Craigslist lynchburg household items

Newbie question. Best sites to sell on?

2023.06.04 09:19 NobodySpecialSCL Newbie question. Best sites to sell on?

Hey there, friends!
I'm new to flipping, and I just want to know which site is the best in terms of most user traffic and lowest cut taken (i.e. FB Marketplace says it takes a 5% cut of all profits, but I also read through some threads on here that it doesn't get a lot of views anymore.
Is Craigslist still a thing?
E-Bay would be fine except for that I've had bad experiences with their payment options in the past, so I'm wary.
Also, most of the items I want to sell would have to be picked up by the buyer due to size (furniture, appliances, etc.) so it'd have to be a site that allows that option.

New Health Transformation Programme assessment contracts for period from 2024 to 2029 awarded to Maximus, Capita and Ingeus
DWP Minister Tom Pursglove announced the outcome of the procurement process for Functional Assessment Services contracts under the Health Transformation Programme in four out of the five geographical lot areas.
In March 2019, the DWP announced the formation of the Health Transformation Programme to transition the separate work capability assessment for employment and support allowance and universal credit, and the personal independence payment (PIP) assessment service, into one unified, integrated service. The contracts for these assessments will run from 2024 to 2029 and the successful bidders for four of the five geographical lots are as follows -
The contract for Lot 3 (South West England) has yet to be awarded, and eagle eyes amongst you will notice that Atos (known as IAS - Independent Assessment Service) have not been awarded a contract - although it is not known if they applied.

Increase in the maximum amounts for childcare support in universal credit will come into effect from 28 June 2023
In addition, DWP confirmed that, from the same date, claimants will be able to receive help with their childcare costs up front when they enter work or significantly increase their hours.
The universal credit childcare cost maximum amounts will be increasing to £950.92 for one child and £1,630.15 for two or more children - up from the previous limits of £646.35 and £1,108.04 respectively.
The changes are provided for by the Universal Credit (Childcare) (Amendment) Regulations 2023 (SI.No.593/2023)

Social Security Scotland confirms that not all those eligible for best start grant school age payment will receive automatic awards
While the majority of eligible families will receive payments automatically from 1 June 2023, Social Security Scotland confirmed that some people will not receive awards automatically -
'... a small number of people who receive housing benefit are eligible for school age payment but not Scottish child payment. They must apply for school age payment from June 1 before the window closes on 29 February 2024.
Similarly, those who have chosen not to apply for Scottish child payment, and those who have opted out of automatic payments, should apply for school age payment from 1 June 2023.'
As a result, it advises people who do not receive an automatic award to seek more information and apply at mygov.scot or by calling 0800 182 2222.

New research from the Centre for Analysis of Social Exclusion (CASE) at the London School of Economics has found no evidence that the two-child policy increases employment
Introduced in April 2017, the two-child policy - which limits support for children in means-tested benefits to a maximum of two children per household (unless limited exceptions apply) - is designed in part to incentivise employment among affected families.
Setting out its results in Making work pay? The labour market effects of capping child benefits in larger families, CASE finds that, despite a large sample size in the quantitative data and multiple methodological approaches, there is no evidence - even suggestive - that capping child benefits at two children increases employment.

Third sector organisations in Scotland to be paid a fee for providing information to support disability benefit claims
Confirming that a £33.50 fee will be paid when organisations are asked by Social Security Scotland to complete a supporting information request form, the Scottish Government says that -
'People who are applying for disability benefits who find it difficult or face barriers gathering supporting information themselves will be able to name organisations to provide this for them. These can include third sector organisations that are helping them in their day-to-day lives, such as those offering social care or support during an illness.'
The Scottish Government also confirmed that third sector organisations who were asked to provide supporting information for clients receiving child disability payment or adult disability payment before the fee payments process was in place will be able to have their payments backdated.

2023.06.04 07:36 FlyingSaucer51 The unique “Quiet” type experience…

This forum has been an invaluable source of support for me. It's truly disheartening to witness new members joining, knowing that they are just embarking on their journeys.
I make it a point to read every single post in this forum, regardless of the specific subtype of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).
In my personal experience, my spouse exhibited the "quiet" type of BPD, and I believe that those who undergo the discard from this specific type are instantly traumatized in a significant way.
I don't mean to imply that we collectively have it worse when we are in love with a “quiet type.” It's more like a situation where you either pay the price little by little now, or all at once later.
With other types of BPD that manifest visible signs outwardly, the suffering is spread out over an extended period. It's a constant rollercoaster of good times and bad times, arguments and apologies, comfort and fear, and so on.
When I read about the other types of BPD, I genuinely empathize with the fact that the majority of the relationship felt confusing and unstable. I can't even imagine what it must have been like to go through all those continuous up and down experiences.
I can’t imagine what it must be like being sworn at, put down, called names, purposefully embarrassed, having household items destroyed, being stalked, etc. I also sense that the constant mood swings are draining. One moment you felt like the world was ending, and the next you felt safe again.
It seems like “quiet” BPD types vs. other types of BPD are very different experiences throughout the relationship phase.
However, it does seem that ALL the various types, including “quiet” BPDs, follow exactly the same path at discard.
I think the major difference at the end of the relationship is that the “quiet” type has been able to successfully hide their true identities right to the bitter end. Because they are so successful at long term deception, when the end comes for us, it’s a complete and utter shock of unexpected and devastating proportions.
When loving a “quiet” BPD individual, we often feel comfortable, content, and safe in our marriages.
They are so successfully skilled at never letting true feelings slip.
I think this is what’s so horrific and traumatic at the end with a quiet type.
Most of us never think there’s an issue so, when the end cane, it’s as if our partner suddenly died! It’s truly as traumatic as death and I can attest to this because my first wife did die suddenly.
With the other types of BPD sufferers, there are certainly many indicators that something is going wrong. The constant drama seems to keep them guessing and trying to sooth and repair the relationship after every outburst.
In my case, my wife was a beautiful, organized, and highly successful overachiever who had everyone fooled.
Only a few times, during our 15-year marriage, did I catch a glimpse of her true nature.
I have often wished that my wife had gotten angry with me. I truly needed to know what was going on inside her head. I wish she had snapped or yelled at me. If she had, I would have recognized that our marriage was deteriorating and attempted to take steps to save it.
It's like the old expression, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Well, with "quiet" BPD, you usually don't realize anything is broken until they're already out the door and gone forever.
I believe we all suffer in unique ways from different types of BPD.
However, I have noticed that people who have experienced other types might not fully understand the struggles of "quiet" type sufferers because our situation is somewhat distinct.
I’ve had more than a few members of this group criticize me and telling me that, because my wife’s behaviors didn’t match their wife’s actions, she wasn’t a true suffer of BPD. That’s nonsense.
I want to express my sympathy to all partners of individuals with any form of BPD.
But for my fellow sufferers dealing with a “quiet" type, we are left to experience ALL the pain ALL at once during the discard. The lack of any significant warning is truly what adds to our trauma and suffering.
To those of you who experienced the sudden end to your love, I’m so sorry.

2023.06.04 04:17 dreamygem WIBTA if I asked my roommates to move when they use my dining table?

I recently moved in with my boyfriend and his roommate. While BF and I own pretty much all of the furniture and household items that RM uses, we didn't have a dining room table. Since BF and I value sharing meals together we wanted to get one. RM liked the idea of having a table, so I asked him if he wanted to purchase it. Despite agreeing to, he never followed through even though he had the means to do so.
After waiting for months, I decided to start looking for tables myself. I found a two-seater table that my boyfriend and I liked, but I had concerns about it being too small. BF assured me it wouldn't be an issue. I did feel RM had ample opportunity to get his own table if he wanted a bigger one. He also has an unused second bedroom in our house that he could use to get his own later.
Eventually, BF and I bought the table, and while the roommate and his GF started spending more time at her place, they still use the table every weekend when they come over. This became frustrating for me because my boyfriend's days off are on the weekend, and the time we spend together couldn't be enjoyed at the table we purchased.
Moreover, RM doesn't contribute to household chores or supplies. BF and I have to handle all of the cleaning and most of the dishwashing because he forgets/neglects to do his share. I've tried setting boundaries, but it hasn't been very effective. To maintain peace and my own well-being, I've let these issues slide. However, it feels like I'm the one constantly compromising, while the roommate and his GF aren't making any efforts to improve the situation.
Given all these frustrations, I'm contemplating asking them to move from the dining table when we want to use it. Before taking this step, I want to know if I would be in the wrong for doing so. I don't want to be an asshole, but I also don't feel that it is fair for me to continue compromising for RM's benefit when he has never shown me that kind of consideration.
ETA: We ended up getting a smaller table because our previous efforts to get a larger table never panned out due to us not owning a vehicle large enough to transport it. We would try to borrow a truck and the table would sell to someone else before we could get it. We also have other areas in the house for hanging out but RM and GF use the dining table for sitting and chatting. It's not as if I'd be telling him to not use our furniture, just not the eating table when we want to eat.
TLDR; I feel that my roommate does not contribute to our shared household. WIBTA if I asked him move from my dining table when I want to use it?

2023.06.04 04:16 Lilrazzledazzle_ Stolen family ring

Stolen family ring
Here goes nothing-
Last year, our grandmothers diamond ring was stolen from our house in Las Vegas.
This ring goes back five generations in my family, and when my grandma had to flee France because of WW2 this is one of the only items that made it out. My great grandmother had sewn it into her jacket- protecting it for entire 6 month journey to Martinique.
My mother unfortunately passed away when I was 16 (28 now) and this was all we had left of her and my grandmother. The thought that it’s out there makes me sick to my stomach.
Please keep an eye out . Or if you have advice on how to effectively search the internet- I’ve checked Facebook marketplace, thrift stores, offer up, eBay, Craigslist.

2023.06.04 04:13 TriggasaurusRekt Non-toilet flushers

I've had two roommates in a row now who routinely forget to flush the toilet. The first one would leave his shit in the toilet unflushed and close the lid, and in the morning I'd open the toilet to find it. Every time I would ask him to go into the bathroom and flush his shit, because I'm not going to do it for him, we're both adults and that's ridiculous. You'd think he would just remember to flush instead of having to take a walk of shame to the bathroom every time I ask him to flush his shit, but he never seemed to care. He did, thankfully, always go and flush after I reminded him.
Fast forward a few months later and that guy is moved out and I get a new roommate, this time a woman in her 30s from Craigslist. Same problem, albeit less frequently. Would constantly be going into the bathroom to find it full of pee, poop and bloody tampons. But in this case it's even worse, because when I ask her to flush she gets unreasonably angry and upset, although she will eventually do it. Mind you, I'm asking as nicely as possible, like "Hey sorry to bother you would you mind giving the toilet a flush?" type stuff. I understand that as an adult woman, it's probably embarrassing for her to be reminded to flush, but if she just remembered to flush before leaving the bathroom I would never need to remind her. Nobody wants to wake up in the morning and use the bathroom to find the toilet filled with blood.
But I never understood why she became so upset and angry when I asked her to flush, because to my mind it's just an easy thing that takes 10 seconds. Maybe she grew up in a household where not flushing was the norm? I can maybe understand why she would be so upset if in her mind it's normal to not flush because it's just expected that the next person to use the bathroom will flush for you. That's not how the household I grew up in was at all, but I can't think of any other rational reason she would be upset by this, it just seems like a common courtesy to me.

Anyone else live with someone like that? Or grow up in a household where not flushing was normal?

Just curious, I see a lot of closets of non clothing items. Household items, “vintage” items (which honestly just makes me feel hold), media items, etc. are you re-sellers? Is it all your items? How is it going for you? What sells well? What doesn’t move? I’ve perused a few over the last year or so and I’m always curious.

2023.06.03 23:52 Ok-Variation1215 Thank You Gift to Apartment Owner?

I’ll be renting an apartment for 3 weeks next summer, and I’d like to know if it’s appropriate to leave a Thank You gift for the owner when I leave. I’m from the US; we like giving gift baskets which can include anything from fruit, wine, flowers, candy etc., to more practical gifts such as household items, groceries, and gift cards. Would it be acceptable to leave something like this, or would it seem offensive or disrespectful to the owner?

2023.06.03 23:44 C_Plot The Facets of Socialism

From socialism
There are certain facets we should expect from socialism. I see the State, not as a monolith, but as a site of class struggle between capitalists and proletarians. Once the working class becomes, en masse, a class for itself, it will substantially win that class struggle over the State and with that usher in socialism by eliminating class antagonisms, class distinctions, as well as amputating the repressive apparatuses, and thus transform the State (an instrument for the oppression by a ruling class) into a socialist Commonwealth (government subordinated to the needs and concern of society).
Among the facets I view as important are:
  1. smashing / amputating the repressive forces of the military and bureaucracy—replacing standing mercenary armies and mercenary police with a Militia, self-service and community self-service government based in web APIs with programming code faithfully implementing statute code, fundamental rights genuinely enjoyed universally and not as mere façade (rights is the accused, rights of the convicted/sentenced, Militia rights, non-common/non-public sphere rights).
  2. a democratic republic that stewards, operates, and acts as the proprietor for our common wealth (common resources such as common facilities and common services) in a distributed manner (global, nation-state, province/state, county, municipality, commune)
  3. workers in control of the means of production, through cooperative enterprise, a.k.a. communist enterprise (where the enterprise is directed democratically, one-worker-one-vote instead of with the capitalist plutocratic enterprise with one-dollar-in-wealth-one-vote)
  4. all rents—the revenues from selling natural resources—accrues solely to the public treasury for distribution equality as aN Unconditional Universal Basic Income (UUBI) social dividend
  5. the implementation of Pigouvian subsidies and fees (from Fabian socialist Alfred Pigou from which the name derives) and usage fees for other common services that warrant neither subsidy (positive externality resources) nor excise (negative externality resources)
  6. a heavily graduated progressive income tax to fund any remaining positive externality resource subsidies beyond the revenues available from excising negative externality resources (mostly needed for arming the Militia and for withering away criminal Justice mechanisms)
  7. Facilitating the formation of residential communes with direct democracy town halls in our small scale and low population neighborhoods—facilitating also greater direct-production-consumption opportunities than we can achieve in our households
I focus on the US mostly and so I have insufficient knowledge of the intricacies of actually existing socialist countries to adequately evaluate them against this list of facets. In broad strokes though, many actually existing socialist nation-states accomplish facet item (2): even the Nordic nations and other European nations do fairly well on that front. As you say China has done very well on facet item (2).
The Nordic nations and Western European nations excel on item (1) beyond most of the overtly named socialist nations, but they often flounder in trying to ill-advisedly conform to US draconian demands (surrounding drugs and other Vice laws), though Portugal, ruled by a coalition of communist, socialist, and green parties, is in the vanguard in eliminating these Vice laws (these laws are used for entirely repressive purposes and do not belong in a republic). We see Nicaragua backsliding on personal rights by outlawing abortion. China deploys a collective punishment of Uighers prostrating itself to Global capitalists and the US capitalists who demand repression of Muslims by every nation-state.
Cuba has eliminated the death penalty since the early 2000s and compare very favorably with the rogue and repressive Guantánamo Bay human rights desert run by the US on what is supposed to be Cuban territory. Cuba also has a Militia but my understanding is that it is not as robust as we should expect within socialism.
Most all fail to universalize cooperative enterprise (with exceptions only for prudent carve outs for common resource socialist enterprise such as transport networks, insurance risk pools, money-payments and general credit, a common marketplace or allocation system otherwise, general applied research projects, and manufacturing the non-fungible resources needed by government by buying fully fungible resources from fair and equal auctions). This is the condition for the very control of means of production by workers.
Any other details regarding natural resource rents, Pigouvian subsidies and fees, and heavily graduated progressive income taxes are beyond my knowledge for the actually existing socialist nation-states (whether they proudly claim the socialist moniker or not).

2023.06.03 15:08 ProcessPotential2900 Advice!? - I’m in the clutches of a scammer

Hi all - this is my first post on Reddit and english is my second language - so I hope what I’m writing makes sense:) It’s a longer story but I could really use some advice<3
Background information: - this happened on my country’s version of Craigslist. - on this site users can verify themselves with their social security number - which lots of people do for the safety. - payments are made on my country’s version of Venmo or made in person - not via the site.
I bought from this seller back in march; I found their profile fishy so I was careful and we found a way where we both felt trust (that I would receive the items and them the money). It worked out:) By then we had moved our conversation to text - and she began contacting me with great offers that seemed legitimate and I felt we had great communication… so I bought from her again and again.
She would ‘fake send’ the packages in away where I would get a tracking number and believe she had send it; long enough for me to buy from her again another 2 times… She always had a reason or explanation as to why my packages were slow to arrive… It all seemed plausible and I believed her (I tend to see the good in people - perhaps to a fault) She constantly reassured me that if the packages didn’t arrive she would refund me…
When I started to demand answers from her on why the packages where soooo slow to arrive and that I found it unbelievable/unreliable for 4 packages (from her) to “get lost”; her tone switched to be really foul and accusatory. But I know she is reacting this way cause she knows she’s in the wrong.
Now it’s been almost 4 months and I’m so freaking frustrated! I have gotten her to payback a small amount - but is far from the total amount…. Her tone switches from apologetic, that she is doing whatever she can to refund me TO her “screaming” over text threatening to report me!?!
Additional details and information: - The remaining amount = 713$ - It started at 928$ she payed me about 215$ back - I have kept all transactions, text and pictures she has sent (pics that my inner detective tracked down the originals of on instagram) - To no surprise she started to mix up some things she had told me and I suspected she might have done this before. - I found other people whom had been scammed by her as well…. - It was VERY challenging to find anything about her - as she uses different fake names; but I now know her name. I found an old article that she is a gambling addict and in 2008 she spent a year in jail. - some of the people she has scammed has experienced being threatened by her, and had her sending them fake legal documents.
I feel like such a stupid and naive tool for believing all her stories and for buying from her multiple times…
Any advice would be appreciated otherwise thanks for reading my rant
Ps. I’m more stubborn than a donkey so I’ll keep on bugging her about the money:)
