/insaneparents is a weird place where you can post those crazy parents who post in those woo-woo anti-vax groups on facebook and do things harmful (directly and indirectly) to their children. Things posted here do not have to be physically abusive. Abusive and insane are not mutually exclusive. The Anti-Vax mom you know isn't legally abusive, but you know she's insane for not vaxxing her kid.

What You Get: MODULE 1: The Presuppositional Playbook Psychology The most fundamental difference in face to face, vs virtual selling is the absolute need to have the prospect be pushing for the sale. They must be the one driving for the solution. They have to want it more than you do. They have to be more engaged in the process than they are face to face. When you sell virtually the more you talk, the worse your close rates will be. When you are sitting with a prospect together, it’s easy to have the momentum of the meeting and the relationship you’ve developed together carry the sale to the finish line. This does not happen virtually. There is a distance, a void between you and the prospect that is easy for them to take your information and disappear, taking it to another advisor they know better. Presuppositional Selling does two important things. First, it structures the sales interaction in such a way that the prospect discovers intrisically the problems, pains, gains, and desire for a solution. One of the most powerful ways P2 selling works is helping the prospect see what they have not seen before. It changes context. It changes the frame. The Crucial 1st Appointment The first appointment in the leverage point that determines the success or failure of your entire sales process. Do a poor first appointment by talking too much, or ‘spilling your candy in the lobby’ and you’re doomed. Prospects won’t show up on the next call, and they will be lost and gone forever. There is an art and a science to doing the first appointment effectively and you’ll see exactly how to do it right. It starts with our 13 steps first appointment playbook. In this playbook you’ll get:
  • How to steamroll the first 6 common objections you may receive at the beginning of a first appointment.
  • How to create authority in the first 30 seconds of a first appointment, by doing the EXACT opposite of what your prospect expects…and what every other salesperson does.
  • The Credibility Transfer: How to use “borrowed credibility” to get your prospects to trust you—even if they don’t know who you are.
  • The PLI “Power Switch” Principle that flips the power dynamic, so YOU are perceived to have the power (and not the prospect).
  • The One Eyed Man principle that STOPS the prospect from treating you like a salesperson.
  • RAPID SUCCESS IN JUST 20 MINUTES: Learn how to do a first appointment in just 20 minutes over the phone, no technology needed.
  • The Decision Matrix: This is the most critical part of the entire sale…and it’s made right here. (Most producers hit only 1 out of the 4 keys to the decision matrix and it costs them sales constantly.)
  • STOP THE HATERS: How to ensure competitors, incumbents, and other ‘characters’ don’t blow up your sales with bad advice to your clients. (PLEASE, if you do nothing else, learn this critical component to stop losing deals needlessly!)
  • The “golden thread of motivation”: This is the thread that holds the entire sale together. When a prospect forgets why they called, why they are meeting with you, or why they are buying, you will fail in closing the sale.
  • The “Fried Chicken Rule”that ensures your prospect is engaged and selling themselves, not tuning out.
  • How to set ROCK SOLID second appointments to ensure you never get a ‘no show’ on your next appointment.
  • The SOLUTION step: How to ensure you are sharing just enough to whet their appetite and create burning curiosity for the next appointment to get them coming back for more, (while being 100% compliant!)

2023.06.04 19:36 CriticalCherry3979 Could I be experiencing OSDD?

Hello.
I have been doing research on OSDD due to having a special interest in psychology, and I wanted some advice on whether some things I experience could be plurality or are normal for the disorders I already have. If it is relevant, I am twenty years old.
For context, I have ADHD, Autism, OCD, Dyscalculia, and Social Phobia.
The discussion of trauma is not until the end of the post and the beginning and end are clearly marked:
[LIKE THIS]
I will begin with discussing my memory. I am notorious for remembering basically nothing. Before the recent months, I have always assumed this to be my ADHD. However, it is more the way I do not remember that is making me question this. Generally, I experience what one may refer to as 'greyout amnesia' perhaps(?) I have a general idea of what happened to this body, but I can not remember it in any specific detail; moreso, it is as if I am given a list of facts that happened and a general sense of being there. I could tell you what I did in order, but I do not physically remember it (or-- I do remember it, but it feels like I was not there). That being said, it is like that with a lot of my memories unless I was directly just doing it, so it can be hard to say for sure whether this would indicate anything of relevance.
I do, however constantly experience dissociation in both depersonalization and derealization. I will very frequently find myself feeling as if I am not in my own body. It is a common occurrence to peer at myself in the mirror and find that I do not recognize myself. It is the same body and same face that I have always had, and I do recognize this fact, but it does not feel like it is mine. I have the same feeling with looking at photos of myself. However, it is important to note that I do not always feel this way. There have been times where I was comfortable and familiar with my face and body, but lately it has not been that way for months. For derealization, it feels like I am not actually real or living in this world. This happens to me a lot and it is a general sense of 'there's no way I'm real' even if I know technically I should be. After I am done with these dissociative episodes, the memories do not appear to me as an episode, but as they were. As if I actually was not myself and/or real for those moments.
Another thing that I experience in regards to not feeling like this is my body is what I have been referring to as 'age dysphoria'. It is exactly what it sounds like; I have phases where I feel very much so like a child (in particular-- the child I used to be) perhaps around age ten. During these periods I will look in the mirror and feel completely dysphoric about appearing so old. This also manifests itself in feeling like my body is too big or that my appearance is much older than it is supposed to be. I will see my hairy legs and think "how are they so hairy... this feels wrong... I'm not supposed to be this old", or I will lay in my bed and be uncomfortable about how much space I occupy. I experienced this just last night, yet I can not recall if I have felt this before because of my memory.
When it comes to possible alters this part is very confusing to me, because everything I experience is not exactly clear. What I do know, is that I have at least two particular versions of myself that I tend to switch between at random intervals. These personality changes usually cooccur with finding a new hyperfixation, and so I always assumed my personality heavily depended on those. Almost everything about me tends to change depending on the type of hyperfixation I have (gender, sexuality, feelings about myself). Right now, my hyperfixation is a children's cartoon and I have been feeling very child-like. I commonly will talk in language too young for my age and broken sentences, even if I technically know how to say it correctly. On the flip side, my last hyperfixation was a media for more mature audiences due to the violence in it. During this time I was definitely feeling more adult-like. This also manifests in periods of complete asexuality and being uncomfortable with adult topics while I am hyperfixated on something child-like.
In addition to these feelings, my thoughts do talk to themselves on occasion. I am confused mostly because it is not exactly a separate voice, but instead the same voice of consciousness. However, I will say there is the capability of two voices at once. Usually I can sing a song in my head and still have a consciousness stream going as normal. Once again, this was presumed to be ADHD. But usually, it is all my same inner voice (more commonly known as thoughts) that think against one another.
For example, I may think "why did you do that?" and then I would answer "I don't know." OR, sometimes I get responses in what may be considered 'the back of my mind'? These are usually very short responses and do not say much if anything. I may say "should I do ___?" and then I will sometimes hear a small "yes" or "no." Usually I would refer to this as intuition, or, when I was younger and religious, I would sometimes think of it as God's voice. Whatever it is, it is clear that I am not deciding these thoughts. They make themselves.
[THIS IS THE TRAUMA PART. DO NOT READ IF IT MAY BE TRIGGERING]
The biggest confusion I have had is with the prerequisite of trauma for the disorder. I know I did not have an easy childhood, but to me it does not seem 'bad enough' to cause OSDD (?). A lot of people consider me very traumatized, but I seem to not care too much about what has happened to me. That being said, I know a lot of people with these types of disorders do not remember a lot of their childhood due to the amnesia, so what do I know.
What I do know, however, is that I never really had a sense of security as a kid. Until my parent's divorced (around age seven) they were constantly fighting. My father has always been a yeller, and will find every excuse to use his loud and booming voice against you. I know I was spanked very hard up until age thirteen. When my father got angry, it was instant terror. He would scream, and throw stuff, and grab you very hard. If you tried to run to your bedroom and lock him out, he would get even angrier. Sometimes he would be so mad that he would rip doors off their hinges and scream at you so loud that you'd instantly zone-out. If my older brother or I made him angry we would immediately be bent over his knee and smacked extremely hard.
My living conditions were always dirty, and we constantly moved around the city at least once every two years. I did not have many (if any) friends because I was autistic and people thought I was weird. These facts were a constant throughout my entire childhood.
After my parent's divorce, I lived with my mother until age fifteen. She also yelled, but more out of stress rather than anger. My mother was very disabled (living with undiagnosed Autism, ADHD, CPTSD, OCD, and Bipolar Disorder as well as diagnosed fibromyalgia) and so she did not do much but sit around. She did not have a job and we lived off of child support alone. Food insecurity was pretty prevalent. We could not afford many things that may be considered valuable or sometimes necessary to a child's development. In addition to this, since my mother was so incapable of parenting, I had to step up as the (previously) eldest daughter. I had been parenting my youngest siblings from a very young age. My older brother stayed away from everyone and was constantly locked in his room in the basement. Mostly, the kids were my responsibility if my mom could not do anything (which was frequent).
Ever since I was very young I was completely emotionally neglected. I actually can not recall being told 'I love you' very much at all. I was constantly considered a bother and an inconvenience and spent a lot of time alone as a result. Every time I am rejected I feel as if I am ten years old again and my parents are telling me to shut up for being so annoying. On the upside, I was more than content to spend time with myself as my mind is always entertaining on its own. However, it did feel like I was there for everyone and nobody was there for me.
My mother was also not a very mentally well person in general. She would constantly emotionally manipulate us and tell us things nobody should ever tell their kids. She would go into detail about her traumatic childhood abuse and tell us kids that she would end her life if she did not have us to take care of (even going as far as to describe how she would do it in graphic detail).
I worked a job as young as possible and hardly ever attended school due to being depressed since I was about twelve. I missed a very substantial portion of my middleschool and highschool education.
When I was fifteen, my mother was arrested for distribution of child pornography. She had kept secret cameras in our bedrooms and bathrooms to send footage to her pedophile boyfriend who lived in a different country. The brunt of the physical sexual abuse was committed on my younger sister who was nine at the time, and, to my knowledge, I was never physically touched by her; however, she did very much groom me with topics I should not have been familiar with at such an age. I remember her constantly telling me to 'go masturbate' (worded as "touch yourself") everytime I was stressed out because it would 'help'. Knowing what I know now, it is clear she just wanted me on camera for her partner.
That aside, when my mother was arrested I moved back in with my father. It was not easy. My father does not believe in mental illness very much, and he was always quick to gaslight me on my emotions. He was still prone to incredible anger as well. Mostly, though, now directed at my younger brother (the new scapegoat now that I was too old to scare into submission). He is very alike me as a child (he has autism and ADHD) and I would constantly get flashbacks to things he said to me as a kid everytime he yelled at my brother.
Needless to say, there was constant yelling in the house. I would have to cover my ears and pretend I did not hear it because I was so petrified due to experiencing the same things very young. Despite that, I was still in charge of emotionally raising my siblings at this house because my father has always been very distant emotionally. I was always the first person to rush in after my siblings got yelled at and comfort them. Yet still, I never had anybody to care for me.
When I turned eighteen, I moved out to university and I thrived very much. However, I did get dependent on weed for a good two years.
I had to drop out due to being completely incapable of functioning as an adult, and now live with my father currently. I will say, he is not as bad as he used to be due to a visit from Child Protective Services.
That is all the relevant information I can think of for my childhood. If any of that was enough to cause some sort of disorder, then perhaps my findings may have some value.
[END OF TRAUMA]
This is all the information I can link to maybe having an alter-based disorder. That being said, I only know so much. This is why I have made this post; it is my hope that something I said today can be explained.
I would like to hear the opinions of people who do experience OSDD and what they make of this. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have for me.
Thank you for your help.

2023.06.04 19:33 Ok_Bluebird_1032 The Role of Translation in the Intellectual Enlightenment of Europe: A Case Study of Toledo and Burgos in the 12th and 13th Centuries

Abstract:
This scholarly article explores the pivotal role played by translation in fostering the intellectual enlightenment of Europe during the 12th and 13th centuries, with a specific focus on the cities of Toledo and Burgos in Spain. During this period, a remarkable exchange of knowledge took place between different cultures, as scholars and translators engaged in the task of translating Arabic and Greek works into Latin. These translations became instrumental in broadening the horizons of European scholars, exposing them to new ideas, disciplines, and cultures. By examining the historical context, the significance of translation centers like Toledo and Burgos, and the impact of translated works, this article demonstrates how the translation movement of the time greatly contributed to the educational and intellectual development of Europe.
1. Introduction
1.1 Background and Historical Context
The 12th and 13th centuries marked a period of significant intellectual growth and cultural exchange in Europe. During this time, translation played a crucial role in facilitating the transmission of knowledge from Arabic and Greek sources to Latin, the lingua franca of medieval Europe. The cities of Toledo and Burgos in Spain emerged as prominent translation centers, attracting scholars and translators from different cultural backgrounds. This article aims to explore the impact of translation in these cities and its contribution to the educational enlightenment of Europe.

1.2 Objectives and Research Questions
The primary objective of this article is to analyze how translation in Toledo and Burgos during the 12th and 13th centuries helped Europe educate itself. The research questions guiding this study include:

  1. What was the significance of Toledo and Burgos as translation centers during this period?
  2. Who were the translators and scholars involved in the translation movement?
  3. How did the translation of Arabic and Greek works into Latin expand the intellectual horizons of European scholars?
  4. What were the specific impacts of translated works on European education and intellectual development?
  5. What were the challenges and criticisms faced by the translation movement during this time?

2. The Translation Movement in Toledo and Burgos

2.1 Importance of Toledo and Burgos as Translation Centers
Toledo and Burgos held strategic positions as cultural and linguistic crossroads, where Christian, Muslim, and Jewish scholars coexisted and engaged in fruitful intellectual exchanges. Toledo, in particular, was renowned for its rich multicultural heritage and its libraries filled with Arabic and Greek manuscripts. The presence of skilled translators and the patronage of enlightened rulers attracted scholars from across Europe.

2.2 Translators and Scholars of the Time
The translation movement in Toledo and Burgos was fueled by a dedicated group of scholars and translators who possessed a deep understanding of Arabic and Greek languages and cultures. Prominent figures such as Gerard of Cremona, Michael Scot, and James of Venice, among others, played instrumental roles in translating a wide range of texts in various disciplines, including philosophy, science, medicine, and mathematics.

2.3 Multicultural Exchange and Collaboration
Translation in Toledo and Burgos was a collaborative effort that transcended religious and cultural boundaries. Muslim, Christian, and Jewish scholars worked together, sharing their expertise and cultural knowledge. This multicultural exchange not only facilitated the translation process but also fostered a climate of intellectual curiosity and open-mindedness, enabling scholars to broaden their perspectives and challenge prevailing notions.

3. Translation and the Enlightenment of Europe

3.1 Expansion of Knowledge and Intellectual Horizons
The translation movement in Toledo and Burgos acted as a gateway to vast intellectual treasures previously inaccessible to European scholars. The translation of Arabic and Greek works introduced Europe to new fields of study, including astronomy, philosophy, alchemy, medicine, and mathematics. These translated texts expanded the intellectual horizons of European scholars, challenging existing beliefs and paving the way for new avenues of inquiry.

3.2 Dissemination of Greek and Arabic Scholarship
Greek philosophy and scientific knowledge were rediscovered through Arabic translations, which had preserved and expanded upon the works of ancient Greek scholars. European scholars, exposed to these translated works, gained insights into the philosophies of Plato and Aristotle, as well as scientific theories from Euclid, Ptolemy, and Archimedes. This dissemination of Greek and Arabic scholarship laid the foundation for the European Renaissance.

3.3 Influence on European Intellectual Tradition
The translated works from Toledo and Burgos had a profound impact on European intellectual tradition. The assimilation of Arabic and Greek knowledge led to the development of new schools of thought, the refinement of scientific methodologies, and the emergence of humanism. European scholars built upon the ideas found in these translations, contributing to

the cultural, scientific, and philosophical advancements of the Renaissance and beyond.

4. Impact of Translated Works

4.1 Scientific and Philosophical Contributions
The translated works from Toledo and Burgos significantly contributed to advancements in science and philosophy in Europe. The availability of Arabic texts on mathematics, astronomy, and medicine enhanced European understanding and spurred scientific discoveries. Philosophical treatises from ancient Greece fueled intellectual debates and influenced the development of scholasticism and natural philosophy.

4.2 Cultural and Linguistic Influences
Translation not only facilitated the transfer of knowledge but also had a profound impact on the cultural and linguistic landscape of Europe. The introduction of new words, concepts, and terminologies enriched the Latin language and influenced the vernacular languages of various regions. The cross-pollination of cultures fostered a spirit of cultural diversity and appreciation for different traditions.

4.3 Educational Advancements
The translated works became essential educational resources, allowing European scholars to access a wider range of knowledge. Monastic schools, universities, and centers of learning incorporated these translated texts into their curricula, transforming European education and laying the groundwork for the humanistic approach to learning that characterized the Renaissance.

5. Criticisms and Challenges Faced

5.1 Linguistic Difficulties and Cultural Bias
Translation during this period faced challenges due to linguistic complexities and cultural biases. Translators had to navigate the nuances of different languages and cultures, often encountering difficulties in conveying accurate meanings. Cultural biases occasionally influenced the translation process, leading to misinterpretations or alterations of the original texts.

5.2 Preservation and Authenticity of Translations
The preservation and authenticity of translations were also a matter of concern. Some translations may have been incomplete or modified over time, potentially distorting the original intentions of the authors. Scholars and translators had to navigate these challenges and strive for faithful and accurate renditions.

5.3 Controversies and Debates Surrounding Translated Works
The translated works occasionally sparked controversies and debates within European intellectual circles. Some theologians and philosophers questioned the compatibility of certain Greek and Arabic ideas with Christian theology. These debates fueled intellectual discourse, stimulating critical thinking and contributing to the evolution of European thought.

6. Conclusion

6.1 Summary of Findings
The translation movement in Toledo and Burgos during the 12th and 13th centuries played a crucial role in Europe's intellectual enlightenment. Through the translation of Arabic and Greek works into Latin, European scholars gained access to a vast corpus of knowledge, expanding their intellectual horizons and challenging established beliefs. The multicultural exchange and collaboration among scholars from different backgrounds fostered an environment of intellectual curiosity and open-mindedness.

6.2 Significance of Translation for European Education and Enlightenment
Translation acted as a catalyst for educational and intellectual development in Europe. The translated works influenced scientific advancements, philosophical debates, and cultural transformation. The integration of Arabic and Greek knowledge into European education contributed to the Renaissance and the subsequent flourishing of European intellectual tradition.

6.3 Future Implications and Research Opportunities
Further research is needed to explore the specific impacts of translated works in different disciplines and regions of Europe. Comparative studies could shed light on the extent to which translation influenced educational systems, the reception of translated texts, and the evolution of specific intellectual traditions. Additionally, investigating the role of individual translators and their methodologies could provide valuable insights into the translation practices of the time.

The study of translation in Toledo and Burgos during the 12th and 13th centuries offers a compelling narrative of cultural exchange, intellectual growth, and the power of knowledge dissemination. By understanding the transformative role of translation during this period, we gain a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of cultures and the lasting impact of cross-cultural collaborations on European intellectual heritage.

2023.06.04 19:29 BeginningStock590 Did dating a pwBPD help with your codependency?

I've noticed a pretty common theme with many BPD relationships on here, and that is the cursed BPD + CoDep alliance from hell
Has anyone here noticed any improvement to their codependency since discard?
I've noticed a marked decrease in my desire to listen or directly involve myself in another adult's personal issues.
I don't see that as my 'job' any more, and while it's unusual (and perhaps in need of some calibration) it does feel healthier.
I no longer want approval or bonding via my ability to assist them. I want to be liked based solely on whether or not I'm enough as I am. Which is what I've always wanted.
For context, I did 6 months of intensive therapy (2 times per week) last year to help with my attachment and codependency issues and even that couldn't bring this out in me

2023.06.04 19:26 Asleepfarm420 Resources for Relationship Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence

What is relationship abuse?
Relationship abuse is a pattern of abusive and coercive behaviors used to maintain power and control over a former or current intimate partner. Abuse can be emotional, financial, sexual or physical and can include threats, isolation, and intimidation. Abuse tends to escalate over time. When someone uses abuse and violence against a partner, it is always part of a larger pattern of control.
Warning signs of abuse:

Types of abuse:
Physical abuse is any intentional, unwanted contact with you or something close to your body, or any behavior that causes or has the intention of causing you injury, disability, or death.
Emotional abuse & verbal abuse includes non-physical behaviors such as threats, insults, constant monitoring or “checking in,” excessive texting, humiliation, intimidation, isolation, or stalking.
Sexual abuse refers to any behavior that pressures or coerces someone to do something sexually that they don’t want to do. It can also refer to behavior that impacts a person’s ability to control their sexual activity or the circumstances in which sexual activity takes place, including oral sex, rape, or controlling reproductive methods and choices.
Financial abuse often operates in more subtle ways than other forms of abuse, but it can be just as harmful to those who experience it.
Modern conditions of stark economic inequality mean that financial security is directly tied to our health and wellbeing. No one has the right to use money or how you choose to spend it to control your actions or decisions, and no one should control your ability to work.
Digital dating abuse is the use of technologies like texting and social media to bully, harass, stalk, or intimidate a partner. This behavior is often a form of verbal or emotional abuse, conducted online.
Stalking occurs when someone watches, follows, or harasses you repeatedly, making you feel afraid or unsafe.
---
Avoid victim blaming
Why is it dangerous?
Victim-blaming attitudes marginalize the victim/survivor and make it harder to come forward and report the abuse. If the victim/survivor knows that you or society blames survivors for abuse, they will not feel safe or comfortable coming forward and talking to you.
Victim-blaming attitudes also reinforce the manipulative tactics that abusers use to control their partner; abusers tell survivors that it is their fault this is happening. Committing violence is always the choice of the person who is abusing. It is NOT the victim/survivor’s fault or responsibility to fix the violence that an abuser is committing against them. By engaging in victim-blaming attitudes, society allows abusive people to perpetrate relationship abuse or sexual assault while avoiding accountability for those actions.
Victim-blaming attitudes prevent society from acknowledging and changing toxic masculinity and rape culture.
Where does it come from?
In order to stop victim-blaming, it is helpful to understand why it occurs in the first place. One reason that people blame a victim/survivor is to distance themselves from an unpleasant occurrence. This gives a false sense that this could not happen to them. By labeling or accusing the victim/survivor, others can see the victim/survivor as different from themselves. People use the Just World theory, Invulnerability theory, and Assumptive World theory in an attempt to feel like they have control over situations where they do not have control. People reassure themselves by thinking, “Because I am not like the victim/survivor, because I do not do XYZ, this would never happen to me.” We need to help people understand that a survivor’s actions do not contribute to a perpetrator’s (those that choose to harm decision to commit relationship abuse and sexual violence. It is our responsibility as members of society to support survivors and hold abusers accountable.)
What does victim blaming look like?
Common Victim Blaming Statements:
Example of Victim-Blaming Attitude:
Reality: This statement assumes that the victim is equally to blame for the abuse, when in reality, abuse is a conscious choice made by the abuser. Abusers have a choice in how they react to their partner’s actions. Options besides abuse include: walking away, talking in the moment, respectfully explaining why an action is frustrating, breaking up, etc. Additionally, abuse is not about individual actions that incite the abuser to hurt the victim/survivor, but rather about the abuser’s feelings of entitlement to do whatever the abuser wants to their partner. When friends and family remain neutral about the abuse and say that both people need to change, they are taking away responsibility from the perpetrator (those that choose to harm, thereby colluding with/supporting the abusive partner and making it less likely that the survivor will seek support.)
Victim Blaming in Language:One of the biggest sources of victim blaming is the way we talk about it. Language surrounding abuse and sexual assault immediately puts our attention on the victim instead of the perpetrator. This is a demonstration developed by Julia Penelope and frequently used by Jackson Katz to show how language can be victim blaming:
As you can see, the focus has shifted entirely to Mary instead of John, encouraging the audience to focus on the survivor’s actions instead of the perpetrator’s actions. The solutions regarding prevention become focused on what Mary can do differently, not on what John can do differently, and not on how society creates a culture that supports John’s behavior.
What can I do about it?
Remember if you are aware of abusive behavior and do not speak out against it, your silence communicates implicitly that you see nothing unacceptable taking place.\)

2023.06.04 19:08 roses4you # WHAT SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND LITERATURE CAN TELL US ABOUT PE?

I’m not a native english speaker so sorry in advance if this post contains any grammatical errors. I’m neither a doctoresearcher or a science guy so I’ll try to alway provide some reference but be aware that the information that follows may be misinterpreted or simply not correct.
The aim of this post is to understand what is the consensus and the consolidated evidence on PE, and what information we should expect from a clinician/doctor (so you probably won’t find any new therapy you have never heard of). I’m curious and wanted to know a little bit more about this topic since I think there is a lot of misinformation and common beliefs that are rooted but are not backed up by any scientific evidence and even doctors/clinician sometimes are not educated enough on the topic to provide any actual help.Don’t expect anything super well summarised, this is going to be more of a copy and paste work.
Following the Hierarchy of Evidence in medical research meta-analysis, systematic reviews and practice guidelines provide the highest quality of evidence, I focused on the guidelines because I think that are more practical and have more reach to doctors/clinician that are not expert in the field. I found the ISSM’s (International Society of Sexual Medicine) guidelines to be the most complete guidelines on the topic. The International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) is a medical society devoted to the study of the medicine of human sexuality. It publishes two journals, The Journal of Sexual Medicine (where the guidelines were published, IF for 2022-2023 is 3.9), and the open-access Sexual Medicine Reviews. The last update of the guidelines I found is from 2013/2014, American Urology Association has its own guidelines updated in 2020, they are not specifically focused on just PE but on Disorders of Ejaculation, mainly PE and DE (Delayed Ejaculation). The AUA’s guidelines focus mainly on the management of the patient and the pharmacotherapy and don’t give many indications about the main theories on PE’s causes.

Definition from ISSM

The panel proposed a unified definition of LPE (Long Term PE) and APE (Acquired PE):
It “is a male sexual dysfunction characterized by:
  • ejaculation that always or nearly always occurs prior to or within about 1 minute of vaginal penetration from the first sexual experience (LPE), OR a clinically significant reduction in latency time, often to about 3 minutes or less (acquired premature ejaculation);
  • the inability to delay ejaculation on all or nearly all vaginal penetrations; and
  • negative personal consequences, such as distress, bother, frustration, and/or the avoidance of sexual intimacy.”
It also identify additional subtypes: VPE (Variable PE) that occurs irregularly and inconsistently and SPE (Subjective PE) a subjective perception of PE but with the IELT in the “normal range” (so a IELT >= 3 mins, the median IELTs from 2 studies is 5.4 minutes and 6 minutes respectively).
The estimated prevalence of APE and LPE is around 5%, the prevalence of VPE and SPE is higher but these definitions are relatively new so there isn’t a lot of data.

Etiology (form ISSM’s guidelines)

I start by saying that of all the biological factors that have been proposed to explain PE, none has been confirmed in large scale studies, nonetheless some studies are really interesting.
Hypersensitivity of the Glans -> in a small study was found that patient with PE have hypersensitivity and hyperexcitability of the glans via performing somatosensory evoked potentials (brain responses to sensory stimuli). A similar study not cited in ISSM’s Guidelines is Zhang 2009 that found in a small cohort that patients with PE have on average a higher number of dorsal penile nerve branches. Disturbances in central serotonergic neurotransmission -> We know that Serotonin is the main neurotransmitter involved in the control of ejaculation, but in humans specific subtypes of 5-HT (serotonin) receptors involved in PE have not yet been identified. SSRIs work but SSRIs treatment activates many different postsynaptic subtype receptors so we don’t know specifically how it works. In the spinal cord, specific neurons have been found to be essential to ejaculatory reflex in rats and there is also preliminary evidence that such a neural organisation also exists in humans. Genetics of PE -> Some studies have investigated gene polymorphism of receptors of serotonin and oxytocin. Results of the studies are mixed, men with some genetic variants may be predisposed to develop PE but more studies are needed. Hormones imbalances -> Hyperthyroidism has no role in LPE and has been found to be associated with APW in extremely few patients. Recent studies on large population indicate that the endocrine system is involved in the control of ejaculatory function: prolactin in the lowest quartile levels is associated with APE and anxiety symptoms and higher testosterone levels aìcorrelate with PE, while lower androgenization is related to delayed ejaculation. Anyway the guidelines state that both low PRL and relatively high testosterone levels cannot be considered etiologies of PE. Prostatitis -> Prostatic inflammation and chronic bacterial prostatitis have been reported as common findings in men with APE. For the guidelines though there is insufficient evidence to support routine screening of men with PE for this condition. Erectile dysfunction -> For the guidelines ED is unlikely as a comorbidity or etiological factor for LPE, there is data to support that APE is associated with PE. Psychological factors -> there has been limited research on causality; most studies can only report association. It is plausible that psychological factors may lead to PE or vice versa, it is likely that for many men the relationship is reciprocal with either PE or the other factor causing exacerbation of the other.

Psychological/Behavioral interventions

There is not much to say on this topic, well designed studies on behavioural interventions are scarce, apart from the squeeze/start-stop technique other interventions are correct breathing and relaxation of the muscles to control excitement (discussed a lot in this community).

Pharmacological Treatment (from ISSM guidelines)

Dapoxetine: it is a rapid acting and short half-life SSRI with a pharmacokinetic profile supporting a role as an on demand treatment for PE. In randomised controlled trials, dapoxetine 30mg or 60mg taken 1-2 hours before intercourse is more effective than placebo from the first dose resulting in a 2.5 and 3.0 fold increase in IELT. Treatment-related side effects were uncommon, dose dependent and included nausea, diarrhoea, headache and dizziness: they were responsible for study discontinuation in 4% (30mg) and 10% (60mg) of subjects.
Off-Label SSRIs and TCAs: Daily treatment with off-label paroxetine 10-40 mg, clomipramine 12.5-50 mg, sertraline 50-200 mg, fluoxetine 20.40 mg and citalopram 20.40 mg is usually effective in delaying ejaculation. A meta-analysis of published data suggests that paroxetine exerts the strongest ejaculation delay, increasing IELT approximately 8.8-fold over baseline. SSRIs should be avoided in men with a history of bipolar depression.
Topical Local Anesthetics: lidocaine and/or prilocaine as a cream, gel, or spray is well established and is moderately effective in delaying ejaculation, data suggest that diminishing the glans sensitivity may inhibit the spinal reflex that are responsible for ejaculation. PSD502 (Fortacin in Europe) , a lidocaine-prilocaine spray applied 5 minutes before intercourse is associated with a 6.3-fold increase in IELT. There were minimal reports of penile hypoanesthesia and transfer to the partner due to the unique formulation of the compound.
PDE5i: SIldenafil, Tadalafil, Vardenafil, are effective treatments for ED, there is some evidence to support the efficacy and safety of off-label on demand or daily dosing of PDE5i in the treatment of LPE in men with normal erectile function but further evidence based research is encouraged to understand conflicting data.

Other pharmacological treatments

Tramadol: Tramadol has been investigated as a potential off.label therapy for PE, with several studies demonstrating efficacy, the mechanism of action is not completely understood. It may be considered when other therapies have failed because of the risk of addiction and side effects.
Oxytocin: Intraventricular administration of oxytocin antagonist inhibits sexual behaviour in animal studies, however in one human study, an oxytocin antagonist failed to clinically or statistically improve IELT, further human studies are necessary.
Alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonists: not mentioned in ISSM’s guidelines but in the AUA’s. There are not good quality studies on these drugs, Silodosin seems the most effective one. From AUA

Other treatments

Cryoablation and Neuromodulation of the Dorsal Penile Nerve: invasive and irreversible procedure, which is associated with an increase in the IELT. However, safety of this treatment modality needs to be determined before this procedure can be recommended for treating patients.
Intracavernosal Injection for PE: There is limited evidence regarding the efficacy of intracavernosal vasoactive drug injection for the treatment of PE.
Injections with hyaluronic acid in the glans: a study cited by AUA found a 2.6 fold increase vs 1.1 placebo in ELT, AUA recommends that surgical intervention for PE only to be considered in the context of ethical board approved trial for patients who have failed or cannot tolerate alternative management strategies for PE.

Preclinical studies for PE

Several agents have been studied in animal models for treating PE: a potent SSRI (DA-8031) significantly inhibited ejaculation in rat models. There are some human studies after 2013 (so after the publication of the guidelines) but I can’t understand in which phase the drug is and if the possible therapy with this SSRI is on-demand or not and the drug is not mentioned in AUA’s guidelines and I don’t understand why.
Modafinil, used in the treatment of narcolepsy, produced significant delay in ejaculation in rat models. Can’t find a lot of studies after 2013, in the AUA’s guidelines form 2020 it’s reported that in an uncontrolled pilot study of on-demand modafinil it’s reported a modest but significant two-fold increase in IELT.
Injection of botulinum toxin in the bulbospongiosus muscle, from AUA’s guidelines: the toxin that blocks neural transmission when injected into the muscle. But studies for PE were discontinued due to lack of efficacy in interim analysis.
Oxytocin antagonists (from AUA’s guidelines): Cligosoban is a oxytocin receptor antagonist that in a RCT double blind trial showed statistically significant effect of LPE men (3.6 fold increase in ELT vs 1.8 for placebo).
Further study and potentially development of agents with different distribution is required to determine if these therapies will have a role in PE management in the future.

2023.06.04 19:07 19fourty4 Helping transition from smite to league(support)

hello, apologies for english--
as tital say, i am newly transition from smite to league (level 27ish now) and am support main both games. I feel as if am slowly getting hang of it and i know some issue are just game difference, but the role is also very different and am having some issue know when/how i should be do stuff.(i will put short summary of main smite support points at end if helps). because I am fairly high rank in smite i understand basics concepts like wards, farm etc but smite thinking might be hurting me more than help at this stage.
basically, i am unsure when i should be rotate out of lane(or if i am supposed to come back?), priority for wards, if i should be engage or peel- the variety between supports with enchanters and thing might be cause of this point, and just in general what role is later in game as seems very different from smite. I have been duo q with more experience friend so have been getting place in higher lobbies, however she does no play support so cannot answer specific question. I have mostly been play ammumu, rell, leona, milio and senna- kind of bored of ammumu and interested in maybe add karma to my roster eventually. my main supp god pool in smite is athena, bacchus, maui(ik similar to thresh but did not like thresh much, maybe will to retry soon), atlas, aphrodite, hel if any suggestions from those.

Sorry for long post, really looking for any tip in general and appreciate help!

***will put short summary of main support point in smite for people who do not play if it will help direct any advice***

start game with adc, try to get ahead in lane, protect adc from early gank. usually try to stay out until can afford first item and back(usually about same time as getting ult) at which point leave adc alone to solo farm. Mid become new "home" and will share farm with mid, however still expect to rotate to adc and solo lane when needed as well as help jg protect invade and if possible assist them with own invade. responsible for ward control around objective and high traffic path(ward are a lot more even on team and limited in smite).
As mid game start to come to close and turn into late, support still expect to maintain vision control over objective however the role shifts into almost entire peel focus for mid and adc. you engage when its super safe but much less common later. additon, all support are built almost entirely tank. Usually 1-2 dmg item but all supp(even "enchanter" type which doesnt really exist" are expect to be tanky and eat ults/autos for carries. this last point has been cause of me die a lot but have adjust a lot when i am pick senna/milio.

2023.06.04 19:02 Clean_Tomorrow5025 HELP!!!!

hellou, well let’s give you a little bit of context.
So basically I had a best friend name Daniela, she was the best of everything. We did everything together and had many friends around us in common. We were three friends that did everything together, me Daniela and emilia. Emilia left the country and the things between me and Daniela started to complicate. First she started to have new friends that I present to her and she started taking shit about me. Then, she started talking with the guy I was in a relationship with. And, what ended everything was that she kissed him. She wrote a speech to me telling me she was sorry and we needed to talk in person, we never talked because we did not organize. Since that it has happened almost 5 months ago. I don’t miss her anymore or anything, but when I see her at parties she is always being so rude and mean. I don’t understand why she has this attitude if she was the one who did wrong. I think what makes her mad is that our friends in common went to my side and not hers that’s why she hates me. I think she thinks that I put those people in my side, but I did not. Since her sister is in the same school as me, her graduation is next Friday. I don’t know if I should go while we are not talking and basically hate each other, her sister and her friends hate me too, and I am afraid what could happened because it’s their sisters and friends graduation and I don’t know if it’s right for me to go. Second, I wanted to know if I should write to her telling that we should talk, or just don’t do anything. I think her love for me turned into jealousy and that’s why she was so mean to me, because she was jealous. It’s been 5 months, I don’t want to be in a bad situation with someone, should I write to her, or should I’ll wait.

Memory transcript subject: Trish, Venlil civilian
Date [Standardized Human Time]: February 30th, 2177
Location: Lower sprawl of City 23, Venlil Prime
The blankets haphazardly twisted around Trish felt like steel chains. The Terran grandfather clock on the wall dutifully marked each second of her prison sentence. Her eyes hurt from exhaustion, and it was all she could do to keep herself from lashing her tail hard enough to fracture it in frustration.
Several long, pointless hours had come and gone as she sat, self-immobilized with blankets in an attempt to sleep. But sleep did not come. There was a sick feeling of apprehension balled up in her stomach, a cold weight in her soul which silently sentenced her to sleeplessness.
Her instinct, that feeling of a frigid vice around her waist, could usually be counted on as a guiding star that commanded her to act decisively. Right now, it was commanding her to stay awake and alert even as the hours dragged by. Out of respect for its “wishes”, she had abstained from taking any sleep-inducing medication, but her meager patience was quickly waning. Simply sitting there in silence was nothing short of torturous.
The thought of how exactly they’d feed the Arxur still hung over her head like a guillotine, the evening’s furious debate having brought them little closer to a solution. Acquiring any organ-cloning tech would be a nightmare, not to mention the steep cost of life incurred from stealing rare medical equipment. There wasn’t exactly an abundance of wildlife for it to hunt. Maybe some DIY-biomedical tampering could expand its diet, but accidentally condemning it to an agonizing death was far more likely.
Perhaps their fixer had some advice to share. There were only a couple ways she could’ve gotten her hands on a fertilized Arxur egg, and her constant insistence on keeping hidden in every way pointed towards one obvious possibility. How exactly an Arxur had survived the fall of Wriss and stayed clear of the Federation’s all-seeing eye for so long, Trish couldn’t even begin to guess. But if it was possible for her, it would be possible for them, and she might have useful advice for keeping the hatchling fed that she garnered from personal experience.
That said, she couldn’t be blunt in her questioning. If their encryption was broken, they were most likely dead either way, but better to be cautious anyway. Most likely, this abundance of caution was how someone actively fleeing the Federation had to operate in all aspects of life.
Something in Trish’s chest protested. To hell with caution. She wanted to see their reptilian sponsor face-to-face, even digitally. Look her in the eye. If she was right, at least; if this was truly her own offspring she was entrusting them with. It would be hell to set up, and a completely pointless risk for both of them, but some things couldn’t be justified with—
A sudden crack of thunder tore through her thoughts, a rough noise which echoed from the bar above. She further entombed herself in blankets for comfort, letting the warm weight…
Not thunder. A gunshot. Someone had fired a gun upstairs.
Trish was out of bed and shaking someone else awake before her thoughts could catch up and form a plan of action. With her mind still reeling, instinct had taken hold, dragging her by the pit of her stomach to act. It issued clear, firm commands which she followed unthinkingly while her own conscious mind couldn’t keep pace.
Act quickly. Get everyone awake, and get them to the fire escape at the end of the hallway. It didn’t much matter if their assailants found the entrance to the Den or not; flames would start pouring down the stairs any second. They wouldn’t have time to gather belongings. Except her pad; if they found her pad, there’d be no escaping them even if they got away. Grab it. The fire would cleanse the rest of their tracks well enough to not be worth spending extra time.
Tressa was already up and alert, pistol drawn and taking aim at the door while crouched behind a couch in the living room as cover. Besides him sat the backpack, with the egg and incubator still inside. James stumbled out of his bedroom, being dragged out by a jet-black Venlil two thirds his size with such force that Trish was slightly worried she might hurt something in his arm.
When he saw the bag, he tore himself from her grasp and ran to the living room. After slinging the backpack over his shoulder, he rushed back to the hallway with Tressa in tow. Sasha was slipping her flame jacket over loose sleeping clothing, still blinking sleep out of her eyes. She didn’t see Burai anywhere; apparently, he’d slept straight through the noise. Trish was halfway to his room when she remembered that he hadn’t gone to sleep at all. He was upstairs, cleaning the bar.

He was upstairs, where the gunshot had echoed from.
Trish’s mind screamed in protest, but her body kept moving down the hall toward the fire escape. They were out of time. They needed to run. She tore open the fire escape hatch with force, praying that their assailants didn’t have the neighboring alley locked down too. The ladder swung down, missing her snout by a hair. Her limbs moved with a frantic, manic power, dragging her to the surface and forcing her down the street. Somewhere in the back of her head, she felt a pang of thankfulness that she didn’t feel fire on her back as she ran.

They stopped running by the time Trish was out of breath. She’d never been too fit even for a Venlil, and her endurance was meaningless compared to their human companions. However, in the dense decaying maze of the sprawl, even a few city blocks was plenty to lose anyone chasing. They gathered in the relative privacy of a burned supermarket, breathing heavily through cloth masks to block out the ash that poured from the walls in unrestored buildings.
Nobody spoke a word. There was nothing to say.
In better times, Trish might’ve broken down into tears, but right now adrenaline forced her into a sharp focus. They were still being hunted. Their options were slim, and growing slimmer every second of inaction.
“Tressa, did you bring your pistol?”
The words came out as choked and barely audible beneath the suffocating cloth that protected her lungs, but it was enough to break the silence. The rest of them jolted out of their stupor, minds visibly refocusing to tackle the problem at hand.
“...Yeah, but it won’t be enough to fight them off. I heard multiple sets of boots up there. If these are exterminators, it’s probably a squad of five. I can’t take that many with just a handgun.”
“It doesn’t matter either way. Kill them, and they’ll just send more. We need to run.”
“And run where, exactly?” James coughed a few times and readjusted his mask before continuing. “There’s nowhere the Federation doesn’t have eyes. Nowhere on Venlil Prime, at least, and we’d have better luck standing our ground than trying to board a ship offworld.”
“...a ship?”
“Yeah, walking into a spaceport is just asking to be— Trish?”
“...there’s a ship… there’s a wrecked UN ship on the dark side of Venlil Prime. It’s not too far from here, but far enough that nobody would ever bother checking out there. I’ve been inside it a couple times. There’s still working lights.”
Tressa muttered to himself, considering their prospects. “Working lights… imagine I could get heat working too. It probably has enough water onboard to last until we can dig a well. I… I could maybe even clone meat if they had Zurulian medical tech. You think we’d be safe there?”
“I don’t think there’s anywhere else to go.”
“And you never thought to tell us about this before now?
“It never came up.”
James paced nervously, kicking up plumes of dust. It hung in the air for a brief moment, swirling dramatically in the cold light of a fluorescent lamp, before resettling as he leaned against the wall. “So you want to drag us to the dark side of Venlil Prime… Jesus, Trish. I thought there was a reason nobody bothered settling out there. Or at least a reason they didn’t scavenge those wrecks. Hell, even people like us avoid it.”
“There are settlements on the edge, and scavengers comb the darkness up to about a paw’s travel out. But no light means no farming, scarce power, and unyielding cold. Unless you just happened to find an abandoned ship with backup power still burning, it’s a death sentence. The Federation won’t look for us there.”
“...and you ’just happened’ to find one, huh?”
“A friend of mine— no, I’ll tell you about it later. We need to get moving now.”
Sasha sat up, brushing a layer of grime off her jacket. “We need to go back for Beast. No way we can make the journey out without her. Unless you think you can hotwire something, Tressa..?”
“Not a chance. Then again, our chances of retaking Beast seem pretty slim too. Do you have a plan for doing this, or is your ‘plan’ to throw me at them and hope I have more bullets than they have flamer fuel?”
“No. We’ll all go together, and try not to pick a fight we can’t win. Slip in, grab Beast, get out.”
“That’s not a plan, and you know it. That’s wishful thinking. If your best plan is ‘walk in and hope they don’t see us’, then we’re walking to our deaths.”
“If you have a better idea, let’s hear it. Until then, walk faster. The longer we’re gone, the more likely they’ll burn our escape to slag before we return.”
Tressa grumbled, but failed to make any coherent objection as he rose to his feet. He checked his pistol over, making sure ash hadn’t wormed its way into anything vital before slipping it back under his coat as the group stepped out into the street.
It was a common work claw, so the more ruined areas of the sprawl were near-empty. The only sign that people lived here in any capacity were the streetlights and a distant hum of life from more central streets and walkways. Not that their little entourage would draw much attention anyway; out here, ragtag herds of misfits were about as common as the burned-out buildings that permeated the land.
Their little ragtag herd of misfits wouldn’t hardly be missed if they went up in flames. Not by anyone important, that is; a few regulars at the Tipped Quill might be disappointed and some exterminator officer’s spreadsheet would need updating. The world would continue on without them. The world was going to continue on without them. Tressa was right; they were marching to their deaths.

2023.06.04 18:51 wisdomiswork Reformed Theology & Bewilderment

First I would like to compliment this group. I am not sure anyone here would agree, but compared to the Facebook Reformed groups this group seems more Christ like and overall friendly. If you are into Reformed pages in FB, they are often cringey & toxic and seem to look to post inflammatory things to upset even other Christians. I sincerely appreciate stark contract of this page.
Nevertheless, I am in an interesting spot. After reflection, I have come to realize that over my time as a Calvinist (about a decade), I have been suffering from a lot of cognitive dissonance. This has not been apparent to me until recently. It has become apparent that upon understanding and comprehending the implications of Calvinism that it is a struggle to even understand the concepts of good & evil in relation to God.
When I first became a Calvinist, it was actually a relief because then I could make sense of God's actions in the OT or even the doctrine of Eternal Torment. Any text that would make most readers jolt with horror made more sense with a God who has an elect people that He loves. In a more Arminian context, and with God knowing the end results, it's really difficult to affirm God wants everyone saved while simultaneously knowing most will end up in eternal torments. Calvinism provided that reprieve of squaring the texts about God's benevolence with the reality that God flooded the world killing infants, the conquest texts & OT slavery.
Throughout time, the tension has led me to look really consider these beliefs. From the justice of God in creating a place of eternal torture to the problem of evil in general. To drive the point home it's hard to imagine a God that will take the Jews from the ovens in Auschwitz straight to his oven then presumably to a lake of fire, forever. Part of me is starting to believe that the doctrine of eternal torment is the most insane idea ever conceived.
On that note, another beautiful teaching of Calvinism is God is not eternally frustrated in the end. I found this problem with Arminianism incoherent as well. Throughout the years though, the genuine conviction that God could & may actually save everyone has weighed on my heart. I am not here to promote apokotastasis but many have held to it & it seems to be a very coherent system of Christian theism.
When I try to find answers or objections to a lot of these issues (this is just scratching the surface), I find them wanting. Whether it's the Presuppositionalism strategy which I find terribly cringey and in many ways insulting & without charity to the Young Earth Creationism which from what I can tell is nothing more than propaganda at this point. Furthermore, many of these people tie the very gospel to an ad litteram interpretation of Genesis. Ironically, the intolerance of any other beliefs in this regard is actually leading a ton of people away from the faith. I just can't put my head in the sand any longer.
I hope this post hasn't offended or upset anyone. I am genuinely curious if anyone can relate to this? There are so many texts in the Bible that show God to be merciful, just & loving that seem to lose a lot of their meaning in this theological system.
Thank you for reading.

Sincerely
Ba-doh, ba-doh, ba-doh, ba-doh-ba
Sincerely, oh yes, sincerely
'Cause I love you so dearly, please say you'll be mine
-The Moonglows
Part I - The End
This isn’t happening. This isn’t happening. If I keep saying it maybe it will be true.
But it was happening. Tough times. Humpty Dumpty times. Out of gas in the desert with no bars times.
And, just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse than a Tijuana root canal; she walked in. Out of the sweltering Mexican heat, into the dim bar, she came; the only thing standing between me and the blinding light. I heard a couple of gunshots somewhere in the distance.
I still remember how the sun illuminated my 2pm rise and shine, shit-faced full of no caffeine afternoon after, hair of the dog; tequila shot and beer. Like I said, tough times on the Ponderosa, Hoss.
Every time I think of that moment, I stand transfixed in time. Unable to move, frozen in-place tighter than a suckered kid’s tongue to a Chicago lamppost in a February ice storm. Maggie had long ago won my heart’s devotion only to betray both me, and it, in ways still inconceivable to my sauce pan of a brain.
So, a couple of months ago, my life in post-apocalyptic ruin, I did what any red-blooded American would do; I flew across the border to CDMX to drown my sorrows in tequila and cheap living. And now, incomprehensibly, here she was; back, again like the September monsoon. Had the bitch air tagged me?
It seemed with Maggie my heart’s devotion was not enough. Everything she wanted and received soon became a dull knife; just ain’t cutting. Mags had to have it all, all the time. And I thought she had gotten all of me and more. Who’d think she’d want to pick at the carcass? But inexplicably, there she was like my constant migraine, the one that never really left the base of my skull.
Without a word Mags swooped in close like she missed me and now hadda kiss me.
Then, quicker than lightning showing off, she plunged her delicate-boned hand deep into my chest. She then removed it with even greater alacrity holding it high above her jet-black mane. She waved it for all the bar to see, my still beating corazón in it, color-coordinating against it’s will with her manicure, making what looked like vague Italian gestures.
Nobody in the bar paid us any mind.
I, on the other hand, couldn’t help but avert my horrified gaze into my now exposed chest cavity, only to witness darkness within darkness gazing back at me.
Heyyyyyy,” a voiceless voice greeted and saluted.
I looked up at Maggie. She took the seat opposite mine. Then reaching over with her free hand commandeered my tequila and knocked it back quick. Her encore was to grab my beer and drain it with all the mud she could muster into my eye. Then, with a satisfied look she dropped the now emptied bottle on the wooden table hard enough to make a thud.
Maggie then met my stare. My cardia beating peripatetically in her freshly manicured right-hand she made an elaborate shrug, her face smug as a tyrant’s fart.
I remembered wondering what the fuck was keeping my cardio so vascular. It sure as fuck wasn’t clean living. Then, that voiceless voice had yet more to say.
“Now what, Spenser?” it asked.
Now, it was now my turn to shrug. Surprisingly, despite being a now certifiably heartless son of a bitch, I, too, had something to say. So, I said it.
“You’re fucking diabolical, Maggie.”
My words of judgment echoed clear, permeating deep into the abyss, then back again at Maggie. She caught my words easier than a kitten catches smiles. She just shrugged again. It was starting to get annoying.
“You ruined me,” I added just to be doing something.
The shrug undulated down from her tan and toned shoulder through her arm, finally coming to a full stop at her finger’s tips.
Waving my heart at me with more vague Italian gestures Mags asked, “How can you be so sure, Spenser?”
Part II – The Middle
Sincerely, oh you know how I love you
I'll do anything for you, please say you'll be mine
...
This isn’t happening. This isn’t happening. My new mantra wasn’t working.
Six months ago, I thought Maggie was the answer to my dreams.
Swooping down like an angel to shower me with attention and affection. Dinners with wine. Hot sex. More hot sex. No strings attached. Getting to know you pillow talk.
Now, there’s one thing I need to add. I met her through a dating app but as it turned out we both worked for the same nonprofit. We didn’t know each other as it’s a fairly big company but it turned out I supported the code for both her projects. This turned out to be one of many coincidences.
We both hated our jobs. We both liked writing short stories but never could sell a thing despite writing dozens and dozens. We both could dance salsa, on 1 and 2 and loved to hablar en español que no era muy guapo.
We both wanted to run away to Mexico city and live the Bohemian life.
Coincidences like we both grew up in NYC and had issues with our respective families of origin. And while she was Chinese-American and I was Russian-American both our fathers were born in the same year and were obsessed with Woody Allen. We both had much younger siblings we didn’t speak to.
Yeah, we had both grown up with weak fathers and selfish narcissistic mothers in common. And worser still, we had both experienced unstable living situations in high school. In my case, I was kicked out of the house for smoking weed.
In Maggie’s case, I never really was sure what went down but the best I could get out of her was at 13 she got pissed at her mom for cheating on her dad and left the house with nowhere to go. She ended up with family friends or relatives but the details were always murky and I was not the nosey type.
Her words to me were, “My mother’s emotional IQ is low. I raised myself.”
Impressively, she had made it through the Ivy League and seemed to be someone down to earth I could spend time with. But truth be told from the minute I saw her profile picture I was hotter than a Texas chili sprout for her.
It was some kind of primal attraction I thought I was long past entertaining. It wasn’t lust. It wasn’t love. It was like the thought of coming home to a family I never knew I had or that even could exist.
This shit made old me feel like young me again. But, as oft is the case in life, there was a problem. I was old, broke and probably about to lose my job. I was in IT and I was having problems with my manager being a psychopath; for reals.
It wasn’t mere conjecture as he had a reputation of getting people fired, or worse, making their lives so miserable they would quit; even with no prospects. I had been the focus of his sabotaging efforts and it had been having a bad effect on my mental and physical well-being.
This had taken a turn for the worse and I was catching a lot of passive aggressive hostility on the project Maggie supported.
Anyway, she was the bright spot in my otherwise mostly solitary and emotionally bleak life. And she lived nearby. She had an ex and kids and shared custody but I never met them and she didn’t really talk much about it except to say once, “You should need a license to have kids.”
I never had quite known what to make of some of the things she said, but like I said, I was under her spell. And I liked it.
And the icing on top? I had a dominant kinky side and that was a fire Maggie poured gasoline on every chance she got. She was worse than an arsonist in Underoo Town.
One weird thing about Mags was her knitting habit. If we weren’t fucking or eating she was knitting. Even at restaurants and bars.
One day in November, with the sun golden in a sky so blue you thought you could touch it I asked, “What are you knitting?”
Maggie gave me a wry look. She got out of her chair and seemed to be examining my bald head which I had shaved just that morning.
“A hat,” she replied.
But as the holidays rolled around things started to change. One Sunday morning as we were having coffee Maggie looked around the crowded steamy café.
“Everybody’s hooking up for the holidays,” she remarked.
I didn’t really know what to do with that one so I let it be.
But as the days went on there was a change in the weather. Fewer texts. Less sex. Maggie going out of town to some vague destination. Sending me sexy pictures of herself in Santa outfits after I caught the flu during Christmas.
A few days after Christmas I got a text late one night.
“Is it okay if I come by?”
“Very okay,” was my reply.
Maggie showed up with chocolate, red wine and the hat she had been knitting. Orange Afghani wool softer than a golden retriever’s fur. She put the hat on my head and then removed all my clothes.
“Let’s celebrate Christmas, Spenser.”
And, we did.
When we were done and lying head-to-head, I said, “I love my hat.”
Maggie said, “I made it especially for you. No matter what, don’t lose it.”
It was another one of those weird Maggie things she said, like, “I used to shoplift,” and shit like that.
I nodded.
“Promise me you’ll hold on to your hat, Spenser.”
“I promise.”
Maggie observed my face, then nodded as if confirming something to herself.
“Okay.”
Then we did that thing again.
That was the pinnacle. Things quickly went downhill for no reason I could discern. Texts unanswered and when answered; kind of abrupt-like. Being unavailable. Stuff with her kids. Time away in Connecticut for some vague reason. After that I began feeling like the weakest card in a gambler’s hand.
But Maggie kept shoe horning me in at odd times, giving me just enough crumbs to keep me on the hook. And as we rode the roller coaster down everything always seemed to center around alcohol. And sex. More and more debauched sex. Finally, by New Year’s Eve things were getting straight-up weird no chaser.
“You know that thing we talked about?”
By her tone I knew what she meant. I nodded cautiously.
“You want to try it?”
Maggie dropped a smile on me that would have had the serpent in the garden applying for unemployment.
“Yes,” she said.
So, we did.
I thought I had been imagining things. I thought we were back at the pinnacle. I could feel the love drug course through my veins. Things couldn’t be better. Or, so I thought.
Oh Lord, won't you tell me why
I love that girlie so
The Following Monday
The next Monday I was called into what turned out to be the most fucking bizarre moment of my fifty-eight years on this planet; and I’ve had some bizarre fucking moments growing up in south Brooklyn in the 1970’s; believe you me.
The company’s CIO, compliance officer, head of legal, head of HR and my evil manager, Conte Rugen were all in attendance, cameras ROLLING.
It appears I was being dismissed after 8 years loyal service for sexual assault, extortion, harassment, hate speech, insults to farm animals and every fucking other offense against God and man one could commit in these holiest of holy United States of America.
And just who had I… who had I.. victimized? Who had I preyed upon? Harassed? Gone full nutso on?
Maggie.
They had the goods. Recordings. Video. Ropes. Whips. Chains. Bad Spanglish. Maggie screaming, “No, papi! No!!!!”
I believe I was, what is known in legal parlance as, summarily fucked.
Nobody wanted to hear my side. How things were taken out of context. Things we had mutually consented to out of exciting and bonding trust and exploration.
“Did I have consent agreement?” I parroted back in shock to the head of legal.
“Did you get one when you fucked your mother in the ass before she shat you out?” I added just to keep my mouth from puking.
I was in bombshell shock. Maggie was my angel. Our situationship was supposed to be fucking healing from our abused childhoods and here I am now some kind of Tarantinoesque, Mr. Fucking Rapist? And my fucking manager once bragging about throwing a cat out a window when he was a juvenile delinquent?!?
There would be charges pressed. I would need an attorney. I might be arrested.
And it all happened faster than you can say, “Blue Monday, How I hate Blue Monday”.
And then Maggie sued the company. Take no fucking prisoners, Maggie. Disco-fucking-inferno burn that mother down we don’t need no water let the motherfucker burn Maggie. I wondered if her ex had been left on food stamps after the divorce.
A few months and my life savings and retirement account after that the criminal case got pleaded down to misdemeanor assault and I was able to arbitrate with my employer and Maggie’s lawyer leaving me with some clothes, my passport and precisely enough plastic to fly into the sweltering Mexican heat. So, fly into it I did.
Part III – The Beginning
Sincerely, oh you know how I love you
I'll do anything for you, please say you'll be mine
Oh Lord, won't you tell me why
I love that girlie so
She doesn't want me
But I'll never never never never let her go
...
“I wish you’d stop waving that thing at me,” I said gesturing at my heart with my chin.
“You’re still upset,” Maggie said. It wasn’t a question.
“You fucking abused me. You fucking eviscerated me. Yeah, you could say I’m a little perturbed.”
“But you’re still wearing the hat,” she said smiling.
“It’s a bad ass hat,” I said. It was after all. Why cut off your nose to spite your face?
“I put a lot of time and thought into it,” she said. My heart continued to beat in her hand.
...
Oh Lord, won't you tell me why
I love that girlie so
She doesn't want me
But I'll never never never never let her go
...
“Look,” she said waving my heart at me.
“I really wish you wouldn’t wave that around like that.”
The voice in the abyss in my chest spoke. It said, “Wait for it.”
Maggie said, “Spenser, you poor fucking sap. You hate your fucking job. You try to do the right fucking thing and speak up and you get kicked around like a dog. You try to love hard and you get beat up and left in an alley. You try to write books and start businesses and you end up bankrupt or dead.
And now look at you! You don’t have a care in the fucking world. You don’t have a shitty job. You are in beautiful Mexico City with the girl of your dreams. You say your heart was hardened? Well, I say it feels pretty fucking soft and sweet to me. Like the hat I knitted you. With the pom pom. And you know what?”
“What?” I heard myself murmur?
The abyss in my chest said, “Yeah, what?”
“Well, one the fucking pom pom has a beacon so I knew where you were the whole fucking time you sap. So I can tell you this true. And I will. So here I am in fucking Mexico sweating my tits off. And I am telling you this," she said nodding at my cardio, "is a very good heart. And I am putting it back where it belongs.
There is nothing wrong with it and now nobody can hurt it again. And if you want to write a book now you have something, and someone,” she added with a wry smile, “to write about.”
Then lightning quick Maggie put it back in my chest and removing her hand made a quick flourish gesturing for the waitress.
“Botella de tequila, por favor!”
I looked down at my chest. Everything seemed to be the way it had been before she ripped out my heart. Only different.
I was about to speak. Maggie raised a hand.
The waitress appeared like a wraith and put down a bottle of Don Julio and two fresh shot glasses and two cold ones.
Maggie poured two shots and pushed one at me with the hand that had been holding my cardio captive. She then fished around in her pocket and found her phone.
“What the fuck, right," that's what your thinking, Spenser. Yeah, what the fuck is right. Look at this baby boy,” she said and then pushed her phone next to the shot glass.
I was looking at what appeared to be a bank balance that appeared ready, willing and able to face fuck an extraordinarily tall giraffe. I felt the migraine disappear like a bad dream.
Maggie gave me a wry smile.
She pushed the shot glass closer to me and picked hers up. I felt my elbow bending. It felt okay.
She tilted her shot at me and said, "Here's looking at you, kid," and took the shot. I drank mine.
We put our glasses down.
“You can negotiate anything," she said, then added, "sincerely.”
And then, then she kissed me.
Oh say you'll be mine
Oo-eee, oo-eee-oo, ooi-ooi-ooo
Sincerely

2023.06.04 18:37 Fabulous_Trust_4341 Here is the perfect prompt - increase the quality of your final output by 90% (it's a joke, but really better). No problem can stand in your way anymore. (ToT Method)

Here is the perfect prompt - increase the quality of your final output by 90% (it's a joke, but really better). No problem can stand in your way anymore. (ToT Method)

What is the ToT Method?

The ToT method, also known as the Tree-of-Thought method, is a revolutionary approach to AI model training. In contrast to traditional linear model training methods, ToT nurtures an expansive, branching structure of prompts, much like a tree. Imagine a seed growing into a full-fledged tree, with branches spreading in multiple directions. Each branch can be likened to a prompt, fostering a variety of responses, just as a tree nurtures diverse branches and leaves. This intricate, branching structure facilitates more comprehensive and nuanced learning, paving the way for AI models to deliver richer, more detailed, and contextually relevant responses.

Why is the ToT Method Essential in Prompt Engineering?

Prompt engineering plays a crucial role in AI model training. It helps guide the model’s learning process, enabling it to better understand and respond to user inputs. The ToT method brings a new dimension to this process. By offering a rich, interconnected structure of prompts, it allows for more nuanced understanding and versatile responses. The diversity and depth inherent in the ToT method foster a more well-rounded learning experience for the AI model, much like how a varied diet contributes to a person’s overall health. In doing so, the ToT method significantly enhances the model’s capacity to comprehend and generate human-like responses, a key objective in AI development.

Understanding Anxiety

According to the American Psychological Association (APA), Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure.
People with anxiety disorders usually have recurring intrusive thoughts or concerns. They may avoid certain situations out of worry. They may also have physical symptoms such as sweating, trembling, dizziness, or a rapid heartbeat.
Anxiety is not the same as fear, but they are often used interchangeably. Anxiety is considered a future-oriented, long-acting response broadly focused on a diffuse threat, whereas fear is an appropriate, present-oriented, and short-lived response to a clearly identifiable and specific threat.
In my own words, anxiety is something that we all could possibly experience. We may be experiencing it right now, but we don’t know that it’s actually anxiety and maybe we’re just nervous or rather, something else far more serious.
It is natural to feel anxious from time to time. People with anxiety disorders, on the other hand, usually experience strong, excessive, and persistent concern and terror about ordinary events. Anxiety disorders sometimes feature recurring bouts of acute anxiety, dread, or terror that reach a climax within minutes (panic attacks). Anxiety and panic disrupt everyday activities, are difficult to regulate, out of proportion to the real risk, and can linger for a long period. To escape unpleasant sensations, you may avoid locations or circumstances. Symptoms may appear in childhood or adolescence and persist throughout maturity.
Anxiety disorders are a collection of mental health illnesses characterized by emotions of dread, concern, and apprehension that are excessive and persistent. The following are only some of the several forms of anxiety disorders:
  1. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): You may have generalized anxiety disorder if you frequently worry for no apparent cause. GAD indicates that you are continually worried and unable to manage your worrying. GAD is diagnosed by healthcare experts when you worry on most days for at least 6 months. Worrying about your health, money, family, or work may be something you're so used to that you assume it's simply "how you are." While everyone worries about these things now and again, expecting the worse might make it difficult to live a regular life.
GAD symptoms might occur as a side effect of medication or drug usage. It may also be associated with medical diseases that elevate hormones, such as hyperthyroidism. This might cause the body to become more excitable. Family or environmental stress might set off the specified anxiety disorder. It can also be triggered by chronic sickness or disease.
  1. Panic Disorder: Recurrent and sudden panic attacks describe panic disorder. Panic attacks are unexpected bouts of acute anxiety or discomfort accompanied by physical symptoms such as a racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, shaking, and a fear of losing control or dying. People suffering from panic disorder frequently live in terror of having another panic episode.
Panic attacks usually start quickly and without notice. They may happen at any time, whether you're driving, in the mall, asleep, or in the middle of a business meeting. You may get panic episodes on occasion or on a regular basis.
  1. Social Anxiety Disorder: Social anxiety disorder is characterized by an acute fear of social interactions as well as a worry of being criticized or humiliated by others. People who suffer from social anxiety may avoid or experience considerable difficulty during social encounters. It can have a substantial influence on a person's ability to participate in daily activities or maintain relationships.
A person suffering from social anxiety disorder may have a mild, moderate, or severe case. Some persons with social anxiety only have symptoms in one sort of setting, such as eating in front of others or performing in front of others, but others have symptoms in numerous or all forms of social contact.
  1. Specific Phobias: One of the primary criteria for identifying a phobia is that it is life-limiting in nature.2 Depending on the nature of your fear, you may find it difficult to do errands, go out with friends, or even make it to work every day. To put it another way, a certain phobia can have a huge impact on your education, profession, and general quality of life.
The out-of-control sensation is one of the most distressing emotional aspects of a phobia. You may recognize that your fear is unreasonable and/or overwhelming, yet no matter how hard you try, you are unable to overcome it. You are not alone if you imagine what your life would be like if you could just go about your everyday activities without fear of encountering that certain thing or event.
  1. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD): It is a mental disease in which you have recurring unwanted thoughts and feelings (obsessions) that lead you to conduct repetitive activities (compulsions). Repeated activities can drastically disrupt social relationships and everyday work. Obsessions are persistent, unwelcome, and intrusive thoughts that lead to repetitive behavioral or mental acts (compulsions) aimed at decreasing anxiety or averting a dreaded result. Obsessions and compulsions may drastically disrupt daily living.
Everyone has obsessions and compulsions at some time in their lives. It's normal to double-check the stove or the locks, for example. People also casually use the terms "obsessing" and "obsessed" in regular discussions. However, OCD is more severe. It can consume hours of a person's time. It interferes with daily life and activities. Obsessions in OCD are unwelcome, and persons with OCD dislike engaging in obsessive activities.
  1. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): PTSD can develop because of seeing or experiencing a stressful incident. Intrusive thoughts, nightmares, flashbacks, and acute emotional discomfort are all symptoms. Individuals suffering from PTSD may also avoid reliving the event and exhibit hyperarousal symptoms such as anger, hypervigilance, and an increased startle reaction.
Symptoms may occur within one month of a stressful experience, but they may not appear until years afterwards. These symptoms produce substantial challenges in social or occupational settings, as well as in relationships. They can also impair your capacity to carry out your routine everyday responsibilities. There are four categories of PTSD symptoms: intrusive memories, avoidance, unfavorable changes in thought and attitude, and changes in physical and emotional reactions. Symptoms may change over time or from person to person.
  1. Separation Anxiety Disorder: Separation anxiety disorder is most common in youngsters and is defined by extreme worry over being separated from parents or caregivers. When away from their attachment figures, children may suffer excessive concern, fear, or sadness and may display clinging behavior.
It is natural to feel anxious when away from security items and comfort zones. Around the age of three to four, social anxiety can become a significant issue. When separation anxiety becomes excessive and starts interfering with regular activities like going to school or work, it is conceivable that these natural fears have progressed into a clinical case of separation anxiety disorder.
Although, it’s crucial to remember that these are only some of the primary anxiety disorders; people might have numerous anxiety disorders at the same time or have symptoms that don't fit neatly into one category. A skilled mental health practitioner should make a correct diagnosis and treatment strategy.

Anxiety is both a mental and physical state of negative anticipation, marked by heightened alertness and negative expectations compounded into concern and manifested physically by the activation of many body systems, all to aid in coping with an unknown or bad scenario.
It is a defensive state ruled over by fear nerve circuits and triggered by misinterpretation or overestimation of threats from the environment, the interior world of the body, or the inner world of cognition. Anxiety is a normal reaction to danger, and the discomfort it causes is intended to draw attention and motivate a defensive response. Too frequently, however, the anxiety is excessive, prolonged, or inappropriate to what triggered it, and it interferes with daily functioning—or puts in motion maladaptive behaviors, ranging from avoidance of threat-generating circumstances to drug use, to alleviate the pain of worry.
Scientifically speaking, When the amygdala recognizes incoming information as a threat—or, due to hyperreactivity, rushes to that conclusion even when there is no threat—it emits an alarm, alerting many other parts of the brain to prepare for protective action. It acts as though your life is in danger. The signal is relayed neural and hormonally by the hypothalamus, triggering the stress reaction. The heart rate rises. The heart rate increases. Breathing becomes more rapid. Areas of the brain stem activate, putting you on high alert and attentiveness. The hippocampus, or memory center, uses prior experience to try to contextualize the nature of the threat. The prefrontal cortex, which receives all of the information needed to make a coherent interpretation of events and orchestrate an appropriate behavioral response, has the ability to reduce or enhance the perception of threat and degree of discomfort. The amygdala effectively overpowers the prefrontal cortex in the anxious brain, whether due to overexcitability of the stress response system, activity of different neurochemicals, abnormalities in nerve circuitry, or inactivation of certain cell populations in the prefrontal cortex. (Psychology Today 2023).

Every individual has their own different types of ways on how to deal of this disorder whenever it strikes. I would like to share to all my fellow readers some ways of how I cope up with my anxiety and other people’s ideas that I found based on the internet.
  1. Question your thought pattern
  2. Practice deep breathing
  3. Keep a journal
  4. Aromatherapy
  5. Exercising/Working out
  6. Grounding Techniques
  7. Identify your triggers
  8. Therapy
  9. Meditate
  10. Socialize
  11. Staying active
  12. Eating correctly/Healthy Diet

An open conversation about anxiety experiences is critical for establishing understanding, empathy, and support among individuals. Anxiety is a widespread mental health illness that affects millions of people worldwide, and talking about our experiences may help break down the stigma associated with it and bring comfort to those who are experiencing similar difficulties. Remember that open conversation about anxiety should always promote sensitivity, respect, and secrecy. It is critical to establish an environment in which people feel secure and supported as they share their tales and problems.
To summarize, anxiety is a difficult and complex feeling that affects millions of individuals globally. It might feel overpowering and suffocating, but keep in mind that you are not alone. There are excellent coping methods and tools available to assist you in overcoming anxiety and regaining control of your life.
First and foremost, self-care is critical in anxiety management. Taking care of your physical health by exercising frequently, eating healthily, and sleeping sufficiently may have a big influence on your mental health. Additionally, adopting relaxation techniques into your daily routine, such as deep breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga, can help reduce tension and anxiety.
It is also critical to establish a support network. Reach out to friends, relatives, or a therapist who can listen and provide advice. Sharing your thoughts and feelings with others might provide relief and help you gain perspective.
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) is a highly effective anxiety treatment. It focuses on detecting and changing negative thought patterns with more positive and realistic ones. Seeking expert assistance from a CBT therapist can equip you with the tools and techniques you need to combat anxious thoughts and create coping mechanisms.
Remember to be patient and nice to yourself while you recuperate. It takes time to overcome worry, and setbacks are a normal part of the process. Celebrate your modest triumphs and recognize your progress, no matter how minor. Self-compassion is important, as is reminding yourself that you are trying your best.
Finally, never be afraid to seek assistance when you need it. Consult a mental health expert if your anxiety becomes unbearable or interferes with your everyday life. They can give individualized advice and strategies to help you manage your anxiety successfully.
You may live a full life free of anxiety by actively working on your anxiety and applying healthy coping techniques. Remember that you have the ability to overcome worry and build a more promising future for yourself. Believe in your own power, seek help, and enjoy the healing process.
Remember that you are not alone in this world, whether you’re healing or healed, you will always be supported. I stand with you!
