antique silverware
Probably not worth much, but we will see. A bunch of mismatched silverware that I have. I have never used this sub before, so please let me know if I’m doing something wrong. The backs of the silverware vary by what they say, but I can provide what some of them say.
Most of them say “crown silver plate” but some of them say “Wm A Rogers”.

Edit: a couple of the pieces say “Monroe Silver Co.”, “Rogers Nickel Silver”, And “Crosby Silver Plate”

Respect Robbie Reyes, the Ghost Rider!

"I just won your stupid hell race by showing you that a Ghost Rider doesn't have to ride alone. That maybe it's best when we don't. Because amid all the hellfire and penance and racing to beat the devil, it's family that keeps us sane."

Robbie Reyes is the latest in a long line of Ghost Riders, but one thing makes him very different. Typically, a potential Ghost Rider makes a deal with the devil and as a result, they are bound to a Spirit of Vengeance and become a Ghost Rider. That's not the case with Robbie Reyes.
In order to help feed himself and his disabled kid brother Gabe, Robbie competed in an illegal street race in Hillrock Heights, CA. Unfortunately, the race was busted up by the cops and Robbie found himself chased down. He gave up, expecting to be arrested, but was instead gunned down by the mercenaries that were actually responsible for the bust. That would have been the end of the story were it not for the spirit of Eli Morrow, Robbie's uncle and a deranged, Satan-worshipping serial killer. Eli had been haunting the car, and when Robbie died Eli possessed his body and brought him back to life, complete with new Ghost-Rider-adjacent powers indicative of Eli's connection with Hell. Robbie's willpower and good nature battled with Eli's bloodlust and unhinged personality for quite some time, making it difficult for Robbie to act as a Ghost Rider.
Later on, Robbie found himself embroiled in a conflict between a thrown-together group of Avengers and Loki commanding a bunch of nigh-unstoppable Celestials. Despite feeling way out of his league, Robbie fought alongside Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and others to defeat them, and ended up being the newest (and youngest) member of the reformed Avengers.
During his time with the Avengers, Robbie felt as though Eli had left him at some point (and in fact, he had recently gotten a proper Spirit of Vengeance as a replacement), but before he could get a handle on his powers, Robbie was corrupted by minions of the Shadow Colonel and was used as a pawn against the Avengers, during which time Robbie was trapped in his own personal hell inside his mind. While trapped there, he called out to anyone to help him escape, which drew the attention of Johnny Blaze, the newest King of Hell. After racing and defeating Blaze for the possession of Robbie's Spirit of Vengeance, Robbie accepted his role as a proper Ghost Rider and remains with the Avengers to this day.
Not bad for a street kid from East LA.

Feat Legend / Scaling Context

The following Respect Threads are linked here for convenience as Robbie in some way fights them or scales to one or more of their stats. Please refer to the links below to help figure out how good one of Robbie's given feats is in this context.
I'll also be marking the sources for each feat, using the following shorthand. Mouse over each link to see where the feat comes from.
  • A18: Avengers (2018)
  • AF: Avengers Forever (2021)
  • AN: All-New Ghost Rider (2014) - This is the origin story for 616 Robbie Reyes, and as such is generally his earliest showings (there is a ten-month timeskip near the end).
  • GR16: Ghost Rider (2016)
  • ML: Marvel Legacy (2017)
  • Race: Ghost Racers (2015) - This is an AU, but Robbie seems to remember some of it in 616 later on, making it questionably canon.
  • UG: The Unbelievable Gwenpool (2016)
  • War: War of the Realms (2019)
If an appearance only comes with one or two feats, I'll just list the full name in the mouseover. In all cases, generally the first link in the feat will have the tag.
Additionally, I've included a few tags for feats that are notably above or below what Robbie is typically capable of. [Limit] tags show limits or anti-feats that explicitly show Robbie or the Hell Charger failing to do something, and [Outlier] tags show feats I personally feel are wildly above what Robbie is typically capable of without some form of buff.
Finally, [Other] refers to when someone else has borrowed or stolen either the Hell Charger or Robbie's power, such as when Moon Knight takes it for Khonshu during Avengers 2018.

Robbie Reyes

A note on lethality: early on, Robbie is tempted by Eli to kill, but restrains himself and fights to incap instead, turning over his captives to the cops. The temptation is strong, however, and soon Robbie makes a deal with Eli that he'll kill the wicked to sate Eli's bloodlust, but only the truly wicked. When he joins the Avengers, he generally becomes a hero like Cap or She-Hulk, broadly fighting at full strength but rarely killing his foes unless they're random monster mooks. Later on, he becomes more brutal towards his enemies, but still generally seems to keep them alive so he can Penance Stare them instead.

Ghost Rider Abilities

Chains
Like other Riders, Robbie can control his chains and make them grow to ridiculous lengths. They can also occasionally have hooks, blades, or other weapons on the ends.

Teleportation
Penance Stare
When Robbie had Eli Morrow as his Spirit, he never had or used Penance Stare. When Eli left and Robbie got a proper Spirit of Vengeance, however, his latent Ghost Rider abilities were unlocked and he began to use Penance Stare.
Vehicle Transformation
Ghost Riders are able to transform any vehicle they ride into a flaming, empowered version of itself, and Robbie is no exception.

The All-Rider

Late into his Avengers run, Robbie is transported to Earth-818 along with a Deathlok who had come to warn the Avengers of an incoming multiversal threat. The Deathlok was one of many to mention that Robbie was destined to become something called the All-Rider, or the Ghost Rider of all Ghost Riders.
While Ghost Riders can turn any conventional vehicle into a ride, the All-Rider can control any vehicle, including things that aren't conventionally seen as vehicles.
As Robbie awakens the powers of the All-Rider, the Hell Charger seems to grow as well. From this point forward, the Hell Charger has the ability to traverse timelines freely. Since these abilities seem intertwined with the All-Rider powers, I'm including them in the same section.

Physicals

Strength
Striking
Lifting / Pulling / Other
Durability
Regeneration
Robbie has always had good durability, but typically did not possess the regeneration most Ghost Riders have. When he first got shot to death and was healed by Eli Morrow his wounds vanished, but that was a one-time thing and Robbie wouldn't have been resurrected twice. When he unlocked his All-Rider powers, this changed.

Robbie's Ride: The Hell Charger

Like most other Ghost Riders, Robbie transforms his vehicle (often in an explosion of hellfire) into a powered-up Ghost Rider version of itself. Unlike most other Ghost Riders who prefer motorcycles, Robbie drives some good old fashioned American Muscle.

Supernatural Abilities

Hellfire
Chains
Intangibility
Robbie can control the tangibility of his car and move through it at will.
Traveling
As far as I can tell, there isn't anything the Hell Charger can't drive on.
Demonic Physiology
Teamwork
Robbie and/or Eli can command or control the car to move independently of Robbie's actions, allowing them to tag team opponents and attack in unexpected ways.
Other Abilities

Physical Traits

  • Chulk describes the car as going up to 6000 horsepower
    • Here's a couple videos on how horsepower works (it helps determine how much force the Hell Charger can output and how fast it can go): 1, 2. For reference, most Formula 1 cars hit around 750 horsepower, most Nascar cars are typically in the 800-900 horsepower range, and the Koenigsegg Jesko which can reach around 300 mph (482 km/h) has about 1600 horsepower at its best. At the high end, Top Fuel drag racers can wield up to 11,000 horsepower in a few brief seconds of acceleration.
    • Amadeus is known for doing mathematical calculations of pretty much everything, so he's a fairly reliable character for this.

Durability
While generally comparable to a normal car, the Hell Charger can spontaneously repair any damage at any time.

2023.03.15 10:57 responsibeelman Is Roger Waters Antisemite?

I saw a tweet by Polly Samson calling Roger Waters a antisemitic to the rotten core. Also a Putin apologist and a lying, thieving, hypocritical, tax-avoiding, lip-synching,misogynistic, sick-with-envy, megalomaniac. I went through his twitter and He seems to be advocate for Palestine as he mentions Isreal in almost 20 percent of his tweets. Which is fine.
But just a little scrolling got me to this tweet where he tried to connect Judaism with violence. Basically it was a violent person and he wrote "This disgusting barbarity is based on a religious belief (Judaism) ? Tell me it's not true!" . It is not clear but definitely he is kinda gaslighting. He is supported by the most vile anti semetic people too. What do you think about him?
His concert was cancelled in Franfurt and he was called one of the world's most popular anti-semite.

2023.03.05 19:24 Reggash About UNISG

There are some misconceptions about the cut "UNISG" faction among the community, which probably arose from a rather incomplete description on the English wiki page and by their depiction in the Anomaly mod. I'd like to give some more info about the subject.
Origins
First of all, the common statement about them being featured in build 3120 of Clear Sky is wrong - the official test build 3120 (compiled in 2007 and leaked in 2008, few months before the release of the game) doesn't feature the intro sequence with Scar leading the group - resources used to assemble it were leaked separately and only then 'hooked up' to the B3120, which resulted in creation of unofficial, 'extended' version of it, which was released to public in 2010.
With that out of the way, we can focus on what info about that group we actually have.
Design documents
In two design documents for Anarchy Cell (the original name of the prequel, used in desdocs before being changed to Clear Sky) from 2006 there are descriptions of the intro sequence featuring the game's protagonist leading a group of United Nations researchers.
Main character-mercenary leads the group of UN scientists to a strange place in the Zone where common nature decrees are not working – the walls are corroded, the huge stones are in the air, the ground is filled with anomalies. When the group comes closer to this place the Blowout starts. The mercenary loses his consciousness and sees strange dreams about monolith and a pillar of energy that goes from the NPP into the sky.
source
And that's all. It seems that developers didn't intend for this group to have a major role in the plot of the game.
Resources
This is where it gets more interesting. Besides the two NPC models for the group, some voice phrases were recorded, which were supposed to be used in the intro sequence. Here is the assembled (and unfinished) sequence itself, from the extended build.
Transcript:
- Base, this is Delta. Going to the assigned square.
- Delta, roger that. Proceed to the second phase.
- Well, mercenary, didn't expect the UN to venture so far?
- It's not much to enter the Zone - you also have to leave it.
*second group approaches*
- Commander, we have found a safe passage!
- Let's move! Be extremely careful!
There are more voice lines in the resources, but they are not used in this WIP sequence. The finished sequence would include an attack of snorks, after which the group would move towards the spatial bubble (its presence is mentioned in the second desdoc) and start taking measurements - only to be interrupted by the Large Emission.
Summary
As we can see, there is not much info about the faction available. However, the thing which motivated me to make this post is its name. The name International Scientific Group is never used - neither in the descriptions from desdocs nor the voice phrases. The group is simply referred to as UN or ООН/OON in Russian, even in files.
The ISG comes from a rather obscure detail which most probably wouldn't even notice in the game itself - it's written on the leather breast-pocket on the texture used by the UN group models.
So, saying that "UNISG" is a cut faction is an exaggeration. Both the name and lore of the group which you can find in the Anomaly mod is pure fan-fiction.
Mentions in the games
Even though the original intro sequence was scrapped, there are still mentions of UN in the games.
In Clear Sky, mercenary Hog mentions an expedition of UN that was sent into the Zone:
There are always developments in the Zone, and they're always interesting. I already told you about Monolith - they're on everybody's tongue... Have you heard about a new major expedition into the Zone? Technically, they're environmental researchers from the UN, but that's just on paper. Sure, they got a couple four-eyed scientists, but just one look at all the others tells you they're seasoned fighters. No idea why they're here. Oh, and dig this: they're not using guides. Either they're being guided by satellite, or their mission is so secret that no one else could be let in on it. They seem to be approaching the Radar. I dunno how this will end, but I got a feeling it won't be pretty.
In Call of Pripyat, Nimble mentions that UN observers were a source of western assault rifles which he may deliver when asked for such weapon:
Here it is - GP37, a new-generation assault rifle. Accurate, reliable, and convenient with a built-in optical scope. It was previously owned by a UN observer. Their group was sent to the Zone to investigate. However, the situation turned for the worse...
Just a sec. Here's a modular FT-200M rifle, the brainchild of Belgian gunmakers. Accurate, all-purpose, handy for both righties and lefties, comes with an optical scope and a grenade launcher. I got it from some unlucky UN observers...
These mentions confirm that UN presence is canon, which dispels a common lore myth - that the Ukrainian government blocks access to the Zone for other countries, and that the western governments are forced to rely on mercs to get an insight into it.
It is possible that we will see more western influence and perhaps actual UN troops in Heart of Chornobyl, who knows.

  13. Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions "People Get Ready" is an anthem that energizes the culture to be proud of who we are, where we came from, and where we're going.
  14. Like Sam Cooke, Billie Holiday's defiance in the face of injustice and oppression keeps "Strange Fruit" an important anthem in the history of Black America.
  15. The O'Jays's "Family Reunion" makes it very clear when and where this cultural anthem should be played.
  16. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly's "Before I Let Go" is the pinnacle of Black anthems and the number one hit at every Black American function.

  19. DMX's “Party Up (Up in Here)” is 100% a party anthem in every culture, and I will battle anyone who disagrees.

  22. The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Juicy" is a flashback of when the triumphs of today are a direct result of your past struggles.

  24. Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get it On" is pretty on the nose with the fact it's meant for getting your significant other or one-night fling in the mood.
  25. Roger Troutman and Zapp's "Computer Love" is sonic foreplay that's up there with chocolate-covered strawberries, candles, and incense.
  26. Boyz II Men's "End Of The Road" is used so often that people forget it's not about a funeral or falling in love but the complete opposite — a breakup.
  27. Fugees featuring Ms. Lauryn Hill's cover of Roberta Flack's "Killing Me Softly With His Song," is the soundtrack when you're down bad and feeling pitiful.

I don't normally do this, but re-posting to see if I can gain some traction and get more of this stuff unloaded before the weekend's over. I'm planning to get rid of mostly everything here in a few weeks by trading it in at a local shop that does B/S/T, so it won't al be available much longer. I don't crosspost to other sites, but Spring Cleaning season is almost here and I'll happily turn this stuff into store credit somewhere and convert it into some other junk I probably don't need.
Prices are flexible and I'm happy to give good deals on bundling items together. More often than not, I'll automatically accept offers, but also don't want to be lowballed. If you're looking for a deal, it doesn't hurt to ask. I just want it all GONE!

"Say something nice."

Missy

Theme

Background

During the Doctor's adventures through time, various allies who perishes for one reason or another suddenly began to find themselves face-to-face with a strange woman only going by Missy, in a place aptly described as "Heaven". It'd be revealed much later that Missy was in actuality the latest regeneration of the thought-dead Master, having set up an elaborate ploy to turn every single dead human throughout time into a cyber-army as a gift for the Doctor, trying to get him to see the world through her perspective.
Instead, however, after having her plans foiled, Missy's desperation to connect with her former ally and constant adversary would turn into a complex chapter in the Master's history, where slowly but surely the mind-addled time lord began to turn a new leaf and try to use her vast intellect for the cause of good.

The Nethersphere

Across the Doctor's adventures, the recently deceased start finding themselves still conscious, having moved on to some kind of afterlife. In reality - The Master had utilized a piece of Time Lord technology called a Matrix Data Slice to act as a cloud, automatically scanning and uploading minds of humans right as they die across the planet.
People in the simulated reality are subjected to all the pain/feelings of their own dead bodies, are shown flashbacks to traumatic moments in life, all in an attempt to make them voluntarily give up their emotions.

Front Company

Part of Missy's plan centered around a front company called "3W" that she created to hide her activities from the public eye while she ran the Nethersphere.

Virtual Reality

Zombie Cybermen

While the Nethersphere handled uploading and editing of human minds, the the second phase of her plan with the device involved transforming dead bodies into Cybermen.
She also had a group of Cybermen to where there was crowds at every major city around the globe already ready before starting to empty the Nethersphere.
The ultimate purpose of her plan was to give control of her army to the Doctor and force him to use it to conquer the universe to see things from her perspective.

.////N//// However, importantly, when only the face was cooled, we saw a very similar increase in blood pressure that was due to a reflex increase in vascular resistance of the skin throughout the whole body," Lawley describes.
Thus, the team was able to show that the mechanism(s) responsible for the rise in blood pressure during cold exposure depends on which parts of the body are cold. These data are important to educate the population about preventing the potential negative consequences of cold exposure because contrary to the perception of many, cold is even more dangerous to the body than heat.
"It doesn't take sub-zero temperatures – as you might think – to cause serious reactions in the body, which will become common for many people unable to heat their homes during the energy crisis. While people typically know to wear warm clothing to protect the skin of their body, arms and legs, we were able to show that protecting the face is equally important even in a mild ambient temperature of ten degrees," Lawley continues.

Several countries, including Japan, Mexico, China and Turkey, have long had such earthquake warning systems in place. The U.S. system is more than 80% complete. It is planned to have 1,115 California sensors and quicker transmission times, with additional sensors in Oregon and Washington and a goal of giving residents critical seconds of warning before an earthquake strikes.
The ShakeAlert system detects an earthquake’s initial waves of ground motion, which travel quickly and are weaker than the more damaging second set of waves. Processing centers in Seattle, Menlo Park and Pasadena analyze the data to identify the epicenter and strength of the earthquake and publish a ShakeAlert message, which then goes to various government and private partners to be sent as alerts.
The alert thresholds vary — wireless emergency cell phone alerts to the general public are triggered at magnitude 5 or greater and a Modified Mercalli Intensity scale of at least IV for light shaking. People also can download private apps that issue alerts at magnitude 4.5 and intensity level III for weak shaking. https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/12/20/we-were-ready-california-shakealert-warns-3-million-ahead-of-tuesdays-big-quake-in-biggest-test-yet/
On Tuesday, the US Postal Service announced that it plans to buy 106,000 new vehicles by 2028, of which 66,000 will run on electricity and produce zero greenhouse gas emissions. The $9.6 billion investment for mail trucks and chargers, including $3 billion from the Inflation Reduction Act, could soon give the Postal Service the largest electric fleet in the US.
A massive bulk purchase like this stands to move the entire EV market, spurring demand for the entire electric car supply chain, from batteries to semiconductors. The economies of scale could then lower the cost of these vehicles for everyone, making it easier to decarbonize transportation, the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in the US.
But it’s not the environmental bona fides of EVs that won over Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. “The biggest thing was financial ability and operational suitability,” he told reporters outside the US Postal Service headquarters in Washington, DC. https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/23518852/postal-service-electric-mail-truck-usps-ngdv-dejoy
, was the first to report on a possible connection between oral exposure to cylindrospermopsin (a form of cyanobacteria) and liver damage via the “gut-connection.”
Cyanobacteria, commonly known as ‘blue-green algae’ are photosynthetic organisms that form from light energy and inorganic compounds, which are found in all sorts of water systems. Climate change-related stressors increase the excessive growth of these cyanobacteria present in the water bodies, a phenomenon also known as the formation of harmful algal blooms.
The researchers had previously reported the gut-brain-mind connection of another cyanotoxin named microcystin. Using mouse models, Punnag Saha, first author of this study and a UCI doctoral student in Chatterjee’s research lab, analyzed the effects of oral exposure from these harmful algal blooms on the gut bacteria environment and observed a marked increase in opportunistic pathogens with a parallel decrease in beneficial bacterial populations. https://www.newswise.com/articles/exposure-to-toxic-blue-green-algae-exacerbated-by-climate-change-shown-to-cause-liver-disease-in-mouse-models
. Cactuses are so good at blending in with their surroundings that people sometimes fail to notice them while they are out hiking, Trager says. “Depending on the lighting, you might not recognize that it’s a spiny as it is until you feel it.”
For chollas and prickly pears, spines serve another purpose that makes them especially unpleasant to tussle with. Unlike the pillar-like saguaro or barrel cactus, these species are built from a collection of smaller pieces that are easily snapped off. “Each one of those portions of the stem has the ability to root in the ground and start a new plant,” https://www.popsci.com/how-to-remove-cactus-spines/
Interestingly, significant reductions in MD values correlated with higher cannabidiol (CBD) exposure but not Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol exposure.
Conclusions: Overall, MC treatment was associated with increased WM coherence, which contrasts with prior research examining recreational cannabis consumers, likely related to inherent differences between recreational consumers and MC patients (e.g., product choice, age of onset). In addition, increased CBD exposure was associated with reduced MD following 6 months of treatment, extending evidence from preclinical research indicating that CBD may be neuroprotective against demyelination https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/full/10.1089/can.2022.0097

At birth, there is a very small, unstable microbial community in the gut, but by the time an individual reaches adulthood, the community is robust. During the developmental stage, speciation of the gut microbiota depends on genetic and environmental factors (e.g., medication, antibiotics, diet, and disease). Scientists identified a critical window in early life, during which gut microbiota regulates the developmental process associated with behavior and brain function.
Most of the available preclinical studies have examined the impact of long-term reduction of the gut microbiota. However, these studies have failed to highlight the time-specific effects of microbes during the developmental stage. Preclinical studies have revealed that the peri-weaning period is a sensitive window for early-life microbiota perturbations, which influences the development of the brain and immune system. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20221219/Study-highlights-the-importance-of-the-gut-microbiota-during-early-neurodevelopment.aspx

Furthermore, CR found that for 23 of the bars, consuming just one ounce per day — roughly equal to a tiny chocolate bar — would be enough to put an adult over harmful levels of those heavy metals. According to market research cited by the report, around 15 percent of people eat chocolate daily.
That risk becomes especially acute in pregnant people and children, to whom the exposure to heavy metals — especially lead — could drastically hinder development and cause lasting brain damage. https://futurism.com/neoscope/dark-chocolate-brands-dangerous-heavy-metals
The other 10 percent of alcohol elimination takes place through the kidneys and lungs. The latter is the reason breath tests reveal blood alcohol concentrations, and we can tell someone has been drinking by smelling the air they breathe out. Fisher and colleagues wondered if harder and faster breathing might process the alcohol more quickly. The idea has been used for removing harmful blood impurities like carbon monoxide acquired in less fun ways. https://www.iflscience.com/there-s-a-surprisingly-easy-way-to-sober-up-when-drunk-66725
"Endocrine disorders such as vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency can lead to loss of bone mineral density as well as a reduction in muscle mass, strength and function," Alexandre said.
The findings prove that the risk of muscle weakness is heightened by both vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency, he said.
"Another conclusion to be derived from the results of the study is that it's important to take vitamin D if you have a deficiency or insufficiency," Alexandre added.
The body only synthesizes vitamin D when large areas of skin are exposed to sunlight.
"It's necessary to explain to people that they risk losing muscle strength if they don't get enough vitamin D," Alexandre said. "They need to expose themselves to the sun, eat food rich in vitamin D or take a supplement, and do resistance training exercises to maintain muscle strength." https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2022/12/19/vitamin-d-muscle/7201671459337/
A rapid transition to renewable power is essential to avoid the worst effects of climate change, but governments have been lukewarm in their commitment. Energy security concerns spurred by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine seem to be sharpening minds, though, according to a new report.

Green gentrification occurs in cities where municipal greening strategies are implemented and is the process whereby the original population of a lower-middle or lower class neighborhood is displaced by new residents with higher purchasing power who arrive to this area because they were attracted by the proximity of new parks and green spaces and the offer of more attractive housing.
As a result, rental and housing prices substantially increase so that the most vulnerable groups cannot cope with the prices and must move to other less attractive neighborhoods with a lower quality of life. https://phys.org/news/2022-12-greener-cities-social-climate-inequalities.html
Current global fate simulations for PCBs are mostly based on multimedia models, whose oceanic compartment is simplified to a box model that ignores the direct effect of ocean current advection on PCBs, and those global models with a horizontal resolution of ~100 km are too coarse to reproduce the realistic western boundary currents.
Therefore, the effects of western boundary currents on PCBs concentrations have not been fully considered by the global ocean simulation of PCBs. One important implication is that the effect of western boundary currents on the air-sea diffusion flux of PCBs should be considered in atmospheric modeling of the global distribution and fate of PCBs. https://phys.org/news/2022-12-kuroshio-current-air-sea-exchange-pcbs.html

What the team found was that increased use of devices as calming mechanisms was linked to greater emotional reactivity or dysregulation in the kids over the course of several months: think rapid shifts between moods and heightened impulsivity, for example.
The association was particularly strong in young boys and in children who already had signs of hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and a strong temperament. It seems as though these gadgets can prevent kids from developing their own ways of regulating emotions.

Less is known about the impact of exercise on tweaking the body clock than light.
However, it is possible that if an ‘owl’ is keen to fall asleep and wake up earlier (because, for example, of a specific work schedule), exercising early in the day – and with simultaneous light exposure – may help. On the other hand, if a ‘lark’ wishes to go to bed later (to allow for a longer evening), they might benefit from exercising later in the day, at some point between 7pm and 10pm, particularly if there is an exposure to light at the same time.
There could be an interaction between exercise timing, whether you’re a lark or an owl, and sleep. One study found that exercising later in the day was more associated with a delayed sleep time for ‘morning’ than ‘evening’ types. A busy lifestyle can make it tricky for people to schedule exercise; if evening provides that opportunity, then exercise benefits outweigh the risks. https://www.sciencefocus.com/the-human-body/when-is-the-best-time-to-exercise-for-sleep/

Pink aurora hues are the result of the solar particles interacting with nitrogen in Earth's atmosphere, according to the Royal Museum Greenwich (opens in new tab). That only happens when the streams of charged particles, also known as solar wind, penetrate deeper into Earth's atmosphere, some 60 miles (100 km) above the planet's surface. The more common greenish auroras, produced by the interaction of the solar wind with oxygen, appear at higher altitudes of up to 150 miles (240 km).
The previous pink aurora display (opens in new tab) that surprised skywatchers in November appeared after a relatively mild geomagnetic storm tore a crack in Earth's magnetic field, allowing the solar wind to flow into the deeper layers of the atmosphere. What exactly caused the display of Dec. 10 is a bit of a mystery. https://www.space.com/rare-orange-pink-auroras-norway
To reduce the arsenic in your rice, first give it a good rinse. Place the grains in a fine mesh strainer and pour water over them until it runs clear. Cook the rice in excess water, at a ratio of one cup of rice to six cups of water, and drain any extra leftover once the grains are tender.
Rices With Lower Arsenic Levels
The amount of arsenic in rice depends on the variety of rice and where it was grown. Brown rice absorbs more arsenic while growing than white, with basmati rice regularly having the lowest levels when tested.
Regional differences matter too. The Southern United States, particularly Texas and Louisiana, have higher levels of arsenic potentially due to residual contamination from pesticides used to control the weevil population, while grains grown in California seem to have the lowest levels of all the rice grown in the U.S. https://www.allrecipes.com/article/arsenic-in-rice/

The average number of airborne microplastics detected in Auckland in one square metre in a single day was found to be 4,885. This compares with estimates from other, previous studies of 771 in London, 275 in Hamburg, and 110 in Paris. Given that these are all cities that have traditionally been assumed to be much higher polluters than Auckland, it is likely that we have been significantly underestimating the extent of this issue. We use traffic data from around 5,000 web domains in Europe and United States to investigate the effect of the European Unions General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on website visits and user engagement. We document an overall traffic reduction of approximately 15% in the long-run and find a measurable reduction in engagement with websites. Traffic from both paid and unpaid channels dropped significantly. We observe an inverted U-shaped relationship between website size and change in visits due to privacy regulation: the smallest and largest websites lost visitors, while medium-sized ones were less affected. Enforcement matters as well: The effects were amplified considerably in the long-run, following the first significant fine issued eight months after the entry into force of the GDPR. Exploring potential mechanisms, both a reduction in advertising effectiveness and a higher user awareness of privacy issues can explain our results. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0167624522000427
Fusarium mycotoxins were discovered in every European country. Half of the wheat intended for human food in Europe contains the Fusarium mycotoxin "DON" (commonly referred to as vomitoxin) while in the U.K., 70% of wheat is contaminated. Governments set legal limits on DON contamination levels in wheat that is to be consumed by humans.
These regulations provide effective protection, with 95% of wheat destined for the table meeting the safety limits for DON concentration. However, the finding that mycotoxins are ubiquitous is concerning, as the effect of constant, low-level exposure to mycotoxins in our diet over the course of a lifetime is not known.
"There are real concerns that chronic dietary exposure to these mycotoxins impacts human health," said Dr. Brown. https://phys.org/news/2022-12-fungal-toxins-wheat-threat.html

.////J//// However, importantly, when only the face was cooled, we saw a very similar increase in blood pressure that was due to a reflex increase in vascular resistance of the skin throughout the whole body," Lawley describes.

This Bible — mostly comprised of Tyndale’s translation — was known as the "Great Bible" due to its great size: a large pulpit folio measuring over 14 inches tall. Seven editions of this version were printed between April of 1539 and December of 1541. Printers and sellers of books were encouraged to provide for the “free and liberal use of the Bible in our own maternal English tongue”. Asking for advice on how to care for these pieces
Good afternoon! Recently I inherited my great grandmothers chest of silver plated cutlery, and I am looking for advice on how to best clean it, restore it, and care for it. Any natural or homemade remedies are preferred as I have awful allergies to cleaning products. A few of the pieces towards the bottom appear to have something of a rust on them but I can’t be sure.

2022.11.29 20:25 SimplySolace Wings prospect Marco Kasper to skip 2023 WJC

Saw both a tweet and article on it today:
https://twitter.com/EP_Biedermann/status/1597529893889544193
The mission relegation at the #WorldJuniors will take place for the #TeamAustria without Marco Kasper.
Due to the high number of games played for Kasper in the last 12 months, the man from Klagenfurt will not travel to Canada.

https://www.puckfans.at/oeehv-gibt-ersten-kader-fuer-die-world-juniors-bekannt/
Roger Bader on this decision:“Of course we would have liked to have had Marco at the World Cup, but we fully understand his situation. No player has played a comparable amount of games in the past twelve months as he has. We always have the big picture in mind, which is why we are giving him a break for the U20 World Cup.”
