Note: Various games played thresholds for may be pro-rated due to the shortened 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons. Consult CapFriendly or message me if you have any questions. All dates below are tentative. Check the
schedule for more up-to-date information.
Salary Cap
The upper limit is
$83.5M (projected), and the lower limit is
$61.0M (projected). Though you are allowed to exceed the upper limit by 10% in the offseason, we will require you to have a plan for how to get back under the cap by the end of the sim.
Resources: Contracts
For the sake of simplifying contracts, all contract negotiations and signings will be done using average annual value (AAV). Salary structure and signing bonuses will not be considered, with the exceptions of complying with minimum salaries ($775k for the 2023-24 season and beyond) and maximum salaries (an AAV equal to 20% of the current salary cap upper limit).
Basic Definitions
- Standard player contract (SPC) - the sole form of employment contract used for all player signings
- Entry-level contract (ELC) - most players’ first contract, carries certain restrictions
- Unrestricted free agent (UFA) - can sign with any team
- Restricted free agent (RFA) - if they sign with another team, the original team has the right to match the contract or receive draft pick compensation
- Group 1 Player - players under an ELC
- Group 2 Player or RFA - most RFAs fit under this category
- Group 3 Player or UFA - players with 7 accrued seasons or 27 years old
- Group 4 RFA - defected players
- Group 5 UFA (currently irrelevant) - players with 10 accrued seasons who made less than the average league salary in the prior season
- Group 6 UFA - players 25 or older who played few enough NHL games to become a UFA
- 10.2(c) - players without the professional years required to become a Group 2 RFA and receive a qualifying offer. Can only negotiate with the team holding the player's rights.
Contract & Roster Limits
During the regular season (before the day of the Trade Deadline) each team may have a maximum of 23 players on their Active Roster, and a minimum of 18 skaters and 2 goalies.
Each club may have a maximum of 50 SPCs, and must have a minimum of 24 players and 3 goalkeepers. In this sim, we will also require each team to have at least 40 SPCs by the end. Players who meet the following conditions do not count towards this contract limit:
- Are 18 or 19 years old
- Are in a junior league
- Have not played 11 NHL games in one season
Note: the roster sheets currently assume every player eligible for this exemption is assigned to Juniors. If you wish to have that player(s) on your opening day roster, please ask me to correct this (as it will affect the number of contract slots you have available).
A club's reserve list (signed players, unsigned draft picks, and defected players) may not exceed 90 players.
Resources: Buried Contracts
For one-way NHL contracts of players reassigned to the AHL, the players' salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary (for the respective season) and $375k, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total. This implies up to $1.15M can be buried this season per contract.
If a player signs a multi-year contract at 35 years or older (as of June 30 prior to the effective contract), the player's individual cap hit counts against the teams cap hit regardless of whether, or where, the player is active. However, a team will receive a $100k relief off of the team's salary cap hit, if a 35+ contract player is playing in the minor leagues after the first year of their contract.
Entry-Level Contracts
Players younger than 25 as of September 15 of the year of their first NHL contract must sign an ELC, all of which are two-way contracts with a maximum AAV of $950k (players drafted in 2022) or $925k (players drafted prior to 2022). The length of an ELC depends on the player's age:
- 18-21 years old: 3 years
- 22-23 years old: 2 years
- 24 years old: 1 year
European players (players drafted from a team outside North America or undrafted players) ages 25-27 must sign a one-year ELC.
If a player signed to an ELC is 18 or 19 years old, and does not play in a minimum of 10 NHL games (including both regular season and playoffs), their contract is considered to "slide", or extend, by one year. Signing bonuses do not slide, which can change the AAV of the player's contract.
Resources: Contract Length
Clubs may sign a player to an SPC with a term of up to 8 years only if that player was on such club's Reserve List as of and since the most recent Trade Deadline. For UFAs, this right expires when the player hits free agency (i.e., on
Sun. June 25th, 11:59pm ET). Otherwise, the term limit for SPCs is 7 years.
No-Trade Clauses
A No-Move Clause (NMC), No-Trade Clause (NTC), or Modified No-Trade Clause (M-NTC) can be added to a player's contract in the years after they are eligible as a Group 3 player (7 accrued seasons or 27 years old). These clauses restrict the player from being traded without his consent. An NMC also restricts a player from being placed on waivers and being assigned to minors without his consent. These clauses do not exempt a player from a buyout or contract termination.
Performance Bonuses
Clubs may pay players that meet one of the following criteria a performance bonus:
- The player is on an ELC.
- The player has signed a one-year contract and is over 35 years old.
- The player has signed a one-year contract after returning from a long-term injury (has played 400 or more games, and spent 100 or more days on the Injured Reserve in the last year of their most recent contract).
Performance bonuses count against the cap, however a team can only exceed the upper limit by a maximum of 7.5% (the overage of which counts towards the next season's cap hit).
Resources: Group 6 Unrestricted Free Agents
A player whose contract is expiring and meets all of the following conditions shall become a Group 6 UFA:
- The player is 25 years or older (as of June 30th).
- The player has completed 3 or more professional seasons - qualified by 11 or more professional games (for an 18/19 year old player), or 1 or more professional games (for a player 20 or older) while under an SPC.
- The player has played fewer than 80 NHL games for a skater, or 28 NHL games of 30 minutes or greater for a goaltender.
Restricted Free Agents
Qualifying Offers
A qualifying offer (QO) is an official one-year SPC offer. Clubs have until
Sun. June 25th, 5pm ET to submit their QOs. Submitting a QO gives the club the right of first refusal to match any offer sheet submitted, or receive draft pick compensation. If the player rejects the qualifying offer, they remain a RFA and their rights are retained by the club. If a player does not receive a qualifying offer, he becomes a UFA.
A minimum QO is calculated from the player's base salary (excluding all bonuses) as follows:
- 105% of the base salary if the base salary is less than $1,000,000. However, the minimum QO shall not exceed $1,000,000.
- 100% of the base salary if the base salary is equal to or greater than $1,000,000.
- For contracts signed after the 2020 Memorandum of Understanding, if the minimum qualifying offer would otherwise be greater than 120% of the AAV of the contract, the minimum qualifying offer will instead be 120% of the AAV.
The QO must be a one-way offer if the following three requirements are met (a goaltender is considered to have played a game if they are on the bench as a backup):
- The player played in 180 NHL games in the previous three seasons.
- The player played in 60 NHL games in the previous season.
- The player did not clear waivers in the previous season.
Qualifying offers expire on
Wed. July 12th, 5pm ET.
Note: If an RFA has signed a contract in another league, the NHL club may extend a QO to retain that player's rights. These players are marked on the roster sheets as signed in another league.
Resources: Offer Sheet Compensation
Only Group 2 and 4 RFAs may be signed to an offer sheet. However, clubs only receive draft pick compensation for Group 2 RFAs.
Compensation must be entirely in the next draft (for this sim: 2024), unless multiple of the same round of pick are required (e.g. two first rounders). In that case, you may skip one year (e.g. two 1sts could be 2023 and 2024 OR 2023 and 2025 OR 2024 and 2025).
Compensation is determined by the AAV outlined in the offer made by submitting club. The AAV for an offer sheet, which determines the compensation required, is derived by dividing the total contract value amount by the lesser of: number of years offered, or 5 years. The AAV thresholds are readjusted each season, and is based on the average league salary for that season.
Compensation for the
2022 offseason is as follows:
AAV (1-5 years) | AAV (6 years) | AAV (7 years) | Compensation |
$1,386,490 or less | $1,155,408 or less | $990,350 or less | No compensation |
$1,386,491 - $2,100,742 | $1,155,409 - $1,750,618 | $990,351 - $1,500,530 | One 3rd Round Pick |
$2,100,743 - $4,201,488 | $1,750,619 - $3,501,240 | $1,500,531 - $3,001,063 | One 2nd Round Pick |
$4,201,489 - $6,302,230 | $3,501,241 - $5,251,858 | $3,001,064 - $4,501,593 | One 1st Round Pick, One 3rd Round Pick |
$6,302,231 - $8,402,975 | $5,251,859 - $7,002,479 | $4,501,594 - $6,002,125 | One 1st Round Pick, One 2nd Round Pick, One 3rd Round Pick |
$8,402,976 - $10,503,720 | $7,002,480 - $8,753,100 | $6,002,126 - $7,502,657 | Two 1st Round Picks, One 2nd Round Pick, One 3rd Round Pick |
$10,503,721 or more | $8,753,101 or more | $7,502,658 or more | Four 1st Round Picks |
The club that receives an Offer Sheet has 7 days to match the offer or accept the draft pick compensation. If the receiving club matches the Offer Sheet, they are bound to the contract details outlined in the offer, must respect all aspects of the contract (such as any NTCs), and cannot trade that player for 1 year from the date of the contract signing.
Resources: Buyouts
Teams are permitted to buyout a player's contract to obtain a reduced salary cap hit over a period of twice the remaining length of the contract. The buyout amount is a function of the players age at the time of the buyout, and are as follows:
- 1/3 of the remaining contract value, if the player is younger than 26 at the time of the buyout
- 2/3 of the remaining contract value, if the player is 26 or older at the time of the buyout
The team still takes a cap hit, and the cap hit by year is calculated as follows:
- Multiply the remaining salary (excluding signing bonuses) by the buyout amount (as determined by age) to obtain the total buyout cost
- Spread the total buyout cost evenly over twice the remaining contract years
- Determine the savings by subtracting the annual buyout cost from Step 2. by the player's salary (excluding signing bonuses)
- Determine the remaining cap hit by subtracting the savings from Step 3. by the player's AAV (including signing bonuses)
A player can only be bought out after clearing unconditional waivers. A waiver-claim by another team pre-empts the buyout process. If a player has a no-movement clause, the player can reject the option of waivers and proceed directly to the buyout process.
A 35+ contract that is bought out receives no salary cap relief. An injured player (who was injured as a result of his job) is entitled his remaining salary, so long as such injury continues, and therefore cannot be bought out.
Resources: Waivers
When a player is reassigned from the NHL to another league, they must pass through waivers (unless they are exempt).
Waivers requests are processed each day at
2pm ET, and are subject to a 24 hour claim period, expiring at
2pm ET the following day.
The sim will have two waivers windows: unconditional waivers (for a buyouts) runs from
Mon. June 19th until
Sun. June 25th and the normal waiver window will run from
Thu. August 3rd until
Sat. August 12th.
Waivers priority is determined by the lowest percentage of possible standings points at the time of the waivers request (or when outside the regular season or through October 31st by the standings of the previous season). Tie breakers: lowest ROW percentage, fewest number of points in head-to-head games (excluding "odd games"), lowest goal differential per game. Therefore, waivers priority throughout the sim is as follows:
Resources: Waiver Exemptions
Age is defined as follows:
- If a player turns 18 between January 1 and September 15 in the entry-draft calendar year preceding the first season of the player's ELC, they are considered 18
- Otherwise, if a player turns 19 (or older) before December 31 in the entry-draft calendar year preceding the first season of the player's ELC, they are considered 19 (or older)
For players 20 years or older, the year in which they play their first professional game under NHL contract is their first year towards the waiver exemption.
Whichever comes first in this table indicates when a player is no longer exempt:
Age | Years from Signing (Skaters) | NHL Games Played (Skaters) | Years from Signing (Goalies) | NHL Games Played (Goalies) |
18 | 5 | 160 | 6 | 80 |
19 | 4 | 160 | 5 | 80 |
20 | 3 | 160 | 4 | 80 |
21 | 3 | 80 | 4 | 60 |
22 | 3 | 70 | 4 | 60 |
23 | 3 | 60 | 3 | 60 |
24 | 2 | 60 | 2 | 60 |
25+ | 1 | | 1 | |
There is an exception (to the above) for 18 and 19 year olds: if a skater plays 11 NHL games or more, the year exemption will reduce to 3, and the following two season will count against this regardless of games played. For goalies, the year exemption will reduce to 4, and the following three season will count against this regardless of games played.
Otherwise:
- A player does not need to pass through waivers if he has not been on the NHL active roster for a cumulative 30 days since last clearing waivers, and has not played in 10 or more NHL games.
- Any player who has consented to a Conditioning Loan can be loaned to a minor league club for a maximum of 14 days without passing through waivers.
- A player who was previously on long-term injured reserve (LTIR), may be loaned to a minor league club for a maximum of 6 days or 3 games for the purpose of determining if the player is fit to play. This player does not need to pass through waivers
Examples of players that do or do not require waivers. Resources: Long Term Injured Reserve
There are two approaches to use LTIR for cap relief:
- Put the player on LTIR before the season starts. You can be over at the start of the season, but only get relief for how much the contract is over at the time he is placed on LTIR. Note: offseason cap accounting applies.
- Put the player on LTIR after the start of the season. You need to be under the cap at the beginning of the season, but get full relief.
The LTIR salary relief cannot be used to pay bonuses. Any excess relief does not accumulate.
At this point, the following players are eligible for LTIR: Ryan Ellis (
PHI), Gabriel Landeskog (
COL), Bryan Little (
ARI), Carey Price (
MTL), Brent Seabrook (
TBL), and Shea Weber (
ARI). GMs can petition the commissioners to add players to this list, including relevant information such as the player, injury, and timeline for return.
Resources: Retained Salary Transactions
When a team trades a player, they have the option to retain a part of his salary (and cap hit). The team who retains the salary pays the retained percentage of the salary, and retains the percentage of the cap hit (until the contract expires). The following requirements must be met:
- The percentage retained cannot exceed 50% of the player’s salary (including all bonuses) and cap hit.
- The same percentage must be retained for both the player’s salary and cap hit, and cannot be modified year-to-year. As a result, the same amount must be retained through the remainder of the contract.
- All teams are limited to a maximum of 3 retained salary contracts per season.
- Teams cannot retain an aggregate amount of more than 15% of the Salary Cap Upper Limit.
- Players’ contracts are limited to 2 retained salary transactions per contract.
Once a retained salary transaction occurs, there are various limitations:
- A team cannot re-acquire a player whom they have retained salary from for a minimum of one year after the date of the transaction (unless the player's contract expires or is terminated prior to the one-year date).
- All teams involved in a retained salary transaction will have cap implications if the contract is bought out or terminated.
- Teams who retain salary on a players contract, will have the full value of the cap hit act against the teams salary cap total, regardless of whether the player is reassigned to the minors by their current team.
Such transactions will require a compelling explanation. Salary Arbitration
We are not doing salary arbitration as part of this sim. If you feel that a GM and/or agent is negotiating for an RFA in bad faith, contact a commissioner.
Miscellaneous
Performance bonuses count against the cap, however a team can only exceed the upper limit by a maximum of 7.5% (the overage of which counts towards the next season's cap hit).
Teams may not commit more salary to next season than 110% the current salary cap (i.e. exceed their tagging space).
Players claimed off waivers cannot be traded to another club (until the termination of Playoffs of the season in which he was acquired) unless he is first offered on the same terms to the club(s) that previously issued a claim (and the offer has been refused).

2023.06.04 18:47 madsen03 Clarity League EU is looking for new players - of ALL MMRs Organized Competitive Dota
Clarity League is a Europe-based Dota 2 community centered around giving players of all skill levels the opportunity to experience competitive play - in a safe & inclusive environment at that. If this appeals to you, read on and find out how to join for Season 8, the signups for which close in 11 days!
How does it work?
Players register individually, rather than with premade teams. They are then drafted onto their teams for the season (think fantasy sports!). It's first come, first serve - if you sign up early enough and make the cut, you are guaranteed to be drafted and get to play, no ifs and buts.
Seasons are split up into divisions, with 8 teams in a division. Higher divisions are higher average MMR, so you'll face opponents closer to your skill level. We do mean what we say about all MMRs being welcome - last season hosted players spanning from 250 MMR, to 10500 MMR (neither of those are typos!).
Season 8 is a two-stage tournament: the Group Stage spans 7 playdays, determining seeding for double elimination playoffs, which are played across 4 playdays. With two playdays per week, the max total duration of the season is just over 5 weeks (June 27th - August 3rd) - with more details on the schedule being available on the league Discord server, in the #calendar channel.
Once play starts, you play two series a week - same days, same time, each week (Tuesdays and Thursdays at 20:00 CEST), with BO2s throughout the group stage, and BO3s in the playoffs (with a pair of BO1s in the lower bracket) - no scheduling struggles, with play exclusively in Captains Mode. All you have to do is sign up, show up, and play some Dota!
We also run an inhouse league - see the #inhouse-info channel on the Discord for more info - though keep in mind it's not always active.
FAQ
How do I get started? For starters, join the Clarity Discord Server - we post all updates and announcements there. The registration link - as well as every other important link - can be found in the #information channel on Discord, as well as in recent updates in the #announcements channel. Check the playdays in #calendar, and if they work for you, register using the signup form (taking care to read the descriptions on the questions).
How does this work? Once you're sure that you can play every matchday (based on the #calendar channel), use the Sign-up Form to register for the season. Later on - during the activity check period - you'll receive a Discord message to confirm you're still able & willing to play. Pay close attention to DMs - Discord may hide messages from admins as Message Requests!
When the player pool is confirmed, we host Player Drafts. Again, think fantasy sports - captains bid on players to create their teams. We hold one draft for each Division, and the player pool for each Division is made up of players that remain in the pool upon the completion of the previous draft.
Once all teams are finalized, you join your team's Discord server and on June 27th, you play your first series with your team. You and your team coordinate matters like in-game roles, potential practice sessions, and gameplanning.
Can I play if I'm [x] MMR? Yes! The only MMR-related requirement we have is that your MMR is calibrated, and - ideally - that you remember your MMR from before patch 7.33. Players of all skill levels participate in Clarity League every season - the current MMR spread for Season 8 spans a range from 900 MMR to 9900 MMR (and we've had both lower and higher in past seasons!). Seasons are also split into divisions, so players will generally face opponents closer to their own skill level.
Can I play if I’m not from Europe? You can, yes - but keep in mind that every single game will be played on European servers, and the schedule is crafted with European players in mind. Nevertheless, we’ve had players from NA and SEA participate - just make sure you’re comfortable with the playtime and what will likely be higher ping, if you decide to participate from another region.
Is there a prize pool? No - introducing money to amateur environments largely serves to incentivize cheating, and we just don’t see the value in doing so.
Do our matches get casted? Some of them do, yeah! In the past about 1 in 4 of all series are casted by community members, and we organize casts for the Grand Finals of each division every season. We also welcome up and coming casters to join the community if they're looking for games to cover!
I'm unable to make it to one of my matches! What do I do? Teams are allowed to replace one player from the roster with a temporary standin. Using any more than that will result in a forfeit loss, and missing too many matches will likely result in a ban from the league - so don't register if you're guaranteed to miss matches.
I can't play every matchday, but I still want to participate. Is there anything I can do? Absolutely! Once you join the Discord server, you can keep an eye on the #standins channel - if a team is missing a player, they'll need a temporary replacement, and that's where you can help them out if you're around that evening. You can also give our inhouse league a try, featuring auto-balanced teams and a leaderboard, all hosted from within our Discord - or you could simply join to hang out in the Discord, and stay up to date on future events that might fit you & your schedule better!
Got more questions? League participants & staff members will be happy to answer any questions you have here on reddit - alternatively, you can simply join the Discord and ask whatever's on your mind in the #league-questions channel! You can also feel free to DM me here on reddit or on Discord (Madsen St. Alessia#1964) if you have questions you'd prefer to ask privately.

Right now Sling TV is running a half off promotion for the first month of service. Except as soon as the NHL playoff started the promotion switched to $10 off the first month of service. Then as soon as the game ended the promotion switched back to half off. Pretty sneaky of them.

IRL Moves
Since we are in sim-mode, IRL moves do not apply to the sim, except for five key exceptions:
- Players retiring (if they retire IRL, they're out of the sim and cannot be signed),
- Player suspensions (ex: Slava Voynov),
- Transactions involving a foreign professional entering NHL,
- An NHL player signing in another league (ex: Liiga),
- Players being placed on long-term injured reserve.
Regarding the 3rd point, if the player announces he is officially returning to the NHL or he signs IRL with an NHL team, then he is available to sign. Until then, he cannot be signed.
Coach hirings/firings, AHL contracts, relocation, etc. are not part of this sim.
Keep it Realistic
You can't be perfect since plenty of teams could go many ways. If your team is clearly rebuilding, you should continue to rebuild and help the process.
Try not to acquire guys just for the purpose of flipping them later. We're not outright banning it since it happens IRL sometimes, but it's super uncommon, especially for bigger names. Rebuilding teams rarely take cap dumps to help out other teams in exchange for late round picks. If it is a fair trade, it can still be accepted. There will need to be incentive for teams to acquire cap dumps. Don't include unnecessary pieces or trade picks too far out (trading picks after 2024 will require a compelling reason). Don't trade the rights to retired players.
We are asking each GM for an initial offseason plan. This plan includes basic things like which direction the team is headed this summer, but with slightly more detail such as whether they will hope to pursue more options via trades or free agency, how they will deal with their cap space (or lack thereof), etc.
You will not be able to sign or trade anyone until your plans are submitted and approved. If you wish to amend your plan, submit it via
mod mail, including your reasoning for the amendment.
[GM Plan Form]() Throughout free agency, the mod team will reach out to GMs to see if they are changing their plans due to transactions that have taken place in the sim (i.e. missing out on free agents, changes in the trade market, etc.).
THIS NOT FANTASY HOCKEY, DO NOT TREAT THIS AS FANTASY HOCKEY OR NHL 23 BE A GM
Trades
We realize GMs want to be more active than their real-life counterparts but we will be pretty strict on allowing trades in the sim. When you submit a trade or signing, both parties must send the trade in to the office of the commissioner (via mod mail). You also must include a justification as to why the trade makes sense for your party including how it will affect the cap, lineup and future roster decisions. Please use the below template. All players, picks, additional terms, rights to players, and salary retention amounts must be specified and identical in both parties' submissions.
Before making a trade, we encourage you to find multiple comparable trades which will convince us that the trade is realistic. Please do not compare each trade to the Matt Duchene to Ottawa trade and say "Well, it's more realistic than that one".
We will do our best to announce the trades right away as they come in. Do not post pending trades in other threads until they are posted. Please allow us at least 24 hours to approve trades and for graphics to be prepared.
Try not to blow your load, especially on the first day. Be patient, especially with trades. Just try. You'll thank us later. Those who follow this advice usually will find incredible bargains and can take advantage of other GM's mistakes.
Trade Submission Template
We would like teams to use the following template when submitting trades to ensure all relevant information is included.
Team A receives:
Team B receives:
Corresponding moves: (players sent down, called up, or put on waivers; answer "none" if not applicable)
Cap/salary implications:
Goal:
Justification:
Comparables:
Other options pursued:
Long-term implications:
I certify that I own the assets I am trading away; my team remains roster & cap compliant; I have complied with any no-trade lists; etc.
Example
NYR receives: Tyler Motte
WPG receives: 2023 4th Round Pick (WPG)
Corresponding moves: None
Cap/salary implications: The Rangers can take the remainder of Motte's $1,225,000 cap hit.
Goal: The Rangers are looking to add depth for a playoff push. The Canucks are looking to acquire future assets for a player on an expiring contract.
Justification: The Rangers are solidly in a playoff position and are looking to buy at the deadline. Motte can fill a 4th line role.
Comparables: SEA traded Mason Appleton to WPG for a 2023 4th before the 2022 TDL. MTL traded Nick Cousins to VGK for a 2021 4th before the 2020 TDL.
Other options pursued: The Rangers also tried to acquire Derick Brassard and Vladislav Namestnikov, but were unable to make a deal work.
Long-term implications: The Rangers are willing to give up a mid-round pick to add depth now.
I certify that I own the assets I am trading away; my team remains roster & cap compliant; I have complied with any no-trade lists; etc.
No-Trade/No-Movement Clauses
These will be handled by TBD. If you wish to trade a player with a No-Trade or No-Movement Clause, you must message them, requesting a list of teams a player can or cannot be traded to, or if a player would be willing to waive his No-Movement Clause. Please give them at least 24 hours to fulfill such requests.
Trading UFA Rights
We have tried this in the past and some agents felt obligated to have the UFA sign in the city that acquired the players' rights. We feel it would be best if every team gets a fair chance so this year we will NOT be allowing trading for UFA rights. This will also hopefully lead to fewer trades and more UFA signings.
Additionally, we will not allow you to sign and trade UFAs or pending UFAs.
Conditional Picks
You cannot trade picks with conditions, with some exceptions:
- Lottery protection
- Higheloweetc. of multiple picks in a given round
- Settling scenarios based on previous trade conditions
We realize it happens in real life, but it is hard to track from experience and hopefully it will cut down on the amount of unnecessary trade conditions.
Unfair Value
To avoid exploitation and chaos in the trade market, we sometimes need to step in to preserve the sim's integrity. This may be somewhat subjective, so the trade committee will discuss and vote on most trades. Your trade will go through more smoothly if you provide ample justification and can offer comparable trades. Some common issues include:
- Undervaluing cap space or salary - Since there is no real money involved in this simulation and no accountability to owners or future cap issues, people can undervalue these assets. Please provide examples of comparable trades.
- Undervaluing future draft picks - Similarly, since there is no accountability within the sim for these assets, unnecessarily adding late draft picks or too high draft picks can be problematic. Again, provide examples of comparable trades.
- Differing opinions on the value of players or prospects - These usually will go through, but may require further explanation.
Vetoes
sandman730, meatb4ll, and TBD are gonna be the “veto panel” and we are gonna take it very seriously. If the vote is unanimous 3-0 either way, then we will accept/reject the trade or signing. If it is 2-1 either way, then we will ask TBD for their opinions and votes. We will then come to a decision with the majority winning. There are a number of reasons why a trade or signing may be vetoed by the trade committee:
- Violates the CBA (ex: puts a team over the contract limit)
- Involves NTCs (i.e., the player would block the trade)
- Puts a team over the cap or roster limit (or under the floor), without them having a clear plan for how to get back under (or over)
- Violates other house rules (ex: trading UFAs)
- Unrealistic (see above)
- Unfair value (see above)
- Goes against their plan (or goes too far all-in on either the present or future)
meatb4ll will communicate veto decisions and discussions.
Entry Draft
Rounds 1-3 of the draft will take place on the chat channel on Fri. June 23rd at 8pm ET. We kindly ask that everyone attends this in the chat since it will go a lot smoother not having to wait for GMs and it is one of the most exciting parts of the sim in terms of trades and activity. This is the one day we hope to have all GMs and AGMs alike participate since we require your cooperation. Draft day trades involving players/prospects must be submitted 24 hours before the start of the draft (Thu. June 22nd at 8pm ET). Trades made during the draft (involving draft picks) must be submitted via DM to the commissioners.
On Sat. June 24th at 2pm ET, we will host Rounds 4-7 for those who would like to participate. It is not mandatory, you will just be auto-picked if you don’t show up. There will not be any trading allowed for this portion of the draft.
If a GM cannot make it either night, you are welcome to appoint an AGM to draft for the team, submit a custom auto-draft list, or respect our auto-draft list (Bob McKenzie, then Future Considerations). Please confirm this via mod mail or (if mid-draft) via DM to the commissioners.
Please make your selections as promptly as possible to ensure the draft runs smoothly for everyone. Do not delay your selection to make a meme/image (you are welcome to post them afterwards). We will allow 2 min per selection for Rounds 1-3 and 1 min for Rounds 4-7. Each team will be allowed a 2 min timeout (one per team). We also will take a brief intermission (~10 min) between rounds.
If you wish to draft players not listed on the Elite Prospects Draft Board, you must petition the commissioners via mod mail before the start of the draft.
Qualifying Offers
GMs will need to submit a list of who they are sending Qualifying Offers to, among RFAs, and who they are letting test free agency (becoming UFAs). We will have a thread for this and they will be due by Sun. June 25th at 5pm ET (don’t pull a Dale Tallon). If you have further questions about this process, read about it in the CBA post and message a commissioner or leave a comment if you have further questions.
Free Agency
We will have 3 RFA agents and 4 UFA agents who have chosen the clients they will represent. Not every RFA/UFA will need an agent and you can find the lists on the spreadsheet, but generally, if the player played 15+ NHL games last season, he will require an agent. For the rest of the RFAs (those marked "Commissioners"), if they were qualified both in the sim and IRL, we will wait until they get an IRL contract and match it in the sim; if they were only qualified in the sim, they will be signed for their qualifying offers. For the rest of the UFAs, message the commissioners (via mod mail) with a contract offer. Please include a justification as to why the signing makes sense for your party including, for GMs, how it will affect the cap, lineup and future roster decisions. Please use the below template.
When both a GM and agent have come to a finalized deal, both sides need to submit the contract offer to the mods (via mod mail).
This contract offer must include the cap hit, term, any no-trade clauses, and any performance bonuses. Please keep it realistic as it could cause a domino effect when using comparables.
There will be the possibility for offer sheets, however, right now we are not sure the best way to determine who the player would actually pick. Ideas are encouraged. That being said, it’s more likely a player would choose a contender, hometown, long contract, good place in the lineup, or high salary rather than just picking at random. We also want to mention how rare offer sheets are in real life.
Agents have been sworn under the Oath of Bettman that they will be honest, realistic, and of course fun.
NHL CBA contract rules apply (more information here). Signing a player in free agency and then trading the player is prohibited.
Signing Submission Template
We would like teams to use the following template when submitting signing to ensure all relevant information is included.
Team:
Player:
Year(s):
AAV:
Other clauses: (NTC/NMC, performance bonuses, etc.; answer "none" if not applicable)
Corresponding moves: (players sent down, called up, or put on waivers; answer "none" if not applicable)
Cap/salary implications:
Goal:
Justification:
Comparables:
Other options pursued:
Long-term implications:
I certify that my team remains roster & cap compliant.
Example
Team: Columbus Blue Jackets
Player: Jack Roslovic
Year(s): 2
AAV: $4,000,000
Other clauses: None
Corresponding moves: None
Cap/salary implications: The Blue Jackets still have ~$22.8M in cap space for 2022-23, which should be sufficient for our needs.
Goal: The Blue Jackets are looking to keep a local player who has played well for the team.
Justification: While Roslovic had an excellent 2020-21 season, he regressed in 2021-22. A short term deal allows him to demonstrate that he can continue to be a valuable player without hamstringing us with a burdensome contract should he underperform.
Comparables: Ryan Spooner signed with NYR for 2yr x $4M in the 2018 offseason. Chris Tierney signed with OTT for 2yr x $3.5M in the 2020 offseason. Ryan Strome signed with NYR for 2yr x $4.5M in the 2020 offseason.
Other options pursued: None, Roslovic was a RFA that we wished to keep.
Long-term implications: While this contract will walk Roslovic to UFA status, we hope that he continues to perform well and we are able to sign a more long-term extension with him once Voracek's contract is off our books.
I certify that my team remains roster & cap compliant.
Extensions
Players with one year remaining on a multi-year contract are also eligible for extensions. We are allowing each team to extend one such player, provided the AAV is over $6M. Message the Commissioners (via mod mail) with a competitive offer, and an explanation for why you want to extend the player.
GM vs Assistant GM
The GM is the one who makes the final decisions and who other GMs should message. You are encouraged to speak to anyone including Assistants, but for trades and updates on where they stand, please contact the GMs. The assistants are here to serve as a second opinion, fill in on things the GM might have made unclear, and ultimately serve as backups in case the GM needs to be replaced, for example on draft day.
Respect
PLAY NICE. If people act like dicks in trade/FA negotiations, particularly in agreeing to something and then going back on their word, PM the admins and we'll take care of it. Repeat offenders will get removed from the sim. Racism, homophobia, and other forms of bigotry will not be tolerated. No politics.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or DM any commissioner. If we need to clarify some things, we will do so.

2023.06.04 18:24 Livid-Screen2880 Rangers' Offensive Core is One of the Oldest in the NHL
2023.06.04 17:49 Awesome512345 Charge has been screwed by an unbalanced knockout bracket and are now ranked fourth in APAC for Playoffs
I don't know if anyone's discussed this but Charge has been quite unfortunate due to the unfairly balanced (poorly designed) knockout brackets and is now facing a pretty low seeding into the playoffs at the end of the season despite being seeded first from the Spring Qualifers.
Firstly according to the official OWL website, the East Region "playoff qualifications will be determined by average placement in both Spring and Summer knockout rounds". My interpretation of this is that due to Charge losing to Dreamers in the lower bracket finals, they actually score a placement lower than Infernal, Spark and Fuel, and that their qualifier performance wouldn't play a factor into their play off chances. This means that I think it's pretty near impossible for Charge to top seed in APAC even if they sweep Summer qualifiers and it'll be hard for them to even seed top 2 as they're currently 4th out of 6 teams in the region.
I do think the average placement of both knockouts is a pretty valid system to determine the best teams in the East, if the knockout brackets were made fairly to favour the top seed from the prior qualifers. Group A of the East had the 1st, 3rd and 5th seeded APAC teams while Group B of the West had the 2nd, 4th and 6th best seeded APAC teams, with both groups having a balanced selection of contenders teams (1st, 2nd and 3rd from alternating groups from the opens).
Note: Even if contenders teams had internal seeding that resulted in 02 Blast (the best contenders team) being placed into the weaker Group B for balancing, that still doesn't balance the brackets enough as the most important factor has to be the balancing of OWL teams first as the OWL teams are more likely to be top 3 bracket contenders + for playoff seeding, which I'll try highlight more below.
What this means is that Group A is a lot harder (by seeding) as it has stronger teams on average all fighting for the same one position to the Mid-Season Madness. Basically the standard for how people make any brackets in any game is to have the 1st and 4th seed in the same side, and the 2nd and 3rd seed in the other side to ensure it's fairly balanced for the top 4 teams. As for Seoul and Shanghai I'd probably put 5th seed with 1st and 4th to make it the most 'fair' for teams but isn't as important. However the bracket that OWL decided to use meant that Infernal as a second seeded team had the easier bracket with only the Fuel and Dragons as competition from OWL, and a (by Open Qualifier seeding) a balanced trio of contenders teams.
What a fair bracket should look like is that Charge and Fuel should've been in the same side of the bracket as due to Charge getting top seed, they deserved the statistically easier OWL opponent in Fuel instead of the far harder OWL opponent in Spark. This means that firstly it'd be a lot more likely for Charge to make finals (by seeding skill level and a Fuel on the upswing is still likely an easier opponent than Spark) and even if Charge loses a match in their more balanced bracket, they're more likely to retain a better placement to keep their play off chances alive. Furthermore a balanced bracket will force Charge to have to lose to the fourth seeded Fuel to drop from 1st to 4th instead of it being due to being locked in the harder Group A bracket.
A way of balancing brackets for ease of visualisation is just swapping Spark and Fuel from their groups. Yes by performance that'd make Group A a lot weaker than Group B but by seeding is technically the most balanced the brackets can be. This does mean that Infernal and Spark would be forced to fight for the same one spot to MSM which may seem unfair but by seeding is the most fair as they ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively in qualifiers.
I will note that yes Infernal is now the stronger team compared to Charge and O2 Blast is stronger than Poker Face to make the groups seem balanced, but on seeding Charge did out-place Infernal and deserved that 'easier' more fair bracket run. Btw as a Spark fan I'm still happy either way with the weekend results but just a little frustrated that what seems like a poorly designed bracket might cost Charge a high seeding or even a spot for playoffs at the end of the season.
If there was another way the bracket was made that I'm not made aware of (like if Charge was given the choice to actively choose their second OWL team opponent) pls let me know, and if I'm missing something pls let me know also, otherwise RIP to the Guangzhou economic and technological development zone :(
Edit: I'll clarify tldr that I'm not actually arguing that Charge deserved any better placing than they did but more for the integrity of the bracket and OWL, as for example if Infernal was top seeded (as they should have been if they didn't throw round 1) they would've been put in a Group A bracket alongside Spark as third seed, and Charge would get a far easier Group B bracket run as second seed. I hope that clarifies the issue kinda with the way the brackets were made, and hopefully it's not a thing OWL does in future brackets (if they decide to split the Summer knockouts or however that'll work).

2023.06.04 15:34 ARSENAL_DAILYNEWS Arsenal 2022/23 Season Review.
Arsenal 22/23 A Season Review Part 1 Of 3: August-World Cup: A Stunning Start. The 2022/23 season is Mikel Arteta’s 3rd full campaign in charge of Arsenal and as well the 3rd of his managerial career. His 1st game in the hot seat came on Boxing Day of 2019, a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth which saw Arsenal drop down a place to 12th in the table. Just a few months into his reign and Arteta was the first high-profile figure in English Football to be diagnosed with Covid-19, the virus which drew the Premier League to a standstill for 3 months and the wider world for a much longer time. It was to empty stadiums which Arsenal played out the remainder of their season which eventually concluded on the 1st of August. An 8th-placed finish was the club’s lowest since 1995. However, there was joy to be found as there so often has been for Arsenal, in the FA Cup. In the one and only Covid FA Cup Final played in front of no spectators Arsenal came from behind to defeat London rivals Chelsea for their record-extending 14th FA Cup, after reaching the final with an unlikely triumph over Manchester City in the semis. Arteta’s first half-season had ended brilliantly and his first full-season started in the same vein with more silverware following as Arsenal defeated Premier League Champions Liverpool to win the Community Shield. Tough times quickly followed and
Arteta may have been somewhat grateful for the empty stadiums, as it’s questionable whether the board would have held their nerve and kept faith with such a young manager through this dreadful period had the fans been inside the ground and able to voice their frustrations. On Boxing Day of 2020, not only did Mikel celebrate the 1 year anniversary of his first match in charge, he celebrated a 3-1 victory over Chelsea, his side's first league win for nearly 2 months. It was the first time Saka, Martinelli & Smith Rowe all started a league game together for Arsenal. It was to prove a seminal moment, but it wasn’t enough to move his team up from 15th in the table. It was never so bad again for Arteta and his Arsenal team, with the side eventually settling for a repeat of the previous season’s finish, again coming in 8th. Failure to win the Europa League (exiting the competition to Villarreal in the Semi-Finals, who were incidentally managed by Unai Emery, the manager sacked prior to Arteta taking the job) meant that Arsenal would be without European football for the first time since the 95-96 campaign. And the 21-22 season would begin horribly with Arsenal bottom after 3 matches in which they failed to score and conceded 9 goals. However as the season progressed Arsenal began to find some resilience, quality and self-belief. The sides upheaval came not coincidentally around the time club captain Aubameyang was stripped of that duty before being allowed to depart for Barcelona in the January window. Aubameyang had been the team’s standout performer when winning the FA Cup, but since those performances had seen him rewarded with a new bumper contract which made him by far the club’s best-paid player, his attitude and performance level had become a problem that needed to be dealt with.
More so than any win, it was actually a home defeat to Champions City which perhaps best demonstrated this new Arsenal which was beginning to emerge. They took City on and pushed them all the way only to eventually lose in the 93rd minute, whilst being a man down for the final half-hour with centre-back Gabriel being harshly dismissed. The fight was on with local rivals Tottenham for the final Champions League spot and it was firmly in Arsenal’s hands until a run of 4 defeats in 5 allowed Spurs back into contention. The Gunners appeared to retake control with a run of 4 straight wins before losing tamely away at Spurs and then Newcastle, in the end missing out by 2 points. Throughout the season Arsenal had spells of real high-quality football, and the fans had taken to the project with more passion and belief than they had in the final years of Wenger’s reign or during Unai Emery’s short-lived stint. In the end, though they missed out on the prize of Champions League football due to a combination of injuries to important players and the inexperience of a young group.
Despite the significant setback of missing out on a Champions League spot having held it in their hands for many of the season’s final months, Arsenal still entered the summer of 2022 with plenty of reasons for optimism. Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe had emerged as the real breakout stars of the prior season and Gabriel Martinelli wasn’t too far behind. There had been some clearly smart signings made by the club, in particular, those of Martin Ødegaard and Ben White, signed from Real Madrid and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively. The July purchases of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko for a combined 75M from Manchester City seemed yet more smart business, in them, they had picked up two quality players with four Premier League winners medals each, and both arriving aged 25 they seemed in the perfect age bracket to become big players for Arsenal not just for the immediate but as well the foreseeable future.
Jesus’ Arsenal debut came in a 5-3 friendly win over FC Nurnberg in which he scored twice. He followed this up with another in a 2-0 win over Everton as Arsenal continued their pre-season with a tour of the USA. Arsenal played 3 matches in America and won all 3, by far the most impressive being a 4-0 trouncing of Chelsea. The Gunners made it 5 pre-season wins from 5 when they returned home the following weekend to beat Sevilla 6-0 at the Emirates, a hattrick from Jesus meaning he had netted 7 goals in his first 5 appearances in Arsenal colours. Arsenal would get the Premier League season underway away at Crystal Palace, under the Friday night lights of Selhurst Park. No Premier League side would have envied them this difficult fixture, Arsenal had experienced just how tough it was 4 months prior when a 3-0 loss away at the ground began a torrid run of results for the Gunners. Arsenal had also begun the previous season away on a Friday night and come unstuck against newly promoted Brentford. Again Arsenal was straight back under the Premier League spotlight to see whether they had grown and matured from such damaging defeats last season. The Arsenal quickly proved they were up to the test, starting right on the front foot and keeping Palace penned back in their own third. Jesus immediately highlighted the new dimension he was going to bring to Arsenal’s attack, when his strength and then neat dribbling fashioned a great chance out of nothing, a chance Martinelli should have done much better with, his side-foot finish going the wrong side of the post with the goal gaping. The Brazilian would make up for it in the 20th minute when a corner was headed into the six-yard box by Zinchenko, who was picked out by Saka to deliver a free header. His head found Martinelli’s and from close range, he was able to notch Arsenal’s first of the league campaign. That was to be the only goal in the game for the next hour, but despite Arsenal’s slender lead they rarely looked in danger of being pegged back. On the instances that keeper Aaron Ramsdale was called into action, he was ready and dealt with Palace’s occasional threats soundly. The game was put beyond Crystal Palace in the 85th minute when Bukayo Saka’s dangerous ball across the six-yard box was headed into his own net by Guehi. This made certain of 3 richly deserved points for the Gunners.
Jamie Carragher for one was particularly impressed with the start Arsenal made to the game saying afterwards: “Arsenal played like a big team. When I say a big team, I’m talking about a Man City or Liverpool, a team who wherever they go, dominate the opposition. I felt like we were watching City or Liverpool in that first 20 minutes, half an hour.” Fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was more impressed with Arsenal in the second half saying: “The question mark about Arsenal will be whether they’ve got that robustness and resilience, physicality to get through that difficult 15 or 20 minute periods in away matches, and they got through that (tonight) and that impressed me.” Saliba was also singled out for praise with Carragher adding: “He looked the real deal. He adds something, we’ve always felt they were weak, at Brentford last season they got bullied and here last season, his physical stature will certainly help them in tough away games.”
Arsenal’s first home league game of the season was against Leicester City. The opening goal began with Jesus tormenting Johnny Evans tight to the touchline, after beating him he fed Martinelli who was able to get into the penalty area and find Xhaka, the Swiss international touched it first time back into Jesus who took a touch to steady himself then teased it over the head of Ward in the Leicester goal and into the net. It was an angle he had no right to try from, let alone score from but such was the Brazilian forwards confidence in front of the goal he fancied his chances from anywhere. The goal was nominated for Premier League goal of the month. Jesus got his second to double Arsenal’s advantage in the 35th minute, this time in a much simpler fashion. A corner across the six-yard box was not dealt with, a Leicester head on it only sped up its path to Jesus who was waiting to nod home from practically on the goal line.
Later in the first half, Leicester thought they had a way back into the game when referee Darren England pointed to the spot having judged Ramsdale to have brought down Jamie Vardy. However VAR advised him to check the monitor, and after re-watching the incident it was clear there was no contact made and the penalty decision was reversed. Leicester did still manage to half their deficit early in the second half though, a long ball was flicked on leaving Saliba in a difficult situation to deal with. Ramsdale was advancing but wouldn’t get there first and Vardy was waiting on the French defender’s shoulder, leaving him no alternative but to try and head the ball clear whilst facing his own goal. He only succeeded in diverting it into the net. This could have been a moment when the Arsenal crowd got nervous and frustrated. They had allowed a soft goal and their youngest defender was at fault. However the crowd immediately rallied behind Saliba and his teammates, he and the team needed help putting that mistake behind them and the crowd’s noise in the aftermath of conceding will have been reassuring to the players.
Demonstrating this, Arsenal went straight up the other end and scored, Ward made a meal of a cross, dropping it at the feet of Jesus who squared for Xhaka. The Swiss midfielder was being deployed in a new, more adventurous role where he was spending more time in the opposition box, he got his reward for this new tactic with a simple tap-in from right in front of the goal. Leicester would again reduce the home team’s lead to one however when Iheanacho found Maddison, who was able to shoot straight through Ramsdale. The young English keeper will have been disappointed at being so easily beaten from such an angle, his wide-open legs presenting the opportunity to the Leicester midfielder. Again Arsenal immediately responded to the setback by going up the other end and scoring again. This move began with Martinelli winning the ball back and feeding Ødegaard who moved the ball on to Jesus, who carried it forward before finding Martinelli who shot low from outside the box, he beat the outstretched Ward and hit the bottom corner, with the ball hitting the inside of the post on its way in. It had been a good day at the office for Arsenal and a great day for Gabriel Jesus, though despite scoring 2 and assisting the other 2 of Arsenal’s 4 goals, according to his manager Jesus left the field disappointed because: “he thinks he should have scored 4, that’s the sort of mentality you need. I wouldn’t like to play against him. He’s so mobile, intuitive, sharp and proactive in any moment or phase of the game.”
Arsenal next travelled to newly promoted Bournemouth. It took The Gunners just 5 minutes to take the lead and again it came from the phenomenal centre-forward play of Gabriel Jesus. A loose touch from White saw the ball launch high into the air, the Brazilian reacted first, beautifully controlling the ball whilst at the same time using his considerable body strength to hold off the Bournemouth midfielder, with exceptional balance he then dribbled around two other Bournemouth shirts until he was on the edge of the box facing their defence, with a lovely disguised pass he then fed Martinelli who was free to his left, his shot was saved but it fell straight at the feet of new captain Martin Ødegaard who was on hand to notch his first of the season. Rightfully though the praise went to Jesus with commentator Alan Smith saying: “You won’t see a better example of centre forward play than this.”
Ødegaard had to wait just 6 more minutes for his second of the season, a cross along the floor from White found Jesus who was free, his first touch wasn’t the best but it allowed it to set up nicely for the Norwegian to strike first time, which he duly did and the ball flashed into the net. Early in the second half and Arsenal had a third goal, with Xhaka setting it back to Saliba just inside the penalty area. Saliba struck it beautifully the first time, keeping his shot down under the bar and too perfectly placed for the keeper to do anything about. It was just Saliba’s second goal in senior football but he had finished it with the class and composure of a player who had scored 200. The strike drew Zinchenko to his knees, clutching his head in disbelief at the quality of the finish and unsurprisingly it was voted as Arsenal’s goal of the month. Jesus thought he’d netted Arsenal’s 4th but a VAR check ruled the goal out for offside, so the North Londoners had to settle for a 3-0 win in what had been an excellent away performance.
The Arsenal faced more newly promoted opposition the following week, this time back at home against Fulham for Arteta’s 100th Premier League game in charge. They would be without Zinchenko and Partey who had picked up injuries and were replaced by Tierney and Elneny respectively. The best chance of the first half went to Saka who got beyond his marker to face Leno one-against one, but he was unable to beat the keeper. It would be Fulham who took the lead however with Arsenal falling behind for the first time in the season. From the full-back position, Saka flighted a ball into Gabriel, who unnecessarily played himself into trouble. He never seemed to have the ball truly under his spell, and his second touch invited Mitrovic to try and take it off him, the defender then got his body positioning wrong, and failed to protect the ball allowing the forward to nick it from behind him and then the Serb was able to keep his composure and finish past Ramsdale.
Fulham’s lead lasted just 8 minutes, Martin Ødegaard lodging Arsenal’s response. There was a degree of good fortune about the goal, with a big deflection on the strike. But there was no doubt the Norwegian had deserved it, he was having an outstanding game with all of Arsenal’s danger coming through him. He was constantly creating, with inventive passes and dribbling runs. In this instance, a clever stepover had bought him the space for the shot. Ødegaard continued to lead Arsenal’s push for a winner with he, in particular, deserving to be on the winning side, and the winner did come though not until the 86th minute. Leno failed to deal with a corner, missing his attempted punch clearance and the ball fell at the feet of Gabriel who was able to gain the perfect redemption for his earlier error by securing all 3 points for his side. The goal kept Arsenal at the top of the Premier League as they remained the only team with a 100% record.
Arsenal finished August with another home game, facing Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa. This presented Arsenal with a chance to win their opening 5 league games for the first time since 2004. Saka passed up a golden opportunity to give Arsenal the ideal start when Martinelli’s cross found him completely free at the back post, it was set up perfectly for Saka to hit on the volley, which he did but he got too under the ball and lifted it horribly high and wide from inside the six-yard box. An Arsenal opening goal felt inevitable however and it came on the half-hour mark when Emi Martinez could only push out an Xhaka shot as far as Gabriel Jesus, who was on hand to punish him. Martinez did go someway to redeeming himself later in the half with an excellent stop to deny a brilliant half-volley from Martinelli from 25 yards out.
Arsenal dominated the first half and continued their domination in the second but could not increase their advantage, it was instead Aston Villa who got the second goal of the game, in a somewhat controversial fashion. A corner from Douglas Luiz went straight into the net with Ramsdale unable to reach the ball due to his path being completely blocked by Kamara, who also limited the keepers’ movement by having both arms wrapped around his back. The goal stood but Arsenal cancelled it out in their own way, by going straight up the Villa end and retaking the lead. Saka coolly picked out Martinelli who struck it the first time on the half volley, Martinez clawed desperately at the ball but could not prevent it from going over his goal line and The Gunners were able to see the victory out. Arsenal’s player of the month was unsurprisingly Gabriel Jesus with 3 goals and 3 assists in 5 games. Arsenal’s maximum points after 5 games saw Mikel Arteta pick up Premier League manager of the month.
Arsenal started September with a chance to go 4 points clear of City in 2nd, after just six games. Standing in their way was Manchester United who would be hosting the Gunners at Old Trafford, a ground Arsenal had only won at once in the league since 2006, that one as well being without fans during the Covid season. Arsenal was boosted by the return of Zinchenko but had to start with their 3rd choice midfielder Sambi Lokonga for the Partey role after Elneny had followed the Ghanaian onto the treatment table. Regardless of the blow, Arsenal appeared to have made the ideal start when Saka threaded the needle and put Martinelli clean through on goal. The Brazilian finished brilliantly to give Arsenal the lead, but VAR advised the referee to have a look at a potential foul in the build-up. On review, the referee judged Ødegaard to have won the ball from Eriksen unfairly and chalked the goal off. The intervention made by Lee Mason on VAR was later judged by a Premier League review to be an incorrect one, the minimal contact not penalised in real-time by the ref was judged not to be a clear or obvious error. The review came too little and too late as far as Arsenal were concerned as they’d lost their lead and instead found themselves trailing at half-time after a good move from United culminated in a debut goal for Antony who finished past Ramsdale.
VAR’s intervention in the Arsenal goal was always likely to prove a vital one as remarkably United had not lost at Old Trafford when leading at half-time since 1984. This showed the size of Arsenal’s task going into the second half, but they continued to probe and ask questions of United and they got their equaliser on the hour mark when the ball broke to Saka in the penalty area after Ødegaard had looked to thread one through to Jesus. United dealt with that immediate threat but could only clear as far as Saka who slotted through the legs of Martinez for his first of the season. Arsenal looked to be in the ascendancy, but they were only level for 6 minutes. Overcommitting bodies forward left them without a midfield and after winning it back United was able to counter-attack with Bruno Fernandes who looked and found Rashford in behind the defence and he put United back in front. Arteta reacted immediately by looking to chase the game, giving a debut to summer recruit Fabio Vieira. The changes appeared to backfire however as Arsenal were left with even fewer defensive bodies on the field and in the 75th minute they were cut through once more, with Eriksen and Rashford both left in acres of space as United hit Arsenal once more on the counter-attack. It was a horrible goal for Arsenal to concede, it reminded of the worst years of Wenger with everyone so committed to attacking they had no thought for defending. Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the season going down 3-1.
There were some positives to take in how confidently and capably they had passed the ball around, however, United had defended their penalty area very well and counter-attacked effectively. The frustration for Arsenal was how they had helped them in that regard, by leaving key areas of the midfield devoid of players. Partey had been very badly missed, and to a lesser extent so had Elneny whose defensive intelligence would not have seen him vacate his position as often as Lokonga did. The third goal conceded was perhaps the responsibility of Arteta who had gone all out attack mode too early, given the counter-attacking success United were already enjoying.
Arsenal got the chance to put the defeat behind them 4 days later when they began their Europa League campaign. They were placed in Group A alongside PSV Eindhoven, Bodo/Glimt and FC Zurich, and would kick off against the latter away in Switzerland. Summer signings Matt Turner and Marquinhos made their competitive debuts, and Vieira would make his full debut. Arsenal did some counterattacking of their own in the 16th minute when Vieira found Nketiah who travelled down the wing before playing a great ball across the box which found Marquinhos who expertly finished the first time into the top corner. The hosts equalised on the verge of half-time however when Nketiah was judged to have committed an offence in his own penalty box. The death of the Queen being announced during the first half led to the unusual circumstance of a minute’s silence taking place before the second half. When it did kick off, Arsenal regained the lead in the 62nd minute through Nketiah who was found with a delightful ball by Marquinhos who had made a fine debut. That’s how the score remained. Arsenal would not be in Premier League action that weekend, with their home game against Everton being postponed due to the Queen’s passing. Also delayed was their home game against PSV the following week, so the team were not back in action until 10 days after the Zurich game when they travelled to Brentford.
Arsenal dominated the games opening and took a deserved lead in the 17th minute when Saliba’s header from a corner struck the inside of the post on its way over the line. Just shy of the half-hour mark and Arsenal had their second, again with a header, this time it was Gabriel Jesus who rose to meet Xhaka’s perfectly placed ball. The Gunners then got the ideal start to the second half, when Vieira, making his first start in the Premier League in place of the unavailable Ødegaard, struck a beauty out of nowhere from well outside the box for Arsenal’s September goal of the month. Arsenal was in cruise control, always looking like the more likely team to score whilst barely giving Brentford sight of their goal. In the final minutes, Ethan Nwaneri came on for his Arsenal debut, aged 15 years and 181 days he became the youngest player to ever appear in the Premier League. After the match, Brentford Manager Thomas Frank was one of the first to tip Arsenal for a title challenge saying: “I think they will do brilliantly. I think they compete for the title now.” Xhaka was the resounding winner of Arsenal player of the month picking up 83% of the votes. A once deeply unpopular player, his turnaround best exemplified the strides in the right direction Arsenal were taking.
After the international break, Arsenal returned to action in the North London Derby against hated rivals Tottenham. Arsenal went into the fixture just one point above their opponents. Spurs were content to let Arsenal have possession whilst aiming to contain them and spring counterattacks. They kept Arsenal at bay until the 20th minute when Thomas Partey shot from over 20 yards out and hit it so perfectly that Lloris couldn’t get so much as a fingertip to it, the ball flew past him into the net for Arsenal’s goal of the month. Spurs responded in the 31st minute however after a good counterattack between the front three of Kane, Son and Richarlison saw the latter presented with a chance to cross from inside the penalty area and Arsenal did not effectively deal with the situation, a loose touch from Xhaka put his side back in trouble and Gabriel was panicked into conceding a penalty. Kane stepped up and of course, scored for the 7th time from the spot against Arsenal. This sent the sides in at the break-level pegging.
Arsenal regained the upper hand early in the second half after a shot by Saka was spilt by Lloris to his centre-half Romero who, under pressure from Jesus, looked to return it to the French keeper. Lloris missed the ball, it travelled under his body and then Jesus reacted first to poach it home. Spurs hopes of drawing level for a second time were damaged when Emerson Royal was shown a straight red card in the 62nd minute for a stupid and unnecessarily bad tackle on Martinelli. Arsenal quickly punished this ill discipline getting their third 5 minutes afterwards, with Granit Xhaka rifling past Lloris. At this stage Conte retreated to avoid a hammering, he accepted defeat and took off his offensive players, bringing on defenders to ensure the score line didn’t get embarrassing and Arsenal saw out a comfortable 3-1 derby win. Arsenal next returned to Europa League action putting Bodo/Glimt to the sword with a 3-0 win, goals coming from Nketiah, Holding and Vieira, the latter after brilliant footwork in the box from substitute Jesus.
Next up for Arsenal was another tough test at home against Liverpool. With a win, Arsenal would return to the top of the Premier League. Arsenal had faced Liverpool 4 times the previous season, failing to win any, losing 3 times including twice at home. They had also failed to even score against Liverpool in their last 6 meetings with them, but they needed just 58 seconds on this day, with Saka finding Ødegaard, whose ball between Van Dijk and Alexander Arnold put in Martinelli who finished beyond Alisson. Liverpool recovered well from the nightmare start however and was the better team from that point until they got their deserved equaliser in the 34th minute through Darwin Nunez. It was Arsenal however who went into half-time with the lead when Martinelli led a brilliant counter-attack from a Liverpool set piece, finally taking out both Arnold and Henderson by cutting inside and finding an unmarked Saka who slid in to put his team back in the ascendancy.
Again Liverpool responded well, equalising for a second time early in the second half through Roberto Firmino. From that point on though Arsenal found another level, they searched feverishly for a winning goal, looking to pass Liverpool to death and calving many openings. The noise inside the Emirates had reached deafening decibels as the fans urged their team on. The golden chance came with just under 15 minutes to go when Thiago was judged to have caught the back of Jesus’s foot inside the penalty area, having been beaten to the ball by the striker. Saka stepped up and held his nerve, confidently dispatching an excellent spot kick. Arsenal held out for what was in the end a deserved win after an excellent second-half display. In a decision that had raised a few eyebrows, Tomiyasu had been drafted in for a first league start of the season to go into an unfamiliar left-back position, the move paid dividends as the Japanese international had a fine game up against Mo Salah. The result put Arsenal 14 clear of Liverpool who had endured a dreadful start to the season.
“These are broad shoulders, this is courage. A sporting moment in time. Bukayo Saka.. Such poise! such noise!” – Peter Drury as Saka beats Alisson Becker from the penalty spot.
Four days later Arsenal made it 3 wins from 3 in the Europa, with an away win in Norway on the artificial pitch of Bodo/Glimt. A sole goal from Bukayo Saka was enough after he got on the end of a one-two with Lokonga. His initial shot was blocked by a defender but the ball then deflected in after coming back off the Arsenal winger. Bodo calved out many good chances for themselves but was let down by woeful finishing, squandering chance after chance by blazing high and wide of the target. Arsenal then returned to Premier League action at Elland Road against Leeds, though 40 minutes behind schedule after a power outage just after the game had initially kicked off caused the game to need restarting once power had returned.
Again Saka was the only man to get himself on the scoresheet, his goal coming after Jesus had passed up a golden chance to open the scoring failing to hit the net from close range after Ødegaard had found him with a backheeled flick. Jesus attempted to lift the ball over the keeper, but he lifted it too high and it ended up over the crossbar. Arsenal did not let Leeds off a second time however and punished them after a sloppy cross-field pass from Leeds midfielder Rodrigo only found Saka who headed it into Ødegaard’s path. Ødegaard’s return pass then asked a lot of the winger, but his speed allowed him to reach the ball first. Saka was faced with a tight angle, but it didn’t phase him one bit and he picked out the top corner hitting it high into the roof of the Leeds net.
The second half was full of drama, first when Bamford thought he’d equalised but was instead penalised for a foul on Gabriel. The Leeds striker received a second chance though when Saliba was found guilty of a handball in the box after the referee had checked the monitor. Ramsdale guessed correctly in his dive, but in the end, he wasn’t required as Bamford’s penalty went wide of the post. Arsenal continued to suffer in the second half, struggling to cope with the Leeds onslaught and maintain their slender advantage. Through fatigue and pressure from the home side, Arsenal had lost all ability to pass the ball and could do little else but stay in their own half and try to defend. Ramsdale proved his worth to this Arsenal side with his best performance of the season to date, right when his team needed him most. It appeared as though Arsenal had got the job done when crazily they conceded a second penalty of the half in additional time. Patrick Bamford was nowhere near the ball which was safely back with Ramsdale when Gabriel was penalised for a kick out in the box on the Leeds forward. As well as a penalty, the Brazilian centre-back was also dismissed. However on a VAR review, it was clear that Bamford had fouled Gabriel first, barging him to the floor, so rightfully the decision was reversed and Gabriel’s red card was rescinded. Arsenal held on to a win they’d scarcely deserved and it proved an even bigger win later that day when City lost at Anfield meaning The Gunners stayed 4 points clear after 10 games.
The following Thursday Arsenal were back in action in the Europa League. They were originally scheduled to host Manchester City in the league that mid-week, but the Queens’ death led to the postponement of Arsenal’s fixture with PSV, and it was re-arranged to this game week. Arsenal battered their Dutch visitors, in the end mustering 25 shots to Eindhoven’s 4. As was often the case Saka and Jesus were the standout performers. The young English winger was unstoppable in his direct dribbling runs, unstoppable that is without resorting to fouling, which PSV defenders did time and time again after being skinned by Saka’s great ball control when running at speed. Jesus was similarly dangerous, doing his usual thing of fashioning chances out of nowhere with his quick thinking and somehow even quicker feet. In the end, though the deadlock was broken by Xhaka in the 70th minute when Tomiyasu found him in space 15 yards from the goal. He hit the shot down into the ground and it bobbled just at the right time to go under the keeper and past him.
Next Arsenal travelled to struggling Southampton looking to make it 9 straight wins across the Premier League and Europa. They started fast, and when Xhaka finished off White’s cross with a brilliant volley into the back of the net in the 11th minute, it looked like it would be a case of how many, as it wasn’t the first good chance Arsenal had created. For the first 20 minutes, Southampton couldn’t get out of their own half, Ødegaard cleverly found Jesus with a lifted return pass but his volley was straight at Bazunu in the Saints goal. Jesus was in again after a long ball flighted over the head of Caleta-Car putting the Brazilian clean through until the defender dragged him back using both arms. There seemed to be enough contact for 3 separate penalties in there, but unbelievably the referee Robert Jones didn’t point to the spot and nor did VAR intervene. One of the most inexplicable decisions of the season, and that’s saying something, meant that Arsenal went in at the break only a single goal to the good.
The Southampton defence must have felt encouraged from not being penalised inside the box, as the fouling continued on Jesus outside the box for much of the second half, Lyanco getting away with man-handling Arsenal’s striker time and time again, wrapping both arms around his body whenever the ball was anywhere near the Brazilian. Jones did not however ignore perceived ‘diving’ from Saka showing him a yellow card for simulation, even though there did appear to be some contact. A one-sided refereeing performance and poor finishing from Arsenal allowed the home team back into the game and they got the equalising goal with 25 minutes to go through Armstrong after a swift move cut through Arsenal’s defence. In the 78th minute, Ødegaard thought he’d put Arsenal back in front but Tierney had just carried the ball beyond the line before he was able to cut it back into his captain’s path.
The Gunners had to settle for a point and an end to their winning run, paying the price for not scoring more in the first half. As they began to tire in the second half Southampton calved out some good chances of their own, but there’s no doubt the visitors were also harmed by a dire refereeing performance. The dropped points cut Arsenal’s lead at the top down to two. Another away game followed for The North London side as next they travelled to Eindhoven. With 2 group games remaining, they needed just 1 more win to secure the top spot which would mean they progressed straight through to the final 16, without the need for a playoff game. However Arsenal’s performance was poor, PSV were the better team for 90 minutes and good value for their 2-0 win.

2023.06.04 08:59 Direct-Chipmunk5340 The trade
First, a little drunk. Second, let’s go bandits on starting the Buffalo success, NLL Champs! Living in Denver, I can say I hate the Mammoth bandwagon. Third, this has been on my mind and I think I am feeling a EicheL, being a Stanley cup winner this year. I will say you can down vote me and hate me on not hating EicheL’s success. But what if this was this most win-win, fair trade in all of NHL history. EicheL gets his cup with Vegas (only one) and in the next 3-5 years we get a deep playoff team that also brings home a cup with Tuch and Kerbs. I want to say two years but having a win in the second rounds before Toronto would be bliss too. I just want to feel everyone else’s feelings toward Jack winning his then within the next 5 years us winning the cup. Would we still dislike him or be happy how everything worked out? Also my phone has autocorrected to EicheL and not Eichel.

2023.06.04 05:32 SamStu220 Who wins this trade?
| 10 team SF (start 12, 3 RB), .5 PPR. I’d be getting Taylor. My team is middle of the road. I was a playoff team but wasn’t good enough to win in the winners bracket. My RB room is easily my biggest weakness but I could use some overall depth outside of the Mahomes-Kelce stack (Top WRs are London, Pickens, JAMO, Cooks, Thielen). My other starting RBs are Rachaad White and Miles Sanders. submitted by SamStu220 to fantasyfootballadvice [link] [comments] |
2023.06.04 03:07 ratzy88 In the salary cap era, the team that beats the Leafs in the playoffs goes on to the finals 5 of 8 times, including that last 3 seasons (this season is counted as one of those 3)
since 2005-2006 season Leafs have made 7 playoff appearances (6 if you dont count the 2020 qualifying round i choose not to but after that round i treat like playoffs)
2012-2013 Leafs lost to the Bruins in the first round but the Blackhawks beat the Bruins in the finals
2016-2017, Leafs lost in first round to Caps who then lost to their Penguin demons in round 2 and Pens win the cup!
2017-2018 Bruins again beat the Leafs round 1 (geez Toronto face someone besides Tampa and Boston) Bruins lose in round 2 to the Lightning who go on to lose to the Caps and the Caps win the cup
2018-2019 Boston (for a 3rd time in the Leafs 4th appearance in Salary Cap era) beat the Leafs and then lose to the Blues in game 7 of the finals
2020 leafs lose to columbus in qualifiers (again i dont count it some do, if you count it its 5/8 times if you dont then its 5/7 times)
2020-2021 Canadiens beat the Leafs (LMAO), Canadiens lose to Tampa in the finals sadly
2021-2022 Tampa gain beats the Leafs in round 1 and then loses to the Avs in the finals
2022-2023 The Leafs shockingly made round 2 and shockingly got blasted by the Panthers who go onto the cup final
What did i lean researching this.
- Unless your Tampa or Boston or there was pandemic affecting the NHL the Leafs probably wont play you
- A team the leafs played went on the play the cup champs (at some point) 4 times so far
- if you want to either lose to the champs, play the eastern team that makes the finals or simply make the finals go beat the leafs. They have 1 series win since like 2004 its easy ask boston and tampa
- oh and success of winning the cup if you beat the leafs and make the finals is not great no no has beat the leafs and won the cup yet (in salary cap era)

2023.06.04 00:32 bjeebus [PVE] Venom Bomb 06-03-2023 [Electro (Francine Frye), Human Torch (Annihilus), Bullseye (Classic), Black Widow (Original)]
Norman Osborn had unleashed
H.A.M.M.E.R.'s newest secret
weapon--the Venom Bomb!
Can Spider-Man, Miles Morales, and The
Avengers save the innocent New Yorkers
that Osborn has transformed into
slobbering symbiotes?
This a four day event with four 24 hour sub-events. Featuring H.A.M.M.E.R. and Symbiote goons and and Doc Ock, Venom, and Carnage. This means a lot of power- and special tile-spam, so be prepared.
The Join Forces nodes are on the sub-event pages, one per day. There are no wave nodes.
