2023.04.02 13:10 ambeerk Why can I not work out at home?

I usually prefer working out with dumbbells to using the machines, and I have a few dumbbells at home (my dad’s). I should able to do the same routines I do at the gym, at home. But I can’t work out more than 10 minutes at home. Does anyone have the same problem? Why is it so difficult to exercise at home???
also take a shot every time I said at home in this post.

2023.04.02 13:10 sifwolf What the game story actually means

Sorry for the length. Putting this here as a kind of defense against people saying they hated Johnny, the game was all about him and not V, and he ruined the story, Keanu was a gimmick, his delivery of lines was emotionless, etc. I used to feel like that, but now I think I get the story, and the reason for why it's like that.
Disclaimer: this is just my theory, so I could be wrong, but I think that Cyberpunk is a:
  1. Allegory of IP and ID, copying versus creation
Cyberpunk isn't really about flying cars and downloaded consciousness. It's an allegory for RL issues going on in the world today: creative content theft and the conversion of ID into binary code, subsequent theft of personhood and the reinterpretation of identity beyond single individuals. We're moving towards a world where someone's ID is not just conferred by birth but a product of their own creative labor uploaded to digitspace. There are real world analogies here to piracy and NFTs, online personas, corporate ownership of such, AIs and unregulated cyberspaces and so on. Many cryptic lines and events and the different endings are exposed when framed through this lens.
Once people start to upload their creative labor and identities into cyberspace, what happens once they die? The game grapples with these questions via the metaphor of engrams, but we can make 'engrams' today. They are files and programs. The work you pour your 'soul' into today will survive for 100+ years and be possessed by strangers for profit and purposes you might disagree with, but since you'll be dead, who will protect your identity and legacy?
  1. Characters (female pronouns used for V for clarity)
(a) Johnny (criminals can be crime victims, too):
Johnny represents the archetypal hypocritical asshole creative artist who says 'smash the system' while profiting from that same system. Johnny's pointing a pistol into the face of his fans, and seconds later rallying them, playing for their entertainment, is a moment of symbolism encapsulating the contradiction and hypocrisy of his character.
The narrative reason for Johnny being an extreme asshole anarcho-terrorist is to challenge the perception that, even if the artist was an appalling dick, is it ok to steal/profane their creative works or pervert their creations for your own gain? Even if Johnny was an incorrigible monster, a thief who steals his IPs is still a thief, and an imposter who reappropriates his identity is still committing fraud. If you get distracted by what a dick Johnny is, you miss the terrible thing V does.
(b) Johnny's engram / ("The Treachery of Images"):
When Johnny died, his story ended. V never met Johnny, nor he her. The engram is a metaphor for Johnny's digitized IP/ID, which V stole. He doesn't play protagonist, deuteragonist, or even a character function. He's a static device, like a McGuffin. As such, you cannot 'cooperate' with the engram, or act in his interest, or serve his 'arc'. The engram doesn't get a 'redemption' arc or arc at all. What looks like a redemption arc is actually conveying that artistic work is lives free from its creator's moral conscience. Johnny died a despised terrorist, but his art is liked, free and pure. The engram can't learn or grow, but like art, can be modified externally (by its possessors/owners), wiped of its creator's sins. The engram speaks as Johnny because it was sourced from him, just as a song you wrote will speak your beliefs. But might not forever...One day after you die, the 'engram' might 'give up the guitar' and never again speak with your voice. People will take your creations and make something new with them. This is only a bad thing insofar as your living voice spoke nice things. It's a great thing if your living voice spoke hate, for your works to untether upon your death and sing of love, friendship, and the victory of good over evil.
This is why the Temperance ending is so mysterious and inconclusive. The engram - as Johnny's creative IP - survives the deaths of V and Johnny and again goes forth into an uncertain world, lacking an ownepossessor, freed from V's friends but also Johnny's conscience. It still echoes Johnny's ideas and beliefs, and inspires a new generation of fans. No one 'owns' Johnny's works, at least no one who will live as long as the work itself. Anyone could possess it, for any end. And it might, for the first time in its existence, impress good things upon the world.
In the temperance ending, V, by contrast, did not create IP, and dies forgotten, swallowed up in the shadow of Johnny's enormous legacy. Maybe if she'd created something from the soul - instead of stealing others' work - this would be different. But's also austerely fair.
The symbolic touch for the engram is how it shades its eyes beneath dark glasses. The eyes are the window to the soul. Similar to how Alt's hair symbolically covers her face. Engrams (IPs) have no 'face'; their creator's referent identity dissolves in time as new users appropriate the property. In 'Temperance' the engram removes its glasses upon living a new life, adopted by a new generation of fans, unmarked by the personal villainy of the art's creator. The art has been freed from corporate and fraudulent possession and re-ignites pure creative soul in the world. For the first time, the art has a chance to be a creative, not destructive influence.
Note, Johnny the person is represented by the 'Magician' tarot card. The Magician creates mystery. His engram is represented by 'the Moon'. The moon is mystery - the thing created - itself.
(c) V / The Fool
Johnny isn't the only 'bad guy' in the story. V is also a 'bad guy', and I think you'll find the bitter tone of the game functions to reflect this. V represents an IP/ID thief. She didn't create something from her soul, but stole someone else's creation for profit. This results in her karmic punishment; the stigma of a fraud and creatively bankrupt, creatively 'soulless' person. The 'sickness' V suffers from symbolizes that once you are identified as a plagiarist or thief, anything you genuinely create thereafter, will be considered suspect. How can anyone be sure her original works aren't also secretly rip-offs? So she has damaged her 'creative soul'.
This is why she's slowly, karmically 'becoming' Johnny while her true self is evaporating. Her dilemma is to desperately figure out how to undo her bad act; disentangle herself from Johnny's shadow, create an original legacy for herself to 'survive' her death and not go to her grave forgotten or buried under her misdeed. This is where Alt comes in.
(c) Alt: a tech wiz who invented tech to create digital IDs and safe space in which to use them. She's anti-regulation but ensures her digital ID subsequently polices the space. Her moniker is unsubtly symbolic (a reference to the 'Alt' key). The fact her engram is a cyber-roving AI and not entirely trusted by other characters probably represents a hive group like Anonymous or even 4chan who sometimes band for good purposes but are ultimately unaccountable. The 'rogue AIs' Alt talks about are like the bad parts of 4chan and it's not clear how connected or influenced by them she is.
Alt's offer to V to cure her problem by making an engram of herself to put back into her body, is a metaphor for V creating a new, original IP - via Alt's tech - to be known for. However, this necessitates the death of her former 'thief' ID. In the 'Sun' ending she then has 6 months of 'retirement' where she's free from the pressure of having to create something to leave a legacy behind. She can use that 6 months with loved ones away from the city grind. Even though V is still dying, this is actually a symbolically happy ending, because during those 6 months, V will be completely free. She used to be an iguana trapped in the corporate box. Now she's a bird flying away. She has a chance to be more content than most people living out much longer lives, still grinding away in NC to create legacies. She's basically achieved not only what Johnny did (become a legend), but achieved what he did not (be remembered for good reasons). Johnny's legacy was an illusion and he gets no grave and his creative property enter cyberspace to be used and enjoyed and reappropriated underground. V will be remembered as the person who shattered the big bad corporation, which even Johnny failed to do. She will be remembered for the right reasons, which (according to the game) is even more important than life itself, or immortality.
*** TLDR:
When you're biologically alive, your art is your property. But when you die, the relationship inverts. Your art survives and your identity becomes its property. In death, your creation/s possess you. And other people can possess them.
* Bonus: What does the Peralez stuff mean?
I thought the Peralez stuff is a reference to the Matrix. Anyone else get that?

2023.04.02 13:09 Magic_of_the_Castle Dear Subscribers

I would like to start with the fact that I have been tormented by the development of my project for too long, and probably I should not have entered the gamedev sphere, but every time I dreamed more and more of creating my own unique project that I and the players would like. But subsequently faced great disappointment and grief. After all, for all my time studying and developing the project, I spent all my efforts, nerves, time, and of course a decent amount of money. And for what? In order to create and make money on your brainchild, to show people, that I can and can, but instead I got nothing absolutely, after showing my project in other sabredits I was laughed at and told, that my project is not worthy of existence, but nevertheless, play themselves and pay for games that are made in the literal sense in 1 day. So, in addition to this, they are not even made from their graphics, but taken from free assets on the Internet, this is just ridiculous, and people praise their games and say that this is a high-quality project. How does this world work? I always thought that in our world everything should work as follows: the more complex the product or project in creation, the more it earns. But no, in the 21st century, it is enough just to take free assets from the Internet, mixing your players with shit, and enjoy life with the earnings of a project that is not serious and advertising banners are stuck everywhere. I am leading this conversation to the fact that most likely I will stop developing my project, I have been depressed for more than six months. I don't enjoy anything, absolutely nothing. I have been going to work and spending money on training and developing my project for 2 years and do not see the result of my work. The funny thing is that I have not even received payments from Google, I cannot even accumulate the minimum amount for withdrawal. I sent my game to the publishers, but these GREAT PUBLISHERS see their vision, and they refuse to refer to the fact that the project is too monotonous and boring. Recently, one of the publishing houses told me that "pixel graphics are a minus rather than a plus" it's funny, especially when they have "Helix jump" -level projects, but the same company can tell them the same way they are "specialists in their field." Over the past six months, I have written to 100 publishers and received nothing from them, I am in complete despair and do not know what to do, so I had to speak out here.

2023.04.02 13:09 Ladylumps14 “Moms know best”

Childhood wasn’t anything special for me, I lived in a small town in the Midwest with 2 other siblings and a single mother.
If the single mother part didn’t already spell it out enough, we were always in the lower income bracket, mom always struggled financially. Mom was always in debt, Only because of her personal mistakes when she was younger.
Me and my twin sister Melanie obviously share the same father, my other sibling Carl does not. Neither fathers chose to stick around, funny.
You can assume with all these factors, we didn’t live a ventured lifestyle, we were extremely poor. And often went without.
Let’s give a few examples:
We never started school with school supplies, some years we didn’t get anything.
Clothes worn were from goodwill, if we were lucky.
Shoes were often bought by our grandparents, you can only imagine what they looked like.
Some days I would watch mom cry in the kitchen because she wouldn’t know what to cook due to having such a low stock.
What’s Christmas?
Our birthday gifts were $20 each which would end up giving back a day later.
And mom wonders why I space myself from my family?

2023.04.02 13:09 Relevant_Sample4174 Insurance for world cruise

Does anyone have any experiance or tips to share for insurance for a world cruise. We are planning a world cruise in 2024 and I am about to book it. The total cost of the cruise is £50k so quite a bit of money. The upfront cost is I think about 15% and then the balance is due 90 days before sailing. Normally I go on one of those comparison sites and get whatever looks like the cheapest deal but with a world cruise I'm obviously going to pay more attention to the contract details. Of particular concern is if something happens at home and we need to fly home during the cruise. Also, I'd appreciate any tips on when is best to purchase it; I was thinking I might purchase it just before paying the final balance so if something happens in the 90 days prior to sailing I will also be covered.

2023.04.02 13:08 Tonightmatthew1 My lovely spouse has terrible taste

I want to preface this with the fact that I already feel terrible about being so shallow! Seeking advice for how to approach these feelings and what to do with them.
Ok so. My sweet non-binary spouse (newly out) has in the last few months started expressing lots of interest in skirts. This is absolutely fine by me, I (cisf) hate wearing skirts myself but love the look, and I’m 100% wanting to be supportive.
The problem is that their taste in skirts is making me viscerally repulsed. They grew up presenting as male, so obviously had no embarrassing middle school femme fashion experimentation like I got to have, so I recognise that I have a leg up here and that this might just be a necessary phase while they develop their own taste.
BUT I’m struggling to hide / gently express my distaste in the mean time. I’m worried that either a) I’ll accidentally squash their confidence and hurt them b) this isn’t a phase and is actually representative of their taste, in which case I’m scared I won’t be able to be sexually attracted to them c) I express my feelings and end up accidentally controlling their taste entirely rather than letting them find their own, and they grow to resent me for it
If it helps to picture it- they are very tall, broad shouldered, narrow hipped, muscly, and seen by all as very classically handsome in a masculine way just based on body type alone. I suspect their main interest in skirts comes from frustration with being so constantly read “male”, which I understand and want to help with. Their taste so far has been very straight wooly librarian-y skirts with their normal t shirts or turtlenecks. The problem for me is that the tops don’t suit or complement, and that the cut of the skirt type does not flatter their legs, which are gorgeous and deserve better. They also wear their ratty Nike work trainers with them while they own a perfectly good pair of docs!!
I gave them a flowy white smocked midi with blue embroidery that I think looks amazing on them, but I could tell they weren’t as enthusiastic as me, which triggered these fears for me. I don’t want to be shallow, but also I’m afraid that it’ll mean the death of my attraction to them. I’ll always love them but I also want to be attracted to my partner!
What do I do??

2023.04.02 13:08 tunesandthoughts Sven Mislintat and his magic scouting software.

So the last few days I was doing a bit of research into Mislintat's methods surrounding scouting and I did end up finding some interesting information.
Mislintat has been covered in the book "Football Hackers: The Science and Art of a Data Revolution" - I came across this thread on twitter which is worth the read: https://twitter.com/Zlajan/status/1642058335657639936
I took a look at the Matchmetrics site and lo and behold, while he is not mentioned as a foundeco-creator of the software in the way the book does, he is mentioned prominently as a user and is willing to give a quote for the site.
“Scoutpanel is my constant assistant in the daily transfer business – whether at Borussia Dortmund, FC Arsenal or now in Stuttgart. With Scoutpanel, I can combine my own assessments effectively with objective statistics and performance indicators to identify talents and key players at an early stage.”
Worth a read is this blog post they made about scouting Wataru Endo, who seems to have become a big success for Stuttgart. Interesting to see the actual email sent to Mislintat regarding this player and how they based the decision on multiple years of data. He was scouted while playing in the Belgian 2nd devision.
Another thing that stood out to me was their article on factoring in relative league strength while scouting and how bad the Eredivisie seems to score on that metric: https://matchmetrics.com/insights/how-can-i-compare-players-across-competitions-and-countries/
I haven't seen his connection to this scouting software pointed out yet. While a lot of pundits are saying that he has no connections/local network/knowledge about our league I don't think that really matters if this software allows him to spot opportunities in Belgium's 2nd division.
At the same time should we want a package deal like this? I wonder how the scouts and data analysts will respond to having this Scoutpanel being the leading factor in recruitment.

2023.04.02 13:08 RealScavengr Does AC Odyssey Reload Right Before the Ending?

I managed to find answers with something like, "yes, you can obviously continue exploring the open world after the main story." But I could not find out whether they load the game just before the final main mission after completing it.
Will the final main quest keep popping up after completing it? For example, in Horizon Zero Dawn, or Death Stranding, or Immortals Fenyx Rising, they put you right before the final mission and you never really complete it. Is it like that in Odyssey too?
I just started playing Odyssey. So, please keep the answer spoiler free. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

2023.04.02 13:07 invDan Blisters on midfoot - midfoot striker

Hi.
I am a midfoot striker with flat feet and overpronation, and can run a steady (minimal slowing down or sprinting) 07:45 minutes per mile up to half a marathon (slowly working towards keeping this pace or even improving it for the full marathon distance).
Problem is I keep getting blisters on the inner part (towards the direction of the opposite foot) of the midfoot and am wondering if you have any general advice to mitigate this? I am currently testing different insoles as I see the actual shoe choice (tried various stavility and neutral models, all wide, from various known brands) does not make such a difference for this problem...
Thanks!

2023.04.02 13:07 Joei160 So, what are the consequences of taunting Trebonius to death?

After several Morrowind playthroughs, I finally learned to love this game with all my heart a few years ago and gave the Altmer full-mage with atronach birthsing a try — and it has been, as mr Sagdiev would put it, a grEAT SUCCESS!
So far, I already have 100 intelligence, the mentor’s ring and the mantle of woe, but sadly I want… MORE magicka 😈. Currently, I rose to the rank of Magician (with 4 advancements remaining to get to that of Arch-mage). Nevertheless, I have not decided what path will I follow… what house will I join and who my character actually is. Until now, he just hates the Empire for imprisoning him and sending him away from his beloved Alinor — though he does worship the Nine. He will never meet mr Cosades and will complete the main quest through the Black Path when he gets strong enough. No hurries, though.
Moreover, I am not sure if I actually want to become the Arch-mage, because I am generally inclined to avoid this “chosen-one” atmosphere, in which all the world spins around you and your deeds. I believe Morrowind’s beauty stems precisely from being the opposite of that.
Thus, what are the limitations from taunting Trebonius and killing him before becoming the Arch-mage? — and more important, will Tamriel Rebuilt provide me with a parallel path to become the Arch-mage if I so desire later in my adventure?
Thanks in advance!
TL;DR: 1) what will I lose if I kill Trebonius early? 2) What are the main benefits of becoming the Arch-mage? 3) Does Tamriel Rebuilt give you a parallel path to rise to the rank of Arch-mage?

2023.04.02 13:06 Justheretoplaysouls2 Struggling a bit with exploration in Ender Lillies. Something about Exploration in this game is a bit off and feels a lot more annoying than other Metroidvanias to me

Does anyone else feel this way about Ender Lillies specifically?
Im about 5 hours in now, playing quite slowly and ive killed the first 3 bosses (Siegrid, Eleine and Gerrod). The boss fights were easier than expected so far but something about the exploration feels off. After I killed the witch at the 3 hour mark, there was one path leading down with some timed gates. Its the only area I could reach with my current skills of double jump, bubble and the ground slam. But I get there and theres an immediate issue with my character not being fast enough to make it to the door before it shuts (There some demonic looking thing with sacks behind it). So I've just been spending the last 2 hours backtracking everywhere trying to find something I missed. Usually I'm not this completely lost in a Metroidvania at the 3 hour mark and the progress path usually looks clearer than this.
Even after I've received skills like the ground break, theres still some areas that I cant get to because I climb up the inside of a building to drop attack a breakable floor from a high point and theres just no way through to the other side so I can drop attack it. Theres one of those breakable doors which instead of being on the floor is situated sideways. I have never been this stuck so early on in a Metroidvania before.
The map seriously does not help much. It doesnt show you what the actual room looks like, and only tells you that theres exits somewhere above/below to the right.
Am I missing another skill? I wouldnt have thought that right after killing the witch and getting the underwater skill I would immediately need something that makes me go fast. Or Am I just going the wrong way?
Everything else about the game is stunning, especially the combat but exploration feels so bad right now.

2023.04.02 13:06 caleblbaker Thoughts on Words of Radiance

I'm currently rereading Words of Radiance and it's bringing back feeling that I had the first time I read it.
First off: I love Words of Radiance and I see how it's a necessary part of my favorite series.
But it is easily my least favorite book of the Stormlight Archive. Kaladin and Adolin are both so annoying in this book (as much as I love both of them in all of the other books). Adolin is such a spoiled brat and Kaladin is so self righteous and seems like he goes out of his way to be rude to all of the lighteyes. I can't wait to get to the part where Dalinar confronts Amaram and Kaladin is just like "wut? Did a lighteyes trust my word over the word of another lighteyes?" He gets so much better after that.
And the whole thing with Kaladin agreeing to let Moash kill the king without consulting anyone other than Moash or Syl about it (and he might as well have not consulted Syl since he didn't listen to anything she said) really bothers me. Like if only there were another member of bridge 4 whom Kaladin trusted and who would see the matter more clearly by not sharing Kaladin and Moash's seething hatred of lighteyes. Someone like that would make a great advisor on this matter. Does this hypothetical advisor sound a lot like Teft?
That said, it is nice to see Dalinar carrying out the decision to treat the other high princes like children that he made at the end of the way of kings.

2023.04.02 13:05 nicesliceoice How common was it for men to loose their genitals to dogs?

I know this sounds like a joke question, but it comes form a genuine place. I was searching for Korean eunuchs after watching a k-drama set in the joseon era. And found this strange snippet from Harper's... Which made me wonder how common it must have been for this to be an important detail. Does anyone know the study this came from or how do we know?
Also is this a common reason in other eunuchs in Europe in the same period?

Korean eunuchs of the Joseon dynasty, most of whom either underwent castration voluntarily or lost their genitals to dogs, were found to have lived, on average, fourteen to nineteen years longer than their intact male counterparts.

From what I've searched online. The two main one I have in mind right now are alpenfohn black ridge and Noctua L9.
My main concerns are the compatibility with my motherboard. It's an Aorus x570 I. I think both options will not fit with the m.2 heatsink on. If one of them does please do tell me.
Are there any options that will fit with my components.
Thanks.

Every day I hear people going on and on about trying to find their niche.I also hear people talking about how they don’t know how to combine what they love talking about with what will sell. You already have the answer. You just don’t have the clarity.
  • Develop a long-term strategy to create your own niche — meaning you don’t have to worry about your “competition” playing status games.
  • Discover your life’s work, curiosities, and obsessions. I see too many people that are uncertain about this for years.
  • Cultivate and turn your vision, goals, and values into a brand that attracts an audience you love interacting with (and that will buy from you, and only you).

Phase 2) Content Strategy

There is one thing that separates those who make it in the digital economy and those who don’t.It’s the quality, articulation, and perceived originality of their content. The content you post has to make sense to the people you attract.Everyone has a different voice and tone that they resonate with. That they are congruent with and trust. It has to change their thought patterns or behavior — that’s what makes you memorable. That’s what separates you from the sea of people posting surface-level copy-cat style posts.Example and putting my money where my mouth is:
  • Become an expert-level speaker or writer on the topics you care about.
  • Never run out of content ideas for your posts or promotions (without using content templates — that’s how you stay a commodity).
  • Create posts, blogs, tweets, images, and videos that resonate with other’s on a deep level. People will actually ask you how you got so good at what you do.
  • Separate yourself from the ocean of B-tier creators that struggle to sell their products, services, andhave their ideas stick in the head of their audience.
  • Implement our Epistemic Research Method — which is just a fancy way of saying scientific research method… but it’s for researching your mind to craft brilliant content and product ideas.

Phase 3) Crafting Your Offer

Most people are sitting on a goldmine of skills, experience, and knowledge (that they can use to help people 1-2 steps behind them). That is what people pay for.Considering 95% of the market are beginners… if you are good at something, you can help them get to your level (no matter how “basic” you think the information is).Do you not watch basic content all day anyway? People don’t want new information, they want to be reminded of what works.
  • Use our Minimum Viable Offer strategy to start monetizing immediately (and have something to improve over time, rather than procrastinating until it’s perfect).
  • Have a strategy for reducing the time you spend working over time (as you build leverage and improve your offer).
  • Know how to create your own customers from the audience you are building, instead of “finding” the right customer for your offer.
  • Take the guesswork out of building coaching, consulting, or digital product offers.

Phase 4) Marketing Strategy

You aren’t making money because you aren’t promoting yourself or your offer. That is literally the only way to make money. Have something desirable and consistently put it in front of peoples’ faces. In Phase 4, I will show you how to systemize, automate, and be consistent with simple promotions. You will be able to make money without having the chance of forgetting to do it (or letting fear of failure get in the way).
  • Learn to sell on social media, in your writing, and across different platforms.
  • Have consistent sales coming in while focusing on your meaningful message (no need to sound salesy all the time).
  • Learn advanced automation strategies that you can implement at your own pace, especially once you validate your offer.

Bonus) The Creator Command Center

The Creator Command Center is a Notion template that houses all of the systems. This is how you will manage your brand, content, offer creation, marketing strategy, and systemized promotions for consistent sales.

Bonus) Live Product Build & Launch

In the first Digital Economics Cohort, I built out my course The 2 Hour Writer.I have videos showing how I build it with the strategies in phase 3 and 4.There is a bonus module that shows how I had an $85,000 launch that resulted in my first $100K month.I did this to prove the strategies inside Digital Economics work if you stick to the plan. And, this past Black Friday, I blew my that monthly high out of the water in 4 days. That’s the power of these strategies if you stay consistent with your life’s work.

2023.04.02 13:04 Imwaitingtoolong Sonos Fomo(s)?? Should I get the 300s?

Considering getting the 300s just because of FOMO. I have too many Sonos speakers and really don’t need them, but I can move my surround 5s to a different room and replace them with 300s. I know the 5s are probably better as separate stand alone, but as surrounds, the 300s might be better? These would be paired with an Arc and sub,but I don’t have Atmos TV yet so I wouldn’t be getting any TV benefits.

2023.04.02 13:04 Fenrir_Hellbreed So finally beat Grigori.

Hands down the best Dragon boss fight I've played. Even as a fairly high level there was still some challenge and the whole thing was epic as hell from start to finish.
Now I just have to get through the Ur Dragon. Speaking of does anyone know about how long it typically takes for the reward period to open up on PlayStation and how long it lasts when it does?
