Hello my lovelies!
Welcome back to our second discussion of Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse. This week we're covering chapters 7-13. Here's a summary of what's happened now:
We jump back in with Serapio, who, 10 years after his mother's ritual, is finally headed to Tova. The intervening years have been hard for Serapio, between his father's neglect and his tutors' cruelty, but he is finally ready to achieve his destiny. Pilgrims have taken him from Obregi to Cuecola, and now Lord Balam has secured him passage to Tova in time for the Day of Convergence.
That morning, Serapio is already on board the ship when the crew arrives and begins to prepare for departure. No one bothers him, but Serapio enjoys the "almost company" as they prepare. Around midday, he hears raised voices and what seems to be a confrontation involving a few men, including Lord Balam. Serapio uses star pollen stored in a bag around his neck to communicate with a nearby crow and allow him to see through its eyes. Through the crow, Serapio sees the crew as they watch the argument between Lords Pech and Balam on the deck. He also sees a woman with radiating power that he recognizes is Teek before she whistles and breaks his connection to the crow, causing him to bleed in the process. Serapio is enamored with her and, as they push off, resolves to get to know the crew and captain during the upcoming journey.
We jump back in time to 8 years before the Day of Convergence. Serapio is fourteen, two years removed from his mother's ritual and death and more or less ignored by his father. One day, as Serapio sits on the terrace feeding and playing with his crows, his father brings a man who claims he will prepare him for his destiny. Serapio replies that he's already aware of his destiny, to be born a crow, and when pressed, reveals the nicknames other crows have given him, such as Grandfather Crow, Nightbringer, and Suneater.
The man confirms that Saaya had arranged for him and two others to train Serapio for his destiny - to become a god. The man hands Serapio a piece of wood and a chisel, explaining that he's going to teach him how to carve. He asks Seraipio a question; Serapio replies with a smart-aleck answer; and then the man strikes Serapio across the face. Before Serapio can call his crows to attack the man, he tells him that he'll hurt them too. The man grabs and strikes Serapio a few more times, telling him that he must become accustomed to pain in order to achieve his destiny, and that it's his responsibility to teach him how. Cowed, Serapio begins to cooperate with the man's questions and instructions. That night, before he leaves, the man tells Serapio he can call him Paadeh. Serapio eventually falls asleep holding the beginning of his first carving - a crow.
19 days before Convergence, Naranpa sits with the other priests during a long Conclave meeting at night. Well, all of the other priests except for Iktan, who Naranpa realized had sent someone in xir place and who slips into the room later during the meeting. Naranpa has spent most of the meeting wondering what Iktan could be doing instead of paying attention, which becomes clear when Haisan asks her if she wants to add anything and Naranpa has to ask him to repeat what he just said. Abah tries to take advantage of Naranpa's lapse in attention, suggesting that it would of course be due to the excitement of the assassination attempt that morning and that it was understandable. She suggests that maybe Eche, the dedicant generally regarded as Naranpa's chosen successor, could step in.
Naranpa refutes this and begins to talk about the assassination attempt plainly, hoping to convey her feelings that it stemmed from the mostly nonexistent relationship between the Celestial Tower and the Sky Made clans and their waning power. Naranpa also suspects that Eche is sleeping with Abah and so the two of them have joined forces together against her. Abah then suggests that perhaps Naranpa's reforms are too ambitious, which is why the assassin targeted her, and that she might be better off stepping down. Abah even goes so far as to suggest that the attempt might be related to Naranpa's family in Coyote Maw, particularly her younger brother. Naranpa bristles at these accusations, even going so far as to tell Abah to fuck off, before deciding that it would be better for her to leave rather than allowing Abah to bait her any further. Before she can leave, a servant arrives with the news that Yatliza, the matron of Carrion Crow, is dead.
This, understandably, makes everyone nervous, given the earlier assassination attempt. Naranpa ends the conclave and dismisses everyone except for the four priest and the servant who brought the news. Naranpa asks the servant to explain the circumstances behind the murder; the servant, confused, explains that Yatliza wasn't murdered, just found dead in her bed, before recounting everything she knew. Naranpa dismisses the servant as Haisan and Iktan begin to bicker about what to do next.
Yatliza's death has come at an inconvenient and some would say inauspicious time. The Celestial Tower has closed for the Shuttering, a 20 day period of fasting and penitence in preparation for the winter solstice and a ceremony welcoming the return of the sun afterwards. At the same time, Yatliza's death will leave one of the Sky Made clans without a matron until a new one is invested, which unbalances the Speaker Council that handles civil affairs in Tova and leaves Carrion Crow without a leader. It will look bad to have a funeral and anointing during the Shuttering, but waiting until after the Shuttering for the anointing will appear disrespectful and leaves the opportunity for other factions to take advantage of the power vacuum and imbalance. On top of all of this, although Yatliza has a daughter who would generally be expected to step in as the next matron it's possible the other council members might have objections.
Naranpa quickly makes up her mind, deciding that they will have a state funeral in four days as usual and that Yatliza's daughter will be anointed as the new matron of Carrion Crow shortly afterwards. They will request that the Sky Made clans come to them to plan everything, since they are shuttered, and if the Speakers Council feels someone else should be matron they can take it up with the Tower after the solstice. Naranpa gives everyone their tasks, mostly to get them out of her hair, and dismisses them before heading up to her rooms. She'll speak to the other clan matrons alone later that day.
Iktan catches up with Naranpa as she reaches her rooms. Naranpa worries about how Abah could know about Ochi (Denaochi), given how she had destroyed references to her past. Iktan explains that if someone went looking to dig up her secrets, it wouldn't be hard to find him. Xe also reassures Naranpa that while Abah did embarrass her during Conclave, she managed to recover well enough, although Abah still cannot be trusted. At this point, Naranpa spots a scratch on Iktan's neck, offering to heal it before she realizes and xe confirms that it came from a "moment of passion" - Iktan has a lover that is not her. Hurt and jealous, Naranpa insults Iktan and xe leaves.
We briefly step back in time one day, back to 20 days before the Day of Convergence. After a hard day of rowing, Xiala directs Callo to have the men land on a nearby cay where they'll rest for the night. She then goes off to see Patu, a sailor known for his cooking skills and habitual seasickness. Xiala is a bit concerned to find Patu sick, but he waves it off, saying it's just a cold and Callo vouched for him. He begins to plan a feast for the men using the very nice provisions Lord Balam stocked the ship with. Xiala leaves Patu to it and heads back to middle of the ship, wondering about the man from Obregi that has yet to emerge from the room. Lord Balam had described him as a kind of religious recluse, which doesn't endear him to Xiala at all. Still, she's willing to do the bare minimum and make sure he's at least seen to during the trip, but before she can talk to the man they land.
By the time Xiala gets off the ship, the men are well into the feast Patu has prepared. The food is good, the liquor is flowing, and everyone is having a good time. The men greet Xiala happily, chanting "Teek" a few times, which is a little unsettling, but Xiala brushes it off and joins the meal. After eating and a couple of drinks, Xiala addresses the crew to break the news about Lord Balam's requirement of reaching Tova in 20 days. A number of them worry, since making the timetable would require them to sail in open waters during a particular dangerous season. Oddly enough, Callo is the one who speaks in Xiala's favor, asserting that Xiala's Song will help smooth their passage. This isn't really how Xiala's powers actually work, more of a superstition around how they supposedly work, but she decides to lean into and play up her Teek heritage. The crew latches onto the idea, even chanting "Teek" over and over again in their enthusiasm, and making bold claims about reaching Tova in even less time. While Xiala is grateful that the crew is eager to sail the open waters to achieve their goal, she is a bit nervous that they all rallied behind Callo's support. She can't help but wonder what will happen in the future if she and Callo disagree on a decision.
Xiala speaks to Callo privately, directing him to cut off the alcohol soon and make preparations to leave tomorrow. Xiala usually sleeps on the ship while the crew is on land; although she's worried about the crew bonding in her absence, she decides to trust Callo in this instance. Before she can finish her instructions and head to the ship, Callo pales at something behind her, and the crew grows quiet.
We know that earlier that day, Serapio enjoyed just generally being around the crew as they left Cuecola. When they initially landed, he stayed on the ship but, after hearing the sounds of the crew and captain as they ate, Serapio decides to try to join them. So he covers his eyes, pulls his cowl up, and slowly makes his way to where everyone else. As the others see him appear, everyone stops. The (anachronistic) record scratches. You can hear a pin drop. Serapio says hello in stilted Cuecolan and smiles at everyone, until he remembers his teeth are red and stops smiling because that's probably not helping right now.
Xiala tries to be polite and respectful, hoping to lead by example, but the crew is definitely scared of him. Even when Callo gets a plate of food for Serapio, he stands back and holds it out as if he's afraid to get any closer. Frustrated, Xiala takes the food and Serapio back to the ship, reminding Callo to have the others ready to sail at dawn. Once on the ship, Xiala and Serapio get to know each other as Serapio tries a bunch of new foods, including a painful-to-read experience with eating fish. Serapio confirms that he can see somewhat, mostly shapes, shadows, light, and movement, relying on other senses for everything else (and the crows, though he doesn't mention that). Xiala confirms that she is Teek, and the both of them acknowledge the precariousness of the whole voyage, particularly in terms of Callo's popularity with the crew. As she gets ready to leave, Xiala tells Serapio to go outside tomorrow morning to let the crew see he was just a man like them, albeit with his eyes covered. She explains that she'll sleep on the ship and be there to protect him if a superstitious crew member decides to kill him that night. When Serapio asks who will protect her, Xiala replies that she's with her mother, the sea, and no one messes with her children.
We close with Serapio, 6 years before the Convergence. He's sitting at his workbench when a strange woman enters his room, admiring his carvings. She says that Paadeh sent for her, although she doesn't seem to know that Paadeh is dead, a fact Serapio isn't eager to share for some reason. The woman introduces herself as Eedi, the second tutor arranged to prepare Serapio for his destiny. Eedi is purposefully evasive, but she generally reveals that she's a former spearmaiden from Hokaia. This confuses Serapio a bit, since Carrior Crow is from Tova, but she reassures him that their influence is great and that some in Hokaia would like to see the Celestial Tower brought to heel as well.
Suddenly, Eedi asks Serapio if he would like to begin before striking him with her spear. She manages to hit him again before he blocks her strike, at which point she walks over to his shelf of carvings and knocks them all onto the ground. Panicking, Serapio tries to grab at Eedi and stop her but bumps into other things or gets knocked out of the way. Eedit keeps knocking carvings onto the floor, threatening to destroy his trunk and even break her bones. Serapio stops to think; it's clear he'll have to outsmart her rather than overpower her. When he puts his hand on the desk, he touches the divination mirror his mother used to use. Serapio uses the mirror to throw a shadow at Eedi, and then some of his carvings when she's distracted by that. He bumrushes Eedi, knocking her to the ground, then tries to attack her with the chisel but misses. Serapio then tries to rip out Eedi's eye, but she manages to knock him off of her before leaving in search of a healer.
Eedi eventually returns, asking Serapio how he knew how to use shadows like that. He replies that he doesn't know; it was just instinctual. Eedi tells him that her job is to train his body, in the way that Paadeh trained his mind. His third tutor, Powageh, will deal with his powers; until then, Eedi will teach him how to fight.

I've been on clomipramine for about 3 x years at 150mg/day and have taken a good amount of time to come down to 10mg eg over 6 x months.

This might be a long one, please bare with me.
I work at Walmart in small-ish town in British Columbia. I have been there since November, 2022. My availability is all day everyday. When I started I was getting 37 hours a week. I know it was busy season, so that was probably why. But After the holidays I was still getting 35-37 a week. Which was great! The last couple months, my hours started going down from the 35-37 a week, to where this week I have 17 hours and next week I have 16.50. For context I am a cashiesco attendant and also work on the Customer Service Desk. In the last few months seems almost every shift I come in, there are 1 or 2 new people (I am not over exaggerating) I asked if I could get more shifts and the response I got was “ there aren’t any extra ones” if you don’t have shifts available for the people who have been here longer and have open availability why keep hiring? If they need to hire (which we don’t need any new front end staff) simply say these are the hours I have available. I don’t think it’s fair to take hours away from the people who have been there longer.
On the customer service desk, when I started aside from the CSMs there are 3 full time staff members. In January myself and another coworker got asked if we would like to work on the desk as well. We have 1 full time who lady who has a set schedule Monday- Friday 7am-3. Another lady who worked 4 times a week and another lady who does the rest of the shifts as well as she is a CSM. Now the ASM for the front end has asked ME to train 4 others on the desk(who are fairly new) I had to bite my tongue because what I wanted to say and probably should of was “why should I train them when mine and the the 3 other ladies on the desk hours are being cut?” I have absolutely no problem training people, but now I’m starting to get fed up with it, because each person I train is basically taking a shift away from me and others.
I guess my question is, should I talk to the store manager because I honestly don’t think she knows or understands how bad it is getting up front. I tried talking to my ASM and it was basically attitude I got from her and in one ear and out the other. I really like working at my store. But it’s starting to get ridiculous. My ASM micro manages so bad to the point where she either stands at the front, or at the back of the tils and watches all of us for hours on end. She won’t answer Parked calls for ASMS or deal with customer inquiries or complaints. She also only cares about the Mastercards, and if we get to the goal or not. Doesn’t care about the customers just as long as we hit the goal, if we hit the goal, she wants double the goal etc… doesn’t matter if we are good with the customers, get donations or recovery. Hiring every person who comes thru the door, and Mastercards is the most important to her. I will also add I am not the only person who’s fed up and hours are being cut substantially.

So I’ve been keto for 16 weeks. Ive been strictly below 20 grams of carbs the entire time. I consume 1300-1500 calories daily.
Everything has been fine, I’ve learned to adjust. However, going into week 16 I’ve been having diarrhea for 3 days. That’s not even the worst part. I also can’t eat. No matter what I do I’m not hungry. I cook for my family and I’m nauseated by the thought of food. Today I forced myself to eat rotisserie chicken and some sugar free yogurt. I literally only had a few bites. Less than 200 calories. Yesterday I only ate 500 calories. Wtf.
Im scared and I want to eat and I just can’t. When I do eat, I just immediately have diarrhea. It’s been 3 days!
What do I do 😩 anyone else experience this?

I am 22(transfemale) and I have a boyfriend (trans male->nonbinary, important later on) who recently celebrated their 22nd birthday as well.
We have known each other existed since 1st grade, became friends in 3rd grade, and then closer friends in 6th.
A lot of his other friends left him in middle school, and I was one of the 2 who stayed with him when he came out in 8th grade. I even got my parents to use his right name and pronouns, which I personally thought was impressive, as I and my three older siblings (now 26 nonbinary, 25m, 23f)grew up going to church (Salvation Army I'll go more into it later on.)
I kind of...knew I wasn't cis/straight throughout most of highschool, but considering my parents (who are now 55f and 70+m, honestly i stopped keeping track at 60) I didn't really look too deep into it.
My now bf, who was just a friend at the time, took me to a Queer Prom when we were in grade 11, where I dressed in a suit, with a women's blazer, heels, and makeup. I hated the fake nails but loved everything else. We went again the next year when we were in grade 12, and I brought my actual Prom Suit from highschool to the Queer one as well. I enjoyed the Queer one more.
It was about 2 years ago that I realized I wanted to be a girl. I looked back on myself and my childhood, which I'll briefly name some of the things that should have tipped me off;
• I liked wearing clear coat glitter nail polish, one sunday morning when I put some on myself and my mom noticed she said we didn't have time to buy nail polish remover, and come home to take it off. So she made me wear gloves, we bought remover from the store, and then she took me into the women's bathroom to remove it myself as she yelled at me to hurry up. • I loved watching the Disney princess movies growing up. Animation over gritty live action any day. • A lot of tv shows I liked were actually geared more towards girls (Atomic Betty, Kim Possible, Totally Spies, Ruby Gloom) or the ones I did like watching that were for boys (Martin Mystery, Hot Wheels, Johnny Test, Foster's Home) I always enjoyed the female characters more. At the time I thought it was crushes, but what I was actually feeling was an aspiration to look like them. I always thought they were pretty and had fun personalities. But not ones I wanted to date, ones I wanted to have. •Up until puberty struck, I had one guy friend and then almost entirely a female friend group.
I can make another post entirely about my teenage years, but moving forward to living alone in 2021 I realized I was transgender. I wanted to be a girl. I told my friends who all supported me. I supported my oldest siblings, when they came out in 2022. They even privately talked to me about it and thats when I slipped out and told them about me. This was also when that long, LONG time friend and I started going out. We dated like three different times throughout the school year but both wanted to be serious for this one.
In 2023 I came out fully to everyone on my birthday. Coworkers, Boss, All my friends, family. Everyone said they were happy for me. But my parents still use my old name and pronouns. My dad I sort of written off, all my siblings think he's going senile anyway, so...I personally think getting him to do it is a lost cause, but my mother is the same way. Using female pronouns for my oldest siblings. However, I assumed because she changed and used the proper name and pronouns for my boyfriend then she would do the same for me, right?
We just had a talk today, where she asked how long we were dating, me and my boyfriend. Because she wanted to compare when I came out (to her, I came out this year but realized well before now) with when I started dating. Note that, this isn't my first significant other either, I just never told her about all my other ones. Another story for another day but my mother loves to know everything even if it requires invading personal space and privacy.
...she just wants her "sweet innocent boy to come back to her", she wants me her obedient quiet child to never speak up or voice my opinion. I moved out. I only interact with my mother for holidays and because of a family plan phone bill (40$ a month for me, 4GB and unlimited texting and calling), but this just feels...so invalidating. They think my boyfriend who I've known forever is taking advantage of me and using me for my money, which is not true. My boyfriend gets uncomfortable whenever I pay for meals or gifts for him. It's true he has a bit of a money issue, it's because of health problems and only getting 2 shifts a week at his work, to pay for gas, rent from parents, and medication. I have more disposable income than he does, so I pay for more dates. It's that simple. I only interact with my dad whenever I can't get a taxi to work and I pay him about 4$ for that. I have no license or car. I actually just applied to get a credit card a week ago, one step closer to getting my phone off the parent's bill.
I just feel...invalidated. I've felt it a bit through my life from my parents, but knowing that they don't see me for who I am or who I'm comfortable being, and instead want the child they know back, the child that was in the closet, didnt speak up, the personality I made so they wouldn't question me.

Since graduating high school, I have always wanted to work remotely from home - preferably with a flexible schedule - to earn some decent income and assist my aging parents. I live in a small rural town that offers very little in terms of job growth or sufficient income that could help my parents pay their bills. All jobs in my area are minimum wage(I live in Washington State, so the minimum wage as of this current date is $15.74,) And with the cost of living rising,(not to mention it being exacerbated by current inflation) my parents struggle more each day.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, I tried starting my own Amazon(arbitrage) business. Retail arbitrage was a bust, so I went with FBA, only to learn that the market was too overly saturated with competition, and the seller fees made it nearly impossible to earn a profit(not to mention too many item category restrictions.) I tried dozens of online programs, videos, and tips to make it work, but to no avail. I put two years of hard work into Amazon, trying to create my own private-label brand with no success. Again, oversaturation. This venture cost me thousands of dollars with zero ROI.
Next, I tried flipping used valuable items on eBay, Mercari, and finally, Facebook marketplace for over a year by wasting hundreds of dollars on items and ads only to have a few sales a month. Mercari is a total bust, with current listings sitting on their site for over a year. I've made a few sales on eBay, but more people are on the E-commerce bandwagon more than ever. Compared to ten years ago, more sellers in today's market have really upped the competition. Most sales on eBay or Facebook marketplace consist of buyers throwing lowball offers at me-eg. A good-quality jacket listed for $150 is determined by comparing prices with other sellers or apps. A potential buyer comes at me with an offer saying, "Will you take $25 for it instead?"
My last-ditched attempt at selling anything online was drop shipping. I put a lot of time and energy into drop shipping while I was simultaneously learning Amazon and then eBay arbitrage. I watched tons of YouTube videos on this and sought out the best marketing strategies, only to lose even more money.
Since I am unable to sell anything online, are there any other possible job opportunities out there that are not over-saturated? Maybe I can't run my own business at home, but are there any online opportunities that offer remote work with decent pay and don't require big college degrees? Is there anything online or at home that does not involve e-commerce? Any ideas would be really helpful. Thank you.

I need advice on this situation AND your definitions of pressuring. btw I have nothing against people who smoke, I just personally don't want to myself especially because I have asthma and a heavy family history of cancer.
My husband and I were at a bonfire with my friends and one of my friends took a cigarette out of the box. she knows I don't smoke, and never have. she said "smell this" and I sniffed it. my husband said "you should try it" and I said "no" and was very surprised and at first thought maybe he was joking. he knows I am personally against smoking and I've told him in the past I would never do it. Again he said "come on, you should try it." I said nope. he said "try it" and I said no. For a fourth time he said "just try it" and I said NO.
Later on our drive home I told him "I can't believe you were trying to pressure me to smoke." he said he wasn't pressuring me. I said you kept telling me I should repeatedly even though I kept saying no. you told me 4 times that I should do it and I kept saying no. He then proceeds to once again say he thinks I should do it and there's no harm in trying. I told him I have asthma and I'm a health conscious person, and I will never smoke, and he knows that. and he said I should try it just once. I asked him why he wants me to and said see you're pressuring me. We ended up getting into an argument.
By the time we got home it was a lot worse and we were fighting about it. He was very adamant that he wasn't pressuring me and his definition of pressuring would be if he kept going on and on about it for a long time. To me he was because he kept telling me I should despite me repeatedly telling him no. I told him the fact that he's trying to get me to smoke when I have asthma and am against smoking personally, to me it feels like he does not care about me. he does not respect my decision to never smoke and he wants me to do something that is bad for my health. he said it's not bad if I only do it once and I can't get addicted from taking one puff. one of my exes did though, he smoked one time while drunk then ended up craving it and became a heavy smoker.
I'm really upset that he is acting like this and it blows my mind that he's completely denying that this was him pressuring me, and he still sees nothing wrong with it and he thinks it shouldn't bother me like this. He says he thought I would want to and gives the reason that he thought I was saying no "for a different reason" than not wanting to and that he thought I would want to do it. This is ridiculous because I have told him multiple times in the past that I have never and will never smoke. He now says he thinks I should to confirm that I don't want to. the way I see it is it goes one of 2 ways. I smoke and don't like it and now I've done something I'm against which I didn't want to do anyway, or 2, I do it and I get addicted. Both are stupid ideas to me.
He still does not think that what he has been doing qualifies as pressuring me, even though he continues to say I should, because he thinks the definition of pressuring is to keep pestering me about it for days. to me it's telling someone to do something despite repeatedly being told no.
it deeply bothers me that he's being like this and I feel like he doesn't care. something else that bothers me too is his reactions (rather lack thereof) to my emotions. I got all upset and started crying because fighting got so frustrating and my husband never shows emotion, he doesn't cry. he will very rarely pretend cry and make a weird face but there are zero tears, his face is completely dry and his eyes are dry, and I tell him stop fake crying. and he will say "I think it feels like I'm crying" He's not and I've NEVER seen anything like it in my life, it's really concerning to me and I'm not sure what can cause someone to have the inability to cry. He's generally a pretty monotone person and when I crack jokes I'm used to other people I know and have known in the past laughing but he rarely laughs, sometimes it feels like I'm talking to a brick wall. :( I'm just honestly concerned he doesn't care about me and I don't understand his behavior. Any advice please? :(

Like I said, let me cook and hear me out. Carti album probably started being made in the day his last tweet was made. In December 25 of 2022. The day of the infamous tweet of:
“love all my supporters it’s time”

lately we have had a problem with our ac unit. It just can't keep the house cool. We change and clean all the filters inside and out. The unit is only a few months old. Tonight i turned it off and opened a window and that the first the house as been below 78 in days. Then i noticed something i would turn it on and the air speed coming out of the vent is great until the ac turns on then it plummets to almost no air flow.

I'm back with another post. Despite the cyber attacks I've been getting from butthurt marketing agency owners, I'm still giving out free knowledge. In fact, I'm a bit fired up today. So I’m going to sit here in front of my computer for the next 2 hours and come up with something good.
Last week, I showed you how you can make your first 10 sales without spending anything on marketing. 2 weeks ago I showed you exactly what I did to bring in an extra 2.5 million in sales (without paid ads) for a brand that already had good traction. This post is for everyone in the middle. It’s for the guys that aren't quite at that 7 figure stage yet but aren't rookies either.
It’s so easy to live and die in the 20k-75k range for a handful of reasons. Your bills are paid, your margins are cool and you have a system that works. Of course, you want to scale, but that fire you had when you started just isn't as hot as it used to be.
Think of customers as heat, and your business is fire. This post is made to be the gasoline. You can pour a little bit of gasoline on your fire and your flame will jump. Instant but temporary heat. But consistently doing the 3 things that I’m going to mention below is like dumping an endless supply of gasoline in your fire pit. Eventually, you'll end up with a fire so big that it will probably spread and grows on its own. You can build a heat source that never dies.
Here are 3 things you can do to double the lifetime value of your customers:

1. Order Personalization - I’ll start here because most people underestimate how important it is to make people feel like you care about them. A personal touch goes a long way. It's important to connect with customers on a personal level. I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again. You sell as a person, not as a business. I'll give you an example of exactly how to do this.
   So I have a client that sells niche-specific hats. He went from his customer service email inbox being filled with order-specific questions to an inbox full of people telling him how much they love his brand. He didn't change his products, he didn't fix his slow shipping times but he did start writing handwritten messages and putting them in the boxes of as many orders as he can. This alone can literally double your customer's lifetime value if you do it right. The message needs to be personal. You know where they live, you know what they bought, and you know their names. That’s more than enough information.
   

Here’s an example of what you can write (product in example: golf hats):
“Thank you sooooo much for another order Mike, I’m so grateful for your support. Good luck at your next Golf Game!”
21 words, 30 seconds of writing, You just guaranteed that this guy will either purchase again or refer a friend to your brand.
P.S. People love messy handwriting. It just feels more real. You’d be surprised by how many people will message you saying they’ve never received a handwritten note with something they bought online in their life.
There are a lot of ways to personalize orders. But I hope that example gave you the jist of what I’m trying to say. You personalize the order in a way that makes the customer feel special. They should know that their order is different from everyone else order.

1. Rewards programs/Ambassador programs- This is very simple. Humans are dopamine addicts, we don't do anything unless it makes us feel good. Fuel your customer's dopamine addictions by rewarding them for giving you their money.

“Congrats! You just spend $400 on my store, here are 40 reward points equivalent to 40 cents that you can use toward your next order!” This sounds insanely stupid when you put it this way. But people will use the fact that they have some type of personal credit or discount as an excuse to buy from you again. Just seeing points being loaded onto their account is an instant dopamine hit. It's like leveling up in a video game. The achievement is pretty much worthless, but it cost you something so it has value to you.

1. Post-purchase follow-ups - Your repeat customers help you pick up momentum without you spending more money on new traffic. On smaller stores, you can have 1-2 customer thank you flows. On some of the bigger stores I work with, we’ve built 6 of these flows. Yes, 6 automated post-purchase email flows. Every time someone buys, the language you use when you communicate with them slightly changes. People who purchase once should know how much you appreciate them. If they purchase 2 times, they should know that they are so close to becoming a VIP and that it's in their best interest to buy again. People who purchase 3x are VIP customers and they should know and be rewarded. People who purchase 4x+ should get even more perks and maybe even a gift. Make sure to implement a survey in the later flows to find out why your repeat customers keep coming back. 9/10 times they will have a personal reason like “You guys actually reply to my customer service emails” or “You guys keep giving me gifts with all my orders” or “I’ve seen the founder come a long way, I love the products and I want to support the company.”

Think of the first sale as your customer entering a new sales funnel. Now you get to persuade them into making more purchases by making them feel appreciated and special. Why would anyone buy from your competition when they are already VIP customers with you? Just the idea of not knowing what the reward will be after they make another purchase is enough for someone to make a purchase with you again. Make the reward for making a purchase unpredictable. They should have no idea if they're going to get a freebie, a discount, or a virtual high-five when they place an order. But, no matter what, they should know that they are appreciated.
I’ll end this by talking about one of my favorite shows; Shark Tank. I always remember how excited Kevin O’leary became when a business owner came in and told him that their average customer converts twice in a 90-day period after the initial acquisition. He essentially told the entrepreneur that if he could sustain this trend he’d never go broke. This has pretty much lived in the back of my head ever since I watched it. I have no clue what episode it is, or what business it was but it's ingrained in my mind. It’s an undoubtable sign of a really good business.
If you have other ideas about how to increase customers lifetime value I encourage you to share them. These are just 3 examples that I’ve seen work in real life but the possibilities are endless when you connect with your customers on a emotional level.

What is ashwagandha?
