2023.04.02 14:39 str8shooters Did I really lose my voice memos?
I lost my iPhone and using my new iPhone I was able to recover my photos and my notes.
I have about 300 voice memos missing and when I look at the voice memos recovered, there’s only 10 memos. So does this mean that my voice memos weren’t backing up or that iCloud can’t retrieve them?
My iCloud voice memo storage only says 16mb which is too small for my 300 voice memos.
Did I lose the memos for good? Is there a way to retrieve?

FYI, this is a story COLLECTION. Lots of standalones technically. So, you can basically start to read at any chapter, no pre-read of the other chapters needed technically (other than maybe getting better descriptions of characters than: Adam Vir=human, Krill=antlike alien, Sunny=tall alien, Conn=telepathic alien). The numbers are (mostly) only for organization of posts and continuity.
OC Written by Charlie Stastarrfallknightrise,
Typed up and then posted here by me.
Proofreading and language check for some chapters by
u/Finbar9800 Future Lore and fact check done by me.
Sometimes Adam Vir really isn’t the smartest guy… you would have thought he’d think things through better. Well time he learns to be more careful.
You guys ready for some emotional gutpunches?

VIEWER DISGRETION IS ADVISED
This chapter and the following will deal with sensible themes!
[…]
"Gah, this place is a dump."
"Yeah, just be glad you can't smell it."
"Why is that?"
"Urine, lots and lots of urine."
"Ah, lovely."
Krill muttered, making his next movements very tender against the dark clattering metal, as if he could avoid stepping in anything unsavory. Beside him, a rather scruffy human appeared from the shadows, "scruffy" with an overgrown haircut, five o-clock shadow, eyepatch and an army jacket that had seen better days.
Commander Vir blended in surprisingly well with the grungy understreets of Noctopolis. The city was less of a city, and more like a series of tunnels, bridges and rickety buildings, built on and into the side of a cavernous rift in the ground. Once upon a time, the Tesraki had begun serious mining operations on the border moon's surface, causing some serious scars in the landscape, which was then filled with the teaming underground life that the most unsavory humans bring with them.
Noctopolis was located on the furthest edge of the Milky Way galaxy, and seeing as the Galactic Assembly was based out of Andromeda, it was a very difficult moon to police. The UNSC had attempted to take over operations on the moon, but had found only limited success considering their military had only been operating in space for the past few years. They didn't have enough manpower to undergo such an operation, so the moon itself was left mostly unpoliced. Since then, it had become home to the most unsavory of the Tesraki, the Drev, and the humans, having enough economically or emotionally in common that they at least tolerated each other.
What understanding they had of the border moon had begun with the banning of interspecies relationships almost a year past.
Since Noctopolis wasn't particularly well policed, many counterculture groups had made their home here.
While many of them were decent people, attempting a little privacy away from the eyes of the law, other less savory groups had taken an opportunity to stake their claim.
The streets about them were littered with trash and abandoned cardboard and metal scraps. Their greatest source of light leaked down from the lively redlight district above, not only called that because of what it offered, but because it actually did boost a series of bright neon lights that could be seen across the city.
"Wanna tell me why I'm here again? This is kind of a Sunny and Vir thing."
Commander Vir propped himself casually up against a wall, slouching inside his jacket collar turned up against the sour wind blowing up from the cavern vanishing into darkness below,
"Sunny had to finish requisitioning our new weapons system, besides, I thought it was about time you and I hung out. We haven't done anything together as friends in a while."
"Ah yes, just how I prefer social bonding, loitering through piss covered streets with an eyeless legless hobo."
"Rude. Why do you always have to be so sarcastic?"
The human muttered, glancing quickly around a corner.
Krill let the question drop, instead moving onto the next topic of conversation,
"Wanna tell me why we aren't working with local law enforcement?"
The human dodged past a leaking pipe and the resulting black puddle,
"Well there are a few reasons. If I plan on getting close to this drug ring, or even the suppliers, I can't have the smell of the feds one me, second is that the policing system here is only partially overseen by the UNSC, mostly they supply their own officers and their own laws. There are serious rumors about law enforcement corruption, but that can be expected, considering the kind of people that hang out here. And then there is the issue of ease of access to fingerprinting and DNA systems. Mine have been temporarily removed from the system for this operation because the dealers tend to check before the sell, but if I was working with local law enforcement my identity might be leaked."
Together they stepped onto one of the rickety bridges spanning the cavern. Krill tried not to look down into the gaping bottomless chasm, spanning downwards into darkness tinted with the red haze cast from the neon reflection of the city.
"Why is this such a big deal anyway. Why waste you on a project like this."
Commander Vir stepped off the edge of the bridge, holding it steady for Krill as he followed.
"Because these guys are linked to the human hormone market."
Krill was a bit surprised. He had heard about the issue months ago. Certain species, the Tesraki and the Drev especially had neurotransmitter systems similar to that of a human, though somewhat dampened and were affected by the use of injected dopamine and adrenaline. On the street they had taken names like Dopie, Daddy, Addie, Joy Juice, and some other strange names. The biggest issue with the use of human chemicals as drugs is that even a single dose of the stuff could fry the circuits for any nonhuman, taken in any sort of significant dose. In humans it occasionally meant sickness or even mental illness, but in aliens it could mean permanent flat affect or the inability to feel fear. The other issue was how the dealers got it, usually it involved kidnapping and harvesting the chemicals from humans, since many times the analogue drugs humans made for themselves didn't have an effect on aliens.
Krill shivered at the thought, and stepped through a tight alleyway, just ahead of the commander, who had to turn sideways to fit through the narrow space. He didn't like fieldwork, at all, but having a human with you was one way to make you feel safe. The only creature that a human might not be able to fight off was a Drev, but even then, there was still a possibility.
Then again missing an eye and a leg Vir wasn’t a full human at all at the moment…
Together they cut across another street and towards their destination. They had managed to squeeze some information from the only informant still alive on the street, and that had been an address. At the back of the property, they found a door padlocked shut though it had recently been cut.
Commander Vir held open the door and shoved inwards, leading them into a long, dark hallway lined with debris. Krill stayed behind him as they made their way into the darkness jumping at every sound.
Ahead of him, the commander had removed an energy pistol from the band of his pants. Krill didn't bother to point out to him, that it was difficult to believe he wasn't law enforcement when he handled a weapon like that.
He held Krill back and then nudged one of the doors inward, clearing the room with a quick sweep from corner to corner, even stepping out to check behind the door. Krill peered in as the commander grunted,
"Just what we were looking for."
Krill peered around his legs and then paused,
"Uh..."
The room was filled from floor to ceiling with strange glowing tanks of liquid, a pale greenish in color. The ambient light gave the room a rather eerie glow. A glow that highlighted the strange instruments and free-floating tubes with sinister intent. Nothing was currently in the tanks, but Krill shivered knowing what they would have held if they had been filled.
Human bodies.
The tanks cast much of the room into shadow, and commander Vir took cover, crouching behind one of the tank consoles. Krill followed him taking cover behind the human's back. He didn't see what the man was so worried about there was one here. The human tilted his head, listening intently scanning around the room. Krill was just beginning to speak when the man pushed him back hissing,
"RUN!"
But before he could even take a step in another direction, he saw a flicker at the side of the room, and commander Vir was lit up with at least ten points of green light all trained on his chest.
"GET ON THE GROUND."
"PUT YOUR HANDS UP."
"DROP THE GUN."
"DON'T MOVE."
Commander Vir reacted while Krill was still on the floor, standing from behind his cover and stepping into the room. The Energy pistol clattered to the floor as he held his hands out to his sides.
"GET ON THE GROUND!"
Lights flashed all around them, and the room was illuminated by a painful burst of light and an eruption of movement. Men appeared from nowhere dressed in black tactical gear, faces and eyes completely obscured. Commander Vir was thrown face first onto the floor with at least three kneeling on his back.
Two came after Krill who squealed, to high pitched to be heard by the humans.
"GIVE US YOUR HAND!"
"GAH! Yes, yes just stop pulling and I will! Shit... I'm lying on it, let me up for a- OUCH!"
From where he was being pinned to a wall, Krill heard the ratcheting of handcuffs momentarily surprised not to hear the initiation of energy restraints.
"Shit, that's really tight... Ahh... I can't feel my hands."
"STOP RESISTING."
"I'M NOT RESISTING, I HAVE A PROSTHETIC AND YOUR STEPPING ON IT!"
That didn't do him much good as Krill heard the sharp thud, crack of someone being hit over the head. Krill understood what the captain meant about NOT being policed by the UNSC. Krill had met peace officers on earth before, and while they could act the same, they generally had reason be reasonable to them and they would probably be polite to you.
Commander Vir was dragged to his feet hands wrenched painfully behind his back and pinned against the wall as they searched him,
"Anything on you gonna poke me or stick me with?"
"No, no."
"You got ID?"
Commander Vir paused,
"I... well no."
One of the other officers ran a scanning device over his body, but it beeped negative.
"No implants."
Krill cursed internally... They should have thought about that when they temporarily cancelled his ID...
"No ID, you know that's illegal, don't you?"
The one officer said, sticking his hand into another pocket.
"I can explain. I work WITH you guys I-"
"No badge, no ID ... and ah, what is this?”
Krill felt his heart sink as he watched the man pull the adrenaline and dopamine sample from the commander's pocket. He held it up in front of the commander's face,
"And what is this?”
"That... Isn't mine."
He said lamely.
The man pulled down the front of his mask one eyebrow raised,
"Ah not yours eh.... Let me guess these are your friends’ pants, and you're just borrowing them. You had no idea they were there. Oh oh, I know, you were just delivering them for a friend you don't know what they actually are."
He reached into another pocket,
"Oh and what is this?”
Commander Vir groaned and leaned his head against the wall.
The small baggie of white powder was held up before him,
"What is this gonna be, Cocaine, Meth, Heroine? You been trading a little Addie for a fix?”
In fact, they actually HAD traded the drugs for information, along with a tracking device. Humans can't use dopamine and adrenaline like other species can, so they traded it for the classic stuff.
"You can test me, I'm not high, I'm not a drug addict, I am also not who you think I am."
"And who are you?"
"My name is commander Adam Vir with the UNSC. I was sent here to HELP."
They did not seem in any way convinced,
"You have proof of that "Commander"? Look I saw the guy once, and he wasn't half as fugly as you, also he was taller."
Commander Vir yelped in indignation as they began patting him down for the second time,
"Who you calling fugly you-"
He bit his tongue,
"I'm sorry OFFICER but I had my implants discontinued for this operation. Just look at me I'm missing an eye and a leg and im 6,2 just like the man you say I'm not, and I also let my hair grow out. Give me five minutes on the phone and I'll call my superiors for you."
"Uh huh, because they'd have the fleet commander down here crawling through the dirt after narcos and tweakers. This is the army, officers sit behind their nice shiny desks and let other men die for them."
Commander Vir was pulled away from the wall,
"What are you his junkie cousin, a brother?"
"I told you who I am."
"Someone check the bug, see if he has ID."
Krill stiffened as a wand was run over him,
"Nothing sir. That's strange, usually don't see their kind around here."
"I get my phone call, don't I?”
"What do you think this is the 2000s? The hormone crisis is a level 5 threat, and we are not obligated to provide you with anything."
"I'm pretty sure I still get a lawyer."
Commander Vir was hauled to his feet and marched bodily towards the door,
"Yeah but you'll have to get one flown in unless you want a Tesraki, and I wouldn't trust one of those bastards as far as I can throw them.... Uh disgusting little bats."
Commander Vir seemed almost irked at the use of the slur. Humans had a habit of that, they had a slur for each of other species, whether it be bug, beetle, bat, dino, or just the general use of the word freak.
They were dragged outside, and around to where the vehicles had been hidden. The commander tripped more than once over the cheap prosthetic he had used to augment his look, and every time he was dragged painfully back to his feet. Krill wasn't treated much better though he only received one of the human officers. Krill was thrown in the back of a cruiser with bars and energy shields over the windows. Commander Vir was thrown against the front of the vehicle,
"As of now, you'll be charged with the possession of illegal substance, intent to sell, failure to identify, unlawful possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest."
"What!? I didn't resist, and I DID identify myself. It's not my fault you won't believe me."
"Someone get a spit shield on him. He is uncooperative."
"What, I."
He was pinned even more forcibly against the hood as a female officer secured a Galactic Assembly issued muzzle over his face. They had developed those after realizing what human spit could do to certain species, and what the human voice could do to others. Once on, the officer flipped the dial, cutting off the commander mid protest.
Once done, he was thrown into the back with Krill gagged and restrained. Krill felt as if he was going to pass out, or just go right ahead and die. They had been captured by human authorities that even commander Vir couldn't talk down, and the ones that weren't nearly as understanding as they were on earth.
Things could only get worse.
The policemen were talking to each other in a joking tone, like it was an everyday situation for them. Krill listened with growing horror.
”Possession of illegal substance, intent to sell, failure to identify, unlawful possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest. That on top of attacking an officer I would say right?"
”Oh yeah he definitely tried to shoot me, I barely even got out alive.”
”Well then, lets get them to our little version of Alcatraz and make sure they get thrown into a dark cell and never come back. It’s almost the end of the day and I want to go home.
”Yeah I am sure we can skip most documentation and just lock them away, its not like someone will miss them or something. Plus it is a big planet after all and things happen…

Intro post by me
OC-whole collection
Patreon of the author
Thanks for reading! As you saw in the title, this is a cross posted story written by starrfallknightrise and I'll just upload some of it here for you guys, if you are interested and want to read ahead, the original story-collection can be found on tumblr or wattpad to read for free. (link above this text under "OC:..." ) It is the Empyrean Iris story collection by starfallknightrise. Also, if you want to know more about the story collection i made an intro post about it, so feel free to check that out to see what other great characters to look forward to! (Link also above this text). I have no affiliations to the author; just thought I’d share some of the great stories you might enjoy a lot!
Obviously, I have Charlie’s permission to post this and for the people already knowing the stories, or starting to read them: If you follow the link and check out the story you will see some differences. I made some small (non-artistic) changes, mainly correcting writing mistakes, pronoun correction and some small additional info here and there of things which were not thought of/forgotten or even were added/changed in later stories (like the “USS->UNSC” prefix of Stabby, Chalar=/->Sunny etc). As well as some "biggemajor" changes in descriptions and info’s for the same stringency/continuity reason. That can be explained by the story collection being, well a story collection at the start with many standalone-stories just starring the same people, but later on it gets more to a stringent storyline with backstories and throwbacks. (For example Adam Vir has some HEAVY scars over his body, following his bones, which were not really talked about up till half the collection, where it says it covers his whole body and you find out via backflash that he had them the whole time and how he got them, they just weren't mentioned before. However, I would think a doctor would at least see these scars before that, especially since he gets analyzed, treated and goes shirtless/in T-shirts in some stories). So TLDR: Writing and some descriptions are slightly changed, with full OK from the author, since he himself did not bother to correct these things before.

2023.04.02 14:37 ashalim12 [US] Sealed Ohio blue seal playing cards - Tally Ho, Steamboat, Aladdin, Arrco, Virginia Slims, Aviators
| Hi All, Those of you who have been on this sub long enough may know that I had hundreds of blue seals for sale in the past. I sold the bulk of them years ago and thought I'd hang onto the rest for personal use, but decided to sell a few more here. These are the last Ohio blue seal "classics" I plan to put up for sale for a while (if not ever), since any I sell after this would be truly my last ones. Prices may be negotiable if you can show me a recent listing or sale, but since these are some of the last blue seals I have, I'm firm on my prices otherwise. Aside from the Aladdins, tucks are in good condition but likely not perfect (e.g., possible dinged corners, light scratches). Tally and Arrcos are in cello, the rest are not. Prices are in USD for PayPal F&F or other fee-free methods, please add 4% for G&S. Tally Ho circle back: Q1 top quality, ordered from a magic supplier in the mid-2000s, better quality than the Tallies you'd find in stores at the time. $30 Steamboat 999: Both in great condition but one tuck is noticeably yellower than the other, presumably older but not clear to me. Feel free to specify which one you want if both are available. Both are original Steamboats, NOT reprints by D&D. $30 each Aladdins: Newer Aladdins (including newer blue seals) have the back design on one side of the tuck and indicate smooth finish vs. air cushion. These are the OG Aladdins, made when smooth finish was the default. Corner of the tuck is dented (I believe good condition ones would sell for ~$40). $30 Arrcos: $30 each, $50 for the pair Virginia Slims: $10 each Aviators: $15 each, $25 for the pair Shipping in the US is $6 for 1-2 decks, $9 for 3-6. Larger orders or international shipping will be calculated upon request. Check out my other recent listings to see if you want to combine shipping! Dealersgrip decks Thanks! https://preview.redd.it/kzdwh7oqtgra1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=67941876372332a0a4da8bea7fae8b7cdbcce549 https://preview.redd.it/5usug6oqtgra1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1f46ed43da5fce1c05bc165926bb27556935bd37 submitted by ashalim12 to PlayingCardsMarket [link] [comments] |
2023.04.02 14:36 Sare-rah How do you soldier on through exhaustion, anxiety and time constraints?
I am a 27 year old woman, single, who eats healthy, go to the gym and challenges myself there, plays netball with a great team of women, whose studying at uni and almost graduated and looking at gaining some extra basic skills to use towards the future and am looking at changing jobs soon once I'm further prepared. I am finding it increasingly hard to get through the work days, and try and find a time for everything while also find time to relax. My mental health is seriously declining and I really don't feel like myself.
I'm exhausted by my current work, where I'm a full-time supervisor at a pet store. The work is hard and its becoming meaningless, and we are inundated with customers constantly, to the point we barely get any of our store jobs and stock done, and my manager predominantly spends his time in the office doing other tasks while I am usually running the show on the floor, which means I am sorting out the staff, monitoring task progression, doing refunds and receiving stock as well as serving customers and doing my other jobs. My 2IC is not as motivated as me, and tends to skate by on the bare minimum. The company also is steadily getting worse and worse by the day, with little support and communication given to staff who are constantly dealing with marketing and ticketing issues, which takes up a large part of our day.
When I get home at the end of the day I just want to crash. I don't want to do anything, not work on my uni or go to the gym. I just want to eat and drink and waste time on TikTok and then eventually sleep. I don't have many people to talk too, as a lot of my friends are dealing with their own stuff, and my family doesn't understand nor care, and my brother is being particularly hard on me to hurry it up with getting my life on track. This only increases my anxiety and makes me less motivated as there is so much that needs to be done to get my life in order, but I feel utterly and totally exhausted and alone. I don't know how I am going to get the motivation to do well on my final units at uni, find a new job, keep it up at the gym, still eat healthy and get consistent good night sleeps, and start to develop better relationships and build new skills all while saving money for the future.
Has anyone pulled themselves out of a place like this and managed to improve their circumstances? How did you battle through despite exhaustion? Any advice?
Thanks!

2023.04.02 14:35 JimPalamo Speculating about Zava's motivations.
If this were real-world football, when a world class player like Zava (or his IRL equivalent Zlatan) is on the market and has top clubs like Chelsea chasing his signature, there's no way he would agree to sign for a much smaller club like Richmond, who are predicted to be mid-table at best, or battling relegation at worst. Big clubs can guarantee higher wages, and a better chance of winning trophies, which is ultimately what professional players want.
I can't help thinking Zava has some other hidden motivation for joining Richmond which will be revealed to us later. What do you guys think that might be?

2023.04.02 14:31 L_obsoleta Tracking Product Usage - What I've learned
Sorry for formatting (I'm on mobile).
I began tracking my product usage in mid January. So while not a full 3 months it's essentially the first quarter of the year so I figured I should give an update.
I tracked all haircare, skincare, body and makeup usage. I will write what I have learned bellow.
- I'm 34 and have never had a consistent skincare routine until this year. I have managed to do a full skincare routine morning and night outside about 5 days (typically when I am really sick, like most recently with a stomach bug my son brought home). For some reason the enjoyment of updating my spreadsheet with daily usage has been sufficient to keep me consistent (and my skin has never looked better).
- The products I enjoy the most in my skincare routine tend to be from 2 brands. One of which I had always avoided because I viewed their products as relatively 'basic' and not up to current formulation standards (but they were exactly what I needed cause I have dry sensitive skin prone to eczema). I going forward plan to pick products based on the ingredients, and try to ignore any preconceived notions of a brand based on marketing.
- An exception to that is that there are some brands that I have just had bad luck with. While I'm sure it is more likely the specific products didn't work for me I plan to just avoid those brands going forward.
- I am very much someone who needs routine. So if I don't do something every day I probably won't do it at all. While I have only missed a handful of days of skincare I learned I also only wore makeup 2 times. And those two times it was just mascara. Clearly I don't need any more makeup since I'm not even using what I have. While I will going forward keep mascara for use, idk that I will replace anything else. My current formal look is just mascara anyway.
- In terms of haircare (I have very fine thin hair) I've realized I should stop buying conditioner, I'm using up what I have but and planning on not buying any more. My leave in/detangler is sufficient for the level of moisture my hair tolerates.
- Lastly while I will spend time on skincare, I am just lazy about everything else. If it can't be done quick I'm not interested. A lot of purchases are for a version of me that doesn't exist, a version that can spend 30 extra minutes on getting ready for the day. But that's not my reality currently, and honestly even if I had the available time I would rather spend it doing something else.
Likely won't post again with any other things I learned until the end of the year. But seeing everything in numbers has helped me separate hone in on areas where it just isn't worth spending money for me.

2023.04.02 14:31 Scrape_Sunn Light Phone 2 Review
my thoughts below on how to improve the light phone for next release:
- better battery - so many people say the same thing. and they are all correct. the battery sucks. which is odd for such a minimal phone. also my battery completely died after about 4 months of use. i've had recent phones like the aspera tough phone (don't get it they are so not tough) and it was a fairly small phone, and the battery will literally last for days with regular use, and honestly weeks with no use. a decent battery is like everyone's priority in a phone. i would pay extra for it;
- better electronic paper screen - the refresh rate is often. i don't know much about electronic paper screen technology, but i do know that when typing out longer texts on the light phone 2 it would refresh so often and regularly result in the screen freezing. the phone is supposed to allow you to spend less time with your phone, not more time frigging around with frozen screens trying to finish typing a text;
- ability to text in portrait - this was one thing that really surprised me. i found myself asking, why? why not have the ability to text in portrait when everything else on the phone is in portrait? which leads me to #4;
- slightly bigger in size overall - i was shocked at how small the phone was when i opened the box. they must be using some hand models with small hands over at marketing, cause the phone looks bigger on the website. when i showed my wife she was like, nah it's good you can easily stash it in your wallet or whatever. which yeh, but not at the expense of being able to type a text with even the slightest degree of accuracy. my hands aren't massive, i'd say maybe slightly above average, but even my wife who does have smaller hands was having the same issue that i was. typing words with accuracy and speed was unachievable for both of us. the touch screen keyboard is below average size. throw in a screen refresh every 20 seconds or whatever and you're again spending longer than you should on your phone retyping words you've thumb mangled and waiting for your screen to unfreeze after the 4th refresh. less time on phone. not more;
- flash light - this was pretty much the only thing i found myself reaching for and not having. a torch app on this phone would make it rule imo. not a deal breaker (the above 4 were, in case you haven't picked up on that), but it would great to have a... light;
- directions app that can zoom in/out - i actually wasn't expecting to use the directions app at all, which is a good thing because it is woeful. it's fairly well zoomed right in, and you can't scroll around cause it's an electronic paper screen, so you have to press 'next page' to see ahead, and it all just gets really clunky and confusing. i use a good old street directory in the car, but when out walking it would be amazing to have a gps app that worked well. again not a deal breaker, and this app would get you out of a bind in an emergency. but it takes too long to use effectively;
- larger memory - i didn't actually get around to adding any music or podcasts to my light phone (prob cause i realised early on i would not stick with it) so i can't comment on the music and podcast app functionality, but the option to have music is great. and so the option to have more music is always good.
i really wanted this phone to work for me, and overall i think they've done a great job with the concept of a minimalist phone. i love the design. i love the idea of an electronic paper touch screen. i love being able to hotspot for work. i like being restricted to an online dashboard to add or remove apps. i like being able to choose what apps are on my phone. but if ultimately i am spending more time feeling annoyed with my phone because i've mistyped another tiny text message, or the phone has frozen, or a call has cut out for no reason, or my slick electronic paper screen just looks at me in all its grayscale beauty and simply says 'fatal error' and then switches off the phone, then i will revert back to an iphone 7 that i have reduced to as much of a minimalist phone as i can, and continue to wait for a company to get it right.

2023.04.02 14:31 ggamerking Thoughts on the future of the industry in regards to AI?
Some of you surely have dabbled with Midjourney and are aware of its potential and limitations. But this Instagram account I was shown the other day completely blew me away.
It's run by Creative Director Federico Donelli, who is using Midjourney to create - in my eyes - insanely real looking photos of models in a studio setting.
Given that we're still just at the start of the journey, what's everyones thoughts as to how the industry will change in 1, 2, 5 years time - whether that's for brands, photographers, assistants, Digi-Techs, etc. ...?

2023.04.02 14:30 TheBarnacle63 Beating the SCHD out of SCHD? It’s not that hard, and it's time to start talking stocks.
I took a look at some of my past holdings, including some backtesting going back to 2008. I always backtest to make sure what I am doing actually works. Here is how I screen for Large-Cap Income stocks.
- Large U.S. Companies
- No Mining Companies
- No REITs
- Current Operating Margin > Operating Margin 5-Year Average
- Debt-to-Equity < 0.4 or 40%
- Current Ratio > 1.5
- Positive Operating Cash Flow
- Positive Income (TTM)
- Historical Payout Ratio < 50%
- Yield > 2%
- Annual Dividend Increase for Ten Consecutive Years
Starting with 2012, here are the calendar returns of the screen compared to SCHD.
https://preview.redd.it/fooeaz92mgra1.png?width=902&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ad2174a510d99e215d883b50ef84d3c3f19bd0f At the beginning of the year, the passing companies were:
- Snap-On, Inc. (SNA) 8.35%
- A.O. Smith Corp. (AOS) 17.95%
- Robert Half International, Inc. (RHI) 10.14%
- Pfizer Inc (PFE) -19.68%
- Average 4.19%
- SCHD -2.22%
I do have data going back to the beginning of 2008 that shows that this approach has outperformed the S&P 500 too. Here is the 12-Month Rolling Average data to support that claim. Note that this approach beats the S&P 500 68% of the time, and by a wide margin.
12-Month Rolling Average Data | | Total Portfolios | From | To | Holdings | Large Cap Income | S&P 500 Index | Excess | Volatility |
| Average | 719 | 12/29/2007 | 3/28/2023 | 5.86 | 16.58% | 11.65% | 4.94% | 20.22% |
| Up Markets | 598 | | | 6.34 | 20.81% | 17.01% | 3.80% | |
| Down Markets | 121 | | | 3.50 | -4.30% | -14.84% | 10.54% | |
All Averages Arithmetic | | | | | | | | | |
When I do something similar where I compare this approach to SCHD (9/16/2013-3/28/2023), this approach beats SCHD 62% of the time, and the rolling average (16.37%) is far superior to SCHD's 11.39%.
What’s Passing Now? As I have shared these past few days, the only passing companies are Snap-On and Robert Half. As a disclosure, I own A.O. Smith and Snap-On.
P.S. For those of you who automatically downvote anything negative about SCHD, I suggest you actually start doing some real research and due diligence. The data is pretty overwhelming that it is possible to beat an index.
Disclosure: The rolling average data only includes data for the periods where there were passing companies.

2023.04.02 14:28 Phlebotimist434321 Did I do the right thing? I can be rash at times. I have big bad insecurities. Need perspective, desperately.
So four nights ago, I (36f) saw that my bf's (45), facebook status had changed to single. I confront him about it, he says he didn't change it. I had a previous boyfriend that did the same thing. The next day, I feel all my insecurities in full force and I cave (or come to my senses, depending on how you see it). I start talking to him again and he's mad at me for being insecure and not trusting that he really didn't change his facebook status on purpose. I apologize profusely and we get back together. (I love this guy.)
Two nights ago, we were all made up and back together, when I see that he had recently friended a cam girl and another local single lady (could be innocent, but still) Now his standard excuse for friending models (which he does frequently) is that he doesn't know who these people are, he just accepts friend requests. That combined with the fact that he has absolutely no pictures of us in his photos, yet does have a picture of him and his ex from Christmas, pushed me over the deep end and I decide to leave him again.
I found all of this after he had gotten off of facebook for the night. I send him a breakup text. We've been together for about two months, and I seriously think he's cheating on me, otherwise I would have done it in person. After sending the break up text, I block him and consider myself to be in no contact with him.
Last night, or sometime yesterday, he texted me from a different phone than usual. I didn't open it, but the preview text was asking me if I was drunk. I had three shots when this whole ordeal started four days ago. But I was 100% straight when I went no contact.
My question is, is there any possible way I am making a mistake here? I do have big bad insecurities, but I've never heard of facebook changing a relationship status on its own. And he could have an explanation as to why there are no pictures of us on his profile, when he used to have several. And I understand that friending a model and a local single isn't the same as cheating.

2023.04.02 14:27 Ataraxidermist [PI] In hell, people can choose what happens to them. They can choose literally ANYTHING. Naturally, many people try to exploit this by going for luxuries and pampering, but the devil ALWAYS has ways to torture those fools...
Link to the original prompt. And so it came that Amber chose sleep. Blissful sleep, of a kind that feels like a wonder as you dwell in it, of a kind that rejuvenates mind and body upon waking up.
Amber decided never to wake up again. Hell offered little in the way of second-rate mortality, only in strange aeons could death die, but both Satan and God were too old for weird Old Testament stuff and had cast off Cthulhu a long time ago.
Toby - previously named Satan but unsatisfied with the mismatching expectations of the newly dead meeting him - took note of Amber's fate. He wrote with a Montblanc pen, the notebook had been crafted with the finest leather and marketed at ridiculously inflated price, but you had to admit that the absence of noise it made when you opened it had something classy to it.
So here was Toby, dressed in his impeccable and absurdly expensive suit, standing on the lush grass of Hell, taking note while looking at the verdant hills rolling in the distance. It was a warm day in hell, but a fresh breeze kept its dwellers fresh.
Wonderful workplace, but it made customers think they got to the Heavens when they most definitely didn't. Sartre once wrote
L'Enfer, c'est les autres - Hell is others. As Toby could testify, Sartre was full of it, and Toby made him cry a lot until Sartre accepted to write the sign:
Hell is others, actually no, it isn't, sorry. - Sartre It hung at the entrance of hell right under the following sign:
Arbeit macht frei. Nein, eigentlich nicht, entschuldigung. - Rommel Which itself hung right underneath this one:
Ye who enter here, abandon all hope. Or not. How was I supposed to know? I'm an artist, not a theologian. - Dante Somehow, this got customers even more confused.
Currently though, this didn't matter too much, for Toby had decided to give Hell a new spin recently.
To newcomers, he gave the following speech:
"Hello there, fellas," eventual confetti would be thrown here, "welcome to Hell with a capital H," flamethrowers would melt the confetti in mid-air right there, "but it's not what you think it is. You can pick your poison. Wealth? Women? An unending buffet? A successful invasion in Afghanistan? The sky is the limit... But wait, we're already there."
At this point, Archangel Gabriel dressed in a Giorgio Armani suit, would join the conversation and say "I'm the archangel Gabriel, and this is my favorite Hell in the afterlife."
After the first speech, it was noted that the flaming confetti diverted the customer's attention away from the spoken words, and a customer asked if there isn't supposed to be only one hell anyway, which vexed Gabriel immensely. Schedule conflict made it hard for him to be there for each arrival anyway.
So instead, Toby sat on leather chairs with the newly dead around a mahogany desk, he offered them tea, and explained the situation.
And that's how Amber chose sleep.
They walked out together, to the open fields under a cloudy sky. Little need to find a bed inside, the grass offered ample comforts, the temperature was always just right.
"Good night," said Toby, tipping his luxury pen against his chin.
Amber. She had suffered a lot. Admittedly, her dossier contained a surfeit of excuses for why she would turn into a horrible person. Broken household, terrible neighborhood, all the little things life puts together to make existence just a little bit worse. And excuses were worth something. She was human, no being was expected to behave perfectly, except God and Toby. Others could - no, had every
right - to falter, to be weak, to be exposed, to fail to learn a lesson, to reach an epiphany.
But excuses only take you that far. Circumstances of birth matter little, it is what you do with a life that makes the difference. Even the Pokemon movie got that part right, and Toby was the first to criticize it.
Leave life a little bit better than you found it, for yourself and others. There, that's all it takes to reach Paradise on the first try. What belief or lack of belief you have matters little, as long as you sincerely try to do things right.
Being blinded by belief and deluding yourself into thinking you're doing the right thing doesn't count though.
Amber didn't get that part. Turns out, there's a long swath of scorched Earth built on good intentions behind her. Poor kids.
Naturally, she would pick sleep. All her life, she only ever aimed to have a sanctuary to herself. A place where she'd feel safe, secure, where the world outside couldn't touch her. A perfect sanctuary doesn't exist, but it's a part of escapism that's essential to the human condition, it helps a mind to recover, provides place and time to grow. She never got that.
And now, in the best sanctuary of them all, she chose to sink into the cushion a little further.
Toby took his jacket off, rolled his sleeves up and sat under the shade of a nearby, lonely but tall and large tree.
Archangel Gabriel was doing his daily jogging, he saw Toby's muscular forearms and whistled.
"Fuck you," said Toby, "and come by at the office, I still owe you a snooker game."
Amber stirred in her sleep. What else could she do but dream? First she dreamed the usual happy nonsense. She had lots of material to make things up, an entire human life of experience and imagination.
This was eternity.
A mind can only mull over the same subjects over and over again before getting bored. So the mind goes deeper, to the parts that are never remembered upon waking up, because they hurt. The mind dreams about life. Not from imagination, but from memory first, with all the rose tinted glasses. The life is gone through a hundred times.
A thousand.
An innumerable number of times.
And with each passage, with each revival of what was, life is honed.
First comes the rose-tinted glasses. The good and the bad, polished into a more digestible story. Until, somewhere in eternity, the glass slips, and is lost in the great nowhere. Other tricks are used, wishful thinking as if it had truly been so, double thinking, re-framing words and select moments to influence a narrative.
But with each passage, what was not and what was becomes clearer, almost brilliant.
Until memories cease to be. And what's left is the naked truth.
In her unending sleep, Amber cannot rely on the forgetfulness of waking up. She'd scream in the void,
no, that's not how it was, that's not what I did. I did better, I gave them something I never had. Ah Amber, Toby thinks, now you know. You know you only deluded yourself into thinking you gave a safe home the likes you never had to those poor kids. No, Amber, you couldn't provide it to yourself, you certainly couldn't provide it to them either. Not with the veneer of that fake smile, not with this self-righteous belief to top it off. At least your own parents weren't nearly as hypocritical.
Sobs.
"Woken up, have we?" Toby asked.
Amber had buried herself under the weight of the truth. It's hard to sleep with heavy rocks compressing your chest.
"How long have I been asleep?" she asked.
"Who knows in this place," Toby shrugged.
"You're a sadist," she said between sobs.
Toby's voice became mellow.
"Amber. I haven't done a thing."
"I didn't... I didn't want that, not like that. Not like that."
"No point telling me that. A swig?" Toby handed her his flask, a shiny and clean metallic flask indicating that no matter how far this person is addicted to alcohol, at least they do it with class.
Amber took a sip, felt her throat burning, spit it all out.
"What the hell is it?"
"An expensive drink," mumbled Toby, "can't even trust these heathens to appreciate the good stuff. Anyway! follow me, we have somewhere to be and I got appointments soon."
"Just... just let me vanish."
Toby loomed over her, his shadows expanded, for the span of a singular moment, his faces showed the ugliness of eternal torture, horns made of calcified wants and disappointments, wings of cold and despair. And in that singular moment of dark glory, the devil said:
"No. Now get your ass up. Pretty please?"
Toby walked, and after some uneasy second-guessing, Amber stood up and followed him.
Hell was lovely as always. They went beyond hill and dale, crossed a forest where the smell of pine was an invitation to sit by a tree and look at the squirrels playing in the branches, they crossed a bridge over a lazy river, they walked in a prairie of dandelions.
"Where are we going?" asked Amber.
"To the foot of a mountain in Paradise."
"I don't deserve Paradise."
"Who cares? We crossed into it when we passed that bridge."
Amber pondered the information for a moment.
"That rickety old thing?"
"Yup. People are always surprised how close Heaven and Hell are. Anyway..."
It came into view. The mountain. A pillar to carry a universe, impossibly wide, the top disappearing among the stars, infinity made stone.
"Now," started Toby at the foot of the mountain, "normally I'd give you the whole speech about
you're pardoned, God loves you, Santa Claus actually does exist. But," Toby opened his notebook, "I've got an appointment with... a little girl? Gabriel must have mixed the schedules again. So anyway, congrats. You're worthy or paradise, hurray, you're forgiven, yay, bla bla bla. But there's something after Paradise, Hell and the purgatory. There's more. I tried explaining that once with a powerpoint, but your minds can't really grasp it."
Toby started to walk away, while a surprised Amber was sort of hoping he would finish the explanation.
"Up there, there's transcendence, the
real stuff, and incidentally why we haven't seen many people because Heaven and Hell are just a pit stop. That's where you're headed, it's where we're all headed."
Toby became smaller and smaller in the distance.
"How do I get there?" shouted Amber.
Toby turned around and extended his arms.
"What do you think?" he shouted back, "You climb!"

2023.04.02 14:27 ninegagz Made $4,823 in 1 week creating apps with GPT-4 with zero coding skills
| https://preview.redd.it/tbdlt8kmngra1.png?width=1270&format=png&auto=webp&s=094385f8c712ab26df05701bec846135f86e295c I joined HustleGPT challenge approximately a week ago. The challenge is to build digital products with the help of GPT-4. I don't have any programming experience. But I've made a promise to myself that I must build at least 1 digital product every single day using GPT-4. On the 3rd day of challenge, I've built an app for MacOS that allows you to use ChatGPT inside of any text field in Mac. This app alone has generated me over $3k. My other apps brought me $1,8k in revenue in less than a week. (attached a screenshot from my Gumroad dashboard). I've posted about this on another subreddit. It gained more than 500k views. And the most popular question there was "What prompt did you use?". Most people don't understand that GPT-4 doesn't work that way. It wasn't a result of just 1 single prompt. I use advanced prompting methods which allow me to combine GPT-4 with No Code tools. It is more like a conversation between two of us and the result of this conversation is a working app. Now I can create a fully working mobile app/web app/website and etc. in just a couple of hours. I even created 1 hypercasual mobile game. Right now it's on review on Play Market and App Store. After 100s of similar questions about how I build my apps so fast, I've decided to create a guide. It's based on all of my knowledge about more than 700 AI tools, 50+ No Code tools, Advanced prompting methods and etc. You can get it here if you are interested. It has everything you need to build apps/websites/web apps/chatbots/games/basically any digital product. No coding experience needed. submitted by ninegagz to ChatGPTCoding [link] [comments] |
2023.04.02 14:25 UltimateBALL Phone went into bootloop and Qualcomm CrashDump Mode HELP
I love this phone so much, and this afternoon, for some reason it went black and keep on restarting. Sometimes it successfully boots up but restarts in a while (not even a minute), and the screen sometimes looks glitched, sometimes it even enters into a screen saying "Qualcomm CrashDump" and a bunch of logs. Having factor reset as a last resort... I want to at least retrieve all my irreplacable (yeah, what is, right?) photos and videos out before it turns into a brick... any suggestions?

2023.04.02 14:25 Material-Memory-7370 Expats being harassed by local, what can we do?
Throwaway account obvs.
My husband and some of his work friends go to bar nights to engage in a geeky hobby. One of the guys who goes to this was dating a Thai woman who seemed normal if not a little excitable, at least the couple times I met her anyways. She has an office job and speaks English well enough to keep up with expats.
The guy she was with broke up with her and she showed up at the bar night and made a scene. My husband took it upon himself to go outside with her to talk her into leaving. Because there is a Line group for the bar night, she had my husband's contact info and texted him later to thank him for "being too nice." He gave a cursory "no problem, good luck" response. A couple days later, she texted him to ask if he wanted to have a coffee with her, and he didn't respond. Then she texted him a selfie a couple days after that, which he also ignored. The next day, she texted him to ask if he lives in the neighborhood in which we live and an hour later sent a photo of our condo building, which was creepy and he blocked her. The next night we came home from dinner and she was in front of our condo. She yells that my husband is in love with her, got her pregnant, and now she's going to have the baby and she's going to go get him arrested if he doesn't pay support.
I know many people here will be like "lololol your husband knocked up a Thai girl lololol" except there is an issue that makes this impossible. My husband is a transman, and while he is buff with a lush well-groomed beard, he doesn't even have a penis. Beyond that, my husband has a very strong sexual aversion to women who are very thin/flat because they remind him of when he was living as a teenage girl and forcing himself to date boys, and that's exactly this girl's body.
We're not sure what to do here. The only explanation we have for her being at the condo is she must have followed him home from a distance after a bar night. Our security knows not to let her in, but she's threatening to call his job, she's spammed all the people in the bar night group about it (luckily they all know it's bullshit). We're anxious about possibly getting police involved because my husband was born in a western country and has the passport, but he belongs to an ethnic group that faces a lot of prejudice in Thailand and he's already been subjected to that. The only person in his social group who knows he's trans is a friend whom he's known since college, which was pre-transition, and we'd rather not have to out him.
If this girl is actually pregnant, does she have any legal recourse prior to a paternity test that would obviously clear my husband? Is there anything we can do to take protections as expats? I know slander laws here are crazy and usually favor Thais.

2023.04.02 14:24 NocturneCaligo Does anyone else get tattoo envy when they look at other peoples tattoos of the same or similar subject that artistically look more appealing than your own tattoo? (even if you’re normally happy with your own)
Finished my first tattoo a few days ago so it’s very likely just new tattoo insecurity but I flip between being really happy about how it turned out and then kinda regretful about not waiting for a more artist with a more appealing/distinct style to visit my city. Another thing is I think it looks great as a whole when i see it in photos and in the mirror but when i look down and closer at the details, I get a bit insecure haha.
