2023.06.03 10:40 migoelo A complete switch to an iPad Pro, and whether it was a mistake
Hello all,
In this post I wanted to share with you my experience so far, how my (private) switch from a DELL laptop (about 5 years old) with Windows 10, and in parallel an old iPad Pro 10.5, to a new iPad Pro 11 (2022) with Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, that should replace both devices, has presented itself so far.
Why the change? Because Apple had introduced Stage Manager for the newer iPads, I thought that an iPad (in my case) can replace both devices. I use the devices at home mostly for internet, email, calendar, listening to music, writing texts, spreadsheets, and sometimes sketching. When I use the device stationary, it is connected to an external display from DELL (u2720q) via USB-C (link rate HBR3). For input, I use a Logitech MX Mechanical Mini keyboard, and an MX Master 3s mouse connected to the display via Bolt adapter.
"BTW, to switch the keyboard layout between PC/iOS, you need to press and hold the fn+p keys for about 3 seconds for PC, and fn+i for iOS."
The following applications are used for the different purposes: - Safari
- Apple Mail
- Apple Calendar
- Apple Reminder
- Apple Photo App
- GoodNotes 5
- Word
- Excel
- Print documents and images (Canon Pixma 6250 via WLAN)
- Scan documents (Canon Pixma 6250 via WLAN)
- Plex Amp
- YoutubeMusic Player
- TuneIn Pro
- FileBrowserPro
- Enpass
- WebSSH (For Debian Server Maintenance)
- Affinity Photo Ver. 1
My experience: In fact, I can cover all areas quite well, even print pictures in high quality, or scan documents is very possible (surprised me). Unfortunately, there are also some things that bring me almost to despair. The step to change, I therefore question more and more. But what exactly are these things?
- When I connect the display, I can always wait about 30-60 minutes until the Stage Manager crashes. I suspect at least that this is the case, as then it disconnects from the iPad for less than a second, and then reconnects. All applications that were running on the external display must then be reloaded (or just opened). The content of the applications remains.
- Although the battery is fully charged, and when both devices (display and iPad) are in standby, one device consumes 10 watts. Normally the display (backlight off) uses <1Watt, and I can't imagine the iPad using that much when the display is off. That's a mystery to me.
- Scrolling with the Logitech mouse can only be perceived as cruel. That Logitech sells such a mouse as a Mac/iPad variant more expensive and without a Bolt adapter is almost outrageous. Whether the culprit for the scrolling behavior is Logitech or Apple doesn't help me here either. Both support sites remain silent when you ask.
- The Magic Keyboard TouchPad, but also the keyboard very often refuse to operate independently, i.e. on some Internet pages I can not properly scroll the page by two-finger touch. On other pages I can't enter any text. A restart (hard reset) of the iPad then helps.
- Many applications are apparently not StageManager adapted even today. Example is the AmazonPrime Video App, or the Youtube Music App. Apart from the fact that some content is shifted or displayed incorrectly, the content is simply zoomed in or out when the window is enlarged or reduced. Even good apps like Affinity Photo, although updated to Ver. 2, do not support an external display properly.
- Although I use the small iPad, the combination with a Magic Keyboard is a real kludge.
- If I'm listening to music with an app while browsing the web in Safari at the same time, I can wait until I hit a page with media content (e.g. CNN), and then the music stops
- …
Conclusion: Meanwhile, I'm playing more and more with the idea of abandoning the project, and switching to a new Windows laptop or MacBook Air. In fact, I've only used the touch capabilities briefly for testing to date. Unfortunately, the financial loss would be immense, and makes me doubt switching again. My hope is that with iPad OS 17 improvements will occur, but already alone with the disgusting scrolling of the mouse, I suspect that nothing will change here. Apple would like to sell their own mouse or touch here, of course.
Have any of you ever played with the idea to change completely, and what experiences you have had?
Grettings from Germany

2023.06.03 10:39 blamethesloths My collection (30F) - minus my hoard of samples
https://imgur.com/a/42tKR7R I’m partial to clean, fresh and airy, photorealistic fragrances, but have realised over the last two years or so that I love a bit of a spicy or maybe even a lightly smokey note too.
I swing almost daily between wanting everyone to know I smell good, to preferring people to think ‘hey something smells really good but I don’t know what/who it is’. Often I only wear perfumes for my own enjoyment.
I’ll wear certain perfumes or notes based on what I’m doing, who I’m seeing, or what mood I’m in. That means that sometimes you’ll find me scrubbing my arms and neck in the sink and spraying a new perfume on midway through the day.
I’ve only been exploring fragrances and collecting for the last 2 years or so, but I think my full bottle collection is a good reflection of everything above - a mix of notes and personalities.
————
A breakdown of some of my favourites:
- Sana Jardin Berber Blonde - to me, this is perfection. A spa-like, heady white floral, which doesn’t give me a headache? Sign me up. In the sun, this perfume sings. Beautiful.
- Vilhelm Parfumerie Dear Polly - a perfume close to my heart, as my bohemian, garden-obsessed grandmother was called Polly. A green, sweet, fresh fragrance with a heart of smokey tea which earths this perfume beautifully. I prefer this in the colder months, but can’t help but give it a sniff every time I pass it.
- Byredo Blanche - the ultimate laundry powder ‘clean girl’ fragrance. That is all.
- Teo Cabanel Je Ne Sais Quoi - have you ever eaten a McVitie’s Rich Tea biscuit? Because that’s what this smells like. Like you’ve dunked a Rich Tea biscuit into some sticky rice. While wearing clean laundry. It’s fascinating, delicious, and surprisingly wearable. Like most of Teo Cabanel’s stuff, to be honest.
- Van Cleef & Arpels - happiness in a bottle. A honeyed citrus, covered in white florals. In the colder months, this is mainly white florals. In the summer, this is a gooey beautiful citrus. It genuinely makes me smile when I smell this. Shame about the silage.
- Diptyque Orpheon - I have a love/hate relationship with Diptyque. But with Orpheon, I have nothing but love. A woody, powdery, confident fragrance, which is loud enough to get attention but not loud enough to steal the room. I wear this when I want to be that bish.
- ELdO Spice Must Flow - I bought a sample of this almost solely because I fell hook line and sinker for the Dune vibes. Reading the notes, I had basically already decided it wasn’t going to be for me - too loud and spicy. But this was love at first sniff. It’s spicy, with elements of smoke, but the rose is outstanding. It is loud, it is medicinal, but it is beautiful. I love this because it was (and still is) such a surprise to me how much I like it.
- Phlur Tangerine Boy - want to smell like a literal tangerine? Buy this. I wear this to the gym.
- Atelier Cologne Orange Sangine - want to smell like literal orange peel? Buy this. I also wear this to the gym.
- Loewe Paula’s Ibiza - I have been hunting for far, far too long for the perfect summer fragrance. Less sunscreeny, more green fresh and coconutty. This comes close. A fresh coconut note surrounded by green. The only problem I have with this one is after a while I smell like I’ve just rubbed a green pepper on my skin and called it a day. The hunt for a summer frag continues, but I do find myself wearing this on hot days.
- YSL Rouge Velours - the ultimate date fragrance. Fresh rose, and patchouli. It’s sexy but sophisticated. Fun but alluring. The Margot Robbie of perfumes. This is my biggest compliment-getter. Also big ‘that bish’ vibes.
A special mention to Serge Lutens Fleurs d’Oranger - one of the main reasons I became fascinated by perfumes was because I went to Sevilla when the orange trees were blossoming, and from then on I wished I could bottle that smell and wear it. This bottle is the closest thing to that smell I have found in my hunt so far. Art.

2023.06.03 10:39 RubyBBBB Advice on correcting problems with my roof replacement.
The first photo is an overview of my roof. Part 1 2 and 5 have shingles Part 3 and 4 are low pitch torch down with built-in gutters. Three and four are the original House. Was built in 1897 it had two stories. The roof was caught on fire in the 1940s and the top story burned off. The floor of the top story is still there. The homeowner at the time, put a roof over the remaining floor and made it a low pitch with built-in gutters. He used tar and gravel so the roof will hold a lot of weight. The second photo shows the roof over part 1. Please advise about the ridge line. Problems with roof one 1. The attic gets very hot. Need Advice about the ridge vent, how to cover the ridge of the house best, how to best vent the hot attic? When I moved here 30 years ago, the weather was much milder. It didn't get as hot in the summer and the rain didn't fall as heavily as it does now. 2. It has plastic gutters on the right side and aluminum gutters on the left side which are small. The plastic gutters on the right side routinely overflow at the area closest to the bottom of the photo. The government may not be hung properly. 3. At the bottom of this photo you can see where the eaves of part 1 meet the torch down roof of part three of the house. There was t1-111 sighting on the end of that eave but I had them replace it with flashing when the roof was last. How should this flashing be handled? submitted by RubyBBBB to Roofing [link] [comments]
2023.06.03 10:39 TheGodus How to Tell if someone used AI for Restoration
I have been using this community for some time and have noticed that many people use AI… This is how you can tell if it was done by AI Here’s the Test Image Original If we do it by hand, it will give a high quality, nice looking restored photo. Hand-Restored As you can see, there are no remarks, no more scratches, everything blends in to the nature of the photo. On the other hand, If we use AI, we get a horrible image like this… AI As you can see, It hardly did any restoration to scratches and other damage. The faces don’t blend in to the nature and there is random colors in the over did Eyes. Only very small differences. This is a major problem in this community and that is why I posted this to make people aware of AI especially for paid requests. If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask. I will try to respond quickly. Best Regards, Lucas submitted by TheGodus to estoration [link] [comments]

2023.06.03 10:36 theFrogOfDarkness Sailboat in Maryland
This isn't self-promotion, as I understand it, and I apologize if this post runs afoul of the rules. Fingers crossed.
1972 O’Day 27’ sailboat in Mayo MD
I purchased her in December of 2019 with the intent to live aboard for a few months while I navigated a contentious divorce. At that time I motor-sailed her from Deale to Mayo and noted no issues. The inboard diesel ran flawlessly and she handled nicely.
That spring I fell in love with living on the water and purchased a 42’ project boat with the intent of refitting her as a liveaboard while I stayed on the O’Day. I took the O'Day out of the marina a couple of times that summer. Everything was going well until June of 2020 when I injured my neck and underwent major surgery (C3-C7 fusion). I had to immediately move into a townhouse over an hour away to to recover.
At that time friends moored her where she has stayed with infrequent visits. Last fall my wife and I began refitting her with the intent of taking up sailing again. I purchased a new West Marine dinghy, and a used 2.5hp Mercury outboard as a tender.
Health issues have struck again, plus I need to move over a thousand miles inland to attend to my elderly parent’s declining health.
So, here I am writing about the boat and dinghy that I would rather sign over (zero dollars) to the right person than sell.
I have the full title and paperwork required to legally operate both.
The Good:
- Working inboard yanmar diesel, model 1GM10.
- Two AGM (house & starting) batteries and the typical marine A/B switch.
- Shore power hookup, with both 12v and 120v wiring.
- 4 new 100w solar panels and the necessary solar controllers, wiring, switches that need to be installed.
- The main sail is in good condition, a small section of the grommet reinforcement on the foresail was starting to fray last fall. I have another sail that I haven’t investigated.
- Nature's Head, USCG approved composting head. No sewage holding tanks so the boat doesn’t smell like poo.
- Genoa roller furling.
- Canvas cover for the mainsail is in good condition.
- Comes with a mooring ball that I purchased from the previous owner.
- She is a dry boat.
The Bad:
- Soft spot on the bow.
- The diesel runs fine, but the cool water impeller is fouled. I have several spares, a complete factory manual and an aftermarket maintenance book. She will need the cool water inlet cleaned (round wire brush) and the impeller replaced before she can be motored.
- I started to replace an ancient dual handled throttle / shifter with a modern single handle model. However, I didn’t finish connecting the linkage to the transmission. This should be a 30min task, I forgot a tool and ran out of time.
The Ugly:
- She needs to be hauled out, scraped, and repainted. The bottom is fouled.
- I left her in a hurry, the interior is a mess.
- I dropped a 'temporary' bilge pump in the bilge last fall. It has a dedicated battery and solar panel. However none of this was ‘installed’. I zip tied the wiring in place with the intent of finishing it properly this year. I did this because I was a bonehead the winter before and left something open that should have been closed. No repeat this winter.
- She is a 50yo boat in need of fresh topside paint, interior varnishing, in short - lots of TLC.
This isn’t a turn-key boat, however it isn’t an impossible beyond all hope project boat either. It will require someone who has the time, energy and resources to enjoy her.
DM me if you think you are this person.
Happy sailing.

2023.06.03 10:35 Valeolento Do i need PCI-E 5.0? + some rambling
Im building a new setup in the summer and while looking at the current options,it has left me wondering do i ever need a pci-e 5 connections on my motherboard.Without too much looking the answer is no, current and most likely next gen GPUs doesnt use 5.0. While for storage it might be useful, hence included in most new boards. But what about VR?
*RAMBLING\*
I am now going to buy a mid to high end AM5 motherboard for the next 6-8 years. In which time i would be upgrading my CPU to last gen AM5 in 3 to 4 years from now and GPU from AMD 9000 series or Nvidia 6000 series possibly. Now heres the catch, should i go for pci-e 5 today to accommodate those GPUs? I find myself hard pressed to justify that by looking at the rates in which pci-e 4 operates in. Or even pci-e gen 3 for that matter with 16 lanes. So, the only thing i can think of that could be close to needing those speeds of pci-e 5 is VR. For VR to be enjoyable ive read that you should have atleast 8k 60fps per eyeball so 8k 120fps.
Those figures are well beyond rtx 4090, maybe 4090 per eyeball would suffice, but that is really pushing it. On top of that i would like to have my hypothetical 4k 120 fps screen runnig at the same time. Thats a fuckload of pixels (1FL), or about 40 1080p60fps screens running at the same time. I would like to think that next gen GPU would be comfortably able to cover one eyeball, so maybe in two generations of GPUs i would be able to reach 1FL with a dual GPU setup.
My last build is from 2016, 6600K @ 4.5, 32gb RAM @ 3133 and GTX 1070 OC.My goal then was to achieve ultra 1080p on every game and later move to 4k gaming, which i barely did, and now i have a 1440p 100hz UW that feels like a sweet spot for this setup. While at it i saw AM4 come and go without providing me a reasonable upgrade, but now i feel with AM5 out that i should be going for AM5 setup next. 1440p 144fpswould be the starting point for me with this new setup and after midlife upgrade i wouldlike to be able to try VR and play 8k or 4k 120fps.
*QUESTIONS\*
Is 8k120fps+4k120fps possible through a single pcie-4 x16? Two?
Are modern AM5 board built to pcie-5 standard a requirement anyway to even have the RAM, CPU and inner bandwidth capable of proper VR or 8k gaming, even though pcie-4 for GPU(s) could theoretically have the bandwidth?
New AM5 boards tend to have pcie 5 8x8x4 in dual GPU setup so it would be the same as having two pci-e 4 x16 right?
Whats your take on pci-e 5?
Am i lost here? I know i should probably build pc that i need now and rebuild in 2-3 years if i have to, but fuck that i want to have same mobo for 10 years ok? I am willing to pay the silly extra now so i can just forget about it for few years and drop in new parts and forget about it again. And if i get AM5 now, one proper midlife upgrade should do the trick. Right?
Feel free to comment, i do not have pc gaming enthusiasts as friends.

2023.06.03 10:32 m62665 IONIQ 5 Lounge RWD 77.4kWh
Hi everybody, At first, excuses for my English, it isn't my first language. I've read a lot of things on this page about this fantastic car, wanted to share something as well. Although, it might not that interesting, because like (almost?) all of you, I am also very positive. And the photo's, well you know what the car looks like. But i'll post some anyway. I've ordered my IONIQ 5 in september 2022. At that time i still had my Volvo S60 diesel from 2008, wonderful 5-cylinder, but the car costs became too high for me. There was also about 450,000 kilometers on the counter, so the maintenance costs were also getting slightly higher. Although I am convinced that the car was far from finished. The old beast, Volvo S60 2.4 D5 from 2008 And in Europe there are more and more Low Emission Zones, in some cities I was banned with a diesel like this. That's understandable, but also quit annoying. I'm using my car quit a lot for my work, so i needed something else. And I wanted that something else not to be a newer diesel, i wanted something for the future. So after a lot of thinking (especially about the costs of a new car) I've chosen the IONIQ 5. The dealer told me that if i'm lucky i'd get it may 2023, but it was probably going to be later in the year. So you can imagine how surprised (and happy) I was when I received a call in february where they told me that my car was on a ship and arriving in the port around march 6th. The car needed to be shipped to my local dealer and they had to prepare somethings, so I had to wait until march 22nd to pick my car up. It was the first time that I bought a brand new car, so it was quit unbelievable to experience all of it. Picking up my IONIQ 5 Lounge (77,4 kWh) I bought the Lounge version, i guess it's called the Limited in the US. I've chosen for the RWD, because.. well I live in The Netherlands, so everything is quit flat over here. The highest point over here is 322 meters above sea level. Not very impressive, so I really don't need AWD. I did a testdrive in an AWD, the speed was quit impressive. But it being more expensive and having less range made me choose for the RWD. Still quit fast and a bit more space in the frunk. And for the holidays to the Alps for example, de RWD will still manage, i'm sure of that. First time charging (public charging 'station') When i picked it up, the car had driven 11km. Now, to be precise 73 days later, i just went over the 10.000km. So far, i really love it. It's quiet, comfortable, fast and gorgeous to see. Every time I see the car I am still excited. And I think that feeling will stay for a very long time. The fast charging is very impressive, i don't need it that much, but when i do it never disappoints. This summer i'm going on a holiday with my girlfriend for the first time with an EV. I'm very curious how that goes. In The Netherlands you do have a lot of charging stations, you will always manage to find one. But, from what i've heard, the more you to the south of Europe, the harder it gets. We're going to France (Chamonix) and Italy (near Genua). So that will be our first big adventure with an EV, but I'm sure we'll be fine. And in the coming years, more and more charging stations will be added in Europe, so that can only get better. If you're still reading, apologies for this long story. I'll stop now, maybe I'll come up with an update later. Will try to keep it shorter then. Have a great day everyone and enjoy your beautiful cars. Manoj submitted by m62665 to Ioniq5 [link] [comments]

The goal is to create a centralized platform that covers all of the core IB subjects, providing valuable resources and study materials to make your IB journey smoother and more successful.
In order to deliver this project, I need fellow IB students with a passion for coding to help bring this vision to life
Some things I plan to add to the website:
- Topic Learning Modules: Each subject will have detailed learning modules that break down complex topics into easily understandable sections. These modules will include concise notes, interactive multimedia content, and real-life examples to enhance your understanding.
- Subject-Specific Mock Exams: We believe that practice makes perfect. That's why we will offer subject-specific mock exams, designed to simulate the real IB examination experience. These exams will help you gauge your progress, identify areas of improvement, and build your confidence before the actual exams.
- Important Notes and Resources: We understand the importance of having concise and reliable notes. Our website will provide carefully curated notes for each topic and subtopic, ensuring that you have access to the key information you need to succeed in your exams.
- Sample Questions with Explanations: Practice is crucial, and we will provide a wide range of sample questions with detailed explanations for each subject. These questions will cover various difficulty levels, allowing you to reinforce your understanding and develop effective problem-solving skills.
I'm still in the planning stages of this whole thing, working out the details for making this work, and I would appreciate any and all collaboration; dedicated IB students with coding skills who are passionate about making a positive impact on the whole IB community. If you have experience in web development, programming, design, or project directing, your expertise would be invaluable to this project.
If you're interested in working with me and bringing IBMaster to life, please feel free to reach out to me at [
[email protected]](mailto:
[email protected]) or message me at umi_a_r on Instagram. Thanks :)
Note: Taking a direct role in the development of this website would provide invaluable experience that can be put on your college applications/CVs, applied in any future web design projects, and used for CAS experience.
