This is my first time venting here so I hope I'm doing it right and not breaking any rules. I didn't figure out that my mother has npd for at least thirty years. Five years ago, I thought maybe she had borderline personality disorder because she would self-harm and threaten/attempt suicide several times during my childhood and later on during adulthood. But one thing my mom would do is repeatedly try to pit my siblings and I against each other and when I tried searching for that on google, the results showed that this behavior of hers is associated with npd and not bpd. So she probably has npd with comorbid bpd or something to that effect.
So three weeks ago, my elderly Nmom called me on the phone and I'm making small talk with her because it's impossible to have deeper conversations with her. So I'm talking about the weather, the local news, whatever, and she mentions to me that her brother (my uncle) is worried about her health and he offered to fly her over to his home in Alberta so that she can have extended family look after her health. So I said "oh that sounds like a great offer. It would be great for you to have better health care." And then out of nowhere she very casually says "yes it's great. Because all four of my children are terrible. None of them do anything to help their sick mother" and I was just like "....... ??????" I didn't respond because my blood was boiling. I'm not giving her the satisfaction of yelling at her anymore because it only feeds her "poor me" victim narrative. And honestly I'm just fed up of yelling at her. It doesn't do anything. It doesn't change her. It's like yelling at a brick wall. It's my blood pressure going up so really I'm only hurting myself by giving into her anger bait tactics. Ten years ago, I lost my temper with my mother during an argument and called her a "bitch" and she started self-harming right in front of me while repeatedly calling herself a "bitch" and it was a traumatizing experience for me personally. When I told this to a therapist, she suggested that I call 911 whenever my mom does something like that, but the thing is she did the same thing over a decade ago when arguing with my oldest brother and what's scary about it is that she would come over to me after the argument and try to convince me that my brother gave her those cuts and bruises and that she's considering filing a police report against my brother. She's cold-blooded nightmare. I'm sorry, but I'm not calling 911 if she's going to pull some DARVO move on me.
Anyway, so today she showed up at my apartment unannounced even though I've told her at least dozen times in the past that she can't appear unannounced because it's rude. I was taking a nap when she showed up and buzzed my apartment intercom system. I went downstairs to the lobby and told her, very calmly I might add, about how she can't show up unannounced like this and that she needs to call me on the phone before visiting me. She went all quiet and left so I thought, ok I guess that went well. Later in the evening I receive a phone call from her and she's crying on the phone, telling me that she's in the hospital now and she's begging me for my forgiveness. And I'm thinking... wtf? All I did was calmly ask you to respect my boundaries and you're self-harming because your fucked up brain interprets a respectful request as abandonment? I know she's self-harming and putting herself in the hospital purposely because she's desperate for attention and she wants her kids to swoop in to become her rescuecaregiveparental figure again and my siblings and I are sick of her dramatic bullshit.
It's 4am and I should be sleeping, but my anxiety is keeping me awake.

this was such a fun experience ngl. I had a pico based hwfly clone (i think?) and the install was pretty painless given that the only other soldering I've done is to add a usb c port to my 3ds.
ps thanks to the folks that let me know that my chip came pre-flashed with firmware, and to the other guy that let me know what kind of chip I have so I could find vids on it. to those looking to do this install: it isn't for the feint of heart. this is far easier than what I understand the picofly zero chips to be (blue pcb), but you're still dealing with VERY small solder points, and without the right tools you could really mess things up.

I am currently on maternity leave and have a 6MO. I will be going back to work (from home) part-time when he will be 9MO.
My husband and I are in the process of moving out of our current flat and into our new house. In the new house, we will have a room each to use as a study. In my study, I will have my desk and an ikea Kallax shelf, which will be mounted to the wall, and that's basically it. There should be plenty of room for my LO to play on the floor in my study. I will use a cable tidy to make sure all the cables from the laptop etc are out of the way and he won't be in the study unless I am anyway. Do you guys think this will be fine?
I've read about the typical 8 month separation anxiety. Do you think he'll be fine being on the floor playing with his toys while I'm sat at my desk working?
I've read other posters saying that their LOs can't cope with being in the same room but separated by a fence (from a playpen) or something.
Is there anything else I should think of to make this transition easier? I plan on getting him to play in the study while I'm there maybe 2 weeks before I actually start work, just to get him used to the room.

TLDR: I had a very bad home life. I’ve grown up and moved far away now. When I was in high school there was a teacher who made a massive impact on my ability to cope with my home situation. She’s retired, and I am unable to find a phone number or email for her, but I found her address online just by googling her name. I just want to thank her so bad, but would it be creepy to send a letter? I do not plan on signing it as she lives in a small area very close to my parents.
————————————————————————- Longer version: I had a very hard home life with parents that loved me in their own way, but were extremely abusive in multiple ways. High school was an especially difficult time for me as I was bullied for not being allowed to do anything or go anywhere and then was getting crap at home too. It felt like everywhere I went everyone disliked me and I felt very alone in the world. I had absolutely no one to talk to but this teacher seemed to notice. She allowed me to sit in her room at lunch and would often offer me “random” words of advice that always seemed to just be exactly what I needed that day. to be clear this was not any kind of grooming or boundary issue. She was always very professional. It was just that she gave me a space to “exist” in without ridicule or insults or harm.
She was a wonderful person and made more of a difference in my life than she ever knew. I found out she retired awhile back but is still living in the area.
I would really love to send her a kind note thanking her for the massive impact she made on my outlook on life. The only contact info I can find for her anywhere is a home address. Normally I would not think sending a surprise letter would be ok, but I have no other way to reach her. I do not want to be creepy in even the slightest bit.

Here's the thing: I work in a company that is going through some changes. I don't want to out myself since I'm just asking as a random reddit dude but anyways....
The company I work for is going to need strong people with a passport and a clean record. These extra guys are all going to have to lift at least 50 lbs over their heads. My ideal candidate would be 23 to 30 years of age, passport/clean record for international travel, not a drug user, and able to accept 27-30 an hour understanding that per diem and overtime will have them making roughly 70k a year on your w2 but your compensation/take home pay would be closer to 85k. In the last year I've been to half of Europe and we're getting too many orders to fulfill. 2024 is already blocked out.
I'm only asking on this sub because the management of my company is not construction based. We build systems for customers and nearly all of upper management have degrees in mechanical engineering or software development. I've spent 2 years in construction and I just wish that I could steal 4 of the union guys or 2 of the tower climbers I've worked with but that's a good way to get your tires slashed if you poach anyone on a jobsite.
So as the title suggests: how do you find someone in construction without knowing anyone directly? My current job moved me 100 miles from my previous one two years ago. The guys I'd like to follow me from my old job have families and homes in a state they like better. So all my leads are essential done.
I'm not asking for applications in my DMs I'm asking how does the construction industry find people that are not references?

I’m thinking about flicking off our Hyundai ICE in favour of a 2nd hand standard Model 3. In addition to the usual town use, I do regular trips from N Plymouth to Whanganui (325km) return in a day and sometimes as far as Palmy and back in a day (460km). Am I right in thinking a stop for a recharge will be necessary somewhere in those return trips and if yes, how long will I be stopping for to be ready to get home? Most charging will be at home, where we have solar so each trip would start optimally charged. Thanks for your thoughts.

Ridgid metal chop saw wide blade kerf?
I think I already know the answer to this, but I’ll ask anyways. Bought this Ridgid chop saw used off Facebook marketplace for $100. Guy said he only used it once, looks that way. When I brought it home, noticed some chips in the blade and didn’t think anything of it. Barged it up to Alaska, needed it yesterday and the kerf was about 1/4” on a 1/8” blade. Spinning the blade by hand I can see the blade wobble a bit. Did I buy a lousy used tool with a bent arbor from misuse, or is this kind of precision expected from a low end chop saw?
I’ve done dumber things in my life…
