On March 17, New York City letter carriers voted to defy the law and go on strike. Clerks and other postal workers refused to cross their picket lines. Then, the wildcat strike suddenly spread across the country. By the following week, 200,000 postal workers from New England to California had walked off the job. Time called it the largest walkout ever against the Federal government.
President Richard Nixon vowed to crush the postal workers. "We have the means to deliver the mail," he claimed. It was a hollow claim. He dispatched 23,000 United States Armed Forces personnel to New York City to process the mail, but without proper training, there was no way they could do the job. Meanwhile, courts were busy serving injunctions and imposing fines against union leaders.
Finally, the Post Office Department figured out it needed postal workers.
It went into serious bargaining with the postal unions. Within one day, they reached a preliminary agreement and the postal workers went back on the job. After a final agreement was hammered out a month later, the postal workers won a 6 percent wage increase—and that summer, President Nixon signed the Postal Reorganization Act that gave the postal workers an additional 8-percent raise.

I finally mustered enough courage to drop my insecurities and went to a Korean spa yesterday, and I can sum up the experience as “before” and “after”
Before
Even pulling into the driveway felt awkward. What if someone I know is here? What if it’s family or coworkers? What if they recognize my car?
The checking in process felt like 1000 eyeballs checking me out. I couldn’t help but in my head hear “so I’m gonna be showering with this dude”. I felt I was being judged by the entire room, my imagination got to me again and told me the staff behind the desk was saying “what’s this man doing here”
I push through the mental fog, check in, get my key, go to my locker, make sure it’s just me and then I strip. and now we are in the after.
After
I step into the main area where there a couple other guys already nude and no head turns? No laughing? … … okay! This might be cool!
I walk into the bathhouse, a dozen or so other guys all nude different ages, sizes, shapes, and colors and again, no head turns and no laughing! What the fuck?
I hit my first “snag” when the fully clothed worker sees me heading to the hot tub before taking a shower, and it was just nonchalant, no looking down, just a regular employee saying go take a shower. … okay!
Now I walk again in the main area thinking people are gonna laugh because I didn’t shower first, but no. No one bothered, it was almost as if it was just me, being there.
What was crazy to me is I though I would catch myself ogling others, or others ogling me but no, it was like second nature. Originally I was scared of even sporting an accidental boner, but nothing of the sort happened. It was truly an eye opening experience.
I will be returning, once a week maybe. Next time, I’m getting a scrub.

I made a claim for my childcare FSA last week and 4 of 10 of the months were denied because of reasons (receipt didn't specify month of service for one, didn't have receipt for other three, just cashed checks). I got a fully itemized receipt a few days later from the school and tried to resubmit today and realized that it's now past the 2022 grace period, which I didn't realize was a thing. Usually I submit my claim when I'm doing my taxes and I guess I'm doing them later than usual this year. I'm freaking out because it looks like I just gave my employer a $2000 donation and they certainly don't need it more than I do. Am I out of luck? Are there any strategies y'all would suggest when I call the benefits administrator Monday morning?

The president of the World Bank has told the BBC that he is concerned about some of the loans China has been making to developing economies in Africa.
A new study led by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy shows that globally China lent $185bn in bailouts to 22 countries between 2016 and 2021.
China refutes suggestions that it is exploiting other countries with its financial support.
At a press conference this week Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said China "Respects the will of relevant countries, has never forced any party to borrow money, has never forced any country to pay, will not attach any political conditions to loan agreements, and does not seek any political self-interest".
"If you think of the history of Western lending, sometimes it's not for the full benefit of the people in the countries. Even World Bank loans haven't always been for the best that could have been done in a country."
The outgoing World Bank president is also concerned that higher food, fertiliser and energy prices, as a result of the war in Ukraine, are sapping government budgets in poorer countries.

Been living in this place for a year and for our 2nd year the leasing agency forced us to agree to a "resident benefits package" that's mostly a scam and, you have to pay for their building insurance (you cant claim anything you own with this insurance) and get like 4 air filters per year for $35 a month.
Anyway, it was impossible to renew the lease without also agreeing to the benefits package. That being said, the lease was not changed in any way other than a $25 yearly increase.
My question is, what would happen if I just didn't pay? If the rental agency wanted to go after me wouldn't it just be in small claims court and not renters court? I wouldn't be breaking anything in the lease, but I would be breaking something I agreed to in a renewal agreement.

Hi all,
New to fibromyalgia and Reddit, so bear with if I make some sort of faux pas.
I've only been on a fibro diet for 2/3 weeks and I'm dying of boredom. I'm quite lucky I was brought up to enjoy all food and to cook, but I'm so goddamn sick of fish, turkey and chicken with veg or wild rice. I've cut out tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, bread, pasta, red meat, dairy, chilli, sugar and booze.
I've just started (in the last two days) seeing the benefits as my pain is much easier to deal with and there's definitely a little weight loss if I squint hard enough in good light.

New to fibromyalgia and Reddit, so bear with if I make some sort of faux pas.
I've only been on a fibro diet for 2/3 weeks and I'm dying of boredom. I'm quite lucky I was brought up to enjoy all food and to cook, but I'm so goddamn sick of fish, turkey and chicken with veg or wild rice. I've cut out tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, bread, pasta, red meat, dairy, chilli, sugar and booze.
I've just started (in the last two days) seeing the benefits as my pain is much easier to deal with and there's definitely a little weight loss if I squint hard enough in good light.

I'm about to start a new contract with a company based in Sweden and would like to check if I will fall inside or outside of IR35 legislation in the UK
A few points I think might influence this:
- The company is a small company - less than 50 employees - The company does not have a permanent presence in the UK - I am a sole trader and I am not operating under a limited company - I am free to provide my services to other clients - In the contract I am described as an independent contractor and not an employee - I do not receive employee perks - I do not receive paid holiday or sick pay
Is there anything else I need to consider or do any of the points above put me firmly inside or outside IR35 legislation?

Disclaimer, I don't feel that I have 'typical' CFS anymore, if there really is such a thing, but I did feel like I had it initially and it was consistent for 5 years. In the past 3 years I began to accrue strange new symptoms though that are either a complication of ME/CFS, or another mystery disease on top of it, possibly CIRS or another environmentally induced disease. Its also possible that the symptoms i've been experiencing are just a linear progression of my previous root cause, but somehow I doubt that because they feel quite different.
Anyway the main symptoms I was struggling recently with was constant heavy fatigue and sensitive muscles, no tolerance for exercise as opposed to low tolerance. Food and mold sensitivities / semi unpredictable MCAS like reactions to things in the air, exercise, temperature changes, foods. Multiple chemical sensitivity which rapidly 'spreads' and has been ruining my life this year. This came after a year of wrist weakness, neck sensitivity, acute and or background dehydration and general neurological decline thats beyond my usual 'brain fog' or poor short term memory. Strange pains and sensations in my brain or fingers / jaw, difficulty swallowing, unreliable vision focus that comes and goes in both eyes, mimicking the need for glasses.
I tried many vitamins and supplements, a probiotic called miyarisan , raising vit D, chemical avoidance, voc avoidance, mold avoidance ( some benefit ) but it wasn't until I took small amounts of this activated charcoal that I saw rapid and substantial improvement alongside sustained 'detox' ( a fever like feeling with sweating that I dont ever remember experiencing when I just had what I felt was 'typical CFS' ).
Does anyone have any idea why it might be causing this effect ? it absorbs toxins in the stomach, and very very slowly toxins in the body tissues via recirculation, supposedly it normally takes months to benefit from this though. Mold people just say its a normal reaction to a binder because toxins are increased in the blood, making symptoms worse, but thats not what I experience which is a rapid resolution of the worst symptoms leaving me with just moderate 'typical cfs' on a good day.

Hi everyone!
I am an international student and have offers for SJSU CS and NCSU MCS for Fall 23. I am confused between them. Tried to compare the pros and cons and I am still left to decide.
NCSU :
Pro Low cost of living. University is better ranked. Ample part time jobs. Decent curriculum.
Cons : Location (Although it is has Rtp benefits, people have told me that it is more beneficial to the CE folks) High tution fees and no fee waivers given.
SJSU :
Pros : Location. Less tution fees. Has decent curriculum as well. Small cohort size.
Cons : High cost of living. No significant rankings. Less part time opportunities.
As an international student, I would be taking huge loans and to repay it as quickly as possible would be my primary goal.
SJSU is cheap but the cost of living and less part time opportunities make me scared. Also apart from Faang, I would also be interested in Fintech roles.
Also given the current situation, I see graduates struggling from both the universities to get an internship.
Any opinions would be appreciated! Is SJSU's reputation only good for Bay Area?
