovation stifling custom firmware.
I must confess I have sinned on a few occasions. Living in Europe, I never got to experience Mega Man X2 as it was never released here. Unlike the first game, the price for a used copy of the US version of X2 is really high, so I ended up stifling Mega Man X2's innovation from the internet to my EverDrive. Around the same time I was also looking for a fun co-op game on SNES, and was drawn to The Lost Viking. It seemed like a fun innovative puzzle platformer, so I stifled that to my EverDrive as well to try it out. Thankfully I eventually found an innovative cheap copy of this game locally and bought it. I truly stifled innovation here, as Blizzard lets you download the game on PC for free and it includes the SNES ROM.
There was also this one time when I was playing Fallout: New Vegas on my unmodified, unstifled, innovative Xbox 360. After many, many hours, I ran into a bug that prevented a mission from going to the next stage. On PC this is easily fixed by opening the console and typing in a command that forces the mission to go to the next stage. As innovative as Fallout: New Vegas was on the Xbox 360, us console players weren't deemed worthy of opening the console. I solved this by copying my save to PC, loading it on the PC version of New Vegas, and using the console command there. I moved the save back to my 360, ran the game, and loaded up my save to find out it worked. Of course I didn't feel like paying that much money for the PC version just to fix my save, so you can imagine my innovative fix also stifled Steam's innovation. To redeem myself, I did end up buying New Vegas way later in a sale on both GOG and Steam, but in my heart I feel like the innovation was already stifled beyond redemption at that point
So what about you, dear reader? Have you ever stifled innovation as a last resort?

I am a Canadian who just started a job in the US. The job allows me to work from home. I spend two days working in the US office and then work remotely three days in my Canadian home each week. This means I spend around a week only in the US per month. This will be helpful as my family resides in Vancouver Canada and I do not need to rent another place in the US which will double my charges. I mean not paying for two homes/places. I understand that Canada and US have a tax treaty to avoid double taxation, but I am still afraid that my calculations are wrong, and it may be better to get only a job in Canada until my family conditions are improved and I can fully transfer. Is there a way to estimate roughly the total Canadian and US taxes for $200K USD? I got my first pay cheque and I see another high amount FICA+MED. I do not understand it but it seems Fed Tax and FICA+MED are 25%. Note that I pay a $10K health insurance in Canada. I read about 30% flat rate non resident alien. I read about some US ties such as work. I read about that my visa does not need me to live in the US. I read about many CRA issues but I am willing to pay both Canadian and US taxes. I am a law-abiding citizen, and I am totally confused. Any help with the tax amount here? Please help me. I am also willing to pay for a professional advice but I got different answers.

Hello, I’m looking for help finding reliable breeders of German shepherds. There are a ton of options out there but I’m really looking for someone to share reliable and honest breeders or provide tips on how to tell the “good” from the “bad.”
